Equivalent to FCP range selection tool

Is there an equivalent to this in Premiere CC?  The tool is rarely used, but when you need it, it sure is helpful.  If you're unfamiliar, here's the idea:
I have two contiguous clips in the timeline.  I want to select the tail of the first one and the head of the second one to copy and paste somewhere else.  With this tool, I can click and drag to select any segment of any number of clips, regardless of their in/out points.

From the CC help menu, under "June 2013 new features", as well as from the CC PP manual:
Copy command enhanced to operate on a range in a sequence
The existing Copy command (Edit > Copy, Ctrl+C (Windows), Command+C (Mac OS)) is enhanced when used in the Timeline panel. If there are no clips or keyframes selected, and an In Point or Out Point is set, then the range of time between the In point and Out point is copied to the clipboard.

  • Where can I find the colour range selection tool in Photoshop Elements 11?

Note: It is not under the Selection tab in the menu. This tool is very useful and Adobe help is making it very hard to find.

The Select>Color Range is only in the full versions of photoshop such as photoshop cs6.
As far as i know that's never been available in photoshop elements (from the factory sorta speak) except in version 3 using an action created in photoshop.
There are many other ways to make selections in photoshop elements.
As a side note and not really pertaining to your version of elements, years ago back in the pre os x days, there was a plugin for photoshop/photoshop le/pse 1 on macs quite similar in function to select>color range.

  • Range selection tool

Hi, really i dont know how we stay with that tool really as fcp is really fast work with it.
Why dont we have yet ?
    anyone dont miss it ???
Its the key for FCPX, its one of the tools really fast the edit at least for me.

This tool allows us to work only with the mouse to make the in / outs of a very fast way, especially when making cuts approximate. And go classifying subclips.
It is the turn of the thread, when we need to use the scrub hover within the bins. Right now the hover scrub really useful to be used with the mouse, with I / O but the selections are invisible .... until you do click on that clip to take it.
I would like the bar then appears to be larger and more manipulable.
On the other hand, in the timeline if you want to select only part of the tail of a clip and the beginning of another, you can do with in / out, but with this tool is much faster.
So I called attention, something that is the basis of the editing in FCPX is not known or even considered.
Of course I use the two tools, each for a different type of project.

  • 'Range selection' stuck on

Hi there, the 'range selection' tool seems to be stuck on which means I cant choose 'select', 'position' or add in and out points. The dropdown menu for the tool shows the 'range selection' option highlighted with a dull orange. I have tried to change it with the menu bar and shortcut keys but nothing works. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Dave

Don't know whether this will help but corrupt preferences can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.

  • Removing a selection area from a color range selection...

I have an icon I am working with and I have used the color range selection tool to select the background however there are some pixels that were selected that are actually on the inside of the icon itself. I want to remove that selected area. I had do I remove the selected are inside the icon? What about adding pixels to the selection area? How would that be done?

    Good day!
The shift- and alt-key usually allow Selection tools to be used to add or subract from an existing Selection.
Could you post the image itself?
Because I suspect in a case like this it would be bette to work with a Selection based on channel/s. Maybe as the basis for a Solid Color Layer.

  • Color range selection preview

I'm at a new job with a new iMac (Mavericks 10.9.4) and CC. I like using the "color range" selection tool in Photoshop, but I cannot figure out how to make the selected area just show as a marquee area - I don't want it to show as White Matte/Black Matte, etc. - JUST as a marqueed area, with my 4c image still visible. Ideas?

I just have to ask - why?
Once you commit by pressing OK you get your marquee. But the purpose of the selection preview is to show you precisely what will be selected, and a marquee doesn't do that. It would defeat the whole purpose of a preview. This would be easier to answer if we knew what you're trying to do.

  • Does Illustrator have an equivalent to Photoshop's rectangular marquee selection tool?

I am trying to select just a piece of an image in an Illustrator file to copy and re-scale, but I can't find the equivalent to Photoshop's rectangular marquee selection tool. Is there such a tool? Otherwise, I guess I can make the edits in photoshop and place in illustrator. Thanks!

    Vector programmes ≇ Raster programmes
There are workarounds, but if you want to do yourself a favour, just do it in Photoshop or another Raster application.

