Erase Vista old partition HDDRecovery after migration to W7

I bought my PC with Vista including a special partition DATA (E) containing HDDRecovery
Since I installed Windows 7 and I created a new recovery disk.
Is it possible to erase old partition E now ?
Thank you for your answer.

> Pb, I wish to affect this new free space to an another virtual disk G which is full.
> The expansion command is not possible for G (but it is for C)
For this purpose, you should use Paragon Partition Manager, Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite. Download and install, then, you have to choose ,,Merge Partition,, and follow instruction.
*Note*, It's strongly recommended to back up the necessary Files/folders on virtual disk G before merging them.

First of all, I have to ask, why to you "need" to install a fresh copy of OSX?
This may mean that your hard drive is failing, so hopefully you have a backup.
I'm assuming you were in your recovery partition when you did this.
I would, from the recovery partition, repair your hard drive and permissions.
When to Run First Aid in Mountain Lion's Disk Utility - For Dummies
And then try to create the partition again.
If that doesn't work, you have a few options:
Try a third party utility like DiskWarrior or TechTool which may be able to repair your hard drive:
DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac Disk Repair, Mac Directory Repair, Mac Disk Recovery, Mac Data Recovery or Techtool Pro 7
Try internet recovery, perhaps erase the entire hard drive and reinstall ML.
If nothing else works, then I'd replace the HD and start over.

  • Issues with old calendar items after migration from SBS2008R1 to Windows 2012R2+Exchange 2013

    Hello,
After migrating a customer from Windows Small Business Server 2008 R1 to Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (DC) and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 & Exchange 2013 there are a few issue regarding
the GAL and old migrated calender items that we are unable to resolve:
Old calender items which were Exported to PST when the Server 2008 R1 environment was still live were imported to the new mailbox of the user, located on the Exchange 2013 mail database. This
seemed to be working just fine.
The problems arise when a user tries to edit or re-send an old calender item. There actually are 2 problems:
    1. When resending an old calender item, OLD GAL entries are used (even when re-entering the contact details) and the emails are send to nobody and you get the mail back from postmaster
    2. When updating an old calender item you get an error that you do not have permissions, probably because you are NOT the 'old' Exchange user.
    Thanks in advance!

Did you use Exmerge or similar to export?
You may have an issue like that explained here.

  • What to do with old iPhoto library after migration to Photos

After migration to Photos my hard drive is maxed out. I want to move the 15gigs old iPhoto library to an external drive to free some space as some have suggested. Others here have said you can just trash the old library. There must be a reason 10.10.3  was designed to retain the iPhoto library. Trash it--really? Another suggestion was to put my 15 gigs on a flash drive. So the question is: does Photos need to be able to see the iPhoto library as it would if on an external drive connected to my Time Machine?

Thanks for your reply but I'm still confused as to how I lost over 10Gigs of HD space after the migration. I understand the conversion is supposed to create more space, not less.  When I look in the pictures folder in Finder, I see 2 LIbrarys, iPhoto and Photos, each of them approx 15 Gbs. according to the Get Info menu.  I guess what I don't understand is if the iPhotos Library is not needed and is moved to an external drive why that wouldn't free that amount of space.
Also, if "optimization" is supposed to move "some" high res images to the cloud to make room on the HD, how is it that I find myself with only 1gb left on my HD? What is the criteria that triggers "optimization" and how much room can we expect it to shoot for? There seems to be a variety of answers on this subject, many of them sound like guesses. Apple's explanation is vague about how it works, so hopefully someone has the accurate, in depth scoop on this.

  • Terminal shows old computer name (after migration)

After using migration assistant (over Ethernet) from a 2007 mini to a mid-2011 mini:    the Terminal shows the old computer name in the prompt.
(Many other oddities -- every file action brings up "Finder wants to make changes" and requires a password, to move or copy or delete any file).    I see this problem has been reported before over the  years but I did not find any answer that didn't have further questions

Aha, changing it in "Sharing" seems to have worked for me (suggestion from 'Kappy' in the 2008 "Re: Migration: (UNIX) thread, although it did not work for others in that thread at the time):

  • Remnants of old Exchange server after migration

Migrated to 2010 and all is well however, the old Exchange server is still referenced in some places. The actual server itself has been decommissioned and re-purposed but has the same fqdn just is not running Exchange 2007 anymore.
How to I manually remove all aspects of the old server without interrupting services on the new 2010 server

    Hi Wrangler,
Remove the Exchange 2007 server from Active Directory
    a.       Launch ADSI Editor
    b.      Expand to Configuration Container->CN=Configuration, DC=
    Domain_Name ,DC=com->CN=Services ->CN=Microsoft Exchange->CN=
    Your_Organization_Name->CN=Administrative Groups ->CN= Your_Administrative_Group_Name->CN=Servers
    c.       Right-click old Exchange 2007 server object, and select “Delete”
    d.      Click “Yes” in every jumped windows that prompts you to confirm the deletion

  • Tx1312AU Windows Vista Recovery partition lost

tx1312AU Windows Vista Recovery partition lost after HD crash, how to get it back or should I try Win XP? (I hate Vista already...)

