Erasing duplicate Contact groups

My iPhone4 Contacts has duplicated contacts "From My Mac" and from "iCloud". This probably happened becasue I was syncing to myMac before iCloud services came on line. How can I erase all the contacts from my mac?

I want to do the same on my iphones and on 3 other Macs.I moved to Lion and then icloud from mobileme on one of my imacs and it displays icloud contacts only which is what I want on the rest of my devices.  I have looked in all the preference panes and cannot find a way to delete or hide the 'on my mac' list.I have set i cloud as the default account on the 3 macs and still I see the "all on my mac"groups. Can anyone help ?

  • Duplicate contact groups

I have duplicate contact groups in itunes for windows. These duplicates do not exist in outlook. When syncing these duplicate groups our put on my iphone.

I had this happen.  I deleted the groups on my Mac in the CONTACTS.  That cleared it up.

  • Remove duplicate contact groups

I have hundreds of duplicate contact groups in my icloud contacts and on my macbook pro. I cannot find help with this.  I am using Mavericks.

I found a solutiuon that worked for me from a different thread posted below.  The only thing I did differently was I moved the whole directory /AddressBook to my desktop.  When I launched Contacts after that, I saw that OS X created a new AddressBook directory.  I then went to iCloud and switched Contacts back on and boom I had all my updated contacts from iCloud WITHOUT duplicate groups!
    Back up all data.
Quit Contacts or Address Book if it’s running. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud  preference pane.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
Relaunch the application and test. If there’s no improvement, quit and put back the item you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • Deleting Duplicate Contact Group

So... I sync'd my contacts "from my mac" while I was already syncing with MobileMe, and now I have duplicates of all my contacts, and as such I would like to delete the "All from My Mac" group.
In searching for a solution, I found various older posts all of which basically said that you cannot delete an entire contact group on an iPhone. But as the most recent post I found was 6 months old, I am wondering if anybody out there has any new insight they can provide to solve this mildly annoying situation?
    Lance.

To get rid of the duplicate contacts caused by syncing with both MobileMe and your computer:
    1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe account > Contacts > "OFF"
    2. You will be asked what you want to do with previously synced contacts - select "Delete from my iPhone".
    3. Connect your phone to iTunes, go to device page, info tab and disable sync contacts.
    4. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe acct > Contacts > "ON"
    5. You will then get message: "There are existing contacts synced with your Mac. Would you like to merge them with your MobileMe account?" Choose "Do not merge."
    6. You will then be asked: "What would you like to do with the existing contacts on your iPhone?" Choose "Delete."
    7. In a couple of minutes your phone will sync back your contacts from MobliMe, without the duplicate copy from your computer.
If you also have duplicate Calendar entries, do the same process with calendars - can be done at the same time.

  • Deleting duplicate contact groups

My iPhone has two contact groups of the same name. One of the duplicate group's is empty. One has appropriate contacts. My computer's address book does not have the same duplication. Yet, when I sync through iTunes the duplicate group still remains on the iPhone. How do I remove this duplication?

  • 6 iCloud duplicate contacts groups

I’ve disconnected from iCloud, it has never worked for me. Now iCloud had duplicated itself numerous times in addition to duplicating groups within each iCloud group:
Howcan I fix this easily and remove the duplicate iCloud groups? I tried using the duplicate removal tool but only got “The operation has failed” dialog.
I guess from now on it is iTunes syncing over USB. This started when I tried unsuccessfully to log into iClod from an external disk plugged into my Mac. It just seems like iCloud is nothing but a headache.

In addition, I tried to move this message to a better page but all I got was this error:

  • How can I erase duplicate contacts on my iphone?

I have 100's so I can't do it one by one.

You can go to your phone contacts and go under the number you trying to erase and when you pull up there name by touch it hit the edit at the top of the phone on the right hand side,After you hit that go down to Delete contact it's going to be at the bottom of your phone. And that's it that's all you have to do.
Okay when you get home and you hook up your phone to your computer well you know your itunes going to open up and say that your phone have contacts on it thats not on your computer are something like that make sure you hit no to not sync cause it's going put it back on there after you do that the first time and you go back and sync your phone it's not going to ask you that.
Are you can go to the started menu at the bottom of your computer and type that person name in and hit deleted and when you sync your phone you don't have to worry about the duplicate of the contacts getting back on your phone after you sync your phone again,There so many different way people can do stuff it's what ever comfortable for you.

  • HT4897 Icloud email alias apparently causing duplicate notes and contact groups

I seem to be getting duplicate notes and nearly duplicate contact groups as a result of my alias email account.  This coincided with the upgrade of my iphone, but the problem is on my iMac running Mountain Lion OS.
When I open preferences for Mail, Contacts, & Calendars,  I see one iCloud icon with a cloud and another with an @ sign.  The one with the @ sign is associated with my alias email account.  I still use that account.
Any idea how to correct this?

  • Deleted duplicate contacts from icloud and want to sync updated contacts to iphone and ipad?

