Erase & sync dialog

when connecting my iTouch in iTunes, this message appears:
"The iPod is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this library?"
I did that, but it displays it every time I reconnect. I have only ever connected this iPod to this one computer, so I don't understand why it's displaying that. It also won't download 5 songs that I purchased tonight.

It sounds like something is corrupted in your Win 7 computer. Have you tried Authoring This Computer in the Store tab of iTunes? Have your reset your iPod? I would try log out and logging back in in both the iPod and the computer.

  • Erase & Sync in Itunes

If you do an Erase & Sync with your iPhone in ITunes does it leave your messages and the operating system in tact.

I didn't mention it but that is an Erase & Sync with your iTunes Library.

  • Will using iTunes "Erase & Sync" erase disk files too, or just songs?

Basically had to reinstall windows, backed my songs up back onto my computer, and put them back in iTunes library. Was going to "Erase & Sync" since they have the same songs in them anyway, but I just want the songs replaced so that my iPod and new iTunes are synced again.
I have important files backed up onto my iPod disk space, and I dont want them to be erased as well.

  • IPad Erase & Sync

    Hi,
My hard drive broke so have had to re-install everything with no backup on my Windows PC
When I try to sync my iPad it says the usual you need to "Erase & Sync" as it is synced with another iTunes library.
My question is: What will I loose if I erase and sync???
    All my apps? Bookmarks?
    Or just my iTunes Tunes?
    Mike

When you want to download the apps you already purchased, just act like you are going to buy it again and it will give you a pop-up message that says _"You have already purchased this app. Would you like to download it again for free?"_
You can test it ahead of time by deleting an app from the ipad and redownloading it from the apps store on the ipad. Start with a cheap one and you'll see what I mean.
Note: You must use the apps store account that originally purchased the app, for it to be a free download.
The only down side is you lose your high scores, etc.
Let us know how it turns out...

  • Erase & sync??

I got a new pc a few days ago.  It won't let me move any songs from itunes to my iphone.  I ticked manually manage. It is telling me to erase & sync. I only had my iphone authorized on the old pc which we no longer have.  The kids ipod touches are fine.  Please help. xx

Authorization is determined on a per-OS basis; a combination of hardware components is used by iTunes to determine whether the computer it is running on is authorized to play music. If you have multiple OSes installed on one computer or change its hardware configuration, that computer may use up multiple authorizations; likewise, installing a fresh OS may cause iTunes to think the computer isn't authorized.

  • Erase & Sync fails to copy my iTunes store purchases.

I built a new system on my new MacBook Pro, and copied my iTunes music to it. When I connected my iPod, I used Erase & Sync. Fortunately, my music collection comes from my CDs. I own one tune from the iTunes store, and iTunes refuses to sync it, saying I can't play it on my new computer. How can I get my new computer to sync this song?

  • Erase & Sync songs to iPod

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums. How can I erase & sync songs from my laptop to my iPod Video(5th gen)? The first time I connected my iPod to my laptop iTunes asked me if I wanted to erase & sync but I clicked cancel because I needed to edit iTunes songs. Now that I am done with that, whenever I connect to iTunes it doesn't ask me anymore and I really need it to. My laptop doesn't have internet so I hope the solution doesn't require going online. Please help me if you can. I'm sorry if this question has been answered, if so please direct me to the thread.

Did you ask the same question twice...?

Yes. I have no personal experience with this, but it is possible to recover your music from an iPod. See this link: http://guides.macrumors.com/Recovering_Songs_from_an_iPod

  • 2 Iphone's one One computer, how to erase sync'd contacts

I let a friedn use my computer to sync her Iphone and now all of her numbers and info is on my Iphone (after my last sync) how can i take just her stuff off without manually going through my phone and eraseing them one by one????

