Erratic power behavior when wall charging

Whenever I charge my iPad using the charging block and AC current, I like to turn the power off altogether, rather than just put the iPad into sleep mode.
As soon as I plug it into the wall, the iPad power comes back on. When I go to shut it off again, sometimes it stays off, but sometimes it powers off and then back on after a few seconds.
Is this normal behavior when wall charging?

The ipad cannot charge white it is off. So therefore when you plug it into the wall it turns on to charge and turn it off the ipad knows the power is there but needs to be on to keep it so it turns on..
You are actually damaging your ipad when you turn it off while charging. The reason the second time it stays off a little longer is because the ipad stopped connection until the next wave of electricity flows which is why it turns back on.

  • Very strange behavior when on charge.

When on charge at night my 5s opens and plays random Utube videos from time to time. Last night as we were laying in bed just about to go to sleep we heard my phone clicking, it turns out it wrote a short text message to someone on my contact list, its nothing to do with siri as we were both silent and about to go to sleep when it happened. Has anyone else heard of this.

I had this very same problem when i did the switch. The thing was that there where two tools providing this functionality. The gnome power tool thing and some acpi feature started with systemd.
    Try disabling one of them.

  • TS3474 My nano will not power on when fully charged, screen remains black.

Bought early 2012, no idea what generation it is. When connected to the stereo, the screen illuminates and nano works with stereo controls. When I try to take the nano for a run, when holding the power button down the screen remains black and no amount of touching the screen will produce an image or any sound. Any ideas about troubleshooting the black screen when powering up un-connected?

    Hello gatormother,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:

Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting it while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least six seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    Have a nice day,

  • Very strange macbook power behavior

    Hi!
    I have a white macbook CoreDuo 2G.
A week ago the light from the power adapter's magsafe connection went off and the computer stopped getting power.
A few hours before this, I had a very minor incident. Some tea got spilled on the table and reached the bottom of the computer. Only the plastic case was wet, I removed the battery and everything looked very dry inside. However, some minor drops reached the connectors, but I quickly wiped them.
The laptop worked fine for a few hours, before I noticed the magsafe's light off.
I've tested the power adapter and the battery and they worked fine on another computer. Then I changed the magsafe board connector (from inside the macbook) with a new one.
Now the macbook has a weird power "behavior":
    - When I connect the magsafe with the battery inside the laptop, the computer gets no power.
    - If I remove the battery, the light turns green. If I put the battery back, it will charge normally.
Basically the power doesn't get to the computer unless the battery is removed when the magsafe is connected.
Like I said I tested the battery and, beside the fact that is at 60% capacity, it works fine on another computer.
Do you have any idea what can cause this and how can I fix it?
    Thank you.

Something new just happen. I have a big X in the battery icon.

  • My iphone will not work unless i plug it into my wall charger. but it is fully charged! When I turn it on (only turns on while plugged into wall) it says it needs to be My iphone will not work unless i plug it into my wall charger. but it is fully charged

My iPhone will not work unless I plug it into my wall charger, It is fully charged but only works when it is plugged in to wall charger. When it is turned on it say "Restore needed iphone can not make or receive calls' i tried plugging it up to Itunes but it will not turn on to sync.

First try a hard reset, press and hold the power button and home buttons until the phone restarts and displays the Apple Logo, then let go.
    If that doesn't work...
Try forcing recovery mode and then restore with iTunes.

  • My iPod went into recovery mode and I knew I had to restore it. However, when I plug it into the computer, nothing comes up on the iPod and my iTunes doesn't open. Except, when I plug my iPod into my wall charger, it lights up. What can I do to save it?

For some reason, my iPod doesnt power up when I connect it to my computer, but it does if I plug it into my wall charger.
I need to restore it as it went into recovery mode, what is it that doesn't allow it to connect to my computer and what can I do to fix it?

You can re-download for free (As with the free music the bill just reads .00) .
Try it with one and see for yourself.
Oh yes, spare yourself future grief since this doesn't apply to music and video, get an external HD to back up iTunes and use it!

  • IPhone 4S only powers on when plugged into a wall charger, stuck in bootloop

Today I went to get my phone's screen fixed. At first, the problem was that the phone was rebooting every 3-4 minutes. Then, after it died, it doesn't power on anymore, except when it is plugged into a wall charger. However, it is stuck in a bootloop, where it shows the apple logo for about 7 seconds, then the screen goes black for about 5 seconds, then repeats. I can't unplug it or else the phone goes dead, and plugging it into my computer results in the same deadness. I've tried DFU Mode, Recovery and everything else when plugged into my computer, but it remains dead and black screened. The phone is not picked up at all, it doesn't power on or anything. It only powers on when it is wall charged, but it will bootloop. I can't get past this, and there is no way I can restore it. Help?

Your battery is dead. You will have to replace it see article:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • Faulty UK USB Power Brick/Wall Charger Drains iPhone Battery

I'm writing this post more from an informative perspective, rather than from a question seeking a response.
I have a genuine Apple UK USB wall charger which is at least 2 years old - it either came with my current iPhone 5 or old iPhone 4 from 4 years ago (both look identical).
Recently on charging my phone overnight, I've woken up (late - as the alarm consequently didn't work) to find that the power had drained from my phone rather than the expected charge happening. Having an old phone, I assumed it was the fault of the phone and booked it in for a genius bar visit. Being annoyed about the 1 week+ delay for the next genius bar appointment, I purchased a new iPhone to use temporarily for a week which would then be returned for a full refund on receipt of a replacement for mine.
On testing out the brand new iPhone with the charger, it appears that the same happens:
On plugging in the new phone to the charger once it has been fully charged (100%), within 5 minutes the charge in the phone has become 97%.
I'm guessing it is quite unusual for a USB brick to fail in this way - to actually drain the phone of charge?

