Erazer doesn't recognize Nvidia Geforce 650 card

In brief, after a series of failed attmepts to repair my H530 desktop, Lenovo replaced it with an Erazer x510, since the H530 was no longer in production. When the Erazer arrived, I was unable to get a video signal. I tried my HDMI and VGA cables. I didn;t have a DVI cable, at the time. I was unaware that the BIOS was set to use the installed card. (In my defense, all my previous PCs used a VGA cable, no matter what the graphics source.) A tech diasbled the card by unplugging the power cable, then reset the BIOS for IGD. Since I was interested in trying the Nvidia card (when life unexpectedly gives you a fairly powerful game machine, it seems like the height of ingratitude not to play games), I bought a DVI-D cable. The monitor couldn't detect a signal. (I tried both AUTO and PEG in the BIOS.) I guess the lack of signla wasn't a complete surprise for several reasons:
1. The device manager shows only Intel graphics.
2. There’s an Nvidai control panel, but it gives a message: “Nvidia display settings are not available. An Nvidia graphics card was not detected in your system.”
A file search for “Nvidia” prosduced one hit, from the file GlobalInstallorder.xml
component order="0x10c5000" name="machine.inf.nvidia_sys.ntx86.nvidiaagp_install, Type=driver, Version=6.1.0.0, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35"/>
The fan on the card does work.
My bios settings (just the ones I believe might be relevant) are:
CSM [disabled]
Boot mode auto
Quick boot [enabled]
Secure Boot [Enabled]
I would love to be able to use the card. After going to a lot of forums where "graphics card not recognized" produced a hit,  it seems like my options would include:
Download a driver
Remove the card and reinstall it
Disable secure boot
Enable legacy devices
I am hesitant to do anything that might prevent the computer from functioning. It's my work machine, so I don't want to brick it. I downloaded the Nvidia driver, but didn't install it. Is that a safe first step, or should I settle for restricting my play to my PS3 and Xbox 360? Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

That's a bummer. I had the same problem but can't remember the exact steps I took to fix it. At first it would not recognize my graphics cards because they were different (NVIDEA, RADEON), and would ONLY recognize the NVIDEA 7300. Then I updated all the drivers and swapped the order of my cards around, and changed the slot settings with the Expansion Slot utility (if you are on an older MacPro). After some tweaking they all loaded and are working well but don't have all the extra features that a new graphics card would have.

  • CS5.5 doesn't recognize my quadro 4000 card

    Hello
I just installed cs5.5 keeping cs5.0.3 also installed. When I open premiere cs5.5 the mercury playback switch in the project settings dialog box is grayed out. It is set on software playback and can't be changed. I then uninstalled CS5.0.3, rebooted, opened premiere cs5.5. It (cs5.5) still doesn't recognize my quadro 4000 card. I am running windows 7. Thanks for the help

    Hello Todd
I have solved the problem. I had CS5 production suite on this pc for about a
year. I upgraded to CS5.5 about a week ago. I read your post about having
both versions installed on the same pc with out problems so I installed
CS5.5 along side of CS5. Both versions worked fine but CS5.5 didn't
recognize my quadro 4000 card. Having 30 years of experience with computers,
I decided to delete my quadro 4000 driver (267.79) and then install it
again. That solved the problem. Hope this helps you. Thanks

  • Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?

I have a Macbook Core Du0 1.83ghz running 10.6.3. Each time I watch a video on youtube or watching Flash or other multimedia animations, my fan run super fast.
Is it the same with the new Macbook with the Nvidia Geforce graphic card?
Does the fan on Macbooks with Nvidia Geforce graphic cards run less often?

Watching videos taxes the GPU and CPU. That's why the fan runs faster - to cool the computer. When you aren't doing much the fan slows down. This is true of all the laptops regardless of which GPU is involved.
Since you have the first generation MB model, it runs hotter than later models that incorporated some changes to the cooling system making the fan run faster during idle. You can accomplish a similar result using the third-party fan control software, SMCFanControl - VersionTracker or MacUpdate. It can be used to increase the fan's idle speed to 2000 RPM. This won't make the fan run any slower when the computer heats up.

  • Cs6 doesn't recognize NVidia Card for graphics processing?

On starting up Cs6 for the first time, the program said that it doesn't recognize the NVidia GeForce 7300 GT. Is this right? Is this going to be true for the release?

That's a bummer. I had the same problem but can't remember the exact steps I took to fix it. • DVI to Component video w/ MacBook Pro and NVIDIA GeForce 8600M card...

