Erasing ALL data from iPad - Is it possible to retrieve info?

Hi there,
I have a quick question.
When erasing all content and settings from the iPad to sell it, is it possible to retrieve the lost data at all? (With any high tech data retrievel software or something magical)
I want to be 100% that if I restore the iPad to factory settings there is NO WAY that someone will be able to get my personal info back. (Even it comes down to removing the SSD from the iPad and using a special tool or something)
Many thanks

100%? No, of course not. You can never be assured 100% of anything. If the FBI/NSA were interested in you, and wanted to extract information from your iPad, they would probably have a jolly good try, and would possibly be able to retrieve information. High-level law enforcement agencies tend to have these tools. If you think you might fall into a group of people who such agencies might be interested in, it's almost certainly worth the $700 for you just to smash your iPad to tiny bits with a hammer rather than sell it on.
If not, though ... no, a random Joe you sell your iPad onto won't be able to retrieve your data once you securely wipe it. 256-bit AES encryption is even used and recommended by the US government:

  • Erase all data from original iPhone

I've upgraded to the iPhone 3G and am in the process of selling the 1st generation. My cell service has been transferred to the new phone - the sim card that came with the 3G is now in the original phone. I want to be sure to all my data is erased. Since it's not an active phone, how do I do that? Can I take the sim from the 3G, install in the original and then erase all data?

If you are selling your 2G iphone, I may be interested. I just broke the screen of mine and found out that replacing it cost almost as much as a 3G. I don't want a 3G as AT&T charges more per month would also charge for texting. Thanks! You can contact me at [email protected]

  • Erase all data from my 2001 iMac?

I just turned on my old 2001 iMac (the cute blue color), and discovered to my surprise that it started and is running without a problem (I haven't even looked at it since i bought my powerbook 3 years ago). I'd like to sell the iMac.
How do I clear it of all the personal data I have on it, so i can sell it without worry? And, what do you think i could get for it?
    thanks.

Use Disk Utility to Erase the hard drive. Boot to the Tiger DVD or CD-ROM. Select your langauge. Select Disk Utility from the Installer menu. Choose the Zero All Data option in the Security screen. I'm not sure how much money exactly such a iMac would sell for. iMac DVs with Matshita SR-8184 DVD-ROM drives are worth the most. This is because the slot loading DVD-ROM drive can be flashed to RPC1. This means the drive is region free & can play DVDs from any region of the world. • Erasing all data from Time Capsule

I bought a 500gb TC from Best Buy less than a month ago. Before purchasing I asked about the capacity. I explained to the salesperson that after a crash a year ago I was able to locate my most important files by connecting to my Powerbook and backed them up onto 6-8 DVDs. He said that was about 30gb. I also said that I had the Powerbook and a Mac Mini with about the same or a little less data that would be backed up. He assured me that 500gb would be plenty of room.
After backing up all three with no new data, 2/3 of the capacity has been used. I am planning on returning the 500gb and getting a 1T. Hopefully I can do so without incurring a restocking fee.
How do I do a clean erase of the Time Capsule before exchanging? I do not want any of my information left on it. Also how much time should I anticipate the process taking? Thanks in advance for all responses.

  • How do I erase all aps from ipad 1 and put them on ipad2?

My ipad2 has shipped. I want to give my ipad1 to a colleagues=, but I want to give it to him without my stuff (music, email addresses, aps, photos, etc.) as if it is all new.
I also do not want my itunes to assume that the ipad1 is still a device I am using. In other words, I want to eliminate the ipad1 from itunes and all my personal stuff from the ipad1 device. Does any one have any procedures to follow?

Open iTunes with the original iPad attached. On the Summary page click Restore. You will be asked: " Back up" your device or "Don't Back up". The choice is yours but it reply doesn't matter since you can begin with your new iPad fresh, or set up from the back up. In any event the iTunes content of songs , movies, TV shows, podcasts,  and photos calendars etc can all be done fresh since the info is on your computer. Click "Restore" and Apple will extract the software, and restore to factory settings (with iOS 4.3.2), ready for the next owner. Once the process has completed and you have received the message that it is OK to disconnect then do so. now you are ready to connect your new iPad2 and begin the set up just as you did for the original iPad (or iPod, or iPhone since the process is identical). The mobile apps that you have are on record with the app store and they will be synced to your new device once you confirm your iTunes Store/App Store ID; there will be no need to re-purchase them.

