Erratic Sounds Problem when Navigating Mail

Having some problems with Apple Mail sounds seemingly after having upgraded to 10.5.3. (Apple Mail version 3.3 (924)). Mail sounds seem to randomly play when navigating mail even though no sounds are set to play. For example when using the arrows to move between messages moving upward I get the typing sound and when I move down I get the transporter beam sound. Then after a while it mysteriously stops. I can't even find where to turn these sounds on or off within Mail. I can only find where to adjust the sound for incoming messages, which is set to default. I'm wondering whether these sound commands are coming from a system resource for using the arrows up and down, but I have no idea where these would be and why they are randomly turning on and off. Can anyone help.

I have figured it out! Thank you Macworld June 2009, sometimes you actually have something interesting to offer. I tried a number of other mail applications like Postbox and Thunderbird even though I wasn't excited about leaving Mail's interface. Then I found something that gives me what I want in Mail.

This is a free notifications manger that integrates with mac applications and one of those apps happens to be Mail. Install Growl and GrowlMail (found in the extras folder of the install mount). Then configure it in your Mail preferences and your System preferences. You'll see the added pane in both prefs.
Has work perfectly so far. Every message that comes in, I'm notified instantly with my chosen sound. I can't believe Apple has not fixed this but in Mail, but this is a good patch.

Problem when opening "Mail"

Dear members of the Apple Community,
After transferring my files and my profile on my new Macbook pro, I keep encountering a problem when opening "Mail". Each time I try, the app asks me to choose a mail account to add, but I already added the ones I normally use. I can either create/add this new account or click the "cancel" button. I cannot use the program (the main functions are not available). But if I try to add a new account, Mail does not upload the new messages for my existing accounts and if I click "cancel", the application simply close itself. What could I do?

It might be worth running Disk Utilities and then Repair Disk Permissions to see if that resolves the problem.

SOund problem when using Wi-fi

I have problems with the audio when using wifi... electric disturbance like sound(hiccups) when hearing songs or watching videos...
when wifi is turned off no problems....
whats the solution for this ? can installing any driver solve the problem?

Seems to me like a case of a dying headphone jack.
Try playing with the jack (not the iPhone) while playing music, see if it actually causes the "in-out" thing.
If it did, and you are still under warranty, take it to Apple and they'll hopefully give you a replacement.
I put the iPhone in my pocket, and so far I have killed 3 iPhone headphones and 2 Shure ones this way. I moved to much more expensive Shure's as I thought they would be harder to break and while they lasted longer, they still died.
I'd recommend avoiding pressure on jack as much as possible.

Textarea problem when sending mail (only Firefox)

When sending mail using textarea item with multiple lines, carriage returns are taken away in resulting mail when sent in Firefox, but not in IE.
To send mail, I call Javascript function that gets textarea value ($v or $x.innerHTML give the same result) and calls then on-demand process that calls in turn APEX_MAIL function.

"pre" did the trick. Line breaks are OK now.
There is one small inconvenience, though: font becomes Courrier instead of sans-serif type. But this is less disturbing than missing line breaks.

Sound problems when playing games

I have just bought a new iPod touch. I've noticed that when listening to my headphones, when I play a game the sound goes very crackly. This goes for both the games sound but also whatever mp3 I happening to be listening to. If I exit the game, the sound returns to normal. It doesn't appear to be a problem in other programs (as far as I can tell).
Can anyone shine a light on this?

Yea sorry, should have done that at the start.
I only have 3 games but over 10 apps. I only have problems with these:
– PapiJump
– PapiRiver
– CannonGame
It's not just when I'm using the headphone jack either. Even if I use the external speaker, I can be in the game menu and the sound is ok, as soon as it starts playing it goes crackly. This is both when I am playing a song or when I am just listening to the game sounds.

