Error 10057 / Airport Express / IP6

I had been having a nagging problem with error 10057 when Airport Express kept prompting me to upgrade firmware from 7.52 to 7.6.  I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, but finally this post helped

I don't know why, but for me, it was disabling ip6, not enabling it.  Figured I'd post this, in case others have same prolbem, as it was driving me crazy

The Windows firewall is likely blocking the connection attempt from AirPort Utility to the AirPort Express.
Check the Firewall settings in the Control Panel of the PC.
The anti-virus settings can do the same thing as well as Microsoft Security Essentials, if you are running that on your PC.
In the past, I have had to turn off both the Windows firewall and anti-virus to get the PC to connect to the AirPort Express. Once the Express has been configured, you can turn the firewall and antivirus back on.
It also may help to temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from the PC to the Express for configuration. You can disconnect the Ethernet cable once the Express is set up.

  • Error 15000 Airport Express

Hi all, I`m new on here so please bear with me.
I purchased a new apple airport  express the other day from currys, I then ordered a toslink cable from Amazon which came today to connect via optical connection.
    1)  I connected the AE to my existing network with an ethernet cable into the WAN connector/socket  - WIFI turned off on AE.
    2)  connected the 3.5 mini to optical to the CD connection on my amplifier.
    3)  connected the power
    4)  Went through the set up to connect to existing network via ethernet - I beliece this was done correctly - IP address given with  **.**.**. 37
green light on AE downstairs and on google someone said to ping the ip address, which I did and got a reply.
    5)  Itunes sees my AE in the tab next to the slider top left corner, shows computer or " dils Airport Express"  with a tick and a speaker icon.
    6)   choose some music and click play, nothin  comes back with pop up.....an error occured etc and then - unknown error occured.......(-15000 )
    7)   Airport base station agent does not have any devices showing in there. ( don`t know if it should ?)
    Windows 7 - 64 bit  Fritzbox router.
I have tried uninstalling / re- installing itunes  -  re-boots both pc and router.
Is there a "how to" for connecting AE just for itunes playback at all - or someone had the same probs who found a workaround ?
Help please, I have googled and searched everywhere and if I had any hair left I would pull it out, my last resort is to ask here otherwise its back to Currys for a refund and get one of those Lindy wifi things..
Any help or advise appreciated thank you

I receive this message "An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device" when trying to play audio from iTunes on Macbook Pro to my airport express and/or apple tv. Both airport express and apple tv work fine with my iphone and ipad as well as streaming video from itunes library to apple tv from the Macbook. • "extended network" error with airport express

i have my time capsule set up in my living room as the primary, and since there are several concrete walls in my house, i need to extend the wifi connection in order to get signal from my room which is located at the very end of my house.  I've had my airport express placed near the doorway of my room which should be getting a clear signal from time capsule in the living room.
everything works fine for few days, and the blinking amber light started going off on the airport express.  and from the airport utility it shows 1 notification on my airport express.  It said an error of "extended network", if i choose to ignore it, the indication light turns back to green, but then i wont be able to connect to the internet.
is there some kind of settings need to be adjusted?  please help~~~
    my settings on airport express:
    Router Mode: Off (Bridge Mode)
    Connect using: DHCP
    Configure IPv6: Link-Local Only

i've tried to plug the airport express literally right next to the time capsule, and it still showing the "extended network" error message.  so it can't be the signal strength issue.
    Help please....
    additonal info:
    my time capsule (primary) :
    Connect Using - DHCP
    Router Mode: DHCP and NAT
    DHCP Range: 10.0.1.2 to 10.0.1.200
    my airport express (extension) :

    IPv4 Address: 10.0.1.10
    Router Address: 10.0.1.1
    DNS Servers: 10.0.1.1

  • Error on Airport Express when using to extend Airport Extreme Base Station

I have had continual problems trying to get my Airport Express (n) to extend my Airport Extreme Base Station.  The signal it is receiving is "good".  The settings are correct (as far as I can tell) and it was working for a brief period of a month or so.
Now it is not working and I have a red 1 in a circle (like an update is needed... but it will not take me to an update) on the Sirport Express in my Airport Utility.
Under "Status", it says "Extended Network" with a green crcle, but the main circle on by the name is flashing green, and will not send a signal.
Also in "Status", it says this: "This AirPort base station was unable to extend the wireless network. Make sure the wireless network you're trying to extend was set up and is working correctly, that you entered a matching wireless network password into this device, and that this device is in range of the wireless network."
I have done all of those and yet..... STILL not working. Ugh.
    Any thoughts?  Procedures?
    Thanks in advance.

At this point, I would suggest that you perform a "factory default" reset on the AirPort Express. In its default mode, the Express will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN.
Your Mac should recognize that there is a "new" AirPort Express present. You will find this on the dropdown menu from the AirPort icon on the OS X menu bar. Select the Express from the dropdown menu and the AirPort Utility should automatically start up to allow you to configure it.