I have the dock connector option for my factory stereo as well and am also seeing it drain the iPhone battery. What's odd is that it used to charge just fine.
Initially the iPhone wouldn't route audio through the dock connector in my vehicle. It would see that it was plugged in and gave the Airplane Mode prompt, but would only play audio from its internal speaker. It did, however, charge as expected. Then the iPhone software update 1.0.1 came out which solved the audio issue and allowed me to get the audio to my deck properly. I can't say for sure if it was still charging the iPhone at that point, but it definitely wasn't /draining/ it. Then, right around the time of the 1.0.2 update I started to notice significant drops in battery power when unplugging it after a drive to or from work (usually around 25 minutes). The audio still works fine, but the battery seems to drop at least 15-20% over that drive, whether I have any music playing or just have the iPhone idle but plugged in.
So, software problem, maybe? I have a hard time believing something suggendly changed with the dock connector in my vehicle...

  • IPhone vibrates once a minute when connected to wall charger, nothing showing up on screen

Hello, I have an iPhone 3GS that I want to repair.
The thing is when connected to a wall charger ( not USB ) it vibrates every now and then...
There is nothing showing on screen, it just stays black...
My Mac doesn't detect the iPhone same for my Windows computer.
What do you think ? Battery ? Display ?
    Thank you

If your Power button of iPhone is broken then you can try the Solution provided by " lllaass" in the below Apple Support Discussion and with the help of that software you can try to take your iPhone in Recovery Mode and with the help of same software you can take your Device out of Recovery Mode and see if it works. And if your iPhone goes in Recovery Mode but you are unable to take your iPhone out of Recovery mode then with the help of iTunes on your Computer you can try Restoring your iPhone to factory settings and see if your iPhone is working fine.

  • My iPhone freezes when disconecting from wall charger

Hi! I got an 8gb iphone for Christmas. Works great and it has the latest update that came out in January 08. I the past 2 weeks my phone freezes whenever I disconnect it from the wall charger and I have to go through the trouble of reseting pressing both the home button and the on/off button. When I charge it on the cradle with the computer it does not happen. Is there anything I can do so it stops freezing when I charge it connected to a power outlet? I usually like to charge it on my night stand as I go to sleep. Please help.

I am having the same problem. I have restored my iPhone twice and it is still giving me problems. I thought it was initially the wifi network i was connected to, but I had never had any problems before, but i told the phone to forget the network and reconnected to it, and it fixed it for a little while, but now it is doing it again. I don't know what is going on...but if anyone gets an answer I would like to know!

  • Iphone turns on only when connected to a wall charger and shows that the batterry is 100% charged

My iphone 4 is not turning on using the power button, when i press it nothing happens but when i connect my iphone to a wall charger the apple logo appears and after some time it says "connect to itunes" and "slide to unlock bar" appears at the bottom for emmergency calls and if i unplug the charger the screen goes black. When i connect iphone to my computer the iphone logo comes in and stays there for about 10 seconds and then the screen goes all black and this thing repeats as long as my iphone is connected to the computer. I have tried the hard reset (pressing home button and power button simultaniously) but its useless in this case
I think this is because my battery is totally dead and  need to relace it but if anyone of you knows and think that theres some other problem then please let me know
when it is connected to a wall charger it says that the iphone is 100% charged but i cannot use the iphone as the itunes logo and emergency slide to unlock bar appears on the lockscreen also no service with no wifi nothing its stuck there i can only turn off my iphone using the top sleep button
    iPhone 4

So the iPod only powers on when connected to an external power source such as a USB port on your PC or Mac or when connected to a wall charger?  If so, that is a very good indication that your iPod's battery is shot and in need of replacement.
Apple can swap it out for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party repair service for a bit less.

  • Z3 Battery died, keeps flashing Sony screen and vibrating when connected to wall charger

I have had my phone connected to the wall charger for hours now and it just keeps flashing the Sony Xperia screen and vibrating. The LED light turns on for a second then turns off. It's like it is stuck in a loop.

Hi Thomas1, welcome to the community!
If the LED light does not come on when the phone is connected to a power source then I advise contacting Sony Xperia Customer Care in your region. You can find the contact details by clicking the link in my signature.

  • USB Power AC Wall Charger

    Hi,
I've been charging through the USB port on the computer and it takes about 3 hours, but I've left it in for 4 hours. I'm considering buying a wall charger and wanted to know how long it takes to charge the nano. Can it be fully charged within an hour? Thanks.

It depends on the battery level when you start charging
as stated in the nano spec, a full charge is 3-4 hours

  • My lock button is broken and my iphone will not power back on when I charge it, how do I turn it on?

My iphone will not power on when I plug it into charger in the wall, computer, or car. My lock button is broken and I do not know how to turn it back on. My phone did not die it just went black and has not been dropped, cracked, or gotten wet. What do I do?

Normally one would do a reset, however without the lock button, which is the sleep/wake button, you cannot do a reset. You could always wait until the battery dies to see if it will start when plugged in, but the sleep/wake button is an integral part of the phone and needs to work to do a number of functions. I suggest that you make an appointment at the Genius Bar to get it fixed.
