"Error #-1 was reported..." No disk image created

I created a new project, using the iDVD 4.0 movie projector theme. I dropped a 75 minute movie onto the theme that I created in Final Cut Pro and exported as a self contained movie. It has chapters and there are 5 pages of scene selection submenus. I put a :30 clip into the drop zone in the main menu and each of the submenu pages. I changed the default font to American Typewriter, and its color to white instead of the default color. All seemed well.
I chose Save as Disk Image and let it rip. I checked on it occasionally, and it seemed to be burning right along; I could see the footage passing in the burn window. At the end of the ordeal, I got a message that "Error #-1 was reported...", and I have no disk image and no encoded assets.
What's up with that? I had saved an almost identical project as a disk image a couple of days ago, and have used the same two movies for this one. The differences are that I made a couple of fixes in the movie, and that I exported as self contained instead of reference movie.
I have been using iDVD 5 since it came out, and had very good luck. But this project is giving me a headache. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
BC

To follow up on this, I found that by switching to a completely different theme, my error message did not recur. So then I went back to my original theme (the movie projector) and did a test with a short clip, and I did not get the error.
I did the test on the movie projector theme without changing anything about it; when I first did the project that generated the error, I had made changes to the font, position and color of the theme, and I had five pages of scene selection submenus. It's possible that something I edited didn't agree with iDVD, and I got my error.
But it was INFURIATING to wait six hours for a disc image to burn, only to find that it didn't work. In the end, I decided to go without a menu and have an autoplay DVD. I used a method I found here in the discussions:
http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/nothemedvd
I used the one labeled the hard way. It worked great!

  • The error #-2147352543 was reported- when burning from iDVD

I created a DVD project in iDVD and used Share to use iDVD. When I click the burn button I get this error: "The error #-2147352543 was reported…" I clicked on the map and there are no error triangles. The error appears almost immediately. My iDVD software is up to date. I was able to burn a short DVD a few days ago without problems.
    Please help.

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Error #3452 was reported?

    Folks,
I have created a slideshow in iMovie and then exported to iDVD to make menus and then burn. When burning, it goes almost all the way through the encoding process and I get an error message that says, "Disc burning finished, there were errors while attemping to burn the disc." Below it says, "Error #3452 was reported."
This is all that I get - any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe B

    Hey Joe,
did you try creating a disk image? This procedure usually works better than burning directly from iDVD. Also: iDVD likes to have the project(s) on your startup disc with 15 - 20 GB of available disc space
    1. iDVD is NOT a disc burning app, so leave that work to software designed for it. Instead use iDVD's "Save as Disc Image" option (File > Save as Disk image). This creates an .img file on your HDD, that can be stored for future use and gives you the option to preview your DVD on your Mac before burning to disc.
    2. Use Disc Utility or Toast to burn your DVD at slow speed. 4x is acceptable, 2x (... or even 1x) is better.
    3. Use high quality DVD-R (not DVD+R) media (e.g. Verbatim) to minimize burn errors and compatibility issues. Make sure the DVD is compatible with slow burn speed (e.g. 1x-4x)
    hope this helps

  • The error #-1 was reported...

Ok guys, can anyone help me out,
i've created my project in iDVD 5, it's small enough to fit onto a DVD, but when I try to burn it to disc or to disc image, it goes all through the processes
of encoding slideshow, encoding video, but when it reaches the end of this process i get the following message appear
"Errors found during the burning process"
    "The error #-1 was reported..."
And it doesn't create a disc image of my file.
Can anyone please help me and let me know what this error could possibly relate to. I'm starting to pull my hair out now.

    Hi D
    Sue is most certainly right.
But if I was You I would check each movie that You dropped/imported to
Your DVD project. I got this error when adding sound to one movie and
this sound file (.aiff) was way to large compared to my movie. Say 15 min
movie and a more than 60 min sound-file of which I needed about 15 sec.
So I cut in the sound track the first part and the last part - deleting those
and keeping the middle part. This resulted in that iMovie thought that there
was remaing sound way outside the timeline on the right end - non reachable.
    When making a DVD = -1#Error
Deleting the soundtrack - OK DVD
Importing new sound but in a more fitting size. - DVD OK

  • IDVD 4 Error Message: The error #-1 was reported-

I am an old hand at making and burning DVDs. I've converted VHS tapes onto almost 600 DVDs. Recently I upgraded from OS 10.2.8 to 10.5.1. In the process I messed up and had to reinstall OS 10.2.8 on a different internal drive. Since then I have not been able to burn any DVDs. My latest try ended with, Errors were found in the burning process The error #-1 was reported…
I've been searching the web for an hour looking for a list of error (I assume iDVD errors) with no luck. I found a programmers page -- NO VALUE. On this massive web someone must have an error code list that tells me what to do.
Like: Error #1, Bad Media Error #2, Lost sync try again Error #-1, tough luck start from scratch
Does anyone know of such a list?

