Error 0x80070522 at 55% while upgrading to Window 8.1 Pro

I am trying to upgrade from Window 8 to 8.1 since 11 Nov. I have attempted all the suggestion found in this forum and also sought HP assistance but the problem is yet to be solved. The upgrade fails at 55% (i.e that is after compatibility check) and returns
error code 0x80070522.
I did post my problem in another thread but was suggested to start a new thread. \
Thanks.

Hi,
The error(0x80042565 VDS_E_INVALID_PARTITION_TYPE) means that the specified partition type is not valid for this operation.
I suggest you backup all your file firstly.
Meanwhile, please perform the following steps to repair the  partition.

  • T540p-Fan Behavior after upgrading to Windows 8.1 pro

Hi, i recently upgraded my T540p with an samsung evo 500gb ssd and installed windows 8 pro. I then upgraded to Windows 8.1 pro. My system runs smoothly and i am fairly happy with it. The only thing i have notised is that the fan kicks in every now and then. I have observed that the fan kicks in when the temp of the cpu reaches around 50 degrees celcious. This is a new laptop so the air vents are clean, and i am always using it on a desk. The fan produces a quite audible noise level and i guess it is spinning at higher revs when this happens. When the temp drops below 50 degrees i cant  hear it at all. Has anyone else observed similar behaviour on their laptops?

Thank you too :-) I think we are not the only people who have this problem. Some other Germans have told about this problem too (http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/172112-T540P-L%C3%BCfter).
Meanwihle, I have tested for this issue on Windows 7 x64. It’s the same behaviour. Same lower RPM after-sleep-bug (1600 RPM instead of 2000 RPM, Fan does not turn off any more).
I have taken the measurements from TPFanControl (http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html) and my ears ofc. Just used it with BIOS Fan Control (no custom fan control).
    Please Lenovo, help!
Edit: Now tested at Ubuntu 14.10 Linux – same issue. Seems to be system independent. Must be a controller issue :-(

  • Problems connecting to the internet after Upgrade from windows 8.1 pro

Cant connect to the internet after upgrading to windows 8.1 pro, what can i do to rectify this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can also try to install the older version in compatible mode:
Windows 8.1 Wifi showing "limited" or "No Internet Access"
Solution: revert your network adapter driver back to an older version
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/dennis_schnell/archive/2013/08/31/windows-8-1-wifi-showing-quot-limitied-quot-or-quot-no-internet-access-quot.aspx
In addition, disable power management on your network driver:
    Open Network and Sharing Center.
Click the Change adapter settings link in the upper left of the navigation pane.
Right click the network connection you want to enable/disable power management support on and click Properties .
    Click Configure .
On the Power Management tab, clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
If the issue still persists, please upload the event log for our research:

  • NO SSD Hardware but getting Event ID: 257 Error 0x80070057 on new Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro

    Hi Folks
I am getting this error after upgrading to W 8.1 Pro from W 8.0 on TWO different partitions on a 2 TB HDD that has THREE partitions. The third one, I just reimaged it for a W 8.1 Pro Lab, OPTIMIZED OKAY. My other 1 TB HDD drive with 2 partition optimized fine.
At the present time, the only Flash Drives I have are Thumb Drives (Jump Drives) which are NOT "check off" for optimization.
I DO NOT have any SSD's!!!
Thank You for your attention to this issue,

    Hi Alex,
I have done the 3 partitions on the 2 TB HDD.  Drive F appears to have had  no problems in either Analysis or Defrag AND did not have any problems in the GUI run neither!!!

  • Notebook overheating while upgrading to Windows 10

I got the notification to upgrade my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits to Windows 10. When I start it, it prepares the installation, resets, and boots into the Windows 10 installation screen. This is where things go wild. The fan start spinning in a absurd speed, and after a few minutes the notebook shuts down. When I touched the keyboard, it was really hot - surprised it didn't melt. I turned it back on, it said "Restoring Windows 7", the fan starts spinning again, and once more the notebook shuts down due to overheat. Even after two forced shutdowns, my files were intact and the system wasn't corrupted for some reason, but it went back to Windows 7.
The fans are clean and I even suspended the notebook to allow the air flow beneath it. It didn't help. All drivers and BIOS are up to date too. This model overheats since the day I bought it, I was stupid not to ask for a refund and now it's too late. I want to upgrade to Windows 10, but I'm really affraid to corrupt my system in one of those overheating shutdowns. It's ridiculous that I can't perform a simple OS upgrade due to hardware's fault.
The model is a HP Pavillion g4-2119br, with an AMD A10-4600M CPU and AMD Radeon HD 7660G graphic card.
Is there anything I can do to fix that?
    Thanks!

I have had exactly the same issue.  I had to do a factory reset, then I tried upgrading again with a clean system. Exactly the same thing happened.

  • Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 and it killed all my 3rd party drivers

Hoping someone can help - my PC upgraded Windows 8.1 Pro (fresh install a few months ago) with the 'Update 1 patch' which was made available a few days ago.  It was done via Windows Update - I let it do its thing for about 15 minutes, restart etc.
Once the machine restarted, I noticed the following:
    - no network connection
    - no sound
    - no working camera
I went to the device manager and see a stack of 3rd-party devices with exclamation marks, all stating code 28 (the drivers for this device are not installed).  I go to each device and try to update the drivers - it looks like its going to work and then
gives the error "The system cannot find the file specified".
I do some googling and find the setupapi.dev.log.  The log for every device with a problem reads like this:

It seems like 'update 1' as crapped all over my driver store.
What can I do to fix this - I have tried a raft of things such as pnputil commands to add the driver INFs manually (they fail saying 'element not found'), but still I am stuck without sound, network and camera.
This will be the last time I let Microsoft update automatically install - it will now be 100% manual, and done after a few weeks to ensure there aren't bugs.

Last night I received the Windows 8.1 update and it has caused Remote Server Administration Tools to stop working. I tried to reinstall the tools using Windows8.1-KB2693643-x64.msu but get the following error:

I did have the Remote Server Administration Tools installed previously when I was running windows 8 pro and everything was fine. I've tried to remove the older version but according to the below it isn't even installed and Remote Server Administration
Tools doesn't appear in Turn Windows features on or off.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated, if you need any further information please let me know.
    Thanks

    SeniorInternet,
I’ve seen this issue in the past and it occurred because the file was corrupted.
It’s possible that something went wrong when downloading it originally on your newly upgraded machine.
    Try downloading
KB2693643 again from another machine and install it.
    Hope this helps!

The same way that you would on a physical machine - select shutdown, not logoff.
The other option is to do it from the Hyper-V manager. Turn off is like holding the power button on a physical machine - it just powers off. Save puts the vm in a saved state which is quick to restart. Shut Down does a system shutdown of the vm, and
requires a reboot when you start it next time.

  • Cant't use scanner after upgrading to Windows 8.1 Pro

I recently bought a new laptop that came with Windows 8.1 Pro.  I downloaded and installed the print drivers for my Laserjet 3055 and the printer works fine.  Windows Fax and Scan can not see the scanner.  I also installed the Printer and Scanner doctor and followed those direction.  It still does not see the scanner.  What now?

    Hello theow,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the touch screen on your notebook is not detected after updating to Windows 8.1.
This would be the best place to start: Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues in Windows 8. This is a great document that covers touchscreen issues from start to finish. Do not be alarmed that it states the document pertains to TouchSmart PC's, as the steps are the same.
It would also help to know which product you are using so I can give you more detailed information, such as driver downloads.
For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

  • Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro

I have a key to Windows 8.1 Pro version, how can i use it and run the Pro version instead of Windows 8.1 with bing.
I would be happy to format my encore 2 and install new Win 8.1 Pro.

This is how you would do it on an ordinary Windows 8.1 computer. Don't know about tablets.
    - Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and tap Search.
    - Enter add features in the search box, and then tap Settings.
-Tap Add features to Windows 8.1 and tap I already have a product key.
    - Follow instructions..
Please let us know if it works.
I would be happy to format my encore 2 and install new Win 8.1 Pro.
Windows 8.1 core mostly contains Pro. So it's mainly a matter of unlocking the features.

  • Sorry, this update isn't available for your PC" while upgrading to Windows 8.1from 8

    Hi,
I have been encounting this problem from the time i tried to upgrade my laptop or at the time 8.1 was launched .
I never reinstalled the operating system it is the way it came preinstalled by HP, windows is also 100% updated at the time of posting.
Product name: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC
    Serial number: [Personal Information Removed]
    Product number: E3B56PA#ACJ
    Windows 8 Single Language 64-bit
Now the problem : When i click Upgrade to 8.1 on the Microsoft site it takes me to the Store where i get the below message.
I contacted Microsoft Support and with the help of Logmein they took control of my PC and after the check conformed this is a problem of Volume Licensing .
Now i would like to know how to get this problem solved as this was HP's fault and not mine .

I would like to help you, but comments like "Iam sorry to say but its of no use.." without specifics and detailing what you have checked are not helpful.
You have to be communicatively proactive and helpful for this to be a succesful and two-way troubleshooting event.
Have you looked to verify that the updates required to enable an update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 are present in your operating system?
Others have faced this issue. They have gotten past it  and updated to Windows 8 by verifying and updating their Windows 8 OS, as decribed in the Microsoft  article.  I had the same issue with one of my laptops.
I also notice that the browser tool that the lithium forum uses has detected that you are using Windows 8.1. Is this the same notebook with Windows 8 you are asking for help with?

    ANY SOLUTION MR MICROSOFT?
    1. Lodged problem with MS, but bo reply for 5 days
    2. Started reading posts on net - some about mouse behaviour got my attention
    3. Downloaded and installed latest drivers for Microsort mouse
    4. Unpluged 'old' mouse and plugged in new mouse(the same model
    5. Problem solved - no more problems with focus
    6. Conclusion - could ba a problem with Windows upgrade - mouse locked?

For this problem, May be we can check Event Viewer if it identify the problem.
In addition, try to make a clean boot or boot into Safe Mode to test whether this problem caused by 3rd problem, service or driver.