  • Can't Reconnect AirPort Express to my Network

    Hello all,
So I have somewhat of a problem here, and I'm hoping to get some input. Basically, my house is 3 stories. In the basement, we have a room with all of our networking hardware (our modem with an AirPort Extreme router). On the 2nd floor of the house, there's an AirPort Express in the kitchen. On the 3rd floor, there was an AirPort Express in my parent's room, which I just recently unplugged to move to my room (I needed an extra ethernet port source ). Anyways, in AirPort utilities, I had everything set up perfectly fine. Both AirPort Expresses were set to "Extend Network," which is how we wanted it. Now, for some reason, the AirPort Express in the kitchen got the error message "AirPort Express was previously part of your network." So, I clicked "Forget" and was just going to set it up again by selecting it from the drop-down menu and going from there. The only thing is, it's not there... I don't know how moving the Express on the 3rd floor led to this, but it did. Any ideas on how to get it back? There's all green lights across the board (AirPort Extreme in the basement, AirPort Express in the kitchen, AirPort Express in my room). The connection in the kitchen is a bit iffy, but in all other spots across the house it's 100% fine.
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the discussions!
Many schools prohibit the creation of wireless networks, so you might want to check on this before you try it.
You may want to temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AirPort Express for the configuration. After the configuration is done, connect the ethernet cable to the wall jack and the AirPort Express.
Configure your AirPort Express (AX) as follows:
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons to setup your wireless network. You want to "Create a wireless network" and enter your network name, security and password.
    Then click the Internet icon
Look for the Connection Sharing setting at the bottom of the page and set this to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Update to save changes and the AX will restart

  • How do I resolve error 10057 when trying to set up my airport express to extend the range of my wireless network

I have a Dell XPS running on Windows 7 and use an AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi to get wireless internet access for other laptops in the home. I want to connect an AirPort Express 802.11n into the network to wirelessly extend the range of my wireless network. I have installed the AirPort Utility but when I attempt to connect to the AirPort Express, it gives me an error code 10057 and says I should check the internet connection. I have tried resetting the TCP/IP settings on my PC but that did not fix the issue. The Airport Express is also flashing yellow rather than solid green. Has anyone found a fix for this issue?

This sounds as if you have an older AirPort Express that is no longer supported by the newer Mavericks operating system.
To check and see if  that might be the case, locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. It will start with an "A" followed by four numbers. Hard to see in the faint print.....so you may need reading glasses or a magnifying class to see the model number clearly.
Model numbers A1084 and A1088 of the AirPort Express are no longer supported by AirPort Utility in Mavericks.
You will need to use a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC to be able to administer the older AirPort Express.

  • Error - 6753 and 10057 when trying to setup airport express in XP

I keep having this problem when i try and use my airport express. My PC can pick up the airport but when i try and click manual setup or continue i get error -6753 or 10057.
Please can someone help me out with a step by step procedure to set an express up with Windows XP

Unfortunately, things like this can happen when you try to use current software on a 6 year old product.
The solution is exactly as the message states:
You will need to use AirPort Utility 5.6 to update the firmware on the AirPort Extreme.
AirPort Utility 5.6 can be installed on a Mac running Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or a PC. If you do not have access to one of these devices, you might be able to take the AirPort Extreme to an Apple Store to have them update the firmware for you.
Once the firmware on the AirPort Extreme has been updated......then..... it will be possible to administer the AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility 6.3.1.

  • Airport configuration error 10057 and Microsoft TCPIP reset

I was having the same persistent problem accessing my Airport Extreme router at my office using my HP Windows XP machine (one of my last non-Apple computers).  It kept returning the 10057 error when I would use the Windows-based Airport Utility.  However, I could always access via my Macs using Airport Utility.  I was reminded via another thread in these communities that sometimes you must refresh Windows' TCP/IP settings.  However, that response didn't include a link to the following Microsoft Support knowledgebase article that instructs you how to do so and also includes a downloadable application called "Microsoft Fix it 50199" that will run the scripts for you and should resolve this common error:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
Another thread also suggested the work-around of using File > Configure Other, which does work when you encounter this error.  You can then manually access the desired router.  That does not resolve the issue, though.
I also thought that the error might be related to my use of Apple's Wireless Distribution System (WDS) to connect my Airport Extreme with a remote Airport Express.  However, this problem is obviously not an Apple issue but a basic Microsoft one: corrupt TCP/IP settings.  I hope that this helps and saves others some time.

