Erase a Shadow....Mask a Shadow?

Hey
This is a movie shoot in 35mm that im now Trying to fiz in After Effects..
If u take a look at this jpeg file
juts in the upper right, near the curtains and the pictures, u can see a shadow from the micro suspended by the sond assistante.. The camera pans to the right and the actress moves in that direction. The shadow apears at this moment to dissapear before she gets in front of it witch mean its only 20 frames to deal with...
Because i am new to having ideas on what to do i though i coul export a frame withotu the sadow, track the motion, only the position, and place a mask at that spot... that went very wrong of course... then i thoug of exportinf the 20 frames with shadow to photosop and dill with it there so i could inport again to after... but, i mean.. if it where also a moving, but instead of 20 frames, 20 seconds how could i do it..
i also know the vector paint effect.. but first i dont know if that feature helps and second how it works..
i hopo somebody knows about any video tutorial i could watch or any solution i could try..
thank you,
Rui

After Effects has a motion-capable Clone tool.
You can use motion tracking to drive both the target and the source points for cloning. Explaining how to do this is well beyond what I can achieve in a forum post, I am afraid.
But here is a tutorial by Angie Taylor which shows an example of this.
For 20 frames, you can do this manually, no tracking.
Take a look at Paint tools: Clone, Stamp and Eraser in After Effects Help.

  • How do i erase a shadow ?

I am a new user and would like to know how to erase a shadow - I am taking photos of small steel pieces to put on my website.
Using the erase tool is sooo slow
    Photoshop cs5 extended

Select the object with Quick select, fine tune with refine Edge, copy to a new layer, fill the background layer with white.  You can add a subtle shadow with layer styles if you wish.
I did this as a demonstration in a lighting workshop I ran a couple of years ago.  It makes for a very clean image ideal for adverts.
BTW  It was taken with on-camera-flash, by directing the strobe at a large white sheet of foam board placed above and behind the bracelet, and with a flag under the strobe to prevent light hitting the bracelet direct from the strobe.

  • Graphical error with drop shadow on new i7 MacBook Pro 13"

I have noticed a problem on my new MacBook Pro with the drop shadow on my finder and application windows. Difficult to describe but a picture will let you see what is happening.
As you move a window around it kind of "erases" the shadow behind it.
This behaviour is not specific to xPad or Terminal (both of which were running when I took this screenshot). I've seen it on Firefox and when a Finder window is in the foreground. Usually selecting a screen in the background fixes this but it is unusual and I have some concerns especially as this machine is only about a month old.
Any idea? Or has anyone seen this before?

I have the exact same problem, but only when I hook my macbook pro up to an external monitor.
My post is displayed here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3276589
Could you do me a favour and show me how the website beanandberry.co.uk appears for you? Does the background show up?
I think it's probably a graphics card driver problem. However I did update my RAM recetnyl and I'm going to reset the cache to see if it does anything.
If successful I'll post something again.

  • Mask erases pixels instead of conceal/reveal

OK I've got three different exposures of the exact same scene all layered together in CS4. In the past, i'd use the magic wand to broadly select parts of the photo and then Shift-F5 fill with black/white on layer masks to conceal/reveal various pixels from the underlying layers to blend exposures. Then, i'd just fine tune with a black/white brush. Today when i've done this, it seems to erase the black mask pixels from the image instead of just concealing them with the mask. Can't think of anything i've done to cause this. (I'm for sure using brush, not the eraser). Any help?

In LR2.5 i select three images, and choose to edit with "Open as layers in photoshop." Once open, i apply a black layer mask to top two layered images to conceal everything in those layers. I want to reveal the sky on top layer by revealing with white on the layer mask. So i use magic wand (yes, it is the magic wand, not eraser) to select the sky. Then, using shift-F5 i fill with white with Normal mode, 100% opacity. However, the parts that are left black are now erased pixels. Since i applied white to the mask only, i can't see why it's erasing actual pixels. Kind of defeats point of using mask, and now i can't fine tune edges etc. with brush tool because pixels are missing. Two screenshots below:

  • How to remove background colours in photoshop?

