Error 0x8002006D when trying to burn DVD's

Since my faulty DVD drive was replaced under guarantee I cannot burn DVDs. I can burn CDs however. I only discovered this fault after the 3 months extention guarantee that Apple gives for replacement parts had expired.

I've used compressed air in the drive slot. Any ideas other than cleaning the drive please?
Thanks

On general principles, you do need a good backup. If your hard drive was to die a sudden death, either everything you have would be permanently gone or it would cost lots of money to retrieve it.
The best way to do a backup is onto an external firewire hard drive. You can decide if you want to get a desktop drive, which is generally cheaper for its size, or a portable.
Here's one way to do it. Find an external drive which is at least as big as your internal drive. It's OK to have one bigger, because you could then partition it and use the extra partition to archive and store large files and free up space on your internal hard drive.
Once you have the drive, you can use a utility like Super Duper to make an exact bootable copy of your internal hard drive on the external, which will either be the same size as your internal drive, or it will have a partition equal in size to your internal drive. You can download Super Duper and use it for free as long as you like. If you want to unlock some extra features like "Smart Update", you can pay to register it, which was $27 last time I checked.
http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
Super Duper is very easy to use, is a good way to keep an up to date bootable copy of your internal hard drive. Being bootable is important, because it means that should your internal hard drive suddenly die, you can boot up from the external and not have any down time.
Another cloning utility is Carbon Copy Cloner:
http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
I believe that you can also download CCC for free and just make a donation if you like. It also makes a bootable clone, but I'm not as familiar with it.
The good thing about the bootable clone is that it will be identical to your internal hard drive, so everything will be backed up and safe. And it won't destroy any data or settings.
Back to your DVD question. I don't know if force quitting the Finder would solve your issue or not. But I did see on another thread where someone suggested creating a new user account and seeing if the DVD would work on the new account. I think the theory there might be that there might be a software related problem with your usual account that wouldn't exist on a new account, but I don't know for sure. I've heard of creating a new account for troubleshooting purposes, so it would certainly be something to try.
Good luck!

  • What does error message when trying to burn DVD from iDVD mean "not enough disk space to burn the remaining assets"

I created a DVD in idvd and now when trying to burn to DVD using external burner, I get the error message
"not enough disk space to encode the remaining assets". I am using a brand new blank DVD.
I have read the help info on computer but hasnt proved helpful.
    Any suggestions?

iDVD requires a fair amount of disk space to carry out the encoding process; depending on your project, you may need to have over 25 GB free space on your startup hard drive.  How much free space do you have?

  • Error message when trying to burn DVD+R DL

I am trying to burn a 6GB project onto a DVD+R DL for the first time. The burning process runs through 100% then I get a blank DVD and an error message that says... "Layer 0 exceeds the maximum layer size allowed, please choose a suitable marker location that will support this condition." I'm not quite sure what this means. Any advice?

Welcome to the Boards (Search seems to be gone, urgh, because I had a post I usually point to, bummer)
1.) In a DL disc Layer 0 needs to be larger than Layer 1
2.) A marker needs to be placed as a Layer Break in the project to indicate the layers.
3.) The marker will be right around the 1/2 point of the disc (give or take)
4.) Find the place which is about 1/2 way and put a few markers in there
5.) Build the DVD to the HD then select format. If there is a suitable layer break marker it will be black otherwise it will be gray. Sometimes finding the right place for the marker with hunting and pecking
I will dig up some more info

Since I posted last, I came across the following link over at the Encore Forum. There the user could not update the burner firmware and found that the disc brand made the difference between failure and success. Imation and Memorex discs worked, whereas Verbatim did not.
So, I stand corrected on focusing in on the "RAM Failure" portion of your error message. But, I am looking forward to further details of your Break Apart Slideshow failure. I have come across at least one case where RAM issue impacted that even when you used the right Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor Output option.

  • Multiplexer error message when trying to burn DVD in iDVD

When I try to burn a DVD in iDVD, at the end of the burning process, I get a message that reads "Multiplexer Error" "There was an error during formatting".
Can anyone out there give me advice on how to remedy this?
    Thanks!

When iDVD isn't functioning correctly, a basic maintenance procedure to try is:
    1) Closing iDVD and trashing the file com.apple.iDVD.plist found in User/Library/Preferences.
    2) Doing a permissions repair using the Disk Utilities app on your Mac.
Instead of burning directly from iDVD, try saving as a disk image (an option in the iDVD File menu). This will take a while as the encoding is redone. If you get a successful disk image, open it in your DVD Player app to check it out. If all O.K. burn it at a burn speed of 4x or less with Disk Utility to a DVD-R disk of good quality, like Verbatim or HP. On my computer, Disk Utility defaults to 4x burn speed, which is good.
See if any of the above helps.