    Hi
MAIN GUESS: iDVD 4 and Mac OS X.5.x *DOESN'T match at all* CAN'T be solved.
    *Previous versions of Mac OS:*
    ERROR #-1
Just having burning problems in iDVD that resulted in Error #-1 which I have found originates in iMovie.
This was due to problems with iMovie and sound tracks.
    - In my case there were sounds that hid fare away outside
the sound tracks. When deleting all sounds the DVD burned OK
Restoring the sound track one at a time and with special observations to
the fact that no sound reached outside the right end of the
sound tracks (Invisible and impossibly to mark to delete). It at
last made a perfect DVD disk.
This problem is rather tricky to get hold of be cause I couldn't
see the sound files how much I enlarged the sound tracks.
    a) empty the sound tracks
    b) re-insert the sounds one at a time.

*When not knowing what to do.*
There are a set of things to test:
    1. Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk: It should have 25Gb or more. This is especially important when running iDVD.
iDVD can’t address any other hard disk as scratch-disk so space is of uttermost importance.
    2. The Hard disk is untidy:
Repair Permissions (Apple Disc Util tool) - Run this
Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool) - To run this You need to start from a CD/DVD or external hard disk.
    3. Delete iDVD pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and have a re-try
    4. Let Your Mac turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help.
    5. Program miss-match:
iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.3.9 AND QuickTime 6.5.2 - is OK
iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4 - is OK
iDVD 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4 - is OK
    6. UPDATES - is important: iLifeSupport8.1.1.dmg is important for running iLife08 bundle.
    7. iDVD (08) Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    8. Mac OS X.5 (Leopard) - at least iDVD 1 to 4 - don’t work any more
    9. Trying to collect info on. Leopard system:
iDVD08 - not working -> Should be soluble
iDVD 6 - not working -> Should be soluble
    iDVD 5 - not working -> Don’t bother - will not work
iDVD 4 or previous - not working -> Don’t bother - will not work

  • Unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Snow Leopard using Lion

Anyone else unable to unlock encrypted disk images created with Leopard and Snow Leopard with Lion?  I know that they made changes with the release of FileVault 2 on Lion and Snow Leopard cannot use Lion encrypted disks but I thought it was backwards compatible where Lion should still be able to work with Snow Leopard created images (it was in the pre-release versions of Lion).
When attempting to mount an encrypted disk image created with Snow Leopard on Lion the normal password prompt appears but then just reappears every time the password is entered and does not unlock and mount the image.  I'm positive the correct password is being entered and it works just fine when done on a machine running Snow Leopard.

Not in cases when the computer successfully boots to one OS but produces three beeps when an attempt is made to boot it to another. If it really was a RAM problem that serious, the computer wouldn't get as far as checking the OS version, and it has no problems booting Lion. In the event of a minor RAM problem, it wouldn't produce three beeps like that at all.

  • Slow data transfer on Disk images created in Mountain Lion

Hi apple community, since upgrading to OS 10.8, every blank disk image that I create using disk utility, no matter what partition setting I use, results in excrutiatingly slow data transfer speeds. I do not have this problem when I use disk images created on previous operating systems. For some reason it's taking about a minute to transfer 40mb to these folders. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

It happens with both sparsebundle and DMG, and I've tried various partition settings, including hard disk, CD/DVD, Apple partition map, as well as no partition map.

  • The error #-34506 was reported-

Has anyone seen this error? My project will get all the way through the process and say "Errors were found during the burning process" I have searched for it and found nothing. I am burning a DVD with 3 movies on it. Had no problem burning a separate 3 movies on the same disks so I think it's something in my movie files.
I found an error help topic that was close in number that talked about making sure that the scene names were in the tv safe area. So, I fixed a couple of those and it didn't help.
I have tried saving it as a disk image but it has the same problem and no image saves. I am using Maxell DVD-R disks.

    Hi
Always a good idea to use the search function in this forum:

    Welcome to the forums.
If you google that error, there seems to be a variety of solutions. I'd start with some basics to get your Mac running well.
You'll need 10-15 gigs of free space on your main hard drive for scratch space.
Buy good quality disks - I've seen recommendations for Maxell, Sony, Verbatim, TDK and a few others based on testing. I primarily use the first two and usually don't have trouble.
Turn off your screen savers and energy savers; don't let your hard drive go to sleep.
Get your computer healthy and ready for some heavy lifting. (video work could be the hardest job your computer can do) MacJanitor followed by Apple's DiskUtility's Repair Permissions is my routine.
    No other apps open.
I import into iDVD rather than share from iMovie (fewer errors). Another way to do this is Export from iMovie to Full Quality DV (Quicktime). This latter option creates a standalone version of your iMovie that you can double-check for proper functioning.