Hello everyone....I'm only just learning how to use the content-aware tool in photoshop cs5. This image had a picture of a girl in it, but I think I've been able to erase her using the content-aware tool, though you can still see a slight shadow. There is also a small area of red between the subject's chin and the top of his left arm. Can you please teach me how to erase the shadow as well as the small red area? I tried using the content-aware tool for that, but for some reason it didn't work. Thanks so much

Hello there..Thanks for your help. I've tried doing it both ways and I've actually managed to do it - shock! - but I think it was a
fluke because I can't do it again. The obstacle is how to change the background colour. I don't know quite how to do that. Could you please give me a step by step guide on what to do once i've selected the area with the lasoo tool? i know that i have to click on one of those two boxes at the bottom of the tools palette - set background or foreground colour - but i'm lost once the colour palette appears on the screen. thanks again!

  • A little lost - newbie

    Hi
I just started the CS4 trial of Illustrator - I'm used to Photoshop, but a little lost here.
I imported a bitmap line drawing, and converted it to a vector by doing a live trace (Illustrator did it BEAUTIFULLY with a one click preset)
Now I'd like to edit it to make the background transparent, but none of the selection tools seem to be working on this.  So here are a couple of questions:
    1.  Where's the pdf manual?  PLEASE don't tell me that there is only an online manual.
    2. Do I have to do something to the graphic after creating the trace before I can work on it - convert it to something?
    3. Once I figure out how to isolate the background, is it just a matter of erasing inside a mask or something to knock it out and make it transparent?
Thanks for your patience with my rookie questions.
    Cheers
    Shaun

If you go back t the live trace menu you will see the option to expand and to convert to a live paint group you will also see Gap options ad well and you can select large or smll gaps or  numeric measurement for the live paint group so when you fill an area it won't spill into the next open area.
The live paint group allows you to fill the areas you want transparent with a fill of none using the Live Paint Bucket, it you expand instead then you use the selection and direct select tool to alter, select and delete the areas you wan to change or delete.
If the image has white background you can select the ignore white option in the Live Trace Options which will make the background automatically transparent.

  • Keep getting halos in hdrs

    Hi,
I've been trying out the new HDR function in Lightroom and have encountered a few problems.
The image below is a 2 photo hdr. I've darkened the sky using the graduated filter tool and masked the rocks using the eraser with auto mask set to 'on'.
As you can see there is a quite ugly white line a few pixels wide all along the top of the rocks. What could be causing this?
The photos were taken on a tripod so any shift would be minimal.
The line also appeared before the graduated filter tool was used. This is also a crop of the original image to keep the file size down.
any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers, Stuart

  • Problem on Photoshop Elements 9

Hey, does anyone know how to re-correct the Layer-Masking function if it "ghosts" an image instead of "erasing it"?

Masking works on a scale between black/gray/white.
A white mask reveals everything, whilst a black mask reveals nothing and a gray mask reveals partially.
The easiest way to remember is B for Black = block (everything) so the others are opposite.
In most instances you automatically see a white mask, e.g when adding an adjustment layer; so set the foreground color to black and choose a brush for erasing.

Mac OS X does not offer a Clean install option.    If by clean install you mean erasing the system, that is not recommended unless:
    1. You bought a used/refurbished Mac and there is software on it without any accompanying discs, and it is older than July 20, 2011 in model release:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6413
Or if it is at or newer, then erase it if it has applications installed that would not have been prebundled with it and you have no CDs for those applications.
You don't want someone else's software keys, or accounts, or to be running unlicensed software.  At and newer Macs offer a built-in internet restore for their software with a command-R boot that lets you erase the system with Disk Utility, and then install from the internet the latest operating system.
    2. You have a hardware issue and want to eliminate possible software issues as the cause when troubleshooting a problem all at once.
Issues affecting a new install have to be isolated before you attempt it.   Unless you know it is software or hardware, erasing may only mask other problems.

  • Shadow left after using masks.

Lately when I've used a mask (in Photoshop CS6), it leaves a slight imprint of the orginal image that I'm trying to "erase." My opacity is at 100%, I am not using blending modes or effects at all. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.

