Error 102 when attempting to run software update
I am getting an Error 102 'error occurred while downloading the updates' message when attempting to run software update.
I've already cleared the cache, rebooted the machine, etc. with no luck.
I'm apparently stuck on V10.8 and cannot update software beyond that point.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

This indicates a mucked up installation, since the SU can't find the PackageKit file. Reinstall Snow Leopard from your install disc.

When attempting to install "Software Update" from Apple, the process stalls at "Configuring Installation". Even allowing it to run for 24 hours does not result in any progress.
Thanks for the straightforward tip. I had restarted once already, but the second time was a charm. The install button now works. Don't know if it mattered, but I also repaired disk permissions and then restarted in safe mode this time.
The printer driver is apparently a different issue in itself. It turns out that the my printer, the HP Deskjet F380, has some fluke that makes it incompatible in 10.6. A new driver is coming out from HP according to Rickmeister in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10076690
In case anyone else has the same problem with the F380: Like the user in the aforementioned thread, I downloaded and installed the old HP drivers for 10.5, and now at least I can print in the meantime. -

TS3694 iPod touch gets error -1303 when attempting to restore after update (W7)
iPod touch gets error -1303 when attempting to restore after update (W7). This error is not shown anywhere in the specific list. Have done all recommended recovery methods (reboot, update iTunes, restart iPod) to no avail. What is next?
Usually the 1303 error is in regards to a corrupted or missing backup of your iPod Touch. Try removing or moving the backups to another location and then try to restore your iPod once again.

Hello,
I was wondering if someone knows what this error message in the Mac App Store means. I am trying to run Software Update by clicking in the Apple Menu however, I am not able to see my available updates and instead get the following message on the Mac App Store:
I have tried to fix the error by deleting both the Mac App Store Caches and plist files in the user library and made sure that I am properly logged into the Mac App Store with my personal Apple ID.
What else can I do?aayushp wrote:
I've been having the same issue. It was all fine until yesterday when I was searching for updates.
Since when have you been seeing this error message?
Last time I checked for an update was about 2 weeks ago and there were no errors reported. However, today I wanted to update iTunes to version 10.7 and decided to use the standalone installer rather than the SU version. Still, I decided to run the MAS Software Update function in order to ensure that my computer had all its software up-to-date and then I get this message. I don't think that me installing iTunes is to blame. Probably, it could be an internet connection problem on Apple's end I am still submitting a bug report to Apple.
Now one question, who is your ISP (internet service provider)? In my case I have Comcast and I am in Florida.
Thanks for your reply! -
Error 21470247770 when attempting to run macros in Project Server v2010
We have some new users to our Project Server that are getting the following error when they attempt to run our macros which are stored on the Enterprise Global:
"System Error &H8007007E (-2147024770). The specified module could not be found."
We have already tried resetting their Global.mpt as well as checking for duplicate copies of the macros in their local Global.mpt, to no avail. This sounds like the system is preventing them access to the modules. Thoughts?

This is why I suggest people run ProcMon filtering with Operation Is WriteFile and then using Count occurrences... on Path to at least find out what all their diagnostics might be. However, even if there aren't any other diagnostics than this at least
ProcMon's other trace events will supplement the meaning of whatever you do see. E.g. provided you can infer a match of any one WriteFile event to a particular log record you can hopefully use preceding File and Registry access events as if they had
something to do with the generation of that message.
BTW I notice that you were essentially up-to-date in your maintenance for the version of IE that you were switching from. What would you say to someone who was trying to do what you are doing who was also saying that they weren't connected to the Internet
so therefore they didn't see any need to do any maintenance? Would the procedure you found help them too?

Anyway I hadn't thought of using the IEAK as a method of doing this so I'm pointing that thread here for that possibility.
Thanks for the tip.

