Erased hard drive now when installing osx is asking for apple id to reinstall osx but I purchased from someone else

I was trying to install Mavericks on the computer without backing up like an idiot. It said the hard drive was damaged and could not be repaired. Long story short I cleared the hard drive and now I don't have an operating system. I can reinstall lion from recovery mode, but I didn't buy it with my apple ID. Also I'm in Bavaria so there are no apple stores nearby. How can I get lion on my apple account. Also the last OS I had was 10.8.5 (Mt Lion)

It's a 2008 aluminum by the way

  • My iMac is getting really slow.  It used to boot in about 30 seconds, now it's over 3 minutes.  I am thinking I may backup photo's Videos and such and format the hard drives and re-install OSX.  Any thoughts on this?

This computer used to boot up in about 30 seconds, now it's minutes, programs are starting to freeze, or take a long time to boot.  I suspect it's bits and fragments from programs that I have used and deleted over the years, but are still floating around inside my iMac.  I really don't want to re-format and re-install OSX  but the lack of performance is finally starting to irritate me.  (Haveing switched from windows in 2009, I can tell you, I used to reformat and re-install windows about every 3 months because I liked that fresh fast boot up feel.)  Any advice is welcome.  Here's a printout from a program that lists everything using my system.
    Thanks.

In addition to Mike's suggestions,  you only have 4GB of RAM and Mavericks does use more RAM than other versions. You may also want to look at the apps that startup on login and the possiblity of upgrading RAM.

  • After erasing hard drive and re-installing Lion, is there anyway i can tell if all my files are gone?

    Hey guys.
Basically i have sold my iMac after buying a new Macbook Pro. I erased hard drive in disc utility then reinstalled Lion from disc.
When i turn on the iMac now it does the usual welcome video, then proceeds to try and set up the machine. Which i dont want to do as i have sold it and he will want to do that himself.
Dont personally know the guy ive sold it too so basically i want to know how i can check to see if my files have actually been deleted?
Just so all my personal information isnt accessed by someone else.
    Thanks a lot

If you erased the disk, the data is gone. If you want to be sure, you can open Disk Utiility again and erase the disk using a special method (select the hard disk > Erase > Security Options) before installing Mac OS X

  • Erased Hard Drive, Now Can't Install OS

    Hi all,
I'm selling my Powerbook G4 15", and was asked to erase the hard drive and reinstall the system.
I put the PB into firewire disk mode, opened Disk Utility in my new computer, and erased the disk.
I then put my OS 10.3 Install disk into the PB, but was unable to start up. Instead of getting to the install menu, I get the white screen and gray apple; the apple logo then "shifts" a few pixels to the right and down, and the computer hangs there without doing anything.
I put the PB back into firewire disk mode, popped the install disk into my other computer, and tried to install that way. The install menu then told me that I couldn't install onto the targeted PB drive, since "An earlier version of OS X is not installed."
One more caveat: I am missing the original system restore disk for the PB. I have the second disk, but haven't been able to find the first. I figured since I had all the os 10.3 disks it wouldn't matter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
I'm not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure that the computer either came with 10.3 installed. It's only about two years old.
Other things I've tried, with little success, are using the startup volume choice mode to try and select the os 10.3 disk to start off of (it doesn't show any volumes to choose) and resetting the PRAM (still get the flashing question mark folder on start up without the system cd in and the dislocated apple logo with the cd in).

  • Installed new hard drive, can't install OSX - help!

I just installed a new 500GB hard drive in my 2008 late model unibody MacBook (not pro). I inserted the original OSX install disk (snow leopard, I think), but the disk isn't recognized. The screens white, with a blinking gray folder icon with a question mark on it. And now I can't get it to eject the disk either. Help! What do I do?

As Snow Leopard wasn't released until August 28, 2009, you must use the white Snow Leopard retail disc with the image of a Snow Leopard as shown on this tip, and it does not say Upgrade, Dropin, or OEM, or a Mac model on if you are going to use it on the MacBook.    Note: That installer disc only contains iTunes and no other components of iLife.    For iLife, you must find the original 10.5 installer disc that came with the machine, or a retail physical copy of iLife, or update the machine to 10.6.6 and buy iLife from the App Store.  iLife from the App Store does not contain iDVD.
The installer once booted will give you Utilities you can use from the installer menus, including Disk Utility to format and partition (see bottom of tip to determine which Disk Utility instructions pertain to you) the hard drive HFS+ GUID (this erases the drive).  If you need Boot Camp, request help from this forum.
Upgrading to 10.7 or later, be aware Rosetta no longer exists, and what that means.

  • Erased Hard Drive now what?

Ok so I sold my Macbook intel running latest version of Leopard. I put in the original Leopard DVD and rebooted using the "C" key. I selected my hard drive and erased it with a one pass option. Now with the Install DVD still in I reboot and get the Mac OS X language selection screen. I select "Use English for the Main Language." and hit the arrow. I then get the following error message " Mac OS X cannot be installed on the computer" For Mac OS X System requirements .....
    help what do i do?