Sound problems when burning a film made in iMovie in iDVD

PLEASE HELP!!!
I have upgraded to iLife 09 and for all the bad that people have to say, I actually like it a lot. Anyway, it gave me the encouragement I needed to play with some old home movies I had stored with the aim of producing DVDs to give to my friends, and hopefully showing off the slick production values I have come up with.
So after spending a week getting to grips with iMovie and editing an old holiday film with all the cuts, transitions, chapter markers and music etc that I wanted, I ended up with an hour long movie that I was happy with.
Then to iDVD. After trying out all sorts of ways to go from iMovie to iDVD to ensure the best quality, I have finally given up trying to replicate the on screen quality of the movie in iMovie with the finished DVD, and just opted for the easy to use 'share to iDVD' option. The quality is not great, but then the footage is old anyway so not too much of an issue.
Then I spend another few days playing with and learning iDVD and again end up with a finished product that I am happy with, with nice looking menu's and a slideshow etc.
So I come to burn the final DVD, for which I pick the 'Professional burn' option which takes 4 hours but I am happy to wait if it means the best quality possible, and my DVD is done.
I then play the DVD to discover my problem - the sound in the movie is not right. To explain further, in my movie I have reduced the sound of some of the film clips to nothing and placed music over the top. When played and previewed in iMovie it works fine - the music plays and the sound that is attached the the video does not. When previewed in iDVD it works fine - just as I had edited it in iMovie. But then when I burn the DVD, some of these sounds are present again which completely wastes all my hard work at the editing stage.
I have searched and searched for help on this but am unable to find any.
Sorry for the very long description and story behind my issue, but it is massively frustrating. Basically, at some point during the 'burn to DVD' stage in iDVD it decides to completely ignore most of the sound edits I have made on the movie in iMovie.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Further to this, I have just sat and watched the whole final DVD on my TV and it would seem to be that the sound issues may be something to so with the transitions added in iMovie. Some of the sounds have even slipped in time! I get the sound from the next clip coming in early and then a blank patch of sound where it should be. All of this is always just before an iMovie transition.

I have used this code before, in 4.6C release and it works fine, but now I'm on ECC5.0 and when i check the code, the next error message is generated: ""I_EXCEL" cannot be converted to a character-type field." If i try using MOVE i_excel TO i_objbin-line instead of WRITE, the error message changes to: ""TI_OBJBIN-LINE" and "I_EXCEL" are not mutually convertible in a Unicode program. program.". I have tried using ti_objhex table instead of ti_objbin in order to use 'context_hex' parameter (instead of 'context_bin') on FM, but i get the same result.
I've been searching any other FM to do this, and i've found more FM of SOI1 function group but i didn´t get the expected result. So i need to send the message with the excel attached, using this FM or any other, but I need some help. Anyone can help me?

Encoding problem when forwarding mails with attachments using exchange account

Hi,
I'm facing a special misbehaviour of mail. Scenario: With Apple Mail 7.2 I would like to forward an exchange mail with attachments. The mail is wirtten in german and uses german special characters like äüöÄÖÜ. During editing the mail everything is ok which means all characters are shown in thte correct way. When I send the mail, something magic must happen in the background.
When I look in the sent mail folder and open the mail, all special characters are show as "?". Must be an encoding problem, I gues but I don't know how to fix it.
When I send exactly the same mail with another Apple mail account (non exchange), there is no problem. So I assume it has something to do with handling exchange accounts under Apple mail.
Any idea to solve this issue? Thanks in advance.

This is a know issue with Yahoo! Email on the iPhone. When sending email, sometimes it will say it has been sent, while it really has not (and it will not show up in the sent folder).
It has been discussed quite a bit in the forums, so a search will turn up a lot of discussion, but no solid solution. Some say Yahoo is working on a fix, other that Apple is.
The most common solution (which is usually temporary), is to either reboot your phone, and/or delete and reinstall your Yahoo! Mail account on your phone.

IMovie, sound problems when i split the sound clip

I'm editing a movie and everything worked out fine until this week. When i put in a song in iMovie, and then split the clip the sound dies in both parts of the clip. The clip volume is still 100% but there's no sound. Even the songs i put in last week went silent this Tuesday for no reason. Can anyone help me out here? I need to hand in this video tonight.

Noone has any idea what it could be? Noone expirenced this? Try an answer... i want to say that i rewrite the bios and still the same thing...

