Eroracle patchset( 9.2.0.6.0) to Oracle (9.2.0.1.0)  on Windows Xp (32 bit)

Hi All,
I am trying to apply oracle patchset( 9.2.0.6.0) to Oracle (9.2.0.1.0) on Windows Xp (32 bit) system. While trying to apply this patch I got a message to shutdown OS services like RPC (Remote Procedure Call), COM3+ System Event which should not happen ideally. As per my experience we can not close down the RPC service, Since this is a critical system service. Have any faced similar problem in the past? If yes, then please let me know.
Thank You.

Hi,
There are two concerns about your upgrade.
Direct upgrade to 11.2.0 is not support from version 9.2.0.6, at least you should be on version 9.2.0.8.
11.2.0.3 is not supported on solris8, at least you should be on OS version - Solaris 10.

  • Looking For Patchsets for Oracle 11.2 g for Windows 2003 64 bit

    hi,
    I suppose I should not be running Oracle on Windows :) i have heard that more than once.
    I'm browsing My Oracle Support (support.oracle.com) searching for the correct patchsets for Oracle 11.2 g database Enterprise on Windows Server 2003 64 bit.
    All I seem to find is for 11.1
    I'm browsing under the 'Patches and Updates' tab in My Oracle Support. Can anyone point me to the downloads for Windows 64 bit and 11.2 please?
    Thank you.
    John

    Do you by chance mean the 11.2.0.1 release? I don't believe any patchsets for 11.2 have been released yet?

    It´s advised to have the latest patchset but it´s not required if you have no problems.

  • Downloading and installing Oracle (with sql plus) on Windows 7 Professional

    Hi,
    I got a new laptop which has Windows 7 Professional (64 bit). I intend to download Oracle 10g and would like to install bothe the database and the sql plus in this system.
    I would appreciate if somebody could provide me a link to the appropriate database (with sql plus installation capability). Also if available the installation guide.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    Windows 7 Professional (64 bit). I intend to download Oracle 10g and would like to install bothe the database and the sql plusOracle *10g* is not certified on Windows *7*, except with the latest patchset *10.2.0.5*, and its Premium Support ended on the *31st of July 2010*.
    You should download Oracle *11.2* which is certified on Windows *7 - 64 bit*.
    You'll find the Documentation and Download tabs on the link below:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/overview/index.html
    About SQLPlus, it's delivered with Oracle Server and, in *11g*, you can still use it from a DOS box. If you intend to have a Graphical Tool, you should use Oracle SQL Developer instead:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/overview/index.html
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,

  • Error while applying patchset 11.1.0.7 to 11.1.0.6

    Hi, I am a new DBA and would appreciate any help on this.
    I am in the process of upgrading my database from 10.2.0.4 to 11.1.0.7. I installed 11.1.0.6 and was applying the 11.1.0.7 patch. I installed the 11g patchset successfully and was working on 'Upgrading Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.6 to Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.7' - Section 9.2 of the readme of the 11.1.0.7 patchset. After starting the dbua and selecting the 11g home that needed to be upgraded, the dbua gave the error -
    The upgrade Assistant failed in bringing up the database proddb1. Oracle Home /opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev obtained from file /etc/oratab was used to connect to the database. Either the database is not running from Oracle Home /opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev or the pfile /oravol00/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev/dbs/init.ora used is incorrect. Correct the error and run the Upgrade Assistant again.
    Here are some more details about my system - I have a 10g dev instance and a 10g production instance also running on the same box. The 11g instance location is /oravol00/opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev and has a soft link to /opt/oracle/product/11.1.0/dev.
    I read another thread on the OTN where another person had the same problem and was asked to start the database in the upgrade mode from sqlplus and then try the dbua again. I tried that - started the databse in startup upgrade mode and it gave me this error -
    SQL> startup upgrade;
    ORACLE instance started.

    Can someone please give me some clue on what I did wrong here and how to correct it? Any help is appreciated.

    I checked my alert log and see errors from the day I installed the 11g instance. When DBUA said the installation is complete, I thought everything went fine. But now I see alert log had errors since then. I created the database on March 12th and tried to install the 11.1.0.7 patch on March 14th by around 3pm. Here is more clarification on the upgrade. I am trying to upgrade my dev environment. I plan to upgrade using export/import. For this I created the 11g instance and am applying the 11.1.07 patch. Next, I need to apply the PSU patch and then do the upgrade.
    I am pasting the alert log errors here. Please advice on what I need to do.

    Thank you Dan!
    I have a question. I have been trying to download the generic installers (since I want to install on a 64 bit Linux). The thing is I cannot find the RCU generic (there is one for Win and another one for Linux). Any idea where can this be downloaded?
    On a different topic, here I am sharing the BPM 11.1.1.4 Installer guide that has been released recently:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/overview/quickstartguidesoasuite11gr1ps3-313245.pdf
    That link is available from this page (just in case they change it):

  • When is the Oracle 10.1.0.4 patchset available?

