  • -36 errors, can't copy files in finder or backup to tape drive

Does anyone know what causes -36 errors and how we can eliminate them? We need to backup our files, but have been unable to do so due to -36 I/O errors in Retrospect. Files on which this error is reported by Retrospect will not copy in the finder, either. I think our hard drive may be bad. How can we recover our files if they cannot be backed-up or copied?
We recently purchased a tape drive for backup, an Exabyte VXA-2 FireWire Tape Drive. We are using VXA-2 V23 (230m) 80GB/160/GB Data Cartridges. I have verified that this drive is supported by Retrospect and that we have the correct tape cartridge. We are backing up one partition of a hard drive that is divided into two partitions. One is the start-up partition, the other is a partition on which we store customer files. We are backing up the partition that stores customer files. The tape drive is attached to and backing up a Macintosh G3 that was recently upgraded from system 9 to OS X 10.3.9 (Panther). The hard drive was not re-formatted before OS X was installed. I have downloaded updates and updated our Retrospect to the latest Retrospect version 6.1.126. I keep getting read errors when trying to backup the customer files partition, although I have ran every good repair program I know of to that partition — TechTool, Disk Warrior and Disk Utility. The tests all say the drive is OK. The only test I have not done recently is a surface scan, as this is an over-night procedure, but plan to do it this evening. A surface scan was done at the beginning of January, but we have continued to have problems. Yesterday morning I ran Disk Utility and it verified that the partition was okay.
I am fairly certain the problem is not with the tape drive, as a test backup up of some of the problem customer files to a file backup on the startup drive also produced many -36 errors. Also the tape drive worked on another Mac with no -36 errors.
The following is an excerpt from the log of last night's backup when the program was backing up (this is a very small portion of the whole log, there was a very long list of files it reported read errors on) Following this excerpt is also an excerpt of errors reported while the program was trying to verify the backup:

The only suggestion I have come across is to copy the files to another drive, but this is impossible because the problem files cannot be copied. If anyone has any other suggestion for fixing this, I would appreciate any input. Thanks.
Mac G3 Blue & White 300 mhz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Original hard drive replaced with a 120 GB Maxtor 6Y120P0

Tech Tool, Disk Warrior, and Disk Utility all work to make sure the directory is Okay. They do not read every block.
I think you should do the surface scan you spoke of. What program do you use for this?
If you cannot copy a file in the Finder without an I/O error, the file is damaged or the drive had bad blocks.
Be sure you also downloaded the drivers module when you updated retrospect.

  • Error in writing to file

    Hai,
I am installing Oracle9.2.0 on my RH8.0 system. I got an error like this after running runInstaller: Error in writing to file: .../oracle/jre/1.3.1/bin/i386/native_threads/java
Someone know a solution for this ?
    thx
    ramesh

Your error has been completely addressed here http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.html. This is very informative. You may want to check this out before proceeding. The straight solution to this is when this error shows up, leave it open, find the native_threads/java file from the CD to the directory Oracle is asking for this. I had this problem and it turned out when I extracted and burnt it to a CD, it didn't copy the native_threads directory and others, so you want to check this as well.

  • I am getting error while creating Control file for a fla file upoad in HANA

    Hi Experts,
I am getting the following error when I try to create crtrol file for a flat file extraction in SAP HANA.
Could not execute 'import data into table P935718."COPATBL" from 'COPATBL.csv' record delimited by '\n' fields ...'
SAP DBTech JDBC: [257] (at 14): sql syntax error: incorrect syntax near "into": line 2 col 1 (at pos 14)
Here is the code I have used to create control file after I creating the table.
    import data
    into table P935718."COPATBL"
    from 'COPATBL.csv'
        record delimited by '\n'
        fields delimited by ','
        optionally enclosed by '"'
    error log 'P935718.COPATBL.err'
p935718 is my user ID, COPATBL is my table created, COPABL.CSV is a flat file.
Please help me in this regard.
    Thanks,
    Guna

    Hello,
guessing from the error message it looks that you are trying to execute "import data" as SQL command.
Please note that import data is NOT SQL command but it is syntax for control file. You need to create file with this syntax on server and then use command: IMPORT FROM '/<path>/<filename>.ctl'
    In a shortcut:
1.- create comma separated CSV file with your data - <source cvs>.csv
2.- upload CVS file to HANA server
3.- create the control file <filename>.ctl:
    import data
    into table <schema>."<table name>"
    from '<source cvs>.csv'
    record delimited by '
    fields delimited by ','
    optionally enclosed by '"'
    error log '<file name>.err'
    4.- execute command:
    IMPORT FROM '/<path>/<filename>.ctl'
    Please check following threads:
How to load CSV files into HANA
    Will HANA supports Bulkload

  • Error in writing to file.................................... Oracle9iV2 on RedHat7.3

What is causing the failure of the Oracle JDBC Development Drivers component during the Oracle9i installation, I'm getting the
Error in writing to file classes111_g.jar
If I skip this component then it keep on listing other files including a file.PDF file and I checked all the permissions so it is not a file permission error.
Could someone list the steps they took to set up JAVA on their Linux box and then what you had to add exactly to your ".bash_profile"
Perhaps this is what I'm doing wrong.
    Thnx.

thanks anyway for taking the pain to reply.
u needn't have replied if it was bugging u so.
Maybe the zip file isn't at that location. Maybe it
didn't get completely downloaded. Maybe downloading it
puts permissions on it that don't allow you to open
    it. Maybe it's password-protected. Maybe half-a-dozen
things I haven't thought of yet. Did you check any of
those obvious things? Can you open the file yourself
    with a zip utility?