Text format problem when sending mails

Very strange problem when navigating in Contribute

I have a user at a remote location, connecting via a VPN
router. For some reason at some point during her usage of
Contribute, she is no longer able to browse or navigate the site.
Even if she tries to Choose a file, or manually type in a web page
URL into the address bar. The little "C" icon in the top-right is
spinning but it's not responding. If the user pulls up IE the site
comes up fine. When she closes and re-opens Contribute it usually
fixes it and works for a while. At last communication, it wasn't
working at all even after a restart. I personally noticed this
issue on my computer when I was at her location. I have other users
connected the same way at different locations, but so far no
reports from them. Any ideas at all?

It's not about "like" or "not like", it's about following
common code of conduct of
this forum specified by the posting guidelines, to which by
the way you agreed upon
singing up in here.
Secondly, regardless your personal feeling on the topic, it
simply works against you
whether you like it or not. Regular forum participants will
ignore bumped posts,
bottom line just to prove that pushing your way while others
wait nicely in the queue
is plain rude. All posts are equally impotent and equally
urgent, it's rather arrogant
to climb your way back just so you can get answer faster.
So go ahead, bump away...tho, don't ***** about no body
entertaining your questions
but before you do that, familiarize yourself with posting
guidelines and general forum
ethics.

Date problem when saving mail

Hi,
I'm using EWS Managed API 2.2 with Visual Basic 2013. I'm trying to import EML file to user mailbox using EMailMessage Save method, and it works great, but received date in Outlook is set to today's date. I'd like it to be date found in EML file.
Can anyone point me as to how to do that?

You would need to set the delivery time explicitly in the create. AFAIK Exchange ignores the received date in the MIME stream. Something like this should work:

Pismo Sound Problems after Sleep in Tiger

Hi all. New to the forums and returning to Macs after years of cursing Bill Gates. Picked up a Powerbook Pismo from a friend and have been having some fun with it, but I have one problem I can't solve. I replaced the hard drive (saved the old one) and installed Tiger and 1GB of memory on the machine. All seemed well until I noticed that the sound would not work sometimes after sleeping. The sound will usually return with a reboot, but sometimes I'll have to actually turn the machine off, and clear the PRAM to get the sound to come back. Sometimes, the volume and screen controls will both not work at all (pop up doesn't even appear when the keys are pressed), sometimes it's just that the sound doesn't work, but everything looks right on the screen. I've also had the sound and screen buttons not work only to have pop ups suddenly appear and the adjustments happen several minutes after I pressed the keys. So far I've tried:
Clearing the PRAM
Checked the Pram Battery (ok)
Reinstalled Tiger (Still loses sound)
Downgraded to 10.3 (problem persists, and seems worse)
In system information on Tiger it says "there was an error when retrieving that information" when you click on the sound hardware.
The machine is a 500mhz Pismo with a 48gig drive and 1 gig of Memory (133mhz, would that cause this sort of problem?)
I have not tried going back to OS9 to see if the disappearing sound resolves as I don't currently have an OS9 disk.
This sure seems like a software problem, but I'm starting to wonder. I really like this machine and want to get it to work! Help!

Did you repair permissions after you installed Tiger? Have you updated Tiger to 10.4.11?
Here's the Sound troubleshooting info in the Pismo Service Manual.
No sound from speaker(s)
1. Verify mute mode is not enabled (F6 on the keyboard).
2. Check the volume setting in the Sound control panel.
3. Verify no external speakers or headphones are plugged in.
4. Reset PRAM.
5. Make sure speaker cable is plugged into sound card.
6. Replace sound card.
7. Replace speakers (part of the top case).
8. Replace I/O logic board
Startup sound is heard, then no sound from speaker(s)
1. Remove sound preferences from System Folder, reset PRAM,
then restart.
2. Perform clean installation of system software.
Had the Pismo previously had OS X installed. There's a firmware update (Boot ROM version 4.1.8) that should be installed prior to installing OS X. However, when I got my Pismo with Tiger installed, the firmware was not updated (have since updated). However, I don't think this could be the cause of your problem, since I had no sound problems when the update was not installed.
The PC133 RAM (which runs at 100MHz) should not be the problem. I have PC133 RAM in my Pismo.
Since you replaced the HD, could you have disturbed the connection to the Sound Card. The Sound Card is located to the upper-right of the HD. Here's a helpful laptop site.
