Considering the 4 hour CLD/CLA exam achievement and fulltime job.

Considering that during the CLD exam a programmer programs a small/medium application in 4 hours.
And a CLA architects a large application in the same time.
I understand that the pressure at one of these exams is about 250%.
During your job you would take more time to develop the same application,
because you cannot be at 250% all the time and you want to minimize errors.
I also know that a lot of time is used to get the specifications, talk to the client and make
a document that would be the equivalent to the exam paper.
What does a LabVIEW programmer do in a 40 hour work week, considering the exam is only 4?
I'm a CLD. Looking to get my CLA, but I have no colleagues who use LabVIEW and no peer-review.
I need information.

I have to disagree there. Most of the CLAs I met are coding a large majority of their time. I'm a full-time LabVIEW programmer. I also have to manage some programs, but coding is the large majority of my time.

How to connect Solenoid Manifold using DeviceNet

Hello,
I am about to buy a solenoid valve manifold that has an internal controller (I can send the manual of this module if needed) that will be interfaced through DeviceNet. A couple of question:
1. Will the PCI 8532 do the job to control this manifold.
2. Since I am completely new to this field, can you please refer me to any reading/relevant LabView/NI material that will make it happen.

The devicenet help is online, you also can download the driver for free and look through the example and help.
Also, we support the different modes of implicit communication. From the help:
Poll—Master/slave I/O connection in which the master sends a poll command to a slave, and then receives a poll response from that slave.
Strobe—Master/slave I/O connection in which the master sends a single strobe command to all strobed slaves, and then receives a strobe response from each strobed slave.
COS—Master/slave I/O connection in which the master or slave writes data when the data is different. When the data does not change, the master or slave writes the data at a fixed interval.
Cyclic—Master/slave I/O connection in which the master or slave writes data at a fixed interval.

Jordan, I appreciate what you tried to do with the Solutions for Review thread but... The latest exchanges (and a few others) on this thread I feel demonstrate why the "Mega-Thread" has already outlived its usefulness. There a a lot of good tidbits and side discussions buried in this thread that would be much more searchable and cohesive if the posters started their own threads.
Perhaps some new board suggestions for effectivness could be floated in place of the "Sample Exam Solutions for Review"?
Tips on CLD Solutions for review:
Start a new thread - indicate there will be a CLD example for review in the subject line.
For follow-up discussions on critique points start a new thread with a link to the example and a subject about the point under discussion.
This should allow the frequent fliers on this board the chance to develop a useful body of theads where specific points related to Cert specific preparation and concepts can be gathered and easily cross linked by the heavy hitters (And who knows, easilly searched by the certification candidates)
As the board grows I would hate to lose some "gems" in the noise. If we get together now, to think about what this boards goals are we can maximize our return on investment in supporting certification.
All comments welcome. Jordan, please consider floating this discussion for maximum visibility.

I think that's a great idea - centralise the submissions and decentralise the critiques.
Another idea to improve the Certification Board might be to introduce subforums for each of the various types of certification (CLAD, CLD, CLA, etc.).

NI-PCI Profibus card and Comsoft

I'm using the NI-PCI Profibus card with COMSOFT Configurator II tool and GSD file for my level device (radar).
This NI-PCI Profibus card is configured master and my level device in slave.
I also use the Comsoft Labview "DFP2_DP-MasterExample.vi".
I communicate easily with my level device. I get information as the level and distance (cyclic communication, Block module=Analog input).
How can I do to get the other informations from my level device, the serial number of device, the software revision (acyclic communication) and programmatically change the profibus address ?
Normally, the software revision is in Physical block, index 8 and the serial number is in Physical block, index 12. But these data are not in GSD files.

Hi ggr,
From the cRIO side it sounds like you need a DPV1 connection. That should be possible and is explained on page 22 of the attached manual, which should also be in the start menu. Is that what you are looking for?
As to what command you need to send, if you have the technical manual for the device I think we can figure it out from that. Do you have a manual?
