  • Videos not recognised after updating software

My iPod won't sync my videos. This is for all video files (.mov, .mpv, the lot). They played fine on my video iPod before and they still play in iTunes, but when I try to update, I just get a "file not recognised by your iPod" message. This only happened after I installed the latest updates.
I'm on OSX 10.4.10, latest iTunes and iPod software. This is really annoying-- should have known better than to update mac software when prompted, I guess.

I have almost the same problem - After I had updated, I could still play my music videos on my ipod, but I couldn't download to the ipod. Now, after doing a reset, all video podcasts and new videos appear to be on the ipod but when I play them all I get is the audio track, even for 'old' videos I played before. This applies to movies and tv programs as well, which has upset me more than anything else as the movie I have on my ipod is a short one of my daughters wedding. Come on Apple - put this right - or has anyone else come up with a solution??

  • Ipod not recognised after upgrading to iTunes 11.2.2

I upgraded ITunes to version 11.2.2 yesterday afternoon and have tried to update my ipod classic this morning. The ipod is not recognised in ITunes nor does it appear in My Computer. My partner has plugged in her Ipod nano and this is not recognised either. Have done all the recommended troubleshooting, which doesn't work. What's happening? I am using Windows 8 on a brand new laptop.

  • Files on 60GB iPod not found after updates to 1.2

Before I restore just thought I would check. My iPod is conflicted as to what is loaded. Problems occur after update of iTunes 7.0 and iPod updater 1.2.
Manually update is set. iTunes 7.0 says I have 6.0GB of Audio, 13.82GB of Video on a total capacity of 55.68GB iPod. However it also says I have 54.84GB of free space? All music and video files appear with the ! in iTunes, which means file not found.
However, all titles of the files appear on the iPod as if they were still there but just not readable? From the iPod's settings, under About, it shows I still have 1250 Audio file, 98 videos but 54.84GB of space available. If I try to play files in a playlist, it just breezes through the album art and titles like it can't read the files.
Reset, reboot and reinstall does nothing.
iPod is unusable, should I wait for another update?
Should I just restore and loose some stuff that was not backed up? (stupid on my part I know.)
Or does anyone else know of a possible trick I could try?

  • IPod not recognised after working fine for over a year

I got my mini ipod Christmas 2004 and it has worked beautifully ever since, until recently.
I plugged in my ipod to my laptop which is the computer I usually update and use itunes on and it states “USB Devise not recognised”, the usual “do not disconnect” sign didn’t show on my actual ipod. I downloaded the updates for everything available and I reloaded itunes but nothing works! I even tried it on another computer where it works fr a while and then the same problem just happened again.
Please can someone help, I love my little ipod and would like to have him fixed!
Any help is welcome, thanks in advance

  • Ipod not recognized after updating software

    1. I returned my Ipod to Apple for battery service.
    2. After getting it back, I updated the software on my computer.
    3. When I plug in the Ipod, I get a message that the hardware did not install properly.
    4. The Ipod does not have an error message on itself.
    5. Itunes does not recognize the Ipod.
    6. I've reset the thing about 20 times.
    7. I'm about to throw the piece of crap away.

    Jim,
Press "select"+"play" keys and you will see the disk mode sign. plug it with your PC, open the iPod updater and click Restore. Try to use the USB behind the computer instead of the front.

  • IPod not found after update to 9.0.3

I updated my iTunes to the latest version (9.0.3)and ever since, I have not been able to sync my iPod. In fact, iTunes won't even recognize my iPod and when I conncet the iPod to my computer iTunes completely freezes. Also when I connect my iPod, my computer opened up the F: thinking that's what it should do when the iPod was connected. I used the troubleshooting on the support page and changed the drive letter, but it still didn't work. I've also tried the suggestions of uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and still nothing, and I've tried restarting iTunes, and of course...nothing. I see others are having crazy problems with the update. Am I to assume this is an update problem, or is there perhaps something wrong with my iPod? If/when Apple fixes this, will there be a good chance the iTunes will recognize my iPod again? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Same here, any solutions?

  • 5g 30gig iPod not working after update, Please Help!

I have a 5th gen 30gig iPod and a yesterday I tried to update it. During the update after it shut itself off and started back up the updater froze around 20%. After about two hours of waiting I forced the updater to quit (restarted it with menu/select) and then tried to turn it back on to no avail. So right now the iPod is dead.
I've tried the whole hold menu/select to reset (even for up to a min) then I did the flip hold on and off and try again method. I also tried with the iPod plugged into my PC and my Mac. I also tried using the AC adapter. All attempts resulted in failure. Because it stopped working after the update I'm confident that it isn't the battery or that the iPod is physically damaged and that this is just a software issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've had the iPod for a little over a year and therefore have no warranty for it.

