Erratic pointer movement w/ Illustrator

I work a lot with Photoshop and Illustrator and have noticed that my "pointer" is errantic when trying to select and/or move vector points in Illustrator. The only way to eliminate this problem is to go into System's "Accessibility" icon and change mouse button to "without inertia". I have the same problem with my iMac. I like the scrolling feature to be checked ON, mainly for reading web pages and such. The below pic is how my current setup is, to avoid the pointer yips. Would really like to scroll though.

Illustrator's CPU load is very low.
Here is actually what is happening:
While selecting, then moving a vector point, the entire artboard screen moves slightly in the same direction that I'm moving the point. I am being careful not to slide any finger/s over the mouse while performing this action.
The inertia feature is nice to have on; I don't need to move pointer to bottom or side scrolls in order to quickly access closeup views of the artboard.
This situation happens on both my MacPro and iMac. My files are not large at all. I know its a matter of mouse settings, as my current resolution is to 'turn off' mouse inertia in Accessibility. The Mouse Settings have nothing but 'track' settings. I was hoping there is a fine tuning ability.
I don't recall this being an issue prior to CS5 upgrades

  • Anchor points move and entire shape gets distorted from changing stroke thickness

    I have a fairly simple drawing that I drew at a larger size so I could be precise with it, and now I want to reduce it down to the finished size, and thicken the stroke, but when I make the stroke thicker, my anchor points move and the entire drawing gets distorted.
    In 24 years of using Adobe Illustrator, I've never seen this happen. When I click on the "up" arrow on the Stroke palette a bunch of times to incrementally increase the stroke thickness, I can watch the anchor points "walk" around as my shape gets distorted.
    If I instead enter a numerical value for the stroke thickness, this doesn't happen.
    However, if I use the Scale tool to shrink the drawing down to 10% or 20% size or whatever, with Scale Strokes and Effects UNCHECKED, again, the anchor points move and the drawing is distorted.
    This is all on a brand new installation of Illustrator CS 6 for Mac (though I've been using CS 6 for about 2 years now, my hardrive crashed this past weekend and I had to reinstall everything).
    Did I miss a little checkbox somewhere that I've never seen before that's making this happen?
    Editing this post to add:
    Also, some of the objects in my drawing will not allow me to change the stroke to less than 1 point thickness. If I choose .5 or .25 pt from the pop-up menu, or even if I enter the numerical value, it jumps back to 1 point. Other objects in the drawing do not.
    These objects in question are "rounded rectangle" shapes that I've used the scissor tool on to cut and then used the "join" command to put them together with parts of other shapes that were "scissored' as well.
    All of the "Ellipse" and "Rounded Rectangle" shapes that I left intact do not exhibit this problem with stroke and distortion.

    You are being bitten by the Align-to-Pixel-Grid. Select everything and go to the Transform panel and turn off Align-to-Pixel-Grid at the bottom of the panel; then go to the panel flyout (small triangle, upper right) and turn off Align Objects to Pixel Grid.

  • Making window active when mouse pointer moves over it?

    As the subject line says, how do I configure Mac OS X such that a window automatically becomes the active one (also in the menu bar) when the mouse pointer moves over it? If possible, with a slight delay?

    A far as I know it doesn't work that way. You need to click on the window to make it active.

  • Delayed pointer movement when using Internet

    On my MacBook, there is a delay that the trackpad starts moving. I find myself slinging it around before it comes into play.
    Anybody experience this stickiness, this delay in trackpad pointer movement?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Does this only occur when you use the internet or all the time? How much RAM are you using? What browsers are using? Does it do it in all browsers?
    The more info you give up front the better chance someone can help.

  • AE CS5 - Shape Layer - Anchor point moves after position keyframe

    I am experiencing unintuitive (to me) behaviour with a brand new shape layer. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue. I have made a screen cap of the problem but can't figure out how to upload it to this forum.
    1. In an existing composition, I create a new Shape Layer
    2. By default the anchor point (center point) is in the dead center of the shape layer. Perfect.
    3. I turn on Position keyframing, and add a position keyframe at my current time
    4. Instantly the anchor point now jumps to the center of the composition, and so now when I scale my shape layer it doesn't scale properly
    If I try to use the Pan Behind tool, I get position keyframing. Besides, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS, since the anchor point was in the correct spot to start with, and it's only because of this keyframing "bug" that the anchor point jumps.
    What am I missing or doing wrong? How can I add a position keyframe to a BRAND NEW LAYER that has no other animation on it, and still keep the anchor point in the dead center of my shape?
    Thanks for your advice,
    Tom

