I was wanting to check for ink coverage, but the help page says go to output preview dialog. adobe help pages are a challenge because they tell you to go to places and don't tell you where they are.

How do I set the Simulation Profile to CMYK by default in the Output Preview Window

I've just upgraded to Adobe PDF X Pro from Acrobat 6 Pro. In Acrobat 6 I could just go to Advanced> Separation Preview and it would let me check off colours in CMYK, this was useful for me to check that Blacks were full black and not registration. I work in Newspaper media and always check if Ads are using the correct colours in the Ads they supply us.
Now here's my problem, every time I open up a new pdf Ad from clients and go the output preview it always shows me the colours in Adobe RGB by default. This is very annoying especially when I have to check a ton of Ads by clicking and scrolling down to say 'Photoshop 5 Default CMYK' just so I can check the Black. Is there any way to have it like it was in Acrobat 6? And just have it always show me the output preview in CMYK by default?
Edit: Typos.

Ok, after fiddling around I've figured it out. Edit> Preferences> Colour Management> Under Working Spaces Change CMYK: PhotoShop 5 Default CMYK. Now all pdfs show up as CMYK when I click on output preview.

How accurate is the output preview?

The output preview screen sometimes jumps back to a frame from the last shot before moving forward. I'm wondering if this is normal because it's just a low quality video preview, or if my movie will be encoded with those double-take hitches. I have a very tight deadline and can't afford to waste potentially 10+ hours encoding a bad video file. Please help!

Displaying JobTicket colorant data in Output Preview dialog.

Hi,
my task is to create plug-in which extends functionality of Output Preview dialog. It should display actual state of all Separations and Inks specified in PDF JobTicket.
I supposed to use AVPageViewSetVisibleInks/AVPageViewGetVisibleInk but they do something different that I need.
Are there any ways to set/change Separations and Inks in Output Preview dialog via Adobe SDK?

You can't update or extend existing dialogs. You'd have to provide a
complete new function.

Output Preview dialog box overview

One reason for not including profiles is that you don't want the profile-to-profile conversion that takes place, which will typically change black to rich black and other things. For some applications colour fidelity is less important than colorant fidelity. But of course, mostly its people who don't have a clue about colour.
Or, just an incompatible view of the workflow. Some people are using rather old fashioned colour workflows where output intents are ignored. If you have one of these workflows, then a good colour managed file following best practice appears to have only device dependent colours.
HOWEVER, I've never seen "Unknown output condition" in the Simulation profile selection. This is supposed to be a profile of your choice - but perhaps this file is a PDF/X file with an unrecognised output condition. Anyway, I certainly don't see it as a suggestion that the file doesn't have profiles. Well worth looking further into these files. Have you preflighted them? Are they PDF/X and if so what sort of PDF/X?

How to change the default setting for Output Preview

Good afternoon! I use the Output Preview feature under Advanced > Print Production quite a bit, to preview the rendering in one specific simulation profile (for me, its Web Coated SWOP 2006 Grade 3 Paper).
Is there any way to set the default to be a specific profile, instead of the one that keeps coming up (Output Intent: CGATS TR 001)?
It's very time consuming to have to repeatedly select my profile everytime I open a PDF and gauge the file in Output Preview.
Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

All you need to do is set the default CMYK (under Preferences > Color Management) to the profile you use the most. It will then default to that profile in Output Preview, unless it has an Output Intent specified.

Smartform to PDF, how to suppres Print/Preview dialog

Facing some issues in downloading PDF converted from Smartform.
In the program I am trying directly download a smartform converted into PDF format and save it in local system.
When ever I am trying to execute the program it shows up the Print/Preview dialog before showing the Save As dialog.
I have passed control_parameters-getotf = 'X' to the smartform runtime FM, which ideally should have suppressed the Print/Preview dialog and return the otfdata.

Acrobat 9 Standard missing Output Preview in Advanced...

