"Erase Junk Mail" 10.7 Mail Grayed Out

For the last few months, maybe even since I upgraded to 10.7 from 10.6 several months ago, I have noticed that the "Erase Junk Mail" under "Mailbox" is grayed out even though there are emails in the junk mail folder.
Also when I go to search I no longer can select, or even find, the "From" option.
It's most likely me just not seeing it.
I have rebuilt all the folders.

Found the problem myself in another thread.
"The problem was that I was playing with the Junk Mail preferences to improve the junk mail filter and accidentally selected "Perform custom actions"."

I ask this because I have suddenly stopped receiving most e-mails in Mail. I've found that my incoming mail server (p01-imap.mail.me.com) is different from what the Apple mail setup assistant recommends (mail.me.com), but I cannot change it because it is grayed out. Any ideas?

I'm afraid that AFAIK you've gone through the card. You could try Support, though I don't know how helpful they are likely to be.
To contact iCloud Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:

TS1627 I had my hard drive replaced within the last month. Now I have trouble with the MAIL function. Sometimes it is open in the menu on top, but does not bring up mail. Then it grays out the QUIT MAIL function and I am stuck.

I have problems closing my MAIL. The function of Quit is grayed out. I cannot turn off the computer because it says mail still open. I have had this problem off and on ever since getting a new hard drive and reloading all the functions. The only way I can clear it is to hold the power button down till it shuts off the computer, and then restart it.

Cant get help with this issue on Apple Support, so I have to go to the Apple store to the Genius Bar to get assistance. All the help issues are so technical in their jargon, that I cannot understand how to fix the issue.

My iCloud incoming mail server is grayed out. Also my iCloud and Gmail accounts are showing offline. I just did update to Mountain Lion 2 days ago and now I cannot send mail.

A simple solution...
After much troubleshooting, I have isolated the issue with the greyed out "Messages" app menu. The problem is due to the truetype font Apple Gothic missing which is required for the AppleID login window when you first launch Messages. You can just hit skip when the dialog box comes up, but until you do so the full messages menus are not available. So to fix, just drop AppleGothic.ttf in <bootdrive>/Library/Fonts and Messages 8.x should launch correctly. Apple should have really included this font in <bootdrive>/System/Library/Fonts since it is required for one of their Apps
Many people in the prepress or graphics arts fields will likely run into this issue when they customize fonts.

Erase free space in Disk Utilities grayed out for SSD

Is it normal that this function (erase free space) does not work for a SSD? It is grayed out on my iMac for SSD not for the 1 TB HDD.
Now that I installed Lion and Trim is working (on original Apple SSD) in my iMac I would like to erase free space. I read somewhere that you should do this if you did not have the Trim option before and you do have it now. Or is this BS?

Erase Junk Mail function disabled!

Hello folks, for some reason my "Erase Junk Mail" menu options are greyed out and disabled.
I cannot empty my Junk Mail folders.
I've quit and restarted Mail. No help. Didn't seem to have this problem in 10.5.7.
Ideas?

Do you have "perform custom actions" checked in the Junk preferences? If you do, the Erase Junk Mail option will be grayed out.

I am trying to set up e-mail on a second user account but mail preferences is grayed out. I have looked at some posts which indicate it could be corrupt file and say to deletee .plist but I cannot find that at all. Any suggestions?

I am trying to set up a Mail account for a second user. I have made the user account but when I try to set up Mail, it fails as if the password or e-mail is incorrect but I know it is correct. When I try to go to Mail preferences, it is grayed out. Any suggestions?

1. If you haven't tried this already, just delete the user account entirely, and then try setting it up again.
2. To find the permissions file:
     a. hold down the option key
     b. go to the Go menu in the finder
     c. scroll down to Library and open it
     d. in Library, go to Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences
     e. drag it to the trash and restart.
3. if that doesn't work, go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. In the Keychain Access menu, do Keychain First Aid, and repair.
This should keep you busy for a while.