    Hi,
    Can someone tell me when the 10.1.0.4 patchset will be available please?
    Cheers,
    Warren

    The first release, for Linux and Windows, was supposed to be on March 11, but it's still not out and they've clammed up about a new release date.
    I can understand a schedule-slip, but they should have some idea of a new release date, you'd think.
    This is the (obsolete) tentative schedule we got from Oracle support:
    Intel Linux : March 11' 2005
    MS WIndows NT : March 11 '2005
    MS Windows 64bit : March 21 '2005
    MS Windows Server 2003 : March 11 '2005
    MS Windows XP : March 11 '2005
    MS Windows XP 64 Bit : MArch 21 '2005
    Sun Spark Solaris 64 Bit : March 25 '2005
    Sun Solaris V2 Intel : April 11 '2005

  • 9.2.0.3 patchset on RH9

    Has anyone been able to apply the 9.2.0.3 patchset to a 9.2.0.1 Oracle database server on RH9? The 9.2.0.1 server was working fine until after I ran catpatch.sql. Then it started giving me a lot of the following error messages:
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-04045: errors during recompilation/revalidation of <some package name>
    ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called ORA-06512: at line 2
    This would happen whenever I access any system or user defined package.
    Also, anyone knows how I can check the value of an environment variable (LD_ASSUME_KERNEL) in the environment in which the Oracle database server is running? I know how to set the env variable in a shell and then use the shell to run a client app. But I want to make sure the server processes are also running in an environment with this variable set correctly.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Stefan,
    Exactly which Java component did the installation stop at, and if you go to the end of the install log (install log is in oraInventory/logs directory, it's named installActions<date>.log), what does it say?
    If you forgot to set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to "2.4.1", the installer will stop right at the beginning when it starts copying files. This is because although the installer is a Java app, it calls native shared libraries via JNI to perform OS operations like copying files or changing file permissions. Those shared libraries were compiled against an earlier version of glibc.
    The only places where relinking stopped for me were at oemagent and at a ctx agent. The ctx agent has a fix which is well known. The oemagent cannot be fixed without hacking glibc source code and recompiling I think. I haven't had time to try that yet.
    Cheers,
    Dave

    RegardsAs others have said, given the choice you should definitely apply all available patchets (esp cpu) before creating any databases. But let me point out one thing. If you use dbca to create your database, and you chose one of the pre-defined templates, dbca will actually create the database from a pre-created standard backup. That backup will be of a database from the base level installation, which would then require picking up the patch instructions from the point of beginning to update the database dictionary. If you tell dbca to create a 'custom' database, it will create a db from scratch, using the CREATE DATABASE command, so will be created with all appilied patches available. As a learning exercise, I'd recommend that before you create any databases with this new installation, you walk through dbca twice, once selecting a pre-defined db, and once selecting for 'custom'. On both times, when you get to the end, do not select to create the database, but do select to create the scripts. Then get a cup of coffee, sit down and study both sets of scripts. After that, you'll know what course of action to take.

    PATCHSET 적용 후 실행파일의 배너가 'STANDARD'에서 'ENTERPRISE'로 변경됨
    ======================================================
    Problem Description
    8i나 9i "Standard Edition"에 Patchset을 적용 하면, sqlplus 같은 실행파일의
    배너가 "Enterprise Edition"으로 보여지면서 시작이 된다.
    Change(s)
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Oracle Server가 Standard Edition에서 Enterprise Edition으로 변경이 된다.
    Cause
    ~~~~~~~
    Patchset이 라이브러리 libvsn8.a (8i) 나 libvsn9.a (9i) 파일을 대체하고
    이것이 v$version의 배너를 변경한다.
    Solution Description:
    8.1.7의 경우 다음의 작업을 실행한다:
    1) 817 설치 CD에서 stdlib.0.0.jar 파일을 찾는다.
    "stage/Components/oracle.rsf.rdbms_rsf/8.1.7.0.0/1/DataFiles/stdlib.0.0.jar"
    9.0.1의 경우
    "stage/Components/oracle.rsf.rdbms_rsf/9.0.1.0.0/1/DataFiles/stdlib.0.0.jar"
    2) 이 파일을 디스크로 복사한 후 다음의 명령으로 libvsn_std8.a 파일을 추출한다.
         $ jar -xvf stdlib.0.0.jar
    3) libvsn_std8.a (8i) 나 libvsn_std9.a (9i) 파일을 $ORACLE_HOME/lib 으로
    복사하고 libvsn8.a (8i) 나 libvsn9.a (9i)로 이름을 변경한다.
    $ cp ./libvsn_std8.a $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libvsn8.a
    9.0.1의 경우
    $ cp ./libvsn_std9.a $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libvsn9.a
    4) Oracle 실행파일들을 Relink 하고 배너를 확인한다.