I just got a new MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M video card. On the NVIDIA website for the card, it states:
"Integrated HDTV encoder provides analog TV-output (Component/Composite/S-Video) up to 1080i/1080p resolution".
I have a Sony HDTV that only has component video (Y Pr Pb) inputs (the red/green/blue inputs). It is capable of HD up to 1080i.
If the NVIDIA card does output an analog TV (Component) signal, it should work. However, when I went to the place that sells the DVI-to-Component adapter, I got some bad news:
    See it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E8V0YI/ref=pdluc_sbs_0202
I wrote a question to the Sewell folks about this product and asked this:
Will this work with the dual link DVI-I port on my macbook pro? Graphics card info: Nvidia 8600 GT 256MB of GDDR3 memory Here is the link to the card's site: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600.html
    They answered:
Unfortunately this will not work. While the GPU may support the function, the Mac Version of the cards do not implement the component signal.
I think they are still thinking about the older MacBooks that use the ATI chipset and don't know about the new NVIDIA cards.
Is component really not implemented in the new MacBook Pros?
I have the 17" model that has more VRAM than the 15" and I got the HD screen upgrade.
Does anyone know any solution that will work with the MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA chipset? As I said, I'm trying to output an HD signal from the DVI port on the MacBook Pro to component video input on my HD television.
    Thanks for the help.

Sorry, the website for the Sewell adapter is here:

  • Is NVIDIA GeForce 6600 card compatible with OpenGL 2.0?

    Hi there -
Is my GeForce 6600 card compatible with openGL 2.0?
I have some software that tells me it is not and I've just spent lots of money buying it - I did make a quick check on-line before making my software purchase and found out that the whole 6000 series was compatible.
Reading again it says it has been OK for 2.1 from June 2006 onwards. I bought my Mac in May 2006
Can I install a new driver or something (almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about)?
If so is this something I can do or do I have to take my whole machine to the hospital?
I'm not that confident messing with too much technical stuff so treat me like an idiot ... please!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards - Deano

    Hi-
    Back from work......
BD has you going the right direction on RAM.
CS4 needs as much RAM as you can throw at it.
Buy only guaranteed Mac compatible RAM.
As for hard drive, getting a TB or so for storage is great, but you also need a fast scratch drive, separate from the system drive.
Improvements to hard drive technology have been made since the G5 was released, so replacing the system drive with a new one is a good idea.
For the fastest system drive, which helps overall performance, the Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB is an ideal candidate.
For more of a budget drive, but still fast, a WD6400AAKS 640GB drive is an overall winner, with fast read and write times, and all that capacity confined to two platters in the drive.
This is one of the keys to the drives performance prowess.
For scratch, you will have large files that are written, changed, erased, as filters, etc. are applied.
PS gobbles drive space even more than it eats RAM.
Again, the WD6400AAKS, or a WD1001FALS 1TB drive is what you should look at.
And when we talk scratch drives, I mean that it does nothing else.
    Not for file storage, etc.
File storage needs to be relegated to a third drive for system optimization.
To recap, a fast boot drive (OS and applications only), a scratch drive, and as many file storage drives as you need for multiple copies (min 2) of all work.
As for graphics card, yes there is improvement to be had, especially with regard to OpenGL support in CS4.
PS also leverages the GPU of the graphics card, so power is desired.
A Mac 7800GT, Radeon X1900 G5 Edition, or a flashed Geforce 7800GTX are the three top performing cards.
A Geforce FX4500 is also a possible candidate if your pockets are very deep.
    http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Blog/71BBF3EF-9713-4C53-8B80-26771F8 A4087.html
Of the three cards, the 7800GTX is the top card, and is relatively easy to find. The 512MB version is the most desirable.
You will be looking on eBay for Mac compatible PCIe graphics cards in one of the flavors that I have named.

  • Can't HotSync - Vista 32 won't doesn't recognize my Treo 650 (Sprint)

I just purchased a Windows Vista32 laptop (Dell 1737).  I've installed Palm Desktop 6.2 (with HotSync Manger 7.0.2).  I can't get the hotsync to work.  I think it related to the fact that when I connect my Treo 650 to the laptop via a USB cable, I don't see a reference in the device manager to a Palm device being connected to the machine.
If I select the Add Hardware function from the control panel and look at hardware types that can be manually setup, I can see an entry for "Palm OS Handheld Devices", but it grayed out and can't be selected.
Any thoughts on how to get Vista32 to recognize that the device is connected?  Thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to response.

