Eraser in CS 4 won't work

THe eraser likes to be a paint tool instead. All other tools work fine, but not this one. I'm using a Wacom tablet and pen and tried the Wacom mouse and one attached to the USB and none worked. I switched keyboards and no help there. That must mean the PS software is the fault.
What I can't understand is why do all the other tools work just fine, but not this one? I'm in the middle of a mess of drawings and need this tool for detailing lines. The software was installed some time ago and I hope whatever fixes it needed in the past are still obtainable.
Is there something else I could try besides and uninstall? This is really weird......thanks so much for the help....mm

Sh-ss-ss......I don't know what has happened. But for some very strange reason for the last 10 minutes, I've been able to erase some of the work I was doing. I don't get it! Perhaps the "reset" button was the charm. I thought of another cause, and that was in my anger and frustration, I may have been trying the eraser out on the wrong layer. I'm not sure that Didn't happen, but even that would not explain why I'd get white paint instead of removal.
Don't know what to say except a big thank you for the ideas and hopefully, I can keep going......I'll let 'cha know.......mm

Adobe CS5 Eraser tool won't work

My eraser tool won't work on any adjustment layers I add. It will erase on a background copy but not on a curves or black and white layer. It's strange because my brush tools are working and the eraser tool has been working up until now. It's not even showing up on the thumbnail image and my opacity is set to 100 % and I have tried pencil, block and brush tool. The burn and doge tools won't work either.
I have tried resetting my tools under the drop down menu awa resetting tool preferences, preferences and restarting the program whilst holding down ctrl, alt, shift. I am working on a Microsoft Windows 7 (OS). Everything else seems to be working okay.
Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated

If you paint Black on the Layer Mask, it will mask the effect of the adjustment in the Adjustment Layer. Likewise if you paint White on the Layer Mask it will cause the adjustment to take full effect. Grays in between will cause the adjustment to be only partially applied in that area.
If you happen to have Black selected for the background color, the Eraser tool will act like a brush painting black (and thus hiding the adjustment) when you use it on the Layer Mask. That's probably what you did to see the Eraser tool work on an Adjustment Layer in the past.
As stated above, most folks use the brush tool for working on Layer Masks.

Do you have another Mac? If so, you can startup this one in "Target Disk Mode" (instructions here) and connect it to another Mac to delete the home folders (or the entire drive, if that's what you want).
One piece of advise, though: after deleting the data, and of course emptying the Trash, it wouldn't hurt to also securely erase the "free space" of the drive (instructions here) before disconnecting the old Mac from the new one. This can be helpful, since "deleted" data is often retrievable with ease unles it's written over after the deletion.

When I type something in the Google or Youtube dialog box I can't erase it or edit it. Unable to backspace either. Cursor won't work.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

Adjustment layer selective erase won't work

I use adjustment layers all the time in PS elements, and usually if I create an adjustment, I can erase part of the layer with the eraser tool. This has stopped working. Now my erasor tool doesn't affect adjustment layers at all. (Photo layers work just fine)
Does anyone know why this could be?

The O key shortcut toggles an overlay colour, which will tell you whether you are successfully painting "mask" or not. If set to Erase, or otherwise zeroed as Hal P Anderson says, nothing will happen regardless of the strength of the selected adjustment. The adjustments themselves can be changed before you start painting, during or after.
If you don't see the individual adjustment sliders, note that the brush panel has an expanded and a collapsed mode, controlled by a small arrow at the right hand end of the "Effect" line.
Besides the mask overlay, the adjustment sliders can also be used to set a deliberately extreme adjustment so you can see what you are doing, and then you can tone that down to taste afterward. Dragging on the "pin" to right and left sides respectively, exaggerates or mutes all of the sliders - moves them proportionally further away from, or toward, their zero points.

Well, yes, data does get corrupted sometimes.
The trick is finding what data.
By 'cleaned' are you therefor meaning that the drive has been erased and the system re-installed?
Because that's the quickest way to deal with such a situation.
Back up the system first of course,
Add back 3rd party apps one at a time in case one of them is causing the problem.

Satellite A200 28H : F6 floppy won't work while installing XP

Hi,
I'm trying to install Windows XP pro on my new laptop (Satellite A200 28H), and since it needs SATA driver, I have downloaded the appropriate driver for my laptop (Satellite A200 28H), put them on a floppy to use with a USB floppy drive (which works fine), pressed "F6" when appropriate and all... But it just won't work. I have had a computer technician background for a few years, so even thouh this is no longer my job and I might be a bit rusty, I think I still know at least a bit what I'm doing... Well, apparently I'm more out of picture than I thought !
I have tried several things, and here is what I get :
* If I do not use the floppy at all, Windows XP will not find the hard disk. That was expected, no problem here, save for the fact it is utterly useless to me :)
* If I force the driver on the floppy, despite Windows telling me it already has a driver it can use, then within 10 seconds I get a BSOD with the 0x7B stop message (boot device not found or unreachable).
* If I use the floppy, but do not force the driver and instead listen to Windows ("oh, you already have a driver ? Ok, then, use it and nevermind that floppy"), I can actually finish the installation process. Windows will copy all the files it needs on the drive, it will even reboot properly after that and go on installing itself. But when the installation is over, the computer will reboot, I will see the loading screen for a second, and then, BSOD stop 0x7B again.
I'm pretty sure I have downloaded the proper driver for my computer. Actually, I also tried a couple of wrong drivers too, just to be sure (ie I should use Intel Matrix for ICH8M, but I also tried the one for ICH7M to be sure), I tried with drivers downloaded from the Toshiba website, from the Intel website, and from whatnot-other-website-for-newbies-or-powerusers, and I always have the same behaviour as described above.
I have tried partitioning / formating during the installation, and I also have tried leaving the file system untouched. If I do the latter, the only difference is that I am offered 2 possible OS to boot from, both being Windows XP, and both failing miserably.
It's probably interesting to mention that, if I use the recovery DVD and start fresh and clean with Vista, I have no problem whatsoever, save for the gazillion process loaded at startup, the already half-used RAM and the hundred or so useless applications I don't give a darn about... And the fact that some applications I need to work just can't be installed on Vista.
If anyone has any idea about how to fix it, I'd be most grateful !

