Erase and Sync but Transfer Purchases
How do i erase and syn an ipod touch on our new home computer with a new itunes account while keeping the purchased items from our lap top with a separate itunes account?
I've tried and it says I can't because some of the purchased aren't authorized but i have authorized both itunes accounts.
Thanks!
What was the source to get that content onto the iPad?
There has to be a middleman to get from CD to iPad - use
backup of that to get content to new computer.

Is there ANY way possible I don't have to erase my music and can download some new stuff? Please help. Thanks- so frustrated.
Yes. I have no personal experience with this, but it is possible to recover your music from an iPod. See this link: http://guides.macrumors.com/Recovering_Songs_from_an_iPod

If you still have your old computer you should transfer the library from it, otherwise see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

If I "Erase and Sync" will my songs that I erased be saved in my ITunes Library?
I synced my Ipod to another computer, and it told me I could either "Erase and Sync" or "Transfer Purchases". If I do the first option, would I still have the songs I previously had on Ipod in my Itunes library?
Thanks it's a confusing question! =PWhen you sync an iPod touch to a new computer, all content on the iPod will be erased and replaced with content from iTunes on the new computer. You need to transfer any content from the iPod you wish to keep before you allow it to sync to the new computer or that content will be lost. See:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Once the content has been transferred, you can then allow the iPod to be synched to the new computer and it will sync back that transferred content. Note that this will happen any time you connect the iPod to a new computer; iPod touches can be synched only to one computer at a time.

There is no "transfer purchases" button when I try to do this! My only option is to erase and sync... How do I transfer the music from my iphone without erasing it??
- You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
- If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy. -
My iTunes gave me the option to erase and sync with the library or just sync with Itunes purchases. Since I have songs from more than one source and all my music was in the library, I chose the erase and sync option. All my music was wiped off my iPod and a few recent iTunes purchases were synced onto the iPod. All my music is still in the library, but it won't sync to my iPod. Making me crazy.

In a nutshell, the family computer, a Compaq Desktop Windows 7, has been in our family since November 2010-ish. We moved last summer, and nothing happened to it. A couple of weeks ago, the desktop had a whole "recovery-restart-etc" dilemna and no it's like new - no memory of the past files. I had iTunes (7 or 9), for only me, the only iTouch 4th generation user in the house. Basically no other Apple products. Now that I want to fix the computer (restore old photos and applications, etc) as well as move my music to the desktop itself, iTunes tells me I must update my iOS 4....? (never updated the iOS thing) So I try to do so, and iTunes tells me I have to transfer my music files to the library. Fine. I try, and since the iTouch has a previous history with the previous iTunes library BEFORE the major shutdown, it tells me to erase and sync my data! I don't want to lose all my music and repay for it, and I may be smart, but I'm not at the Genius Bar, am I? So can somebody help me? Please? Thank you in advance.
- Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- For other music yu will need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
- If you have photos synced to the iPod you will need a pair program like TouchCopy or PhoneView. They also do music
- The connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup. The will also update the iOS on the iPod. -
I just bought a new computer. Itunes only offers me the option of erase and sync, as I can only have it sync'd with one computer. I want to move my music to this computer from my ipod. Is this possible, or do I have to go back to my cds and upload everything from there? I just want to be able to move my music from my ipod to the new computer.
You need to transfer your iTunes Library from the old computer to the new one - then you can carry on syncing as normal. You can't move non-purchased music from an iPod to iTunes using iTunes. For purchased music, choose iTunes > File > Transfer purchases...

I have had the iphone4 for 2 years now and I bought a new MacBook Pro, opened iTunes and it knew I already had other machines with iTunes sync'ed with it but it still insisted on offering one option or sync'ing with new MacBook - "Erase and Sync", which means deleting EVERYTHING on the iphone. What if I want my iPhone to dictate and get iTunes on the Macbook to match up with the iPhone??? Or at least get iTunes to relate to what my iTunes account obviously has on it and update that way. Come on Apple, as per usual, very pretty but not very practical!!!
You can only sync everything with your one syncing computer/iTunes library. Yu can:
- Make this your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
- Use the manual method to copy music and videos from any computer/iTunes library to the iPod. See the manual method included here:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