You may need to "clean" uninstall Palm desktop and start again. It sounds like the drivers are not loading.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
Skip the first step above because you have no data in Palm desktop.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
from your PC Operating System registry.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

If it's not on the system requirements list, then After Effects won't use it for GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer. Read this page for details about what this means:

  • Have an HP Pavilion DV7 with Radeon HD6490M Graphics Card. Photoshop doesn't recognize it.

Photoshop CC doesn't recognize my other video card, which is a Radeon HD6490M.  Can't utilize 3D tools.  Is there something wrong with this particular video card that won't allow it to be recognized?

Here's one idea although it is for a DV6.
First off, reboot and press F10 to go into your BIOS.
Switch the Graphics settings from "dynamic" to "fixed". This will ensure that your computer will not use the default Intel card. I'm not sure why, but it seems as though Rage kept using that card regardless of my settings in Windows.

  • Does Sims 3 Pets work with Snow Leopard and NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics?

So I recently purchased Sims 3 Pets, because as I'm sure someone has heard, my computer met the tech specs published on the game box. But I have the problem in the game that whenever a horse appears, the game freezes. I've heard that updating Leopard (I have 10.5.8) to Snow Leopard fixes the problem. However, I've also heard that Sims 3 does not work with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics. (But apparently Snow Leopard needs this graphic card to run?).
So my main question is does anyone know if Sims 3 Pets works with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 card and Snow Leopard?

*** Just a Note: I've been playing the original Sims 3 game on my mac since it originally came out. I haven't had problems until this particular expansion pack.

  • Is Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 adequate?

Before I break the seal and open the box, a question:
The system requirements listed on the Aperture materials list several nvidia GeForce graphics cards, but not the 5200 card I have installed in my G5. Will aperture operate with the 5200 card? Or should I abandon my plan to use the program and return it unopened to the retailer?

    Supported? No.
Can be made to work? Yes.
Do a Google. You can modify a part of the Aperture executable to remove the limitation that stops you using the FX5200. You will have to do it after each update.
    Adequate? Depends on your patience.
Its very slightly buggy in that the loupe doesnt always completely fill, though that seems far better under 1.1.2.
Its not especially fast and your milage will depend on what camera you use it with. I have a D70 and mainly use for sorts/selects with up to 500 photos in a project folder and for my usage, it works fine.
The thumbnail browser works fine and a pic will 'load' to full rez in 4-5 secs (if not already cached) on my G5 Powermac 1.8 single.

  • Photoshop CS6 doesn't recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M GPU?

I just bought a brand new Alienware M17x R4 with Windows 8 Pro x64 and Photoshop CS6 won't recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M GPU?
I've already updated Windows 8, Photoshop and the Nvidia graphics driver.
Any ideas?  I spent so much on a nice graphics card but now it seems PS CS6 can't even use it.  It's using the Intel HD4000 instead:
    I also tried this:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4545768#4545768
And deleted the settings but that didn't help.
According to this, my graphics card should work, it's a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M, which is a 600 series GPU:  http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html#tested_cards
Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6
Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CS6. This document lists the video card by series. The minimum amount of RAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CS6 is 256 MB. Photoshop 13.1 cannot display 3D features if you have less than 512 MB VRAM on your video card.
Important: This document is updated as newly released cards are tested. However, Adobe cannot test all cards in a timely manner. If a video card is not listed here, but was released after May 2012, you can assume that the card will work with Photoshop CS6.
Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model. (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)
    nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 series
I've run out of ideas.  Any suggestions?

    Okay, I figured it out...duh.
    My bad...or rather, Nvidia's bad!
In their app profiler, they set Photoshop to use the "default" settings, which defaults to the integrated graphics.  By changing the profile to make it use the discreet graphics, it worked!
This also fixed my issue of the background flashing / flickering.
    I know that's a known bug with Windows 8 + AMD (http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/image-background-transparent-or-flickers.html)
However, Adobe should look into this same bug occuring with the Intel HD4000 integrated GPU, because this happened with my laptop.
Maybe that bug doesn't occur on systems that only have an integrated GPU, but on systems with Optimus, it's definitely a reproducible issue.
When I switch back to integrated, the issue pops up again.
It's nice that Nvidia provides an option for us to either use the integrated or discreet graphics, however, Adobe needs to follow through and make sure that Photoshop doesn't wig out when we're using the integrated GPU.  Sometimes, your customers need to do work on battery power, so the integrated flickering /flashing /transparent background bug definitely needs to be fixed.
Personally, I can get 6hrs out of this laptop running the integrated GPU, but when I use the discreet, that cuts it down to only 2hrs.
