Erratic link updating CS4

Hello,
I'm going through an IDCS4 document making graphic corrections to pictures in Photoshop (CS2). I use the "edit original" context menu option.
50% of the time, when I save the graphic in Photoshop and return to InDesign, InDesign registers the change and updates the link automatically, which is lovely.
But the other 50%, InDesign doesn't seem to 'click,' and I've got to update the link in InDesign manually.
This is erratic. Does anybody know what makes InDesign automatically update the link, and why it sometimes doesn't?

I think I see this if I go back and edit a second time without closing the link file, but I'm not certain.

We have a problem with the Automatic link update in InDesign CS5.5 vers. 7.6
We want to see which images have been updated / modified (ie, marked with the yellow triangle in the links panel).

This is not normal behavior. I wonder what is different for you.
If you deselect "Check Links Before Opening Document," you should not be prompted to "Do not Update Links." This suggest you have corrupt preferences. So try:

Phone link updater is out of date

does anyone know where i can get a phone link updater, that is more recent than 2005 and will let me connect my zire 72 to my samsung e900?
and on a side note, has anyone else noticed that when you register on palms very own forums and it asks you which device you have, it doesn't have many of it's devices, it had no zire's at all.

updating cs4 to have camera raw 5.7 "installation encounters problem, please close adobe bridge", but adobe bridge is not open what should I do?

I tried the task manager and then end task but I have a warning window that opens up saying that doing this will destabilize the system.
By the way to avoid having to upgrade to camera raw 5.7, I tried buying the cs6 upgrade but my order was blocked due to a system error so I have to wait several hours, cancel the order and try again. What is the matter with Adobe? They certainly do not make it easy to work with them.

OSPF link update-Basic Query

I am new to OSPF. I have 2 basic querys on OSPF link update.
1. How does one router communicates with every router in the OSPF area. Is it that each router communicates only with its directly connected neighbours? example.
ROUTERA-------ROUTERB-----ROUTERC-----ROUTERD----ROUTERE
Lets say link on RouterB connected to ROUTERA goes down. How does "ROUTERE" get to know about this? Is the communication is from RouterB to ROUTERC then to ROUTERD and then to ROUTERE?
2. How does router handle(forward) multicast packets?

Hello Avil,
the way OSPF communicates depends on how your network is set up. In your case, it looks like all routers are connected back-to-back with point-to-point links. OSPF uses the concept of adjacencies: an OSPF router has an adjacency with a connected router, which means that they have the exact same view of the entire network. If you do a 'show ip ospf neighbor' on your RouterA and your RouterE, it tells you the adjacencies these routers have with other connected routers. Now let's say the link between RouterA and RouterB goes down. RouterC notifies RouterD, and RouterD notifies RouterE immediately by exchanging link-state packets.
Keep in mind that on a multiaccess segment (where multiple OSPF routers are directly connected on the same segment), the concept of DR (Designated Router) and BDR (Backup Designated Router) comes into play: on a multiaccess segment, a DR and a BDR are elected, and all other routers have full adjacencies only with the DR and the BDR.
Regarding the multicast traffic: it is handled just as unicast traffic (unless you specifically block it).

Hello, unfortunately there are no Palm OS Bluetooth drivers for newer cell phones. You could try all of the drivers that are built into the TX to see if you get lucky, but I am not optimistic. BTW, the TX already came loaded with the latest available drivers...the Phone Link Update gave users the ability to update Palm OS devices which were older than the TX.
I'm not familiar with the Droid Razr, but the specs on this site indicate is has Mobile Hot Spot capabilities, which would allow you to connect the TX to the phone via Wi-Fi instead of Bluetooth. I connect my TX (and computer) wtih my phone's Hot Spot abilities all the time. My service is with AT&T and this ability requires my Hot Spot data service.

InDesign CC crashing on link update for icml files edited in InCopy CC Windows

Running InDesign CC (9.1) on OSX 10.9.
Colleague running InCopy CC (9.1) on Windows 7 SP1.
Files stored on a Windows server.
OSX accessing files via AFP and Windows accessing files via CIFS.
If I unlink the icml files and re-import them everything is fine. As soon as the windows user edits them though, InDesign crashes on link update.

We're having this problem too. I read somewhere that an 8.x update of InDesign was supposed to fix it, but we're using 9.2 - so not fixed.

Which Adobe CS4 software exactly do you own? Is it a Creative Suite or standalone software such as Photoshop
What exactly are you trying to update? Photoshop or something else?

Unable to update CS4?????

Just reinstalled CS4 because I just did a clean install from 10.6 from 10.5.I thought I would have no problems but upon trying to update CS4 it told me it had no updates avail????? Is there an issue with CS4 and 10.6? The programs themselves run fine just can't update it. Running a mac pro 2x3ghz quad with 4 GB ram.

just wish the installer would use 80% of my computer's processing power and writing power. The uninstall + install literally takes 2-4 hours, such a lengthy process and I can't even use the internet browser during this time.. it says I must close it before I begin.