Hi,
I find it weird that I can't find the Output Preview option on acrobat. I go to Avanced>Print Production>Acrobat Distiller???
Don't have a clue what Acrobat Distiller is, so I try going into Tools. Nothing. Then I try bringing up the Help and even that doesn't want to come up.
Does Acrobat 9 even have an Output Preview? I need to use it for checking CMYK pantones and such. After Google searching I'm desperate

Acrobat v.9.4.5
I go to the 'Print Production' menu and the only thing on the menu is 'Acrobat Distiller'
Where is Output Preview and all the other options? Where have they gone?
This is driving me nuts - can anyone please help or suggest a reason why? The only other Adobe application installed in Acrobat Reader X. Machine is running XP Pro. Everything is fully updated.

Acrobat X Pro Output Preview

I just upgraded to Acrobat X Pro and I'm running it on Max OS X 10.5.8. When I click on the check boxes of the color separations in the "output preview" it doesn't do anything. Instead I have to hold down the mouse button for a extened period of time, let go and then it will work. I do prepress work and I use the color separations in "output preview" to make sure blacks are truly going to be black. I go through a number of pages in a day and having to hold down the mouse button, instead of just clicking the checkbox can be time consuming. I have never had this issue with Acrobat 9 or any previous versions. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
I found a thread similar to my issue, but the suggestion was to increase the double click speed in the preferences, this did not help.

I also have to make sure gray images are real gray not cmyk gray. Is there a preflight for that?

In the PReflight tool there is a checkup that can automaticaly control black texts, this is less time consuming than doing it manually…;-)

Output Preview not working in Acrobat Pro 8

Hi,
I'm trying to check a PDF document for CMYK and all that before it goes off to the printers and Acrobat Professional 8's Output Preview has stopped working for me - the separations list has vanished. Basically, when I open the Output Preview toolbar, I get options for Simulation Profile, Simulate Black Ink/Paper Color, the "Show" menu, a button for Ink Manager (which isn't working either) and then the Preview: Separations/Color Warnings box. There's absolutely no option for showing and hiding different colour channels, though it's worked completely fine in the past. Help?
And apologies if this is a stupid question.

I think I'd uninstall Acrobat (there should be an Uninstaller in your Acrobat folder inside the Applications folder). Then reinstall the application.

Output Preview Changes Colors

In our softproofing setup, we have our press profile set up as the default CMYK profile in Acrobat 9. However, when we open the Output Preview window with the same profile set under Simulation Profile, the appearance of the color changes (some colors more so than others). I'm probably missing something simple, but I would think that the appearance should stay the same unless you change the Simulation Profile to a different profile.
I look forward to reading about what a doofus I am...

Smartforms - problems with output preview when vedor has different languag

The output preview does not work when vendor has different communication language then english?
Exact description of the problem described by the functional people:
"For the Latin America countries that use the SMARTFORM today, we have noticed that if the vendor has communication language English, the PO is displayed fine in the Output preview in iShop. However, if the vendor has communication language e.g. ES maintained in the vendor the output preview fails. We would like to have it so that even if the the vendor has a different communication language than EN maintained on the vendor the PO should be able to be displayed in the output preview of the SRM system."
So has enyone encountered this problem before? All help is appriciated!

Selecting Multiple Objects with Output Preview Causing Problems

I'm trying to edit a PDF and need to select multiple objects. Without Output Preview open, I can easily select all the items I need using the shift key. With Output Preview open, whenever I try to select the second object, Output Preview creates a sticky note, instead of selecting the second object.
I am also using the PitStop Pro plug-in.
Any idea how to correct this problem? Thanks!

Unfortunately it seems that the new sticky note feature with the output preview in Acrobat XI uses the same keyboard shortcut as multiple selection tool in Pitstop (shift).
Closing the output preview is the easiest way to get around this issue.
We could consider changing the key for multiple selection in PitStop, but 'shift' is pretty much a default, so what could we change it too?
If anyone has any thoughts could they email me, I am the product manager responsible for Pitstop at Enfocus and my email is '[email protected]'
