Erase iChat chatroom history

Trying to delete chat room history. Cannot find the .plist for ichat in library. Saw an earlier post which mentioned Leopord, wondering if it is the same for Snow Leopard? thought about deleting the whole application, but iChat is not available to download as a free standing app it seems.. help!!

Go to your hard drive/users/(your account)/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.ichat.plist.
Restart iChat.

  • I can't erase my personal history for files which I saw.

Hi, I cannot erase my personal history for files which I saw.
Does anyone know how to erase it?
    Thank you in advance.

When you reinstalled Yosemite did you create a new initial admin account? If so, then after you migrated your old account did you log into it?
If you need to you can reset permissions for your user account:
Reset User Permissions and ACLs in Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
From the Utilities menu select Terminal. At the Terminal prompt enter: resetpassword. Press RETURN. When the window opens select your startup drive where it says "Select the volume containing the user account:" At the bottom of the window you will see, "Reset Home folder permissions and ACLs." Click on the Reset button.

    Hi,
SO it has a Web Page link.
If you mouse over this link what does the tooltip or the info about where the page leads say (Wherever that appears in your Browser).
If it is in the form that will open or start a Chat in a client app it will look like this:-
    <a href="aim:goim?screenname=ralphjohnsr&amp;message=Hi+!,+I+came+from+your+websit e,+ralphjohnsuk.">
That is the a href="aim:goim will laumch an app that can do AIM chats.
The ?screenname in this case will call a specific buddy  (And you can work out that the rest adds a Message when they use it)
The Tooltip or the part where you browser states what the links says, if it is a web link, and the chat is a web page type will list a standard http://URLaddress.
So, were you in the chat and tried to do something like send a file or add a Hyperlink ?
Or is it saying that you just access the Chatroom ? (It is happening before you are re-entering the room ?)
Do you know if the chatroom is Moderated at all ?
(Can you access it from another Screen Name)

  • HT1771 why did apple erase ichat? its so much better than messages and now I cant video chat with my ichat buddies

why did apple erase ichat? its so much better than messages and now I cant video chat with my ichat buddies!!!

    HI,
    Apple did not erase iChat.
Messages in Mountain Lion is iChat +
The plus bit is the fact you can iMessage iOS devices.
All the other features that were in iChat are still there.
If you upgraded Lion to get to Mountain Lion then in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars you probably list all the iChat Accounts (Screen Names and IDs).
You may need to enable them for Messages.
They should also show up in Messages Menu > Preference > Accounts
Once those accounts (AIM and Jabber) are Enabled they can be viewed in a Combined Buddy List
Windows Menu > Buddies (Or using CMD + 1 Keystrokes)
In the General Section of the Preferences you can Unlink these Buddy lists.
The Green icons or highlight a Buddy and then using the Buddies Menu or the icons at the Bottom of the Buddy list can be used the same way to start Video or Audio Only chats.
The iMessage "Account" is only for texting iOS devices or other people using their Apple ID on a Mac in Messages.
It is an account "in addition to" rather than "taking over from" the services that iChat can join.

  • Hi um i have the ipod 5 and my computer seems to be fine with the wifi but when i pressed wifi and my wifi does not pop up it i put it on airplane mode reset the  networks erased my safari history . and it still has not read my wireless internet ?

hi um i have the ipod 5 and my computer seems to be fine with the wifi but when i pressed wifi and my wifi does not pop up it i put it on airplane mode reset the  networks erased my safari history . and it still has not read my wireless internet ?

    If not:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • When I type in web searches, Firefox remembers them with a system similar to predictive text. How can I erase the search history list, because deleting the history with the organise tool doesn't work. Please help.

When I type in searches I don't want a box to appear under the search box trying to predict what I'm going to type next. Can I disable the system(prediction box) or erase the history list or both?

Thanks for the suggestion, but no effect, when I right click on the search bar all I get is; select all (which does nothing), add keyword to this search (which is the opposite of what I want) and add dictionary (again adding something). Do you have any other ideas? :)

  • Erase Google Search History

I can't seem to figure out how to erase the google search history bar (where you fill in your search) without resetting all of Safari. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Hi,
Safari preferences -> AutoFill -> (Other forms) -> Remove the ".google.com" entry.

  • Erase email address history

How do I erase the history that email keeps for the "to" field ( or at least turn it off). This has entries where I made a typo and didn't find out until the email comes back rejected. Obviously I don't want to keep this entry.

They only way to eliminate this info is to restore the phone as "new', not from a backup. Of course, you'll lose all saved data in any apps & have to re-enter settings & passwords. Your choice, live with it until a software update fixes the issue or restore as new.

  • After automatically updating when I turned on the computer, Firefox erased all my History from the end of September until the update yesterday; how can I get back all the searches in my Show All History?

When I opened Firefox and it automatically updated yesterday, all my search history from then back to the end of September was wiped clean from the "Show All History." I very much need that search history, which is essential for my research. I didn't bookmark it because I knew it would always be there. But it's not. Please help.