EDIT:
I find it completely odd that the installer asks me to close my web browser firefox. It doesn't even have any open handles to any Adobe
files. I wonder why this is. It wouldn't in the first place because it doesn't even have any plugins or extensions from adobe, (besides flash player but that's seperate from CS4.)

My Desktop HPE120f 64bit has both CS4 and CS5 installed. Lightroom links to CS4. How can I have Lightroom link to CS5 64bit? Do I need to uninstall CS4?

Try this:
Open Registry Editor.
Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Photoshop.exe key
Replace CS4 with CS5 in every item.

Palm Tungsten E2-phone link updater

Greetings, can anyone help me find a phone link updater to sync my bluetooyh from my Moto RazrModel L7C?
I am not even sure if I can transfer my contacts from my phone to my Palm?

Dreamweaver CS4 CSS file links updating problem

Hi apologies if this question has already been asked, the
search tool does not seem to be working.
I have recently installed DW CS4. When you open a page all
the related files open too so the CSS linked file also opens
however, if i try to update the CSS file from here when i come to
save, i get a message box asking if i want to 'update links'? If i
say yes it updates all the links in my CSS file from ../images to
the full path of the images and this then creates problems with the
site. If i say no, it then tells me that my CSS file contains an
invalid path and then prompts me to 'update links?' again.
If i open the CSS file separately in DW i dont have any
problems.
This is really annoying me, if anyone can help i would be
grateful!

Thanks for your replies. I updated my Nvidia video card driver and I deleted the Cache file per the instructions in the link above. Unfortunately I'm still getting the Lockup.
It locks when I use the CSS panel for a period of time. What's odd is that the CSS panel remains active and I can edit and make changes to the CSS rules. The rest of the interface locks up. The code/design window the menu bar etc. I have to close down DW with the task manger. when I do that I get asked if I want to save the changes to the open files and the changes get saved. But the entire user interface except for the css panel is frozen. Weird.
The link above suggest deleting the entire personal configuration folder and the extension manager folder. this seems pretty sever and then it seems I would have to re-install the extensions that I have and etc. Perhaps that's what I have to do? This regular lockup is a pain. Like I said the rest of my system and other apps (fireworks, Photoshop, etc) are all rock solid. The problem is strictly with DW.

That helped. Now I am stuck on the next thing. It updates the broken link, but gives me an error when link is good. So I am trying to figure out an IF statement, so it only updates broken links. Here what I've tried and none of it works:

Documents always need link update

We are running a panther 10.3.9 Mac OS server on the a local network.
All the client computers are running 10.5 Leopard and indesign CS4
Whenever anyone opens an Indesign file someone else has worked on, we have to update the image links.
If I create or open a file and update the links, and then close the document, and then reopen it... then it's fine and doesn't ask for updates.
But if anyone else on the network opens it, they always have to update, albeit automatically.
The problem with this is that we have to create electronic tearsheets (pdfs) of each indesign document, and I want to use acrobats automatic pdf "Batch Create Multiple Files" to make pdf's of these indesign documents, so that I can automatically add a specific name, and specific pdf settings (small size) all at once automically.
Because the links aren't updated when this is done, the pdf's have very bitmapped images because they are being created by a preview of the missing file, because the link isn't updated.
Does anyone else have this "update missing links" problem on a pather server? Or on a Tiger server or Leopard server?

I'm frankly not sure exactly what causes the links to be seen as in need of update. The clock may very well not be involved, but I suggested checking it just because it's a possibility, and very easy to check.
Similarly with the ownership and permissions. Since you are able to update them on the clients, it appears that you do at least have read permissions. But, IIRC, Panther had no support for Access Control Lists (ACLs), while every very version from Tiger on has had. If Adobe is using ACLs as part of it's link checking, it could easily be running afoul of a server which doesn't support them. I'm pretty sure that Adobe does not test with a Panther Server configuration as you have, so it would not be surprising if differences in the OS would result in problems like this.
It occurs to me that if you can't solve this problem one way or another, you could install a script which would be triggered by the "beforeExport" event that would attempt to update all links prior to doing an export...

Can't Update CS4 on New Laptop Running Windows 7 64bit

I just upgraded a 2 year old slow laptop running 32 bit Vista to a brand new Asus G73JW laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. It is a really fast laptop with 8G RAM, 1.5GB dedicated graphics card, full 1920 x 1080 HD res, solid state drive for operating drive etc. It is a beast of a laptop that boots up fully in about 10 seconds and it was built for HD gamers. Needless to say I am pretty excited to get to work on my favourite Adobe software, which is Premiere Pro and Photoshop mostly.
Everything on the laptop works great but... I installed my CS4 Production Premium without a problem, however, the Adobe Updater will not work. I tried it about 10 times now, rebooting, trying various programs to try the updates etc, to no avail. They are very important updates, as the software will not function properly in several programs without the updates. I can't find anything about this specific issue, has anyone had this problem with Windows 7 64 bit?
FYI everything worked fine with the Vista 32 bit, including updates.
I am pretty frustrated now and I just want to start using the software, and I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone may have.
I already have an e-mail in to Asus to find out if the latest NVidia GTX 460M graphics card driver can be updated on my system. There are a few other drivers I am looking into updating as well to see if that will help.
