ERROR 1011 iPhone could not be restored message after 1.1.1 update
Avoid update if you can (note - you CAN'T restore without updating so don't restore unless absolutely necessary). My phone is dead. An iTunes logo and cable icon appeared on the screen; two more restore attempts to no avail. Have been on hold to advanced tech support for 21 minutes....others must be having same problem. Anyone know what to do?? Thanks!
I am having the exact same problem and tried everything from changing USB ports, restarting the Mac, and trying the update on a different computer. My phone is neither unlocked or hacked. Nothing worked so I called AppleCare and the case was escalated to a product specialist. They are sending me out a box so the phone can be repaired. I was told it would be about a 3 day turnaround from the time they received the phone. They offered a loaner phone for $29, but it wasn't going to be here until Monday, so I turned it down. I tried the SIM card from the iPhone in my old phone and it worked just fine despite what the AppleCare rep said. They didn't have me try anything over the phone to fix the problem, so I would guess they most be aware that there is a problem with this update.
It just seems strange to me that it works for some folks and not for others.

Hi iPhone experts...I need your valuable suggestion...
My iphone 4 ios7 was having an censor issue...after fixing the censor issue...It's worked only for 4 hrs....after that it's came to Restore mode.
While I am trying to restore ..throwing an error "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred(1)."
It's out of warranty.....
1.) I would like to know if there was any Mother board issues?
and also would like to know
2.) without doing anything suddently why it's went to restore mode?
3.) if that really a mother board issue, is it repairable(Location- Hyderabad-India)
Thanks in advance for your helpTry restoring it again. If it fails with the same error message, that pretty much always indicates a hardware failure. The phone will have to be replaced.

Help - Unknown Error 2006 "iPhone could not be restored"
Hi there - has anyone else been plagued with this? I tried to sync my iPhone 3G (less than a year old) and it wouldn't sync. I tried to restore it and it went partially through the process and bailed returning an error. I went to the discussion boards who recommended (not necessarily in this order) rebooting, using a different USB cable, a different computer, reinstalling iTunes, turning off Little Snitch, turning off Firewall, using an on-board USB port. Absolutely NOTHING worked and my phone is bricked. Now, despite everything all I get is "iPhone" could not be restored An unknown error occured (2006).
Can anyone help?Close iTunes and unplug iphone
Search web and download the 2.2.1 ipsw file.
Go to device manager on PC and delete the USB option for Apple under the hardware options.
Reboot PC
Plug in iphone and wait for dreaded connection picture
hold power button and home button until apple logo appears
continue to hold home button and release power button until connection picture appears again
Your PC should now find the iphone in recovery mode
Now open iTunes and it will prompt you to restore
Hold the shift button on the keyboard and click the restore button at the same time
This will allow you to browse for the correct ipsw file
select the 2.2.1 file that you downloaded
your iphone will now restore
Once completed, you will need to resync
Now you are back to square one but at least have a phone that works
Now make an appt at the Genius Bar and make them update it for you
Mine is scheduled for next week -

The iphone could not be restored an unknown error occurred 1013 ATTt iPhone
AT&T iPhone 4
Last night when I plugged my phone in to iTunes, it told me I needed to update my phone. So I tried to do it. Then it said I need to restore it. So I pressed the "restore button". After several minutes, I get a pop-up error box stating "the iphone "iPhone" could not be restored an unknown error occurred 1013". I've read other discussions with the same issue, but none of the solutions work.
Please help.Exact same thing happened to me. I took it to a local Apple Store and they told me the port was corroded and so they replaced the phone. I took the phone back home, plugged it into itunes, told it to restore my old contacts, and BOOM same error. Iphone could not be restored an unknown error occurred 1013.
Seeing as how the nearest Apple Store is a two hour round trip from here, I'm very upset. What is up with this last update? -

i have an apple 3g, tried to upgrade it to a 4.2 version, (previously it was 4.1). it wasnt successful, the computer asked us to restore it to the version which was last operational, and while restoring an error message appeared "the iphone could not be restored, an unknown error occured
"This error is caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. While upgrading my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.2 something went wrong and came up with the message "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred [1015]." Now it will not start at all. It just stays on screen with USB and the iTune picture. What can I do to get it going again. I only tried to upgrade because I was prompted to up-grade and now I am helpless. I did a backup before starting the upgrade. The error message did not tell what to do next. Any help is very much appreciated.
Usually that means the iPhone was hacked to unlock it from the original
carrier .
Updating the operating system locks it back to that original carrier
You could try this

However if the iPhone was hacked it is probably a paper weight now
and as this is an Apple hosted forum you can get no further help here -

Hey, Guys!
I bought my Iphone 4S in London less than a month.
When i arrived in Brazil, it just couldn`t make any calls. I bought one UNbloked, but it seems it was blocked.
When i pluged it in my macbook pro to update and restore it, at the end of the firmware restoration, it simply frozes the iphone in recovery mode and a message appears on the screen:
"The iphone could not be restored. a unknown error occurred (-1).
I just don`t know what to do to fix the problem.
Somebody, plesase, can help me?
Thanx!!!Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.