    Hello Clinem03,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
Unfortunately, by letting your friend use your computer to sync her iPhone, you may have "some" cleaning up to do to clear her info from your computer. The reason you've ended up with both her data and your data on your iPhone is because the data is intermingled on your computer.
Chances are, if you check your contact management program (Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, Outlook Express or Windows Address Book, you will find that her contacts have been merged with yours on your computer.
If you're using Outlook 2003 or 2007 for your calendar data, you might also find that her calendar info is merged with yours as well.
Depending on how she synced her iPhone (if she logged into her iTunes ID and chose "Transfer Purchases from the File Menu before syncing), you might even find her APPs/Music/Videos mixed in with yours in iTunes. If she did transfer purchases, you might have a lot of work on your hands. Fortunately, it's less likely that she transferred the purchases before she synced, so you may be in luck here.
So, as I mentioned, you may have some spring cleaning to take care of before your next sync.
You will have to manually remove any of her data from your contacts/calendar programs and iTunes Library on your computer before your next sync (more on this later).
When you say you're getting her email address when you try to update APPs, that is because iTunes on your computer was still logged in with her iTunes ID when you did your last sync.
There are a few things you'll need to do to get your iPhone back to the state it was in before she synced.
Do not connect your iPhone at this time if it has been set to sync automatically.
Open the iTunes Store on the computer and see what iTunes ID is logged in at the upper right.
If it's her iTunes ID, you might want to have her Deauthorize Computer from the Store Menu (it will count as one of the 5 computers authorized on her iTunes ID otherwise).
If she's not available to deauthorize it, you can just Sign Out her ID and Sign In with your own iTunes ID (she'll just have to live with one less computer that she can authorize).
Next, check to see what backups are stored in iTunes.
Go to the Edit Menu and choose Preferences.
    Select the Devices tab.
In the list of backups, you will probably find the most recent one for your iPhone (and probably one for her iPhone - select her backup and delete it first).
Also, while you are in the Devices Preference, put a check in the "Disable automatic syncing for iPods and iPhones" checkbox to prevent an automatic sync the next time you connect your iPhone.
You can then connect your iPhone and try restoring it from the most recent backup by right-clicking on your iPhone under Devices and choosing "Restore from backup" per this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
It is possible that the most recent backup will have the already mingled data in it. If so, check to see the next most recent backup file in the Devices Preference as mentioned above. If it is relatively recent (and before she synced), it is possible that it can restore your iPhone back to how it was before she synced hers. If it meets those two criteria, you can delete the newest one (when you synced after her sync) and try restoring from that second backup (However, depending on how old it is, you might not get back all the info you want, so restore from it at your own discretion).
Let's say you get your info back from one of those backups successfully. Before doing your next sync you will need to do the "spring cleaning" chores mentioned above. Go ahead and disconnect your iPhone for now before doing any syncing.
First, for the APPs in iTunes, open the Applications listing under Library.
Right-click on each APP and choose "Get Info."
Delete any APPs that have her ID showing in the Info.
At this point, while you are logged in with your ID, I'd download a new Free APP to your iTunes Library (when you do sync your APPs to the iPhone later, make sure you have the new APP selected to sync -- this will sync a fresh copy of your iTunes ID along with it to your iPhone later).
Second, check the Music, Video, Podcast listings under Library to see if any of her media is there (it's probably not, but it's worth checking just in case). Delete any of her content.
Next, you'll have to manually clean up your contact (and calendar if applicable) data in Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Address Book.
Once you've removed her data from your computer's programs, you'll need to replace the contact and calendar data on the iPhone with the cleaned up data from Outlook on your next sync.
To replace the data on the iPhone with the un-mingled data from the computer you'll need to scroll down to the bottom of the Info Tab for your iPhone in iTunes and put check marks in the Contacts (and Calendars if necessary) under the Advanced section. The Advanced checkboxes are one time only selections -- they will uncheck themselves after the sync. The Advanced selections will remove the data from the iPhone and replace it with a fresh copy from the computer. This is NOT reversible so make sure there are no new contacts or calendar events on the iPhone that are not on your computer before doing the Advanced sync.
Once you've got everything on the computer cleaned up and your iPhone is back in order, you might consider creating a new User on the computer from Control Panels > User Accounts and log into that new User when allowing anyone to sync with your computer. If you're using Outlook 2003 or 2007, see this article for the new User account before syncing another iPhone:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1347
One last little detail. If your contacts and calendars are all intermingled with her data... so is the information on her iPhone as well. This is what happens when you allow someone else to sync in your own User account on your PC.
Good luck with the spring cleaning,
    Charles H.

  • What's "Erase & Sync"? Restored my system.

My computer most recently caught a virus and I had to restore my system. Now that I have re installed I-Tunes and have all of my music on my computer including songs that were purchased. When I try to Sync my I-pod it want allow me to, it gives off a message "Sync and Erase". What is that? What is it tryin to erase? The songs from my I-pod or the songs in my music library in I-tunes? I have purchased new songs and have new podcasts, but I'm afraid to sync. How do I get around this? PLEASE HELP ME!

hi, if it erases everything on the ipod, then where is the music library?