The light red vertical and horizontal lines are not supposed to be there. I tried to "erase" them with the brush tool (at 100% opacity and no blending modes selected) and it leaves this shadow. This has been happening for the past few weeks but prior to that I've never had this issue. Thaks Brett.

  • Preview highlight and shadow clipping mask in second monitor

Hi, I'm new in the forum and just starting with the new LR3. I have a question about to preview highlight and shadow clipping in the second monitor, becouse I can't check the mask clipping in my second monitor as in the LR2... Is there a possibility to change it to preview the mask in the second monitor?
    Thanks and regards
    Daniel

Yeah, thanks.... but I mean that when you are in develop mode and you try to see the highlight or black clipping mask, red or blue, now in LR3 only appears in the main monitor, not in the second monitor as well like in LR2... Maybe I'm not explaining very well the difference...

  • Revolution Theme Background Shadows or Image Mask

    Hello Again.
Despites wise advise of ¨just call me dude¨I obtain what I need, He oppens a new interrogative.
How to modify background´s image mask. It drops some kind of shadow at the upper right side of the image and become´s dark in that place.
That is great, but I am tryiong to find how to eliminate it or make it less dark.
I know this is a hard question, but I´ll give a chance to destiny to point me in the right path.
I checked the adress http://digitalproducer.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=67633 and opened the file ThemeDescription7.plist and search into it with plistedit pro, but I have no idea where to find a clue on that, as I am not a English reader, I have no idea about the name of that effect who affects the image I drag into the sceene and to the background. I looked for shadow, but no changes, blur, but no blur at all.
    Thank´s for your help
    AH

    Hello, Arturoherva,
I followed what you are asking. I downloaded Plistedit pro, and found the steps to modify the Reflections blurring in iDVD 6 themes. The same process does not work for iDVD 7 (08), because the Revolution theme is not organized in the source file in the same way. I could not locate a similar folder with the Resource option.
I think this may be able to be done, but not with the same steps as given in the example on the link you provided.
There probably is a command to lighten the background of the Revolution theme, but the steps listed for PlistEdit are for themes prior to iDVD 8.
Maybe you should contact PlistEdit and get instructions for use with iDVD 7(08), and post them back here

  • Masking unwanted sides to drop shadow effect (AI CS2 Mac)

I've got a problem with drop shadows in CS2 (Mac). Can anyone help? I've applied an offset of zero and a blur of 1mm which works fine but the object is at the corner of the artboard and the shadow spills over onto the pasteboard and leaves a fine line showing when imported into InDesign (at the edge of the graphics frame).
Can you tell me how I can loose the shadow on the two sides I don't want it? I've tried creating a clipping mask behind to paste it into but I loose the solid area of the object (with the shadow) that I'm pasting in to the mask.
    Many thanks,
    Bob

I don't see a problem. A clipping mask should work, but perhaps I might not be following the description in your second paragraph correctly.
Could you clarify, preferably by providing a screenshot that illustrates what you get and what you want to achieve?

  • Drop shadows with mask problem

I've got a vector image that I've applied a drop shadow to,
I've then used a mask on it to square it off but unfortunately the
drop shadow follows the mask after applying.
Is there any way the mask can cut off the the drop shadow
    effect as well?

It's pretty hard to guess what it looks like from your
    description. Can
you upload a copy of your document to a website where we can
    see it?

  • Help Recreating Drop Shadow Effect from Clipping Mask

A few months ago I created the image attached. Today for the life of me I cannot create a similar effect, where the drop shadow of the text comes from the clipping mask. Everytime I try to follow the same steps and layer styles I keep getting a normal black drop shadow not a drop shadow that comes from the clipping mask like in my example. Help please I am driving myself crazy!!!

    Thanks JJMack and PCTGraphic !
PCTGraphic converting the text layer to a smart object is what I seemed to be missing (and what I believe I did in the attached picture as well). Thanks for the reminder!
JJMack I really appreciate your answer as well (there's always more than way of doing things), but I know I didn't use a vector mask originally.  Unfortunately, I do not know how to add text to a vector mask.  I would like to learn how to do it your way, I will work on that (the screen shot will help, thank you)!
