Erasing programs/info/etc

I'm kind of stuck in a situation here. I'm selling my iMac (purchasing a macbook pro soon) but the problem is, I don't have the original disc to clear my hard drive or reset the system back to default settings.
Is there a way to do this without the disc? And if not, what can I do to erase as much of the information on here as I can before selling. (I know for a fact there aren't any personal items like credit card numbers, bank accounts, or anything of that sort saved on here, but I'd like to erase everything else that I can just to be as safe as possible. Passwords, programs, pictures/videos/music, etc.)

If you have access to another Mac, you can use Target Disk Mode to erase the drive on your iMac. If you sell your iMac, you should really include the install discs, so I suggest you call Apple Customer Relations at 800-767-2775 and ask the to send you the appropriate discs, which they will do for a small fee You can then erase your drive and sell the Mac with all the proper discs.

depends on whose looking i would say. If you can boot into the OS, why not run the secure erase empty space feature. It should overwrite the "blank space" 7 times with 0's. I think its in disk utility. This is probably enough.
But dont sue me if you identity gets stolen (just kidding)

You cannot use that ID without a credit card. You did not create your account correctly. There is very specific way in which you must create your account if you do not want to use a credit card. If you don't have a credit card, you will have to start all over again.
1. You will have to sign out of that ID before you can create a new one. Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID>Sign out.
2. You cannot use the email address that you used for the first ID that you created. You will need to use another email address now
3. You have to download a free app in order to start the new Apple ID process.

Program Info Box Won't Go Away / DVR Timeline Messed Up

Two issues I noticed yesterday:
1) When changing channels yesterday the program info box at the bottom of the screen would not go away. I pressed the 'Exit' key and it would stay off for 10-15 seconds before reappearing. The only resolution seemed to be to hit 'Guide'. More than a bit annoying when you are trying to watch a football game. This happened a few months ago as well.
2) Watching several shows on my DVR I noticed that the timeline was a mess. I went to fast-forward through commercials about 8 minutes into a DIY program and the elapsed time was closer to 15 minutes. Later the elapsed time showed 30:00 and the remaining time was 0:00, but I could still move back and forth through the progam which had about 7 minutes left. I saw this again later on a Discovery show.
Have either of these been reported in the past?

I'm running 1.7.1, and I'm seeing problem #1 all of a sudden. Never had it happen before, and I found this thread while searching to see if anyone else was having this problem. In my case, any time I do something that causes the small info box to appear at the bottom of the screen, it remains there until I press "Exit." I'm concerned that whenever I'm recording and out of the house (i.e. not watching while I record, and therefore not around to hit the "Exit" button) everything on the DVR is going to have the info bar at the bottom of the screen for the entire duration of the program!
Does anyone know why this is happening, and whether a forthcoming firmware update will cure it?

If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.

There's usually a preference provided in the web mail software that can be set for your offset from GMT. I had to format it after I bought it so that it could work with windows and Mac and I'm afraid that if I erase the info in the hard-drive, the format will also change. Is that possible to happen? Or the format will stay the same?

Do you want to continue to use it to share and store files between Windows and NTFS and Mac which uses HFS?
Maybe you need another drive. I would never have only one backup and one "live" data set.
you probably installed something, whether it is current or well supported or not, that came with the drive to allow writing to NTFS.
TimeMachine has to use HFS only and use Apple GPT (GUID) format.
sometimes erase changes a drive to GUID when you click on the raw hard drive name in Disk Utility. other times you can erase a volume and leave the partition format type as is. The wording use to be clearer when people knew when and how to initialize, format and setup a drive. And sometimes a message on the screen says it will be only launches Disk Utility and not to the PARTITION tab to make changes.
In addition to TimeMachine, having a clone of your system or data or both can be very useful as well. Drives fail.
And with a MacBook Air you probably have a smallish internal hard drive and might need to store media files and data on another drive to supplement the internal SSD.

I erased some info by mistake, on my iPad, and I would like to restore it. I do know that I have to 'Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings', but I keep on getting a restriction code that will not be accepted as my code that I set. I have 3 more chances before all data is erased...

If that is what usually happens when you connect your iPad, - if that's how you have the iPad set up to sync - then yes it will sync automatically.
You can open iTunes on your computer. Select Preferences from under the iTunes heading at the top menu. Then select Devices in the preferences pane. Click on the box that says - Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. Quit iTunes and restart your computer. Then connect your iPad.
You may have to launch iTunes on your own when you connect the iPad, but it should not sync automatically now.

I accidentally deleted the entries (names, contact info, etc) in Address Book. My hard drive is fully backed up on another drive.

What kind of backup? If it's a TM backup then open Address Book and select Address Book Help from the Help menu. Search for "restore from time machine." You'll find an article on how to restore entries from a TM backup.
If this is simply a cloned backup then navigate to the /Home/Library/Application Support/ folder on the backup drive and copy the AddressBook folder to the same location on your hard drive.
Then navigate to /Home/Library/Preferences/ and copy the com.apple.addressbook.plist and com.apple.addressbook.abd.plist files from the backup to the same location on your hard drive.
Address Book must not be running.

SW-11 will ignore the VTP updates from other switches because of their lower configuration revision number. At the same time, other switches will receive VTP updates from SW-11 ,finding that the received updates has a higher revison number and thus replace their own vlan info with the received updates. At that time, all switches will have identical vlan information as SW-11.
A typical wrong concept is that switches in VTP client mode cannot overcome switch in server mode. There is no such a definition about VTP client mode. The true definition of VTP client mode , according to "Cisco Lan Switch" by Kenndy Clark, page 545, is that switch in client mode CAN source and listen to VTP messages, but CANNOT create and remember VLAN. ("source" means send out VTP message, "remember" means store VLAN info on the NVRAM)
According to this definition, switches in server mode and client mode will both send out VTP messages, and there is no rule that messages from server mode should beat the one from client mode. The rule is the revision number determines who will win. However, it is rarely possible to make switch in client mode to have an higher revision number than one in server mode. I have designed a lab to make this happen, described as follows.
I have 3 swithces and have them connect as below:
SW1---SW3---SW2
SW1 and SW2 are VTP servers, while SW3 is a VTP client. The connections among them are trunks.
First I create 10 VLANs on SW1. All switches have 10 VLANs and VTP revision number 10.
Then I shutdown the connection between SW3 and SW2. SW2 is isolated from others, but VLAN info among them is still the same
Then I delete 5 VLAN on SW1. Now SW1 and SW3 have only 5 VLANs and VTP revision number 15. SW2 has 10 VLANs and VTP revision number 10.
Then I shutdown the connection between SW1 and SW3. Now we have 3 isolated switches. SW3 have 5 VLANs and VTP revision number 15. SW2 has 10 VLANs and VTP revision number 10.
Notice that SW3 is in VTP client mode and have an higher revision number than SW2 which is a VTP server. Now I restore the connection between SW3 and SW2 so they can start to exchange VTP message, and the result is -- Client prevails Server. HOORAY!
Option A commit a wrong concept and hope someone fall into the trap. Unfortunately , this happens all the time.