After upgrade to 10.6.2 the" entire message" search option grayed out

Just upgraded to t10.6.2 but now in the mail when searching for a mail the entire mail search option is not available anymore it is there but it is grayed out it can not be activated. That was the beauty if mail.
on the other hand the To do button now works again

You have not said, but I would guess you are using an IMAP account? If so, then might it be that the selection in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced has gotten changed to not keep copies of messages (and/or attachments) for Offline Viewing? The Entire Mail search will be grayed out when copies of the messages are not stored locally.

Firefox 4 small window pops up everything else is grayed out

I noticed that in Firefox 4, when I click to empty trash in web mail, the background gets grayed out like so:

I would like to disable that because everything time it happens - it makes me think that something's wrong...
How do I disable this behavior and have the window pop up but not gray out the background, which is how it used to work in Firefox 3.

Os lion sidebar is grayed out????

Just started using my new 27" iMac w/ OS 7 Lion and noticed a few quirks that are really bugging me.
1. The side bar is completely grayed out. Icons are no longer in color. It is extremely annoying. I don't want to have to READ the name of each file when clicking rapidly - I want to recognize the icon. What are icons for??? This is ridiculous.
2. The size of the fonts on the menu bar, etc on the 27" screen are too small. If I change the resolution the words become larger so I'm not straining to read, but they are out of focus. Why can't you change the font size on your menu bar, etc without compromising quality? My choices are to squint, or strain.
3. Mail - Again - with the grayed out icons. Give me a break.
Bottom line is that creative professionals use Macs. Don't change icons to gray. If I wanted gray, dull, boring and hard to navigate I would buy a PC.
In the meantime, does ANYONE have a clue how to change this?

You can't; not without hacking, at any rate. The icons in the Sidebar and in Mail are now grey, with no option to change. Fonts in menus, etc are and always have been fixed pixel hights and widths and will appear smaller when you move to a screen with a higher resolution. You can change some font faces and sizes with third-party utilities such as TinkerTool, but such changes can cause unexpected negative consequences with some functions and applications.

Setting up an iClould e-mail alias in Mail

I went to the iCloud website and created an e-mail alias. I'd like to put that alias into my Apple Mail application on my MacBook Air. I'm not able to add the alias to my Accounts in Mail because the Incoming Mail server field is grayed out. What am I doing wrong? If I try to login to the iCloud website using my alias and my Apple ID password, it won't take it.

I think I may be on to something. When I go into System Preferences>Mail, Contact and Calendars, I see my alias on the list but it's at the bottom, is grayed out and says "Inactive" under it. If I click on it, it's wanting me to enter my current Apple ID password. When I do that, it says my password is incorrect. What's interesting is that it thinks my new alias e-mail address is an Apple ID. So it seems that this alias has created a new Apple ID that's different from the one that all my other e-mail addresses are under. So do I create a second Apple ID that is tied to this alias or is there a way to get the alias added into my current Apple ID.
I noticed that when I go to the iCloud website and try to login using my alias e-mail and my current Apple ID, it won't accept the password, which makes sense considering the fact that in the iCloud e-mail list the alias is under it's own Apple ID.
Maybe another option is to create a brand new Apple ID with a brand new alias and use that as my additional e-mail address. Is it possible to have multiple Apple IDs? It would only be used for this e-mail and nothing else (such as iTunes, etc)

Why is 'Notify Me' in Friends app grayed out?

I don't think that that (multi-valued) is the problem.
For example, if I look at the "description" and "mail" attributes under "People".
The "description" attribute IS grayed out, and has "multi" checked under Configuration->Attributes.
The "mail" attribute is NOT grayed out, and ALSO has "multi" checked under Configuration->Attributes.
It's got to be something else.
What's weird is that if I use a 3rd party LDAP browser, I can modify the "description" attribute, but I can't in DS Admin Console, because it's grayed out...