And it can't be said any better.

  • Error saving a project as disk image in iDVD '08

I don't have a Super Drive so I'm trying to save my project as a disk image so that I can create the actual DVD at work, but after an hour or more of going through the whole encoding, etc. process, it ends up giving me an error message. Does anyone have any idea why it may do this? Can't I still create a disk image without having a Super Drive?

    Hi b
To little info to give a true answer - just guessings.
    • WHAT DID the error message say ?
    • free space on Your internal (start-up) hard disk ? > 25Gb works OK
    • what kind of movie files did You import into iDVD ?
To do a DiskImage should be OK and copy to an external hard disk for burning on another
Mac with Apple Disk Util tool or Toast™ - is a way that works for many users.
    • How many minutes are Your movie/s and what menu did You select ?
    • What type of encoding did You select; Pro Quality, High Quality or Hight Performances ?
    • PAL in iMovie and in iDVD or NTSC in iMovie and in iDVD ?
I would delete iDVD pref file and
    Repair Permissions and
eventuallt start a new user/account - log into this and re-try

  • Cannot open disk image created in Snow Leopard

I created an encrypted disk image in Snow Leopard. When I'm running Mavericks, it asks for the password, then the folder doesn't appear anywhere. Disk Utility shows it as mounted, but it is not visible in the Finder or in the sidebar as a mounted volume usually is. First Aid says all is OK.Unmount with Disk Utility, then it doesn't even ask for a password when reopening is attempted. Nothing happens. What's going on?

OK... I opened iDVD, found my project, and selected 'file', 'save as disk image'. The disk image was created (took almost 3 hours this way!). now, when i open disk utility, i can see the image there. i placed a blank DVD in the computer, selected the image in disk utility and clicked 'burn'. when i placed the burned DVD in my DVD player, it says it cannot read the disk! my understanding is that creating a disk image is the smart way to keep backup copies of my home made DVD's but if I can't burn playable replacement DVD's that obviously negates this option. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Advice above is 'spot on' : Do 'save as disk image'INSIDE iDVD. The disk image should be playable in anything which PLAYs DVD VIDEO_TS Folders: DVD Player, Mpegstreamclip, VLC.... I'm sure the only reason it took almost 3 hours this way is because iDVD Wasn't finished encoding/finalising the project....
W/O changes, subsequent Burns shd be as fast as any other DVD Burn (Altho, as I think was suggested, Burn at slow speed on slwo media is a very wise move.
CAVEAT: Burning using OTHER tools - from folder etc is not alway going to 'get everything' iDVD Changes, assets/work /temp files may be kept elsewhere.. etc etc.
INSIDE iDVD is the only safe way of 'getting it all.

  • What is this error mean?   The backup disk image "/Volumes/Data-1/James Kranz's iMac.sparsebundle" is already in use.

I'm using the newest Time Capsule  (2T) and I just got this error.
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/James Kranz’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use.
It has been running fine (so it think) since I got it a few months ago.

This is your Time Machine backup image on your Time Capsule or other networked storage device that you are using for your backups. To clear this problem, try restarting your Mac, but if that does not work then restart your backup device. Doing these should clear the process that is usiing the bundle, and allow your Mac to properly attach it for use.

  • Viewing a disk image created in iDVD6

After succesfully creating and burning a DVD project, and confirming it works on my TV/DVD player, I decided to make a disk image of the file for convenience of easily burning more copies later. The iDVD6 help page says "you can play it on your computer by double-clicking the disc image icon. You can move the disc image to another computer or hard disk, but you cannot edit it. When you're ready to burn the disc image to a DVD, use Disk Utility in Mac OS X."
I cannot play it by double-clicking (just opens folders named "AUDIO_TS" and "VIDEO_TS" wich contain files that are .ifo, .vob, etc). I used disk utility to burn a dvd from the image and it creates the same thing when read on the computer. TV/DVD player cannot read it at all.
Has anyone succesfully used the disk image feature in iDVD?
Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

    Nancy,
Welcome to the Apple Support Forums.
When you have created a disk image of a DVD on your hard drive, double-click the image file to mount the DVD on your desktop. Then, use Apple's DVD Player application (in your Applications folder) to open the VIDEO_TS folder on that mounted image for playing.
See: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006 and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42724 for information on using Disk Utility to burn the disk image to writable media.
If you don't follow the intructions properly, you will end up creating a DVD disc in the Mac OS Extended format rather than the UDF format needed to play it back on settop DVD players.