  • Had many issues with phone, decided to erase all data and now it won't finish

Okay here's the rundown of my problem on my iPhone 5 32GB. I can't check currently (you'll understand why later) but I believe it was on iOS 7.1.1 as I know it wasn't the absolute most recent version. First off, my lock button is sometimes unresponsive, a hardware issue and I haven't gotten around to getting that fixed yet. Anyways.
Today I wanted to open up my twitter app. The instant it opens, everything freezes. I mean everything: screen, lock button, home button, everything. The screen usually shuts off after 90s if I don't do anything, so the screen went black after this time as everything I did didn't register. Now with the screen being black, still no response from most things. The only thing I can do is activate Siri, though the screen still doesn't turn on, just the sound. She couldn't usually hear me, and if she did it would take her about a minute or so to respond. I can still connect to iTunes (windows 8) though so I did that, but I stopped the initial sync. I tried doing the hold both buttons for 10s thing but that didn't work (might be because the lock button is iffy) so I couldn't start recovery mode.
At this point, I decide the only thing I could do (because no where on Google anyone had a similar problem) is to restore the phone, either to factory or to a backup. When I tried these options in iTunes, it told me that it could not do this while Find my iPhone is active, and to go to settings on my phone to turn it off. I can't open settings with the screen black. I tried going to icloud.com in order to see if I could turn it off from there. The site could find my phone just fine, could make the sound just fine. I could however not remove the device from iCloud unless the phone was turned off (which I again can't do with a black screen).
At this point, I went to the directory with the backup on my computer and copied it to another location. Then in iTunes I did a sync to create a new backup. Now the only thing that was available for me to do was on the web site to erase all data from the phone as it did not require Find my iPhone to be turned off. Feeling out of options, I went through with it and clicked erase. For some reason, this is the time that the screen decides to turn on. The phone showed the apple logo and a progress bar. The bar progressed quickly at first but then slowed as it neared the end. At this current point, it's been at what appears to be 100% for around an hour with nothing happening. The buttons do nothing, my computer can't see the device so iTunes won't do anything.
Is there anything else I could try to do or should I just wait it out. My city does have an apple store which I could go to tomorrow but if I could get my phone running tonight that would be great. Also, if I can't do anything and it doesn't budge, if I take it to the store would it cost a lot to fix or (if necessary) replace? It was a birthday gift two years ago, bought without a plan, and I don't think it's still under warranty.

    Hi..thanks for your advice!
Ok, I am student so buying a new phone is not possible ;( This experience has turned me off Apple anyway! All I did was click yes to their iTunes upgrade prompt asking me if I want to update....and now I don't have a phone and can't access all my backup etc on my iTunes because it seems the only way to get to it is with another iPhone!?
I can't believe that through the Apple recycling program I could possibly get $50 for this phone because the hardware is perfect but there is no support for this issue...feels like Apple is just trying to force everyone with hacked phone to buy new ones!

  • How can i delete all data from treo 750 - where is the hard reset button for the treo 750

I'm giving my phone to my brother and want to delete all my data from the treo 750 (AT&T).  All the other posts I read doesn't tell me where the reset button is.  Please Help!
Post relates to: Treo 750 (AT&T)

Hello and welcome to the Palm forums.
A hard reset wipes everything off your device. A hard reset is performed by holding down the power/end call button while removing the battery from your device for a few seconds. Keep your hand on the power/end call button until you put the battery back into your device. After you put the battery back in, the screen will say "Palm Powered." Take your hand off the power/end call button. You will now see a screen in 5 languages prompting you to erase all data from the palm. The screen will say "erase all data? Yes - up, no - down" and you need to click on the up arrow (button on the 5 way navigator on the bottom of the treo). This will erase all the info from your device.
    I hope this was helpful!

Another way to perform the Hard Reset is by using this free program called "Hard Reset" by D. Grinberg:

Install it and run it, BAM!  Your TX has been hard reset.