I am having the same exact problem as you, it just won't boot up. The apple logo lights up on the screen for a little while and tried to boot up, then the screen goes black, and it starts over, the ipod trying,(and failing)to boot up. This goes on like this until the battery is dead. I'll repost if I figure out how to fix this.

  • Batteries not being recognised after update!!

My OS seems to be messed up! I updated my battery while running on 10.4.3, and it asked me to remove battery and plug it back in and restart.
I did that, but now my battery is simply not recognised??? I tried plugging in the other battery but that too is not being recognised! Though both batteries run and I am able to use laptop without powerchord.. but once the battery runs out, i need to plug in powerchord and this does NOT charge the battery.
This is bad, as now I have 2 batteries which are not recognised after the update!?? I even tried updating to 10.4.4. Doesn't help!

    Got it.
Try running the firmware update for the battery again.
The first couple of times I tried the firmware update failed. With the firmware update window open but in the "didn't work" mode, remove the battery and replace it and then hit the update button again. Took a couple of times but I got it to work, the computer recognized the battery and all is smiles again.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod not recognised by windows iTunes

iPod not recognised by windows 8 computer.
After I recently updated iTunes I plugged my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my windows 8 desktop.
It was not recognised as an iPod by iTunes, only as a storage device in MS Windows.
After much searching I identified the problem was there was no apple mobile device USB driver installed.
    I searched for … devmgmt.msc
    Which opened the Device Manager
In Device Manager, under Portable devices, the Apple iPod should have been listed. It wasn’t.
So I Right Clicked on ‘Apple iPod’ and left clicked on ‘Update Driver Software’.
Then ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
Browsed to this location … Windows (C) / Program files / Common Files / Apple / Mobile Device Support / Drivers /
    And then clicked on ‘usbaapl64’
It installed the Apple mobile device USB Driver, as it should have done already, when I recently updated iTunes.
Could someone check the above to see if I have described the problem and the solution correctly.
    Thanks. Chris KV

OK, update to try to provide a clearer description of the problem and solution that worked for me.
    Problem.
After I recently updated iTunes I plugged my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my windows 8 desktop. It was not recognised as an iPod by iTunes, only as a storage device in MS Windows. After much searching I identified that there was no Apple Mobile Device USB driver installed. Without the driver Windows did not recognise the Apple iPod when connected via USB.
    Solution.
I needed to use the Windows Device Manager, so I searched for … devmgmt.msc (You need to include the .msc) and clicked on it, which opened the Device Manager in a new window.
In Device Manager, under Portable devices, the Apple iPod should have been listed. It wasn’t.
So I Right Clicked on: ‘Apple iPod’ and left clicked on: ‘Update Driver Software’.
Then clicked on: ‘Browse my computer for driver software’.
Then clicked on browse and drilled down to the following location on my hard drive:
    C:\Program files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers /
    And then clicked on ‘usbaapl64’
This installed the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
Now Windows recognises my iPod again.
PS. I can’t remember if I had to restart the computer once the device driver was installed. But if the above doesn’t work for you, then at the end, try restarting to see if that finishes the installation of the device driver. Good luck

  • Ipod shuffle 2 nd gen itunes 9 ipod not recognised (windows 7 64 bit OS)

    Hi
I see that others are having issue. My problem is that I have windows 7 ultimate installed (64 bit) along with itunes 9 (64 version) . When i plug in my ipod shuffle 2nd gen 1gb I get the following message " the software required for communicating with ipod and mobile phones is not installed properly. Do you want Itunes to repair this for you?'
Say yes reboot - same error message .Connect ipod not recognised.
    Have reinstalled itunes 9
Have also uninstalled itunes and reinstalled
gone to portable devices under device manager to update drivers still issues
Is anyone getting the same error message and is there a solution
    really frustrating !!!

I'm having the same kind of problem and haved tried pretty much everything my self. We have two computers. One with Vista and the other with XP pro. We have three iPods.
80g video, Touch first generation and touch second generation. Everything works fine with the first two, but windows cannot find the driver for the 2nd generation touch. Altough all drivers seem to be installed. The problem started with the Vista computer. I've uninstalled and re-installed everything and nothing works. Took everything on the XP computer, and the 2nd generation touch is still not recognized.
Of course I-tunes is up to date and all drivers as well.

Since we don't have a crystal ball, its very hard for anyone to tell you why it might not activate if you don't provide details...
What happens when you try?  What error message do you get?  Was the phone previously jailbroken or unlocked?
