  • Windows 8.1 Fails to Boot Error 0xc000000f

My friend's notebook developed an error message on booting after less than a week's usage. The error reads:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Ti fix the problem:
    1. Insert Windows installation disk and restart your computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click "next".
    3. Click Repair your computer"
If you do not have your system disk contact your administrator
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Sastus: 0xc000000f
Info: An error ocurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
My friend tells me that there were no external devices attached to the notebook and he was working on Excel at the time. Windows updates were being installed and the notebook run out of battery and turned off. On restarting the computer, he got the error above.
    System information:
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210U CPU @ 1.70GHz
    Current processor speed: 1700 MHz
    Memory size: 8192MG RAM
    BIOS date: 09/20/2014
    Bios Revision: M74 Ver 01.05
I have the operating system DVD but when I select to boot from it, I get the saem error. I have tried the application and driver recovery DVD but that takes me straight into the restore to factory settings menu (I get no option to repair). I have tried running system diagnostics (Quick test). It starts with the battery and after about 10 seconds goes back to the previous menu. On looking at the logs, it says that the diagnistic was cancelled but certainly not by me. I managed to run individual tests on componenents such as the battery, processor and hard drive and they all passed.
How can we try to repair Windows rather than re-image?
    This question was solved.

If you create a USB or Windows 8.1 installer you should be able to access the advanced recovery options that will allow you to use Safe Mode. If you are able to boot into Safe mode then using system recovery may very well be the answer to the BCD store issue that you are facing.
Follow the instructions at the following third party website to create a usb Windows 8.1 installer by using a generic Windows 8.1 key and use it to access the Windows environment.

My recovery was working fine while ago. But after installing win7 32bit using recovery partition using F11, updating to Win 7 SP1 and deleting some personal files inside D partiiton, now 1.  getting error code 0xc000000f on booting to F11 recovery.2. My win7 OS is working fine. Also now created USB recovery drive using HP flash recovery win7 , booting into it gives same error code 0xc000000f 3. Then using win 7 DVD, tried repairingBootrec.exe

    attrib bcd -s -h -r
    ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
    bootrec /RebuildBcd

  • Pavilion g6 Laptop Windows 8 Error 0xc000000f

Laptop product number C1Y93EA#ABU using windows 8
Clapton froze and had to be turned off. On restarting either the laptop would say that it had failed to start correctly and needed to restart upon which it would immediately switch off and start again, or would start but the screen remain blank. Occasionally the Recovery page would appear with the error message 0xc000000f. On pressing F8 the startup setting screen would appear, but when start in safe mode was selected the laptop would immediately close down and restart with a blank screen. On pressing F2 at start up I performed a system test which highlighted error UBUE01-6HU74G-MFPX1F-60X103. I do not possess a DVD or USB backup for Windows 8
This has occurred roughly one week after installing the windows 8.1 update, but the laptop had been working normally after installation.
Can anyone offer any help or advice?

The above failure error code referred to a Hard Drive short DST test.

  • Help! Error 0xc000000f after changing the hard drive!

Please help. I have gone through this entire forum and NOTHING is working for me. My HP G42-303DX Notebook is only a few years old. I accidentally dropped it and apparently the harddrive broke. I purchased a new one and installed it. Forgetting that I received NO back-up or recovery discs,  I purchased the ones from the HP website. As soon as I got them, I installed it. After all recovery discs were installed I got the following error:
    ==============================================================================
    Boot Manager:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
    3.Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
    ===============================================================================
I have done ALL the testing and everything comes out as "passed". I decided to remove the final disc, but then I noticed that my notebook was not ejecting the disc. Also, I cannot boot from the disc drive. I have reset my computer hundreds of times and it will not eject it. I have pressed F10 as per the other sites, changed the boot order etc etc and I still get the same error (above) and the disc drive will not open and/or will not be recognized by the notebook.
Stupid question to all the experts out there, but I thought the recovery discs included windows? Yes or no?
Any help you guys can give me I would greatly appreciate it. I am desperate. Again, I have read forum after form and I still cannot fix this. My work is very strict and have blocked numerous websites, even some to pay my utility bills on. But my work computer is the only computer I have access to.
Please help!!! I really don't want to resort to going to a tech company to get my laptop fixed.

    Hello sincityjenn,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're trying to get your Notebook up and running after replacing the harddrive and are running into an error. I will try to help you with this.
I would like you to read over this document: Looking for HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive?
This statement at the start of the document should asnwer a question you had "An HP recovery solution can be used to return a computer's software configuration to its original condition". This imply's that you already have the OS on the computer.
What you would need is an installation disk for Windows, and to actually re-install the OS. If that doesn't work then you may actually wanna call support and run the situation by them to see what options are availible to you.