  • Error when trying to burn DVD

    Hi
I get this error (repeatedly) when trying to burn DVD recently.
    Error code 0x80020022
Burning disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed.
It's self explanatory I know, but what am I supposed to do about it? Is it a problem with my hardware?. I can't see the icon for my disc drive in Disc Utility to check it.
I've shut down and restarted, tried different DVDs, they're all DVD-R although I did try at first with a DVD +RW and hope this hasn't caused some damage.
    Hope someone can help thanks.
I'm having loads of problems creating iDVDs as well. But I think I need to resolve issues one at a time....
    Helen

Hi Helen - here are some general purpose iDVD tips that may address some of your unspecified troubles. In terms of communication troubles, could your hard drive be going to sleep, or screensaver kick in and interrupt the process?
    General tips:
Do something small first; get some experience before you need to do a big project.
Lots of memory helps; and you'll need 10-15 gigs of space on the hard drive for scratch space.
Buy good quality disks - I've seen recommendations for Maxell, Sony, TDK and a few others based on testing. I primarily use the first two and usually don't have trouble.
    Give yourself lots of time.
Turn off your screen savers and energy savers; don't let your hard drive go to sleep.
Get your computer healthy and ready for some heavy lifting. (video work could be the hardest job your computer can do) MacJanitor and Apple's DiskUtility's Repair Permissions is my routine.
Most of the time iDVD is working, it is encoding (compressing) your video to fit on the DVD. Create an image .img file (patchburn for iDVD 4 and older) and use Toast or Disk Utility to burn it to disk. Burn slow (1 or 2x) and let it cool down.
I keep my projects under 60 minutes (for highest resolution).
Try testers; you can use DVD-RW
I import into iDVD rather than export from iMovie (fewer errors).
    No other apps open.
Let it encode and burn while you go to bed; it can take awhile, esp. on older Macs. Don't quit iDVD even when the DVD is burned, until you've played the DVD in a regular player (it's much easier to burn another disk and check to see if the problem was a bad disk, than to go back through all that encoding again by quitting iDVD).

Did you by chance find out a solution with your problem?     I am having the same issue with the same drive.    I even uninstalled iTunes and completely reinstalled it.

I updated my itunes this morning, and now I keep getting an error message when trying to burn a disc. Any ideas how to resolve this?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Error 0x80020022 when trying to burn a CD.

What is this Error 0x80020022 when trying to burn a CD.

I had that error too. Many times!
I tried a lot of different CDs.
And for two times I got new superdrives (warranty).
I thought it's over now, but today it came back... :-(
So, it's definitely NOT a broken superdrive.
But while reading all the posts with the same problem I began thinking about the lens.
Maybe it's not the scratches or printings or quality of the CDs.
Maybe it's the grease spots from the fingers???
So I rubbed it clean, only touching on the very outside and tried again. It worked!
I just wanted to share this.
    Could it be so easy?

It's an error message returned by the burner. You can see the full list of these error messages here
    <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_Code_Qualifier>
It's not specific enough to pinpoint what caused it—it could be anything from a bad optical medium (CD-R) to a dusty or dying laser diode. You have to isolate the problem—use a different CD-R brand, try a different speed, use a different burn engine (eg, Burn), etc. If it occurs once or twice, randomly, it's more likely to be a bad disc. If it occurs consistently, and at the same stage of the burn process, it's more likely to be a drive or software issue.

Thanks for replying. I went to the store and bought CD's and DVD's of different brands, many of which I have used in the past. All but a couple of them worked. Maxell, Memorex, Verbatim and Sony did not work.
After several long discussions with AppleCare and some tests, they finally determined that the Superdrive needs to be replaced. So, I'm off to the Apple Store.
    Thanks again!

    Hello, cinemann,
    Welcome to the discussions.
+Can you help me?+ Maybe....probably....but you need to give more information about your project.
What are you trying to burn? Movies, photos? From where? iMovie, iPhoto? What versions are you using?
What exactly is the error message? At what point do you get the error message?
What is the 'path' that you checked?
What OS are you using? How much free drive space?
Once you provide more specific information, we can address your problems.

  • Get "error 4300" when trying to burn a playlist cd

All at once I am getting this error when trying to burn a cd in iTunes.  Sometimes it will burn one song and then again it won't.

    Hello aleahcim915,
I was looking through our resources for troubleshooting cd burning errors in iTunes for Windows, and came across some great information for you. I would first recommend you use this article named iTunes for Windows: Additional troubleshooting tips for burning issues found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1374.
Start here, and work your way down:
    Resolution
If after following the instructions in this document you still can't read or burn discs, try the following:
    Try other software
Open a different music player, such as Windows Media Player, and test if it can play a CD you've burned.
Open the CD burning software that came with your computer or disc drive, and test to see if it can burn a CD.
If you're not able to read or burn discs using other software, there may be a more general issue with your computer or the drive. You should probably contact your computer or drive manufacturer for help. In the mean time, try the tips below.
    Use good blank discs
Some brands of blank discs may work better with your drive than others. Check the disc manufacturer's website for the brand of blank discs you are using. Many brands post lists of drives that have issues burning to their discs. They may also publish tips on how to troubleshoot burning issues.
You can use the chart below as a general guideline to assess what types of CD-R media are compatible with different drive types.
If need be you can also re install iTunes, and Apple has another article that will walk you through that. For Windows 7+ and Vista, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 depending on the version you have installed.
    All the best,
    Sterling
