  • Error 14 when trying to update to iOS 5.0.1

I keep getting "unknown error occured (14)" when trying to update (and now subsequently restore) my iPad to iOS 5.0.1.  Any ideas on what to do?

    William,
In fact I have tried both the normal software update a couple of times AND downloading the combo installer. The message, when trying to install the latter, was "Checksum Invalid". Is it possible that the files get corrupt during download? I am getting crazy - I need the upgrade to 10.5.2 in order to upgrade Aperture 1.5 to 2.0, which again is necessary in order to download images from my new camera... :((

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ appstore.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

  • Error -50 when trying to update to iOS 5

I'm trying to update my 3GS to ios5 but keep getting an error -50 message while iTunes is backing up my phone. It says if I continue my phone will be wiped? Any help would be great.

Ok so after countless hours of reading forums, trying to fix my daughters iPod touch, this is what I had found and YAAY it worked!
When I plugged in the iPod for the 1 millionth time and it asked to restore you hold down the shift key and click restore.  It then brings up a box to locate the file you wish to restore from.
The file will be in C:/Users(yourusername)Appdata/Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPod Software Updates
then just choose an update from the date you knew was working!
    Worked a charm for me!
****Not saying this will work for everyone, it was the only thing out of about 20 solutions that did work!

  • Error "3194" when trying to update to iOS 5

    Hi guys,
I've downloaded the iOS 5 firmware but after it backs up my device and attempts to install I get an error "3194"
A google search doesnt seem to show any fix that has worked.
    Thanks in advance,
    - liquidshade

    Phil,
Same here, tried all the suggested steps in the 'more info' link but still gave the 3194.
A quick search of iPhone 4 discussions suggested these steps (thanks MacMan TommyC)
Do a HARD reset of the iPhone - holding the Lock/Power button and Home Buttons until the iPhone powers down and the Apple Logo reappears.
Make sure that your Mac (I'm assuming) has all recent security and iTunes updates completed; Safari, too, made a diff here as well.
Do a HARD reset on the computer as well.
Launch ITunes FIRST then connect the IPhone to the USB again.
Upon recognition, hopefully, ITunes will want to do the Update to iOS 5 for you, do its LOOOOONG back-up, and then install the update for you and then put everything back on.
Also added the following to the host file, not sure if it actually helped but it was came up quite frequent on a Google search

    Check for hardware issues
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.