  • How do I set the default tool. It's on range selection and I want it to be the select tool.

  • FCP Selection Tool goes white

I can't think of a better name, but the "pointer" or selection tool is normally black, but when selecting motion files on the timeline my pointer turns white and fills to black. But the filling to black is taking longer lately. Is this the same thing as an hour glass? and would more ram make this happen less?

    Yes. On both counts.

  • Esc from Type Tool to Direct Selecton instead of Selection Tool

After editing type with the Type Tool, is there any way to set Illustrator to switch to the Direct Selection Tool instead of the Selection Tool when you hit the Escape key?

contols+esc still only takes me to the selection tool.
The Command key, not the Control key. (That's the key right next to the spacebar, with the apple logo on it.)
Larry wrote 'Cmd (Control)' because it's the Ctrl key on a Win system (and you did not specify your platform in your original post).
Actually, Ctrl+Esc might not work on some Windows systems because it is an OS-level shortcut (roughly equivalent to hitting the Windows key -- takes you to the Start menu) and will likely override the Illustrator function. I say 'might' because a number of factors could affect Ctrl+Esc behavior within an application.

  • Can't nudge my edited Multi-Cam sequence forward with the Track Select Tool

Hello, Good People of this forum,
I can't move it forward using the Track Select Tool. I checks to make sure the mother tracks weren't locked and I can move that timeline fine.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I am having a similar issue. My system and FCP are latest updates.
I have a set of clips shot with one tripod camera for the full length, and what looks like one or two other "roving" cameras getting closeups and other angles, but start and top points (not runnign the entire interview). Effectively these are B roll with matching audio.
If I run Sync Clips, it makes a huge mess piling them all one atop another. The audio souds like a party, not a conversation with two people.
When I make a Multicam clip, FCP does a "pretty good job" but some short clips are WAY out of sync...
Then it becomes a puzzle to find where they go.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for monitoring the video of the track on which I have just clicked the clip it's on? the one Multiclip when I am done?
Also, ••• How do I close the Timeline back down to

  • When I detach my audio do I have to include that in range selection when exporting clip?

So I usually export the clip I want to share by Range selecting it and then exporting the range selected part. I detached the audio and cannot seem to grab the audio file underneath the regular clip to export with the rest. How can I get that detached audio in the range selected part or will it just go along too even if it is not in the yellow range selected part?

FCP exports everything in the range, vertically as well as horizontally.

  • Select Tool (Arrow Poiner) Grabbing all tracks

    Hi
I hope this is a simple fix. I had a problem with Autosave Vault not working, so I found a Ken Stone article on resetting preferences (as in Trash/Restore). Fixed the Autosave Vault problem, but now my select tool arrow grabs all tracks (video and audio) instead of just the single track I'm trying to edit. Figure it must be a setting that was reset to a default value, but i can't find it. Help needed and welcomed.
    Phil

When you trash your preferences your FCP system reverts to default behaviour ... one of those defaults is having "Linked Selection" turned on. You can toggle it back off by pressing SHIFT-L ( or by choosing Edit menu *> Linked Selection* )

  • New selection tools problem

    another hobbled tool ...
if i select a bunch of clips in the timeline, for instance with the Select All Tracks Forward Tool (tttt), and then wish to deselect a range of clips, with the Group Selection Tool (gg) and the command key ... the group selection tool no longer deselects a range, it just negates the selection already made. i have to deselect one clip at a time ...
i swear this is a new bug. anyone else experience this?
    R.

Sorry no, it works fine for me.
Try deselecting with just the selection tool "a"
    Trash prefs time?

  • Track Select Tool CS6 vs CC

The CC version of the Track Select Tool seems to default to ALL TRACKS instead of a single track.
So I am used to hitting the key for Track Select Tool, and holding shift to grab all tracks.the way it's always functioned in Premiere CS6 (as well as FCP).
But now with CC, holding shift does the opposite.
I will re-train myself but I'm wondering if there's any way to change the settings of this particular tool, to default select a single track, the way it's always worked.
    Thanks

    Yes they changed that behaviour.
There must be a lot of request for that for Adobe to implement this feature.
I think its a matter of getting used to.
