Hi and Welcome to the Community!
When it requests this pin, what exactly does the screen say?
If it says something like "Enter Device Password" and gives a counter like "1/10", then what it's asking for is the user-created device lock password. If such a password has been created on the device, then it is necessary to also enter it when connecting the device to the computer. You need to ask your sister what her device lock password is.
On the other hand, if the screen displays something different, then the answer would likewise be different, and we'd need to know from you exactly what the screen says.
Good luck and let us know!

• App 523 Err reset--continued frustration

Hi there I am a new poster to this board and would appreciate any suggestions on this issue. I have tried to correct this error with remarks from many previous posts. This is happening on 2 blackberries in our firm while the others are unaffected. They are all on a BES(we have 2). One user has a tendency to download apps where the other only uses the device for email straight and simple. I have tried the following over the last month or so and this error keeps cropping up on only these 2 users with intermittent frequency ( sometimes daily otherwise weekly)
1. Wiped and reloaded blackberry, readded to BES
2. Warranty replaced blackberry ( new devices)
3. Changed bb server ( new BES)
4. SIM Swapped ( new SIMS)
5. Reset to factory
6. Cleared and reloaded OS, removed all APPS
7. Moved Exchange mail store
8. Removed duplicated and possibly problematic calendar items with appointment prompts.
9. I have called AT&T and RIM both seem unsure of how to solve this issue.
All of these steps have happened numerous times at this point these devices are in 2 different offices, used in 2 completely different ways and 2 different time zones. They both are new with new batteries, sims, and servers. I would welcome any further ideas.
Thank you

• My BB 8520 wld nt connect with my DM

I tried to solve the. Issue app 523 error on my blackberry 8520, after connecting it to my DM its shows an image(pc connecting to phone)nd later the app error shows up nd the image goes off, then on my DM is shows checking for update nd so it stays for a long period and nothing else

Does it mean that my bb is destroyed?
How do I make it connect my bb to my DM ?

So, you are essentially following the procedure at the following link?
http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?externalId=KB16068&sliceId=1&cmd=displayKC&d...
I think I would wipe the BlackBerry with BBSAK or JL_CMDER and then try again.
You may have an issue with your compute and the desktop manager if you keep having trouble. I suggest downloading and installing the OS software on the computer and then use loader.exe to install to the handset.
Your BlackBerry will be okay.

• OS help!

Hello everyone,
I could use some step by step instructions on how to redownload an OS onto a blackberry curve 8530? I have the error app 523 white screen. Any help would be appreciated.

Follow these directions from the knowledge base article below.
To force the detection of the BlackBerry® smartphone using the application loader tool, complete the following steps:
Desktop Manager 4.5 to 5.0.1:
Remove the battery from the back of the BlackBerry smartphone.
Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer using a USB cable.
In the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, double-click Application Loader.
Click Start under the Update Software heading.
The Device Password dialog appears. If the BlackBerry smartphone is password enabled, enter the password. If the BlackBerry smartphone does not have a password, leave this field empty.
Click OK.
If prompted with a list of Available Updates, choose the latest software version by selecting the corresponding check box and then click Next.
Click the Settings button under the Device backup and restore options.
Make sure that the Back up device data automatically during the installation process check box is not selected.
Make sure that the Delete all application data and Erase all currently installed applications check boxes are both selected.
Click OK on the Settings dialog.
Insert the battery into the back of the BlackBerry smartphone.
In the Application Loader wizard, click Next to proceed with the loading process.
When the process is complete, the Application Loader wizard displays the following message: The loading operation was successful.
Insert the memory card, if applicable.
Close the Application Loader wizard.

• BB 8320 showing APP error 523. How do I back up data before installing new os

Help me pls I'm very desperate> my BB is just over 1 year old. Woke up to find the screen with APP ERRor 523 reset . I've tried all tricks in previous treads without success. Only thing left is to install new os. Trouble is that the BB is not backed up yet. How can I back it up before removing old os and installing a new os

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Sorry, but it is highly likely that your data is already lost...so there is nothing to backup now. This simply proves the point that there are two kinds of computing device users...those who have lost data...and those who will. Backups before things go wrong are simply not optional.
Good luck and let us know!

• App Error 523

Hey Folks,
Im in a bit of a bother. 3 weeks ago, i went to goa for a few days off. I had switched off my phone, and when i landed, i turned it on in order to call the hotel. When i did turn it on, i got this white screen which simply said "app error 523" and gave me only one option, to reset. When i did reset the phone, it came back to the same screen, and now......thats all my blackberry does. Its a 8520 by the way. I cant put in my SIM PIN, i cant make a call, i cant plug it into a computer, i cant do anything with it basically. Its just dead.
SO!!! Since it is still under warranty, i gave it to Jumbo Electronics, hoping theyd be able to fix it up for me. I have specifically asked them to keep my data, because i have business contacts that are vital to my work on there. Now, Jumbo called me up, and said they cant make my phone functional, without reformatting the entire device, and losing all of my data.
Now, no offence to Jumbo, but i doubt they have the proper expertise to deal with this. As far as i can see, they are just plugging it into a PC and reformatting it like anyone could do.
Which is why i turn to you guys. Is there any way, any at all, that i can keep my data and use my phone ever again??
I havent ever backed it up, not that i would remember doing it, but i doubt i have. Is there any way i can fix this up??
Please please please help me out, im so sick of this. I did nothing wrong whatsoever, and now im losing time, and money i could have been making, as well as a constant headache.
Appreciate all your suggestions and responses.
Thanks and Cheers,
Gaurav

Hi
If you have never done a back-up of your device, then you will lose all your personal settings, contacts etc. Reformatting basically means reloading the software which will completely wipe out the data.
The ONLY possibility is that you have connected to the PC using the Desktop manager or Software and did inadvertantly do a back-up. If you never connected them don't bother trying to find the file, if you did it has the extension .ipd and so is easy to find in a search.
Otherwise the Jumbo guys are quite right. Sorry.

• App Error 523 Reset

Will somebody please help with my BB Pearl 8110 by walking me through
the complete resolution to this problem?
It all began by turning itself on and off, on and off.
I checked for updates an began the update process to v 5?
Unfortunately it must've turned itself on and off, on and off causing
App Error 523 Reset.
I followed other advice like hard and soft reboots? and my BB began
Blinking 4 times then once repeatedly.
So after going through, what I thought were the correct steps to recover
I've once again returned to
App Error 523 Reset.
At this point all I want is my BlackBerry back. Forget any personal items
I once had. I'll start all over again.
Thanks a bunch for any help and if it helps I will surely post so.
Scott

Hello!
We are so sorry that you are having so many difficulties. While many experience the same (a search here will reveal that fact), there are also many who have very positive experiences with their BB. Not every device is suitable for everyone -- which IMHO is why there are so many choices.
FYI -- these forums are a user-to-user support channel, not a user-to-RIM conduit. As such, it is unfortunate that we all missed your post and did not provide any useful responses to you...but, we are volunteers and not paid RIM support folks...sometime we just miss things. But a perusal through these forums will I think show your experience to be abnormal (as far as helpfulness in these forums is concerned). But, yes, I am biased...I volunteer a lot of time here when I can.
For the benefit of others who search and find this thread, here is the relevant KB for resolving the 523 error:
KB11816 Error "523 app.error.Reset" appears on the BlackBerry smartphone
