Err 3253 Network Connection was reset - Detailed description

I have iTunes 12.1.0.71. I am using Windows 7 on a PC. For the past 3 days I have tried re-downloading several items from iTunes Store. Apps, music, etc. While doing so, I am able to get a few but then all of the sudden I get the error 3253 - Your network connection was reset. As soon as I get the error, I can no longer get iTunes to download anything else for the rest of the night.  Now... here comes the good part. As soon as midnight rolls around--poof! Everything starts working again.
First I thought it was my ISP but I talked with them for over an hour and they swear they do not block iTunes traffic for any reason. By the way my internet never goes down. I can browse the web, use Netflix, etc. all while iTunes doesn't download.
During my investigation, I found several reports of this error. Every work around attempt fails. I have tried the OpenDNS. It doesn't fix it. I've tried the Google DNS. I've tried turning off simultaneous downloads. NOTHING WORKS.
Now here is the BEST part. I run a diagnostics check in iTunes for Network Connectivity. It fails when I run it because it says iTunes is not enabled in my firewall.
But guess what. IT IS enabled.
Now, check this... As I said before, this has happened for 3 days straight. It stops working while I'm downloading things and then at midnight--poof, it starts working again. Well when it starts working... I still fail these tests! What good are the diagnostics if they don't even tell you correct information?
I need this fixed. I am an avid iTunes user. I love the product. But this is a huge let down! Apparently I'm not the only person who's had this either. Looks like this same error has been happening since 06 for various reason.  I welcome options to try but don't tell me the same ones I have listed. Also, please don't say it's my ISP or that I have some sort of data cap or bandwidth limit or iTunes is being blocked by my ISP. I've checked and verified. None of these are true. It has to be on something else.  Oh yeah... and my wife uses a Mac. The problem effects her too at the same time as me. Except she gets the 3259 error which is a network time out.

Hello bryanfromdelphos,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are receiving error 3253 while downloading from iTunes and have already tried a wide range of good troubleshooting steps. In this situation, if you have not done so already, I would suggest following the troubleshooting steps outlined in the attached article.
iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting - Apple Support
"Error 3000" through "3999"
Alerts with codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try removing the proxy settings, or using a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Have a great day,
Joe

  • Error 3253 Network Connection was reset

This is my first experience with iTunes and it may be my last! I am trying to download from iTunes. Several times the download has progressed for 9 minutes, but then when I reach 7.8 of 7.9MB completed the download stops and it gives me "error 3253." I tried contacting support and have tried everything they suggested; clear temp files, MSCONFIG services, open ports in Trend Micro, turn off Windows Firewall, etc. I also did the Run Diagnostics in iTunes and received "all tests passed." It would seem to me that if it will stayed connected for 9 minutes then it is not a connection setting problem. Any ideas?

What exact title is it? Sometimes if you post that, others will chime in and say they have a problem with that exact same thing, which could point to bad content on an Apple server.

    What is the problem?

    You can try this :
    - hold down the reset button for about 30 seconds, then unplug the device, while you are still holding down the reset button.
    - leave unplugged for about 5 seconds, while you are still holding down the reset button.
    - plug the unit back in, while you are still holding down the reset button.
    - after about 5 seconds, let go off the reset button.
    - go to the webpage of the router.
    - you should see the special mode.

    I tried EVERYTHING.
Eventually I installed a new modem/router and hey presto - problem solved. I think that the modem was on its way out as the new modem has increased access and download speeds significantly.

I was unable to download episodes from a season I purchased. It kept giving me the same "connection has been reset" error message. But I went and clicked on support under quick links in iTunes and it allowed me to start downloading from that screen. I didn't have to go into anything, it just automatically popped up that I had items to download and asked if I wanted to download them. I clicked on it, it prompted me for my password, and then started downloading them instantly.

  • Hi, I am trying to update an iPhone 4 from iOS 4.3.3 to iOS 7.0.4, and every time I try to update it comes up with an error message saying that there was a problem because the network connection was reset. Is there any way I can get past this and update?

    The full message said:
There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "Judy's iPhone 4". The network connection was reset.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later.
I am trying to update the iPhone for my grandmother, Judy, as I am leaving for Paris on Wednesday night and we want to have Facetime installed on her iPhone before then, so we can stay in contact with each other. It is the simplest way for this to happen but the program simply will not allow me to update her iPhone.
Is there any way to get past this error and update her iPhone? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Dear Jody..jone5
Good for you that can't update your iphone because I did it and my iphone dosen't work for example I can't download any app like Wecaht or Twitter..

  • ITunes Store Error Message: "network connection was reset"

I've been having trouble connecting to the iTunes Store since Dec. 25, 2006. The last time I was able to connect to the site was Jan. 2, 2007!
The error message that I have been receiving is: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was reset."
Here are the troubleshooting issues that I have already performed.
    1) Ensured that my internet connection was active.
    2) Checked to make sure Windows XP Service Pack Updates were compatible. No problems with the firewall detected.
    3) Have the latest version (7.02.16) of iTunes.
    4) iPod software is up to date.
    5) Ran iTunes diagnostics which states:
    Windows Firewall is on.
iTunes is enabled in Windows Firewall.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
    The network connection was reset.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
    The network connection was reset.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
Does anyone have this problem? Can anyone recommend a solution that worked for them?
    Sony   Windows XP

PS: I also went into Internet Explorer...
Selected Tools, selected Internet options, then selected Advanced Tab
Then I looked for the security section and made sure that SSL 2.0 was selected.
I was still unable to access iTunes Store.

  • Cannot connect to the iTunes store. The network connection was reset.

My iTunes has been messed up since August 17th. I am getting the error message; "Cannot connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again." I am having no issues connecting to the internet or even receiving my podcasts. It just won't download my TV shows or let me shop. I have contacted Hewlett Pack. about this and iTunes/apple. No one seems to have an answer for me. I have disabled my firewalls, norton, done msconfig, allowed iTunes, everything. I am very frustrated and so are others that seem to be having this same problem. We need a genius!! Please help!

I suspect a location-driven problem here. I live in SHanghai, China - as does the poster above! I have this problem on three different computers using three different ISPs.
Anybody got a suggestion? Tried firewalls, turning off virus production, reinstalling iTunes, putting phobos.apple.com and such in the permitted list, all sorts of stuff, to no avail. And Apple help support just bounces me around - I've interacted via email with three people, finally graduated to a real person, and they sent me back to email when the usual "reboot your machine and reinstall iTunes, then turn off virus protection" didn't work.

there was a change of dns server for my iTunes store and not go over the followingmessage: network connection was reset store does not connect, what can I do to fix it my pc is an xp professional.

Do you have Norton AntiVirus? It could be that Norton is blocking iTunes from working because it considers iTunes a virus. If you think this is the problem, only uninstall Norton if you have your account information or if you are willing to buy a different AntiVirus program.

The internet connection is not propaly setup on your iTunes app, DO NOT change the settings unless you know what your doing. Also, is this a one time or does it happen permentally, because if it happens permentally then you will need to re-install iTunes