    Thanks to Rick and Mylenium for your helpful answers. Rick, I'd prefer not to have to manually reposition, because I'm never going to be as mathematically precise as the software for positioning the Anchor Point dead center.
    Using the transform controls on the shape rather than the global container certainly did the trick! You guys are great. Thanks.
    [rant]
    In my defense as far as the constant exhortations to "RTFM", we all know that most veteran software users only go to the manual when there's a problem. You also know that Adobe's help system (particluarly in regards to search) has gotten worse over the years, not better. So when I run into a situation like this, I'm going to search through the help for what I believe the problem is: namely "anchor points", "transformations" and "keyframes", and maybe "shape layers". This is a fair amount of research, and it's exactly what I do as my first line of defense.
    The second line of defense that most tech savvy folk do, is a Google search; for example: "anchor point moves after position keyframe" or "After Effects shapes layer anchor point moves keyframe" etc. And you spend your time sifting through forums trying to find the relevant answers. I feel that THAT is my true due diligence, rather than reading the F'n Adobe manual that is so very very sparse.
    So after my due diligence, I turn to the experts communities, because there I know I will get educated, reliable help within a reasonable turnaround time. And because I myself contribute to these same forums in areas where I have higher than average expertise. The Adobe Forums have proven to be one of the great online resources.
    Finally, now that I have a great answer from two knowledgeable experts (thanks again!), I've also enriched the community, because of the way I have crafted my post title, hopefully the next poor ******* who has a similar problem and a similar methodology to finding resolution will stubmle upon my post because I've tried to overload the title with relevant keywords that will generate hits in google.
    Through my question, and your accurate answers, the global knowledgebase has improved.
    So forgive me for not memorizing the F'n Adobe online help. I go to the resources that are the most useful, expedient, and provide the greatest value as a whole.

    Peace,
    Tom

    either snap to grid or align to pixel grid yet again, i guess.

  • Voice Over : Mouse pointer moves VO cursor Question

    Hi!!
    I have low vision, and i want to use the voice over with my mouse and/or trackpad. Im able to see where the text is but i cant read it well. When I enable the Voice Over I select "Mouse pointer moves Voice Over cursor in the preferences. This works fine for me, vut i noticed that when i drag the pointer over the finders sidebar it select the folders without me clicking on them. Something similar happens in Safari when scrolling the web page. There is any way to avoid this?? The Voice Over with the keyboard is very nice but  sometimes I rather use the mouse.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Thank you Shootist007. I cannot do even Update now. I probably should have spent the same amount of money on a new IMac!
    No not really. If this is a brand new Macbook Pro take it back for a refund. Apple has a 14 day No Questions Asked return policy for Full refund.
    Take it back, get the Full Refund (DO NOT LET THEM TRY TO FIX IT. YOU BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER NOT ONE THAT HAS BEEN WORKED ON OR NEEDS TO BE FIXED) and then decide whether to buy another Macbook Pro or the iMac. Or you could return it, get the Full refund and buy some other brand computer.

  • My OWN  mouse pointer movie issue

    Hi ive made a mouse pointer movie in flash. When i rollover the butones that i have on my movie works.
    When i enter in the movie it start to drag and it work perfectly.
    The only problems that i have is that when the people that they take out the mouse off my stage of movie i want that
    mouse pointer to not stay there on the border  up down right and even left.
    When is out with the real pointer to desseaper complete ,because is dosent look very nice staying there nearly to the borders of my flash movie.
    i have a movie with 120width and 100height.
    so when its louding the movie work apper my mouse that i made,now i want to put some code in to dessepear compleatly when i get out of the movie with the pointer on the all borders!...

    Mine works similarly, but that exampole you link to appears to use location detection to start a tween that makes the object gradually disappear.  I say this because the distance from the edge where it stops and fades differs every time.  It most likely is set to occur at some distance less than the actual width and height of the stage since it does not happen at the edge, always somewhere before it.
    So you could use a conditional to test if you want to change the alpha...
    Mouse.hide();
    pointer_mc.startDrag(true);
    this.onMouseMove = function(){
          if(_xmouse < 5 || _ymouse < 5 || _xmouse > Stage.width-5 || _ymouse > Stage.height-5){
                pointer_mc._alpha = 0;
          } else {
                pointer_mc._alpha = 100;

  • Erratic mouse movement

    When using my USB IR mouse or a magic mouse the cursor suddenly jumps about the screen often to a "Hot corner" which turns the display off. I do not recall that this occurred before I loaded Bootcamp and Windows XP Pro.
    Any help out there?

    I've seen this happen for two reasons.
    1.) My imac is about to overheat and crash. The pointer seems to jump around the edges of the screen and on rare occasion reservse themselves. UP=DOWN LEFT=RIGHT..etc.
    2.) The mouse picked up a hair and the IR light is bouncing off of it and causing erratic movement. (More often the case)
    Hopefully 2, but be mindful of 1. I would be curious if you have iStat and notice any difference in operating temperature during these times.

  • Why when I switch between a centre-aligned stroke and fill do my anchor points move?