i create a WDS server with a boot.wim and a Ghost Solution Suite Server 2.5 with images of R61 & X61s on the same server 2003.
i start my R61, boot on the F12, start WinPE, install the ghost image through the network, reboot the notebook and vista run normally, good.
i start my X61s, boot on the F12, start WinPE, install the ghost image through the network, reboot the notebooks and i have a BOSD, a reboot, and this message : Windows\System32\winload.exe is crupt or missing, Status error : 0xc000000f.
i try to repair with the vista dvd, bcdedit, /fixboot, /fixmbr, /rebuildbcd,... : same error
i try with a new ghost image, same BOSD and error
i try to install the ghost image since a USB hard disk, same BOSD and error

    thanks for your response.
i have to do a deployment with 200 notebooks for a Business School.
the administrator of the Business School use a Vista Business OEM version for all the notebooks, R61 and X61s.
they give to me a R61 and a x61s with Vista and a lot of softs installed.
my job is to clone this two models and deploy the ghost image on the 198 others R61 and X61s :]
on the disk there is two partitions : in first one IBM partition hidden, in second one Vista partition.
i clone the entire disk of R61 with ghost solution suite 2.5 and my clone works perfectly with the R61.
i clone the entire disk of X61s with ghost solution suite 2.5 and my clone give me a BSOD and a reboot.
    have you an idea ?
    thanks

I get error 0xc000000f when restarting and if i try the recovery disk i get error error: 10-FC12-0241
operating system is vista business and laptop is toshiba L300 PSLB1A - 02S008

    Hi
You mean you cannot boot the notebook using the Toshiba Recovery disk which you have created?
Go to the BIOS and check if the CD/DVD drive is recognized. It should be listed on the first BIOS page.
If the CD/DVD drive is not listed then you should set the SATA mode to compatible and should save the changes.
After that try to boot again from the Recovery disk.
    I also searched on the Toshiba European driver page for some info and found some details;
There is a firmware update for CD/DVD drive TS-L633A and TS-L633P.
This Firmware solve "Sometime not able to writing on DVD+R media".
The issue happens only DVD+R media, other kind of media have no problem.

  • HP G60 Vista Home won't boot. 2 different errors.

hello everyone, first post here, hope i can get some help.  I have seen similar postings for my errors, but never both together. i get two different errors when trying to boot, and i'm trying to find out if anything can be done with this machine.
Again, HP G60 with Vista Home installed. The power cord was unplugged and the computer shut down incorrectly. When i plugged it back in, and then tried to turn it on,  it gets to the boot screen and then gives this error:
0xc000000f -- The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
It gives two options, to start windows normally, or to use the boot disk (recommended), which i don't have (i made one years ago when i first go the machine, but have since lost/misplaced it). If i try and start normally it will fail again and it gives the below error:
    File: \Windows\system32\config\system
    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt.
    I have tried the following:
Rebooted, In the Bios screen reset setting to default values. Boot menu shows HD is there. I pressed F8 to get to the Advanced menu screen, and tried literally all the options (repair, system restore, debugging mode, safe mode, safe mode command prompt, not in that order, but after the standard stuff was getting nowhere i just tried them all) in hopes of getting something to work, but to no avail. Every time it goes to restart and then back to the error messages. Doesn't even get to the Windows loading screen.
I tried to boot Linux distro from a DVD, to see if i can then get to the system files on the main drive. but even after putting the Bios boot order to CD/DVD first, nothing happens, or boot options from the Esc menu when first starting the machine, still nothing happens. Again, in hopes of something different happening, I tried all the options in the Esc menu (the one with like 5 options, including getting to the Bios menu), but other than being able to get to bios menu, nothing else happens.
Basically, whatever option i try in the boot screens advanced options, or Esc menu options when first booting, results in the error, i can't get anywhere past the boot screen.
    Additional Information:
In the past there was a version of Linux Ubuntu on the machine, which has since been deleted and the partition restored to the main drive, however , i never removed the boot screen OS selection, so it always gets to the selection screen asking to boot vista or Ubuntu. Selecting Vista will give the error, Ubuntu will of course do nothing because it doesn't exist, but not sure if this is causing an issue when rebooting for repair.
Sequence of Screens after powere up:
HP screen that you can choose Esc menu from
OS Selection screen, F8 will bring you to Advanced options.
After choosing Vista, error: 0xc000000f -- The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
After choosing any option, error: 0xc00000e9 windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing.
At this point i'm willing to forgo the files that are on the machine, if i can recover them it would be a bonus. Any ideas would be great. would a boot disk even work if it won't boot the linux distro? is there a way to do  a system recovery if the one in the advanced options is not working and giving the same error?

Yo! I have found the solution!
Listen, in advance sorry for my bad english!
If you have Windows 7 CD or USB put it in an boot inside.
Then, first step about language click next
Then, click on repair and wait
Then, unmark Windows 7 (if you dont do this it will scan and try to repair but we dont want that) and click next
Then, click on Command Promt, when command promt is open type next :
(In my case the usb was X:\, and the system partition was C:\, so i will explain for my case)
    1. Navigate to X:\Windows\System32\ (you type X:\cd Windows bla bla, i hope that you know the basics in Command Prompt)
    2. When you are in X:\Windows\System32\ type COPY config C:\Windows\System32
3.Restart computer and hit enter on start windows normaly
You dont need to install windows again
I hope i helped you and that you did understand me