    Can anyone help with this?
Deleted duplicate contacts from icloud and want to sync updated contacts to iphone and ipad?  Did it on icloud cause have duplicates on ipad and iphone also

Check icloud.com to be sure you contact list is correct there.  If it is, just go to Settings>iCloud on your device and turn Contacts to On to sync the contacts to your device.  If contacts are already set to On and you still see duplicates, you may be viewing a duplicate contact group in addition to the iCloud contacts.  Open Contacts, tap Groups, then tap any groups other than iCloud to uncheck them, then tap Done.  See if the duplicates are still there.

  • Contact groups in iSync

    Hello,
the contact groups I see in iSync do not match with my addressbook! How can i get this information in sync?
    Thanks
    Stephan O.

    Hi Stephan.
I found that iSync had errors when syncing that was stopping it refreshing the groups successfully.
    1. Open Applications > Utilities > Console.
    2. Open iSync and try and sync
Look in the console log and see if it comes up with any entries with error or failure in them. In my case I had an error that a directory did not exist and this was causing iSync to lock up when it came to refreshing groups from Addressbook. My error is reproduced below.
2006-05-30 12:19:26.124 AddressBookSync[324] SyncServices assertion failure ([[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:directory]) in [ISDRecordStore initWithDatabaseInDirectory:], /SourceCache/SyncServices2/SyncServices2-188/SyncServices/ISDRecordStore.m:32 directory does not exist: /Users/xxx/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/0063006f006d002e006100700070006c0065002e0 0410064006400720065007300730042006f006f006b
In my case, I created the directory mentioned which stopped the error occurring. For some other reason when I sync'd next I had duplicate contact groups - but one of the duplicates was empty. I was then able to delete the duplicates in AddressBook and sync my desired group to my phone.
If iSync works correctly, you should only receive one line in the log after syncing if there are no changes e.g.
2006-05-30 12:38:37.709 iSync[339] we receive the end of our sync plan
This may or may not help in your situation.

  • N95 Contact Groups with iSync

    Hi there,
I have done some searching around and can only find old posts on this and was wondering if this had been sorted since.
I have a Macbook and I use contact groups in my Address Book. I would like those contact groups to be created on my n95 address book when I use iSync.
Can this be done? Also, if it can be done with a special program please tell me as I will happily install something to get this to work.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Contacts Groups Duplicates

I would like to know if anyone can help me deletng the "On my Mac" group from my iPhone Contacts,
Since I would only would like to have the iCloud contacts.
If anyone could help me with this,
    Thanks!

Turning off syncing contacts direct with a supported application in your computer via the iTunes sync process followed by selecting Apply does not remove the contacts from your iPhone that were synced direct via the iTunes sync process.
To remove these contacts, do the following.
Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select your Exchange Account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message will be provided indicating this will erase the contacts on your iPhone synced with the Exchange Server. Select OK. If you are provided a prompt to save these contacts locally on your iPhone, decline.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing. You will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select. Since these are duplicates, nothing should be changed with your Exchange contacts.
    This will eliminate the duplicates.
The ability to sync contacts and calendar events direct via the iTunes sync process along with syncing Exchange business contacts and calendar events over the air is for those who want to have personal contacts and calendar events synced with a supported application on their personal computer at home along with their business contacts and calendar events, which are kept separate on the iPhone. You can view business and personal contacts and calendar events combined or separately on your iPhone.

  • DUPLICATE CONTACT INFORMATION, ON MY IPHONE, ICLOUD

this is NOT about duplicate contacts but about on the iphone>contact>groups
    has redundant lists
    ALL CONTACTS
ON MY IPHONE>ALL ON MY IPHONE + CATEGORIES
    ICLOUD>ALL ICLOUD + CATEGORIES
i don't understand all these lists. since everything is synced via icloud
why the whole list on 'on my iphone'? is it because the iphone list sits
in the memory on the iphone and the icloud list is actually accessing what is in icloud
(so for example if you lost contact with icloud there would be nothing there?).
just don't understand the concept. and how to simplify all the scrolling by eliminating
    for example 'on the iphone'

If you synced your phone with iTunes on your Mac, check iTunes/Settings/Devices and see if there is a recent backup of your phone listed. If yes, use it to restore from, contacts are part of the backup.
Also check if syncing contacts is selected in the Info pane in iTunes with your phone connected.
If it says that your contacts can be or are synced from your address book on your Mac, and your address book does have your contacts listed, your contacts will be synced again to your phone the next time you sync it.
Just make sure to have at least one contact listed on the phone, syncing to an iPhone without contacts listed will erase the info on your computer as well.
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Contacts" in OS X v10.8, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" in OS X v10.7 and earlier.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
Address Book (Mac OS X v10.7 and earlier)
    Contacts (Mac OS X v10.8)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
Additional options for syncing include syncing your contacts with Yahoo or Gmail/Google Mail. You will need to configure it with the user name and password for your Yahoo or Google account.