The procedure including the SATA drivers into the Win XP using the external USB floppy drive is very easy.
First of all you have to download the Storage Manger and have to put it on the floppy.
During the Win XP Setup procedure you have to press F6 button to include it from the external floppy drive and follow the further instruction on the screen.
_Note;_
Very important is that your Win XP CD would contains the SP2!!!
Without the SP2 a BSOD could appears and could break up the installation!!!
Dont format or dont create any partitions after the SATA driver installation. This can erase the installed and included SATA driver from the HDD.
Last but not least some external FDD drives are not supported. I read that some users had some problems with an external FDD drives they tested another drive and it worked finally

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. "ctrl-c" won't work in terminal

All,
I just finished installing maverick. and for some weird reason, "ctrl-c"won't work in terminal.
i cannot break, and my commands will keep running.
for example pinging google will keep going and the only way to stop that, is to close the whole terminal.
pressing "ctrl z"or "Ctrl c"wont work, it just shows z or c characters...
I checked the keyboard viewer and noticed two characters always set to orange which are:
' & `
now the weird thing, that if these were trully pressed, i wouldn't be able to type and you'll actually see lots of ticks and single quotation marks.
Any hint on how to fix this ?

Sorry. There's nothing anyone can do. The current version of the facebook app will not run on 4.2.1. The iPhone 3G won't run anything higher than 4.2.1. You're stuck.
Maybe it's time to buy yourself a new iPod Touch.

Adobe Apps Won't Work

I upgraded to Tiger finally. Upgraded to Final Cut Studio as well. After the upgrades, all Adobe Products decided to quit working. Also, DVD Studio Pro won't work either.
System Information:
- Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5, 4 GB DDR SDRAM, Running 10.4.6 with all the latest software updates installed.
I have tried to repair disk permissions, delete preferences, delete .plists, ran Onyx and nothing has worked. As well, Tiger just seems to run slower compared to Panther.
Photoshop 7.0.1:
- "Could not initialize Photoshop because there is not enough memory (RAM)."
Illustrator 10.0.3:
- Bounces twice in the dock and that's it.
After Effects 6.0:
- "After Effects error: Unkown Bravo Error"
- "After Effects error: invalid container"
- "After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialize AGM."
At this point, the only thing I know to do is erase the whole hard drive and start over. Any suggestions?

Well, I wiped the hard drive clean and re-installed everything and now the Adobe Apps work fine...

Isight won't work in OSX, works in boot camp (XP SP3)

Within the last few weeks, my iSight camera stopped working. I went through every troubleshooting step recommended by Apple with no luck. I gave up hope and was ready to take it to the Apple store, but decided to see if it would work in windows... strangely enough it works great, but still won't work in OSX. I'd like to avoid taking it to the store, so any help is greatly appreciated!

You can the following three things (listed in order of increasing effort on your part) before seeking professional help:
(1) Apply the latest (10.5.7) Combo Updater using the following procedure:
• Backup all your important files.
• Use your Mac's Disk Utility to Repair disk permissions (different from repairing the "disk").
• Download and apply the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Combo Update.

• Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that completes the install.
(Don't worry about corrections if Disk Utility reports that all repairs have been completed.)
• Launch only the OS X app you are trying to use with iSight and test to see if iSight works correctly.
Using the above process to apply the Combo Updater sometimes solves problems that occur after using your Mac's Software Update... to update Mac OS.
(2) If your problem still exists, reinstall OS X using the "Archive and Install" options explained here:

Be certain that you have backed up all important files before you reinstall OS X.
(3) If your problem is not resolved by Archive and Install, you can completely Erase and Install all your Mac's software.
Erasing your iMac's hard disk and reinstalling all software as described in the Erase and Install section of http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545 might correct a problem that remains after an Archive and Install.
Erase and Install is a lot of work, but sometimes it is the only way to get rid of something on the disk that is causing problems.
(4) If none of that works, see your Apple Service Technician for professional help.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

Yes I just discovered that this morning but I have purchased another external harddrive and formatted it for both and am in the process of transferring the files across it and then I will erase the old harddrive and reformat it so I can use it.
I have learnt to format harddrives from this experience but am happy to see the back of parallells.

About a week ago, my apple mail (aol and google accounts) stopped pulling. They won't work on any of my apple products. It keeps saying unknown error. It will add my contacts for google and calendar, but nothing for AOL.
I have erased my computer and reinstalled the new operating system thinking maybe something was missing (component wise) but it still won't work. I don't know what to do. Please help.