Firefox tarballs from Mozilla Org use prefs within Firefox for updates. The "toggle" for not automatically updating - '''app.update.enabled''' and where to look for updates - '''app.update.url'''. The first needs to be '''''false''''' and the second could be a '''''null''''' string, do an update can't be found.
''I use both prefs to keep Firefox from updating by itself. I install each new version of Firefox as it is released, and keep the older versions around for reference purposes. Those prefs are the same since Firefox 1.5 came out.''
The versions of Firefox that are part of an operating system installation usually are that OS's own build of Firefox, and don't use the same update setup as Mozilla uses, in most cases. I am not familiar with Cent OS, but Ubuntu and Debian look for Firefox updates and from their own program repository servers outside of Firefox - as with the tarballs from Mozilla.

  • When updating Flash it updated Firefox erasing my bookmarks, history, etc

My Firefox has been stumbling lately with Flash.  I had an older version, not sure which.  Pages that would not run in FF would in Chrome.  I was cued to update flash.  After installing new Flash (from official Adobe website), it closed my current FF browser.  When I reopened it, all my bookmarks, history, toollbars were gone.  Why did this happen and how do I get them back?  Please tell me I can get them back!  Thanks.

Flash Player (or the installer) has nothing in it to alter ANY personal settings in Firefox.
The installer places a plug-in in a pair of folders where Firefox is able to locate it (C/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash and C/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash).
That's all. You do need to close the browser before the plug-in can be installed, but that's because the folder can't be modified while it's in use. That doesn't have anything to do with bookmarks, history or toolbars as they're in a separate folder altogether (Users/[user]/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/[8-digit#]default).

  • Finder-All My Files- Previous '_' days.. how Do I erase the usage history? without deleting the actual file?

How do you delete the Finder history in All My Files?
I have 35,000 plus in the Previous 30 days category
I'd like to clear all these out without 'trashing' them
I HAVE gone to Go, Recent Folders and Clear AND the Apple icon
Recent items and Clear, and I still have every thumbnail of every photo
ever opened in my All My Files history..... (thousands)

I also had the same issue, but I just discovered that you can set the finder to show, for example, 'Desktop' content by default. There are a few options on the dropdown list you will find there, but I figure you may want to go with the folder that shows fewer or no items at all (since you hate to see that endless list of files). Wanna try? Follow the following path:
Finder > Preferences > General > "New Finder windows show:"
Then choose the folder of your preference; close Finder to refresh; reopen Finder and the long list will be gone. For good! Notice though that, in doing this, you won't be deleting any files from Finder but rather putting them out of sight when you run Finder. So, in case you really need to pull up a file based on history, they will be just a click away on the top of the Finder's FAVORITES menu. It's working for me, and I hope it will work for you, too.

  • Firefox erased my whole history

Loaded firefox up today and my whole history was gone.
Had approx 7 months worth of browsing and its all gone.

    Hey,
Just click on Firefox on the top left hand corner.
In the menu, you will find Options.
Clicking on it will open a window with various options.
You need to find the heading Privacy among them.
On this page, you will find Tracking, History and Location Bar.
Since your problem is related with History, there you will find
    the option Remember History.
Select this option and you will not have to worry anymore.
If you wish to recover your lost history, you can try any of these :
    Restoration (free)
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/231629/restoration.html
Recover deleted files--or delete them for good--with this small program.
Restoration is a free program that can scan your hard drive, floppy diskette or USB thumb drive and find files that have been deleted (Windows doesn't actually destroy files that you delete: it just marks the space they occupy as being available). It can then recover any recently deleted files it finds with a single mouse click.
    Have a nice day...

  • How do you erase your posting history along with your account?

I'm tired of wondering who might be researching me online,
considering I've asked dumb questions in many forums here.. it sure
does not do wonders for my image if I'm trying to get a job.
    Thank you for any advice.

    >But by "stupid", I meant "inexperienced sounding", which can reflect on one's image in a negative way, if one is not careful. It's hard enough already in the job market with all this technology, and some of it getting tossed around as though it meant everything about being a designer.. it doesn't mean everything.
I agree that it doesn't mean everything, and I still don't see how this would be a factor. If a potential employer is going to take the time to read through your posts on the forum, which I actually doubt, he/she would also have to take into account the date of the posts and other factors. Everyone starts out inexperienced. It's experience that makes you experienced, and so the fact that you are working and asking questions shows that you are actively gaining experience.
If I were hiring someone, the very fact that you know where to turn to get help and that you are able to use that help to gain experience is a huge plus, not a negative. Most of my coworkers have been using ID as long as I, but have no clue how to use it to its full power because they don't take the time to ask questions and learn about the new features that would make their jobs easier. I am valued in my job, not only because I have the experience to do my job but because I regularly look for new and better ways to do what I'm doing (and that includes asking "inexperienced" questions on this forum).