    Hi there, I've been using Illustrator for many years and never noticed this happen before when I fill a shape - can anyone explain why this is happening?
    I'm drawing a logo using a centre-aligned stroke, rounded rectangle and another stroked path merged together to make my logo outline....like this...
    ....and when I change my centre-aligned stroke from a stroke to a fill and back again (to make the shape solid black), the anchor points of my shape move.....after about 10 time so fswitching between fill and stroke, fill and stroke etc my paths look like this....
    Why is this happening??? It doesn't do this when I use a stroke aligned to the outside or inside of the path - just when the storoke is aligned to the centre of the path? CAnanyone explain why this happens? what it going on here?
    -thanks in advance!
    -Pete Moore

    No I don't mean 'outlining' a stroke - all I'm doing is changing a stroke'd box to a fill and back again using the 'Swap fill and stroke" button on the main pallet.
    When my (rounded rectangle) path has a stroke applied to it, and it has the stroke aligned to the centre of the path, the anchor points of a rounded rectangle move slightly every time I swap from a filled shape to a stroked shape.
    If I apply a stroke to a path (again -  a rounded rectangle)  that has the stroke aligned to the outside or inside of the path, then the anchor points do not move - however many times I swap between fill and stroke.
    I've been wondering why when I re-apply a stroke to a filled object (and that stroke is alinged to the centre of the path)  - I get slight movement with the anchor points (do it alot of times and it can really mess with rounded corners).
    Draw a rounded square, apply a stroke to it (a center aligned stroke), click the 'swap fill and stroke' button (shift + x)  a few times, watch the box move slightly every time you click.

  • 15" MBP erratic pointer when using trackpad

    Just in the last few mins. and seemingly without changing anything my pointer has gotten very erratic while using the trackpad. It will jump around when zeroing in on something to click and even takes a few taps to register. I can even hold my finger in one place on the pad and not move it but yet the pointer will dance around sometimes inches apart. Any idea what could cause this? I've restarted, hard restarted and reset the PRAM. Nothing has helped so far. Thanks.

    Nope, always been extremely well taken care of. Has an iSkin keyboard cover.

  • Mouse pointer moves but system freezes

    I had this problem for the past 2 months.
    What would happen, was that anything I tried to do by clicking mouse pointer would not work. Pointer would move, but that was it. If I hit ctrl/alt/del, then cancel, it would recover and work fine for a while.
    Tried various solutions, uninstalled untilities etc etc, with no luck.
    Finally realized what was different over past 2 months. I have been using Hotspot to share wifi connection. As soon as I turned that off, everything back to normal.
    Hope this helps someone.

    can't test it because I don't have xfce, but here is my xorg.conf for that intel card, keyboard+touchpad is handled by policykit.

  • JSFL reg point move does not save correctly

    I have come across an issue in flash pro while using commands written in jsfl.
    I have a jsfl command that moves registration points on a selected library instance. A snippit of the command that does the moving is:
    fl.getDocumentDOM().enterEditMode('inPlace');
    var ele = fl.getDocumentDOM().getTimeline().layers[0].frames[0].elements[0];
    ele.x = 0;
    ele.y = 0;
    ele.x = -ele.left;
    ele.y = -ele.top;
    ele.x += newRegX;
    ele.y += newRegY;
    fl.getDocumentDOM().exitEditMode();
    After running the command everything looks good. The reg point has been moved to where I want it to be.
    However, if I save and reload the fla the registration points show back up where they were before the move command.
    It seems like the jsfl move values are not being saved correctly. Is this something others have seen before? Is there a fix to this issue?
    Thanks.

    Yes I have also found the saving bug when messing with the transform point and jsfl.
    I was trying to move the registration point to the current transform point.
    First version of the code it all worked fine but after saving and opening again only the first frame had moved.
    Second version of the code I went through all the frames and selected then deselected all alements on each frame - this seemed to fixed the issue. - manually doing it did.
    However I then noticed I was still haveing some issues - this could be fixed by manually entering the symbol and moving the transform point - saving and opening then worked.
    I could not however do that step with code (well I could but it didnt fix the issue)
    Am Going to look for other thisng that might help - adding a new layer - or something that will force flash to realise that things have changed.
    But this is definately a flash bug - when everything looks and works fine but the reverts to something else after a save and reopen - suggests a much larger bug with saving.

  • Entry Point Not Found (Illustrator)

    jfkreyes,
    You may need to reinstall in the full three step way:
    Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Observing many computers causes erratic mouse movements on client macs

    hi!
    I administer a mac lab and when I select all the computers in the class to observe, the student mouses move erraticly.
    do you guys ever encounter this problem ?
    thanks for your help.
    macs are imacs.

    Got it !
    While waiting for Apple to come up with a bug fix (if they ever do, since it probably affects only french users.)
    You can always copy the RFBMultiObserveWindow.nib folder from the English.lproj to the French.lproj... (After having made a copy of the original NIB folder first of course...) And this fixes that...
    I have noticed no localization aberration while doing this.
    Good luck !
