Erratic Trackpad Issue - Very Annoying!

I've got a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.5.2. Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, I've had intermittent problems with my trackpad/cursor. Sometimes, after sleeping the computer and waking it up, I get very erratic cursor movements (it "jerks" around the screen). It is getting very irritating. I thought 10.5.2 would fix this issue, but it didn't. What I've had to do is restart the computer whenever it happens - which is multiple times a day...
Anybody know what I could do to fix this? I would be extremely grateful for someone's help. Thanks!

Try switching to another application and see if it fixes the problem temporarily. Hold down Alt and then hit the Tab button.
I have been fighting what seems like the same problem. Switching to another application and back seems to fix it - at least for a few minutes..

  • Photoshop CS5 Issue - Very Annoying

    Hello all,
I'm having a very weird (and needless to say, very annoying) issue with my Photoshop CS5 Extended. Any knowledge or help would be highly appreciated. FYI - I'm photographer so my primary use is image editing.
Basically, every time I make a change to a layer (apply a filter or change blending modes), Photoshop does not reflect those changes unless I hit Ctrl+S to save or perform another action (such as selecting a different tool from the tool-set). For example, consider this scenario:
    - I open a PSD file that only contains a background layer.
    - I duplicate the background layer
    - I change the blending mode to "Multiply"
    - Nothing happens to the image (no visual changes even though the image should have gotten darker)
    - Now if I hit Ctrl+S to save the document, the screen is refreshed and now I see the changes.
I have no idea what might be causing this. I have the latest 12.0.1 patch installed. I have gone through my preferences to see if something needs to be checked but to no avail.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    FYI - I'm running this on Windows 7 - 64-bit
    Thanks
    -ali

That can be a good workaround, but be aware that some things won't work...  For example, you won't be able to see a preview of your brush hardness using the Alt-right mouse button brush gestures.  And of course zoom won't be smooth, and pans won't flip with inertia (big whoop).  If you have Extended you may not find the 3D features as usable.
What I'd do if I were you is do some searches for people using your specific video card and see if any of them have found any older drivers that work better.  Then bug nVidia to fix their drivers.
Alternatively, a really fine video card with huge speed and memory can be had nowadays for a hundred bucks.

  • Erratic trackpad issues

Recently, my trackpad has been acting up.
    Symptoms: (just SOME, not all)
-cursor/arrow will move on its own
    -random areas will become highlighted
-gestures are wonky (ex: swiping from left to right with one finger will change entire desktops)
    -screens will zoom in
-left mouse click acts as if the right mouse button was clicked
It's almost as if someone has taken control of my trackpad.
    Note: I have Lion 10.7.1
    Remedies already tried:
    -PRAM reset
    -SMC reset
-shut down computer and let rest for a few hours
    -software update
-turning off all trackpad and gestures
I've read Apple's official explanation for an erratic trackpad (which was useless to me) and other users' experiences but none seem to match what's going on with mine.  I know I can take it to a store and have some "Geniuses" look at it, but I was hoping to exhaust all possible at home solutions first.
Has anyone had similar problems, and what did you do???
    I really appreciate any feedback.

    Ralph,
I tried the SMC Reset - and it helps to an extent. It works fine, albeit a little sluggish, for about 10-15 minutes before it becomes sluggish and erratic again.
The magsafe led colour is either orange/yellow or green (when fully charged). The charge button on the side shows that green lights fill up except for the last one which flashes.
I'm now trying a software update but I don't know if that will work.

  • Macbook pro retina erratic trackpad issues

Mapbook pro with retina display trackpad has erattic behavior after 2 - 3 minutes of use.  The behavior is most noticeable in Final Cut Pro X.  When dragging and dropping clips, multy touch gestures will trigger unintentionally, causing the app to switch to the desktop, and launchpad and back dozens of times per second.  the behavior continues and gets more frequient the longer the computer is awake...  I'm hoping its a software issue... spent 3400 dollars on this thing... this is a rather infuriating bug for this, one of the most expensive laptops a person could buy.
ordered around june 18th, recieved around july 10th.  upgraded to mountain lion and installed all updates.

I'm having the same issue. I have mountain lion installed for a while now and just yesterday the trackpad went crazy (nothing new installed recently). The click works but the mouse just jumps all over the place or sometimes doesn't move at all. It's completely unusable now and I've had to revert back to my old MacBook :-(
Booted into the recovery partition and had the same issue. So I assume it's a firmware problem. Tried installing the trackpad 1.0 update (took 15 mins to lauch safari, download the update and try and click on it, that's how bad the trackpad is) but that was for 10.7 and it won't let me install it.