This message will be issued if files necessary for installation are not found once the self-extracting executable extracts its content. If you successfully used same distribution file to install on another machine, it is very likely that the distribution file got corrupted while being moved from one system to another.
If you use ftp to transfer files between systems, make sure that you transfer file in binary mode.
If you don't have the original distribution file anymore, you might need to download the distribution again.

Just 2 things in my test:
    1) I use no accept attribute. Coldfusion is then free to upload any extenstion.

    Hi sekhar,
You can try this. you right click on the datasource and click on display in source system it takes you to the R/3 system enter the user id and password so u can now see the datasource in the R/3 so now click on back f3 so now u vl be in BI now replicate the datasource and try to load the data. I think now it should work fine.

  • How to use 'flat file extraction' option in Infospoke

    Hello Gurus,
We are trying to extract the BW data using Infospoke to a 3rd party ETL tool (Datastage). Now in the current BW 3.5 release, the customer is on SP11 and we are not able to extract any data using a 3rd party system option in Infospoke. Due to the fact, we found out from SAP, that since we are getting an error (3rd party system is not set)in infospoke, we have to upgrade the SP level from 11 to either 16 or 17. The customer that we are dealing with is not going to do that until July - 2007.
So now we have a second option to load the 'flat file' in BW App. server and FTP to Datastage. Is this something workable option?
When using that option within Infospoke destination Tab, we can see two options. One is to use File option and load the data within the standard DIR HOME. I tried that but I can't see the file and the entire data within the standard directory. Can anyone explain why and what will be the procedure to follow?
The second option is to use Logical file. I never done that before. Can anyone explain step by step process or provide the detail document and/or link?
Since we are at the critical timeframe stage, I would appreciate if I can get the faster response from the Gurus.
I will make sure to give 'reward points' to each and every helpful answer(s).
    thanks in advance,
    Maulesh

    Hi shashi,
first, let me clarify one thing here! I am not saying '3rd party tool' as an option in infospoke. I know Infospoke provides only two options (DB table, and file). But when you use DB table option, you check mark on 3rd party destination and that's where you define an RFC destination for 3rd party tool. So when you execute an infospoke, it will start extracting data and load into the defined destination. Since we are on SP11 on BW 3.5 release, we are getting an error while executing an Infospoke using 'DB table option'. The error is like '3rd party destination is not set'. When I went to Marketplace and found an OSS note, I found out that we need an upgrade on SP level (upto 17).
As I mentioned earlier, the client doesn't want to upgrade until next year, and we are at the critical timeframe stage, where we have to make a decision whether we hold this project until the SP upgrade happens or found alternate approach where we can extract the data from BW (somehow) and load into Teradata database via Datastage - BW Pack (3rd party ETL).
So we might be able to use the second option in Infospoke destination, which is to use 'Flat file' load.
Now when I use File option with App. server checked, the data loads into default Server and directory on BW. Which is DIR_HOME. I can see those file extracted and loaded into that directory under the transaction AL11. But I can't see any data. Do you think I have to request for an increase in size limit? If I see all the data, how can I FTP from the BW server? Do I have to work with SAP Basis or create a UNIX script?
When I use Logical file name, I guess I have to follow what you have described on your response, correct? Can i use an existing Logical path and file name? Do you have a 'How to' document on creating YEAR and PER FM? Is it possible that Basis can do this work for us? What happens after we assign a logical Path and logical file name into the destination tab on Infospoke? What is the use of logical file versus file? Overall, I am looking for a process from extracting the data from Infospoke using either file or logical file, all the way to load into 3rd party database.
      looking forward for your response!
    thanks,
    Maulesh

  • ERROR Registering: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\AccessibleMarshal.dll and failure to install

I downloaded and extracted the latest ESR file (Version 10.0.7) this morning. Running SETUP.EXE with no command line switches fails to install Firefox. Ths installation log indicates that the installation has taken 1 second to complete execution. In the Installation log I see the following:
    DLL Registration
    ** ERROR Registering: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\AccessibleMarshal.dll **
In the C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox folder there is an uninstall folder as well as an install.log file. No other files or folders exist. Mozilla Firefox does appear in the Programs and Features but shows an icon associated with an unknown application.
I am logged in with a low-rights account but running the SETUP.EXE executable from an elevated command prompt. This should be sufficient to elevate the DLL registration.
Running on Windows 7 SP1 with all applicable updates. I've noticed several other people that have experienced this issue but nobody has a solution.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
    *C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x ESR: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