Cool, so I've had an Airport Express Gen 1 for ages. This weekend I reset it to create a wireless network to allow me to control DeeJay app on my pad and airplay the music to a pa system.
Now I came to reset and get it back on my network again I get error code 10057.
I did the factory defaults setting by holding a pen in the reset slot but even though Airport Utility scans and finds it it will still say 10057 network error when trying to configure it.
Just about to give up I thought I'd check to see if it was still producing a wifi signal as per the setup from the weekend.
On my iPhone 4 I went into the wifi settings to see if the ssid was being broadcast and it wasn't BUT underneath the list of my network and neighbours wifi was another option,
    Setup Airport Express!!
Amazing, I followed the path of questions to change it to join a network instead of create a network and all now works tickety boo!!!
I don't normally post stuff on forums but if this helps someone else by getting them to check in an apple device settings to check for the airport, it might be worth it.
    Cheers!
    Bob

I am getting, "an unexpected error occurred" during set up of a 3rd airport express.  Any ideas why or how to correct?

Are you using the IMac in your profile, or are you using the iPhone or iPad to set up the Express?
If you are using the iMac, what operating system is installed on the Mac?

  • Constant Error While Setting Up Airport Express with Existing Network

I just bought an Airport Express for use with printer and existing wireless network (two original Airport Extremes). I can't get past the error msg below*. The AE shows in Airport Utility. I click on that and then "Continue". A window appears asking if I'm sure I want to "Switch" wireless networks. I assume I do since set up doesn't continue if I select "Don't Switch". But every time I try that it shows a spinning wheel and "Joining wireless network...", and un-joins existing wireless network (losing the two AEBS's), giving me the continued error msg. And on a few occasions Airport Utility can't see it, like now.
*Error Msg: "An error occurred joining the selected wireless network."
It's been a while since I've set up Apple's wireless devices but I thought it was easier now. The manual is ambiguous with "1) Open Airport Utility, 2) Follow the onscreen instructions...". If I could only get to that. Very frustrating for a device that's suppose to be so simple to set up.

Addendum: Now that I've plugged it in near the printer again Airport Utility can see it but can't read it's configuration so that I can set up the printer. How is this helpful with setting up a printer in another room/level if you have to set it up near your computer first because the two Airport Extreme's you have already set up (one of them, to create the wireless network, 8 feet away from the Express, and the other, to extend the wireless network, on an upper level, to reach the iMac) to give your computer a wireless network? So Airport Utility can see all three airport devices, the network/internet works and is extended to my iMac, but it can't read the Express device to set up the printer. Isn't that the point of the extended wireless network? And yet I can read/set up the Extreme near the Express. Now I have to lug the printer up two levels to set up the printer.

  • Error while trying to install printer on Airport Express

    Hi,
I'm trying to install a HP Deskjet 3930 on my Macbook through the Airport Express. I'm getting an error:
An error occured while trying to add the selected printer Error:-9672
    Anyone have any ideas?

    BINGO!!
After trying every driver possible (and there were many...), I finally got my HP Deskjet 3930 to print through Bonjour. Here's how:
    1. Reset the printing system with Printer Setup Repair from fixamacsoftware.com
    2. Add a new printer with Printer Setup Utility
    3. Select the HP 3930 connected through Bonjour
    4. Instead of using the default HP driver, select the HP PSC 1110 Foomatic/hpijs driver (available at http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/)
I've tested the printer on a variety of print jobs and so far everything seems to be working smoothly. I should probably note that this driver does not grant access to the printer utilities, but at least it works.
    Hopefully someone finds this useful.

  • Unexpected error when connecting Airport Express A1264 to Airport Utility 6.3.1

My current wireless setup is and has been the following:  Phone Jack --> DSL modem ---> Airport Express via Ethernet cable
Off of that connection we've been able to wirelessly run our MacBook, Apple TV and iPhones for several years.
We recently left for vacation, so I unplugged everything (apparently a huge mistake).  When we returned from vacation, the wireless connection was intermittent and kept being dropped.
If I connect the Ethernet cable directly from the modem into my MacBook the internet works fine.
I tried refreshing the Airport Express by unplugging it and cycling it through.  It continued to drop.
By opening the Airport Utility, a firmware update was recommended.  However, since that update the Airport Express isn't detected anymore.
I tried a hard reset and Utility finds the Airport Express under "Other Wifi Devices" but then, at the end of trying to "Join the Airport Express to the Network" I get an "Unexpected Error" message.
    Airport Express Model Number: A1264
    Airport Utility: 6.3.1
    OS: 10.8.5
I am very frustrated and way out of my league here with understanding how this all works and what I can do to fix it.  If anyone has any suggestions or expertise to offer, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you for your time,
    Amanda

    Hi AMM222,
"Unexpected Error" message with Mountain Lion and AirPort Utility 6.3.x.  Hopefully this is just a matter of enabling IPv6.
AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4597
This can happen if IPv6 has been disabled. To enable IPv6 for your network interface:
Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, and then click Network.
If a lock icon appears in the lower-left corner, click it and enter your admin name and password to unlock the pane.
Click your network service (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) in the list, and then click Advanced.
    Click the TCP/IP tab.
Choose Link-local only from the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu.
    Click OK.
    Click Apply.
The AirPort device should now appear in AirPort Utility.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