  • Erratic Trackpad Issues. MBP/R Late 2012

I got this Macbook a year and a half ago, November 2012, and within a month I spilled an entire bottle of watter all over the thing. But luckily, I was quick about it. I shut it off immediately, and threw it upsidedown in a box of rice for a week. I took it out and no harm done. It was perfectly fine. I never experienced any issues with it.
2 years later. I take a damp clorox wipe to my keyboard / trackpad, as I have many other times. I have oily hands I guess. I like to keep things clean.  I probably should have shut it off, but I didn't. I hit a few buttons when I wiped off my keyboard.
10--20 minutes later, my trackpad starts having a seizure. Clicking things. Creating folders, renaming stuff on my desktop, swiping across my desktops. Insane things. Even typing a letter or number here and there.
I tried restarting it and I got a weird graphical glitch when the gray apple screen came up. There were some weird colors and that really worried me.
I was worried about liquid getting under the trackpad, and it probably did, but not much. I mean I spilled an entire bottle over the trackpad area and it was fine, It'd be completely insane that a quick damp wipe would have ruined it. But I shut if off and left it in a box of rice for a day.
I took it out and it worked fine... for 30 seconds, before it gradually started to get worse.
I boot into Windows 8. Exact same problem. So it's deffinitely a hardware issue.
Boot back into OSX and after fighting with the erractic behavior I somehow managed to get into the Accessibility preferences to disable the trackpad when a wireless mouse is connected. When I did that, it stopped, and I finally got control back and now I'm posting this.
I tried resetting NVRAM/PRAM but that didn't do anything.
I don't have warranty or apple care anymore, and maybe I shoud, considering all the issues I've had. I guess, does anyone know how much it would cost to get this fixed? The drive to the Apple Store is pretty far for me. Is it even worth it to have it fixed? Could I fix it myself ordering parts?
I've also had a buzzing left fan for a while. It still keeps my laptop cool, according to iStat Menus, but I'm thinking it's about to die.
2 years seems kind of quick to buy a whole new laptop, but if the price to fix the fan and the trackpad is over $500, maybe I'll just sell this one as a parts laptop on ebay for $1000 which is less than half of what I paid and use that to get a new one.

  • TOC strings issue - VERY annoying

    Hello all,
we have used the TOCStrings.ini to change the language and some other aspects of the TOC. Regretably I have found no possibily to alter this for existings projects or templates. If you create an english template, then change your TOCStrings.ini to french language and create a new project using the existing template, then the TOC is english again even though its a new project!
In our case, this is extremely annoying because we have to create new templates over and over again for each small change of the TOC strings, manually correcting all project setings each time.
Has any solution been found for this yet, or is there a better workaround that we am overlooking? I have already tried to edit the project file with a HEX editor without luck so far.

  • Wifi issue, very annoying

First I would like to say hi to all forum members. I'm Mike from NJ. Recently I dumped my Windows PC and decided to finally make the switch. After many years of debating I couldnt be happier. Long story short, my wifi tends to be finicky about connecting to optimum wifi spots. My phone gets on network and most times my mac does to, but sometimes I have to close firefox open safari play with network diagnostics etc. No problem on my wifi. What gives?
Thanks in advance for any insight,

I am very annoyed at the Creative Cloud set up and the non-stop issues and problems!  I am paying monthly for this service and it is constantly failing in some way!  So far in three months I have had to uninstall and re-install Photoshop THREE times because it stopped working properly and Illustrator I have had to do that same to TWICE!  That isn't including the other apps that have had issues!  I don't have the time to constantly be un-installing and re-installing all or some of the Creative Cloud because your developers are not making a product that works consistently for the money you are charging!  It is costing me more than just this monthly fee!  And I am even less impressed with the fact that I cannot email someone for assistance in resolving these issues.  Really Adobe?

My macbook pro is running very slow with some strange mouse and window movements. The trackpad is very unresponsive and when responding the cursor moves on its own and/or very erratically. When on safari the window suddenly zooms in or highlights words and looks them up via dictionary. I currently have a wireless mouse connected and I am still having the same problems.
I fee like I may have a virus or my laptop is perhaps being accessed remotely. All of the sharing options are unchecked.
    HELP PLEASE
    Very worried!!

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • Very annoying spotlight issue

    Hello to everyone !
mds operation is keeping on running causing spotlight searches to retrieve no result at all, the only way of getting results back is to kill the process through activity monitor and suddenly results are coming back.
I know this subject has been covered throughout multiple forums and pages but we need to admit that there's no solution working for the long term.
I am just wondering WHY apple didn't provide a fix through mac os x updates ? They do know that the problem lasts for very long time (even prior to mac os x 10.7) and had been reported by many users... SO WHY ? This is very annoying. Maybe the put more resources trying to find how to make the next Iphone or Ipad even a more best seller ! I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED !
So please share your comments or give me a workaround i didn't had a chance to find !
    Thanks
    Vincent

How are you doing a search while the index is still rebuilding? How are you reindexing for that matter? *sudo mdutil -E pathtovolume* will erase the index and a new one will be created.
Is the privacy tab of Spotlight excluding any directories that would have these files?

  • Small issue but very annoying....

When using the dashbaord to access the calculator in Snow Leopard it would overlay it over the project i was working on. In Lion when accessing the calculator it takes me to a new screen. This is very annoying as i like to see what im working on while using the calculator at the same time. Now i have to swtich back and forth between screens.  I know in the grand scheme of things this is a small problem but its very annoying. Is there a way i can make the calcualtor work as it did in Snow Leopard?

  • Ever since I updated to iOS 8 on iPhone 5, sometimes when I press the home button just once it will open the app switcher or even the assistive button. Anyone else have this problem? Is it an iOS 8 glitch? Please help - very annoying.

I updated to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 yesterday and now when I press the home button even once, it opens the app switcher (which is supposed to only open after pressing the home button twice quickly). Sometimes pressing the home button once even brings up the assistive button (which for me should take three button presses). This did not happen before I updated my software. Has anyone else had this issue? Know how to stop it? Very annoying and at this point feel like I should have waited before I did the update.

Hello ..do you have a history on the phone? did you get it wet? was it dropped? have you been using an authentic ORIGINAL apple charging cable?
this problem occurs when there is a short circuit  in the phone... you  most likely got  it wet at some point and maybe didnt even realize it? The moisture in the phone hasb probablly  oxidized one or several capacitors, integrated chips thereby short circuiting the phone. that is why he phone  is acting erratic because these short circuits inadvertently "activates" other circuits.. eventually the phone will not turn on anymore- the heat will stress the citcuit board and you will have discontinuity along your main power lines and the phone will cease to function..i see this alllll the time in our shop
the fact you upgraded to ios6 will even work the phone harder because its a more powerful operating system taking full advantage of the A4 chip..