When you want to post a topic, first go to the particular Discussion. In this case that would be Using Mac OS X Leopard, here is the link: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1225
On the left side you will see: *Post New Topic* Click there then fill out the Subject line, then compose your post, then click Post Message. That's all there is to it.
Also a good idea to read the Apple Discussions Terms of Use before posting here.
    http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa
As to your external drive issue... *"Tiger was able to see the drive but Leopard just does not see it and I have no idea how to have this drive mounted correctly under the new OS."* Try repairing disk permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • Replaced hard drive can't install OSX

A friend gave me an iBook G3 500 MgHz. I want it to coordinate with my iMac G5 to be able to use same Tiger software. I put in 640 MB of Ram, then installed OSX 10.4. Everything OK but the modem was broke and there was not much room on HD. So I bought new 80Gig Toshiba HD and new modem, did the surgery using excellent iFixit instructions and went to reinstall OSX from my cds. The computer works if I start it with OSX installer cd, and the disk utility and System Profiler show the hard drive properly,
BUT WHEN I START THE INSTALLER THE HARD DRIVE DOESN'T SHOW UP AS THE DESTINATION DRIVE,NOTHING SHOWS UP AS A POSSIBLE DESTINATION DRIVE.
DID I MISS A MAJOR STEP TO PREPARE THE COMPUTER FOR A NEW HD? IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO WITH DISK UTILITY TO MAKE IT SHOW UP?
    HELP

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
In a Mac, it's called Open Firmware, and you get there by holding down the Command (Apple) Key + Option + o + f.
If it's a G4 (and it sounds like it is because the G3's have tray-loading optical drives), you may want to try posting in the iBook G4 Forum.
You have posted in the iBook G3 (Dual USB) Forum.
Also, an iBook G4 will not have version OS X 10.1.x (that version of the operating system is too old for an iBook G4), so you may want to check that information.

  • My new blank hard drive won't install OSX from the disk?

For some reason my Mac book pro won't install OS through the install cd or through the flash drives. It will load the disk but then freeze when I click install. It won't load through the USB either. I have done multiple diagnostics at the mac store and they tell me that my hd is bad. Twice the hd was fresh out of the box and installed that day. I spoke to a supervisor via phone when I called apple care and he told me that unless I have all apple parts in the computer they can't accurately diagnose the issue. It feels like they're trying to con me into paying double for a "apple hd". What can I do to get my computer working?

I would purchase an external USB enclosure for the HDD. With the HDD in the enclosure, install OSX and then mount in your MacBook. If you continue to have problems, it could be a faulty internal SATA cable.

  • Had to erase hard drive, now pages docs won't open

I had an issue with my Mac and had to erase my hard drive, and start from scratch.  I sent my essential pages documents via e-mail, and re-downloaded them, then re-downloaded pages, but now the documents won't open, with no explanation given.

JPS3, if by any reason there was a problen while uploading the file, I think there is nothing that can be done. Now, if the problem was downloading, you can try redownloading the file again and give it a try.
Any chances you have a copy on iCloud? (sometimes I hit save superfast without knowing it was save at iCloud).
Is this file created in the same version of the Pages you downloaded? or  is it older?
I know that its no good for this case, but next time I recommend you use sites like Box, Dropbox or iCloud.
Hope you can recover your files.

  • 'Resource Busy' problem when installing OSX 10.5.4 from external firewire

    Hi,
I'm giving my old powerbook to a friend and would like to wipe it and reinstall 10.5 on the system. The catch is that the internal DVD player is fried.
I have an external firewire dvd player than I use to install.
The installer boots up properly, but when I go into disk utility to erase or repartion the drive, I receive a "resource busy" error.
The hard drive shows up in the left window, but the hard drive volume does not. I do not have the ability to mount or unmount the volume for that drive.
How can I gain access to the drive to repartition (or erase) the volume, so I can do a clean install?
    Please advise,
    and thanks.
    -S

Never had that issue. If you can boot from the ext DVD player, then you should be able to mount/unmount the int HD's volume. You might try on another computer or use another computer, hooking up the PB in target disk mode.

  • TS1600 I received a 2008 Imac with erased hard drive.  I have the two discs to install OS X but when it tries to boot just  comes up Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. Is there anything I can do to get this running

I rceived a 2008 Imac with erased hard drive.  They gave me the two install discs but it keeps coming up cannot install OS X on this computer.
Is there anything to do. Thanks hopefully

Well, Apple would probably point out that what you are trying to do violates the EULA.
Technically speaking, however, the issue is that the install/restore DVDs that ship with Macs do not carry all the drivers, or even all of the various versions of libraries that support all of the various models of Macs. The come-with-your-Mac disks are different than the retail versions of the OS (also, the come-with-your-Mac ones bundle iLife, which the retail ones don't).
Because the come-with-your-Mac disk contains only the drivers specific to that generation and model line of Mac, it contains a stub of code that verifies that your hardware matches the driver set on the install/restore DVD.
Your friend has a different model of Mac, with different hardware, so her install/restore disk won't work in yours. Solution: go get the retail boxed version of Leopard.

  • Need help installing 10.8 on my erased hard drive

Hi,I bought 10.8 and created a bootable disk on a flash drive.
Then, instead of erasing my drive as part of the installation of 10.8, I booted from the flash drive, the used Disk Utilities to erase the drive.  (I know you don't have to erase your drive, but my MBPro has slowed down so much, I decided to)
I don't know why, but now I cannot see the flash drive as a startup disk option - in fact I can't see anything as a startup drive.
When I restart while holding Command + R, I eventually get a box in the middle of screen called "Mac OS X Utilities." There are four options, including Reinstall Mac OS X with the subhead, "Set up and install a new copy of Lion" (not Mountain Lion)
    What should I do?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
That's not what I meant but I tried that after reading your reply. Three icons appeared
on the screen--Recovery HD, Mac OS X, and an external hard drive.
When I click either of the first two, they lead me back to the Mac OS X Utilities box. But this time the OS is
    10.8, not 10.7.
However when I click on reinstall the only hard drives it shows me are my external and the flash drive. But the flash drive already has 10.8
    Thanks!