    sijyb00 wrote:
See, the the thing is, I DID make the recovery cd... but it isn't working. From my understanding, the cd uses the information from the recovery partition to restore Windows? Correct me if I'm wrong.  Every time I boot up the cd it detects no OS and when I click continue, it begins the installation and immediately says Installation cancelled, missing files, something like C:\win.int is missing.
So the recovery cd is not working. I called Toshiba and from what I could understand from the horrible english, was that they would charge me for another recovery cd... which I don't need, because I have one. Or send in my laptop for "repair." They said it was my hard drive. Which is complete bull**bleep**, when windows failed I ran a linux os on it perfectly fine, so it is not my hard drive.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? I have a product key for vista which I PAID for when I bought the laptop... I don't think it's fair to have to buy it over again for $100-200
No, the recovery disks don't rely on anything on the hard drive.  From what you say, either you are not booting from the optical drive, or the disks indeed are faulty.
The last I knew, replacement disks were $25.  See the sticky at the top of the General Discussion topic for details.
There have been a lot of reports of problems with recovery disks, so I'm a bit surprised that Toshiba won't ship you replacements at no charge.  Might be worth another try, and an attempt to get to the next tech level.

  • Files From Old Computer Cannot Be Opened On New Computer After Migration

After migrating User Data (i.e.: documents, downloads, music, movies, etc.) from my old iMac to my new MacBook Pro, the data cannot be opened because on my new MacBook Pro I "do not have permission to view the contents." Is there a way I can be authorized to view my data on my MacBook Pro? Should I give up on Migration Assistant and simply transfer my information using a USB drive or other device?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Your best bet may be to start over: erase your internal HD, reinstall OSX from the disc that came with your new Mac, and use +Setup Assistant+ when it restarts, to transfer your stuff.
See [Setting up a new Mac from an old one or its backups|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Snow Leopard > Installation and Setup+ forum) for detailed instructions.

  • I have an old G3 I would like to donate, but I have forgotten my password and cannot erase the two partitions on my disk.

I have an old G3 I would like to donate, but I have forgotten my admin password and cannot erase the two partitions on my disk. I have the CD for 10.3.9 that one partition is running but when I boot from the CD, it wants to set up by connecting to the internet and I cannot connect on the old machine.
I've tried several schemes by logging in with command s and carefully typing directions, but when I reboot it just gives me the old admin.
It keeps trying to connect to network which I do not want to do.
I guess no one really wants an old G3 but I used it for years and I hate to destroy it.

    Sure you can.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
No password is required for this unless you set up a firmware password.

I use Windows Vista and Microsoft Outlook. After migrating to iCloud, the calendar of iCloud tranferred only part of my past Calendar items to the folder iCloud Calendar in my Outlook. How can I transfer all the entries? In iCloud's site all are there.

If the calendar is on iCoud.com, all you would need to do to get it on your phone is go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, sign into your iCoud account and turn Calendars on.  The iCloud calendars will then download to your phone.

  • Installing ML: locked partition missing after I erased it!

I was into a clean install idea on macpro
I made bootable 10.8 usb, then restart to cmd+r mode. I decided to erase my 1st partition before install ML. so I opened disk utility and tried to erase 1st partition. this partition was password protected, so It asked for password 1 time and then erased it, since then the partition is missing!!! I can not see it in disk utility. I restarted from bootable USB but still disk0s2 is missing and "Repair Disk Permissions" is also unavailable. also it is not available for my 2nd partition as well (After I unlock it )
    before I had 2 partitions
1st is about 998 GB  Called Srvr01.HD01    ( currently missing!)
2nd is about 1 GB     Called Private           ( Thanks God it is still there!)
before installation, in disk utility left side, if was like this:
    Disk
    -- Srvr01.HD01
    -- Private
now in disk utility it is like this:
    Private
    -- Private
    Srvr01.HD01
But in Partition layout I can c both "Srvr01.HD01" and "Private" and all th options are gray and unavailable

It seems I Found te solution myself!:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/23/view-mount-hidden-partitions-in-mac-os-x/#comment -412195
Quit out of Disk Utility, and launch Terminal to type the following defaults write command:
    defaults write com.apple.DiskUtility DUDebugMenuEnabled 1
Relaunch Disk Utility and look for “Debug” to appear alongside ‘Help’
Click on the new Debug menu and pull down and select “Show every partition” so that a checkmark appears next to it
Now the hidden partitions will displayed alongside mounted visible partitions, but they will appear grey rather than black
Right-click on the greyed out partition to mount and choose “Mount [Drive Name]“

  • Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Hi, hopefully you guys can help me out, I just
purchased a G5 iMac to replace my aging dell desktop,
and now i'm more or less completely os x dependant
(I've had an ibook for a few months now). Anyway, I
    have a few questions:
    1. Does anyone know of a (free) mail notifier tool,
that will alert me when I recieve new pop3 mail? I
used to use AIM for this in windows
The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.
    2. Anyone know of a good (free, again) IRC client?
    iChat works well.
    3. I noticed earlier that my screen was flickering,
it seems to have subsided for now, but is that normal
to encounter in a new display? It wasn't really bad
flicker, but I could see it.
    No idea.
    4. I leave my desktops on 24/7x365, will that be a
problem with this iMac? Display shuts off of course
    after 30 mins
You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
    5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
    as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.
    Thank you for any help,
    -Evan

  • Time machine dropping old backups after migrating

I recently changed from an iMac to a retina Macbook Pro. I read that I could continue my time machine after migrating my mac. My new macbook keeps trying to create a brand new backup. I enter time machine and go back to find all my old dates but it drops after a minute or so. Is my mac trying to create new backups instead of continuing? I have a second backup portable hard drive with thunderbolt. It only took an hour to do what my network storge was taking 22 hours! how can I keep my old backups without my mac trying to restart again?