Error message when attempting to download software or restore
receiving error message "the connection could not be established when trying to download latest software"
Also cannot restore device. Followed all instructions on support website and still not working. Help !!!!!This has solved loads of people who have this issue and have used an alternate DNS setting. Below are instructions for both iPhone OTA and on you Mac
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
Change DNS Servers
Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
You can use OpenDNS
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
or
You can Google Public DNS if you want
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
I have actually repointed my routers DNS so all my devices now point to OpenDNS servers -
Getting error 5002 when trying to purchase software update for 1st gen iPod Touch

I keep getting a Networking Error: when i run Software update. i have 10.5.8 and want to upgrade to at least 10.6 or later. i know the network is working perfectly.
Snow Leopard OS 10.6 is not available via Software Update, it is paid upgrade.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
and in the UK:
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

HT1338 Receiving Error when I run Software Update in Mountain Lion.
I am receiving the following error when I run software update in OS-X Mountain Lion. The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)
Is this a problem with my MBP or is there an issue with the AppStore servers? Is there an alternate way in Mountain Lion to look for updates if the problem is with the AppStore app itself?

I updated itunes to 10.4, my ipod touch was wiped clean then errored (2003) when attempting to restore. Now my ipod is clear, when I turn it on I get the "Connect to itunes screen", this never goes. I have tried disabling my antivirus, to allow me to restore with no luck.
When I go into itunes I get the message - itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes,
how am I supposed to do this ?
I would rather take the ipod to someone to do the restoration - I still have itunes with all of my downloads on my computer, I dont want to risk losing this as I can re-install onto my ipod when it is sorted.Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on): If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.
Above from:

It may be more than you security software.
Do you have access to another computer you can use to restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod? -
Ti G4 PB crashes when running Software Update
I just received a Titanium PowerBook G4 800Mhz used on eBay. Has 512MB ram, 100GB Hitachi 5400rpm hardrive insalled, airport card and came freshly formatted with 10.3 installed and a CD with system patches up to 10.3.9. I reformatted the hardrive and attempted to do a clean install of 10.4 Tiger and here are my issues:
1. After installing 10.4, attempt software update, all current updates and 10.4.3 combo update, experience kernel panic in middle of update with grayed out screen and multi-language message “you need to restart your computer, hold down power button." Everytime I restart and run software update, same problem happens.
2. Restart and go to Apple’s website and download 10.4.1 manually. Installs with no problem
3. Download 10.4.2 from Apple’s site, experience kernel panic, have to hard restart.
4. Download 10.4.3 via software update, computer freezes, but after a couple of hard restarts it installs somehow.
5. With 10.4.3 installed, software update “quits unexpectedly” every time I try to run it.
6. Boot off of Hardware Test CD, run tests, everything test okay
7. Decided to install 10.3 Panther to see if problem is with 10.4
8. Reformat and clean install 10.3
9. Run software update and attempt to install all current updates up to 10.3.9, screen completely freezes during “expanding” portion of update window. Have to hard restart, same problem every time I run software update.
Well, I’m stumped. I’ve attempted everything I can think of and was up till 3am last night trying to figure this out. I’ve run Disk Warrior, reformatted and partitioned the hard drive multiple times in different ways, all with the same results. I just completely reformatted my old white iBook G3 and installed 10.4.3 with no problems, and that machine is older and not nearly as impressive as this Titanium, so it leads me to believe that there is an underlying hardware problem, or at least a firmware problem. Also, the fact that the previous owner sent the computer with 10.3 installed and a CD with individual patch updates makes me think he was aware of the problem with Software Update and wanted me to update using the CD. I don't know, I'm lost at this point. Could it be the replacement Hitachi hard drive? Bad memory? Please, any help is greatly appreciated.
Greg
Ti PowerBook G4 800Mhz 15.2" w/DVI Mac OS X (10.3) 512MB RAM (1slot), 100GB Hitachi 5200rpm internal driveWell...
It was just a bad RAM chip. The stock 512B chip in the lower slot must have been causing the kernel panics. I took it out and put a new 512MB chip in the upper slot and everything works great now. One thing though, the replacement 144pin PC133 chip I purchased wouldn't work in the lower slot, it fit fine although it wasn't as tall as the stock chip. Installed in the lower slot, the Ti Book would make three beep error sound and not start up. Can anyone tell me why it would work in the upper slot and not the lower? Your input is appreciated