  • Erase, Sync, Fail.

It seems that I am unable to trI try to update the library on my sister's iPod (nano 3G) by erasing and syncing her device with the most current library located on my laptop (Windows 7), and I now have an empty device that won't sync. Help!

There is a solution to this problem, it worked for me at least.
The problem is when you go to www.office.com/productkeycard to download, it only gives you the option of the 'Click to Run' version.
This version installs the programs to a virtual server and therefore isn't an 'Outlook.exe' or 'Word.exe' for that matter.
After you go to the MS Office download site (www.office.com/productkeycard) and type in your ProductKey and login you will see the page to download/install the 'Click to Run' version.
Right below is a small link that says "Advanced Download Options", click on that.
It will give you the options of 32-bit, 64-bit, and Click to Run.
Choose either 32 or 64 bit ( I had the 64bit version) and I installed the file from that download. That will now put the .exe's in a proper file that iTunes can find.
    This worked for me !
    Hope that helps others.

  • 'Erase & Sync' message

    Hi,
I recently had my itunes music library wiped for no apparent reason!
This didn't annoy me as much as you'd think because I have always had issues with the fact that my music is stored on an external hard drive and therefore reguarly get the 'file can't be found, would you like to locate it' message! This, therefore, forced me to restore all files from the HDD and so, I thought, the IPod would recognise that as the primary source.
After 3 days of work it was complete and finally, for a few days, the IPod/ITunes worked as they should!!!
Last night, my ITunes library appeared as empty!! and a message came up as saying, 'there is more than one ITunes music library detected, ITunes can only sync with one. Would you like to (a) Erase and Sync or (b) Transfer Puchases .
Now looking at the description of the 2 options, it appears that in either case, I will end up with an empty music library.
Surely this can't be right? There must be a way around this?
To try to clarify further, I think the problem arose when I have connected/synced the ipod without turning on the HDD. Maybe this is what caused the creation of another ITunes music library in C\My Documents\My Music. I have tried to move this folder to the ITunes folder on the HDD and tried to delete the folder....neither worked.
I would appreciate some help on this, I have had nothing but problems with this products software ie. ITunes, since the day I bought it and am extremely disappointed with the whole situation.

I have re-authorised my computer, but not synced yet.
All Mozy did was to copy everything under C:\Users\Mark Moss\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music, to a backup folder of the same name on mozy.com. So when I restored my hard drive's data, the iTunes was put back.
Under C:\Users\Mark Moss\Music\iTunes\Mobile Applications on my (repaired) laptop, I now don't have any mobile apps listed (I guess I'd forgotten to back those up but in any case they're on my iPhone) so I'm concerned that if I replace my iPhone, I'll lose the apps, which I want to avoid.

  • Can I stop the wi-fi sync dialog boxes?

Like so many others, I'm experiencing spotty Wi-Fi syncing on iTunes for Windows / iOS 5 / iPhone 4 -- all sorts of intermittent problems, like a lot of people here. It's pretty clear that the software wasn't really ready to release.
To the point, though: is there any way to convince iTunes to just shut up about it? I get at least 50 dialog boxes for every sync -- cannot connect this, iPhone cannot be identified that, reconnect your iPhone (that's a little challenging, because it's on WiFi, duh!).
I get that the amateurish software won't work they way it should, but is there any way to just silence it?

    Hi SGoodman
You cannot rename your Wi-Fi connections.  The displayed name will show the SSID of the Wi-Fi hotspot.  If you would like to customize the name, refer to your Wi-Fi router's manual on renaming the SSID.
    Thanks

  • HT1535 Is there a workaround when I can't 'manage' music manually w/erase & sync prompt?

I'm trying to put music from iTunes on my wife's iPhone 4S. I've checked 'manually manage' but when I click 'apply,' I get the erase-and-sync prompt. She doesn't want to lose whatever is on her phone. Is there a workaround for getting the music on there? Thanks.

As I said, all software has been updated - I just hadn't updated my OS listing in my discussions profile.
My Touch works just fine, I'm just limited to managing music in my general library in iTunes then syncing it - can't manage music within the iPod in iTunes - I can see it, but can't manage it.
