Error -1073807202...

Error -1073807202 Property Node (arg 1) in VISA configure serial port (Instr)
I get this message only when running the Labview executable I built and only on a computer that has just the Labview runtime engine (not the development environment).
How do I fix this?

Hello,
I think this Knowledge Base article will help provide you with more information for your error. One of the ways that I find most helpful to find more information about a given error is just to take the error code without the "-" sign and paste it into the search of ni.com .  I also concur that the best solution here would be to create an Installer along with your executable that has the VISA Run-time engine installed. Run your installer on your pc without labview. Then run your executable.

I am working with the 30-day evaluation version of LabVIEW
(Version 9.0 32-bit).  I am attempting to perform the serial loopback test
described in NI's Developer Zone Tutorial, executing Basic Serial Read and
Write.vi.  When I click the Run arrow a dialog box appears with the
    following legend:
"Error 1073807202 occurred at Property Node (arg 1) in VISA Configure
Serial Port (Instr).vi>Basic Serial Read and Write.vi.  LabVIEW: VISA or
code library could not be located.  ...required drive not installed..."
I can find the "smplserl.vi" driver in the /examples folder on my PC.
    What's wrong?

Did you do a search for that error? Install NI-VISA.

  • Sbrio9636 VISA Error -1073807202

    Hello
I have a sbRIO9636 and the test instruments. I just want to connect sbRIO and Test instruments(with RS232).
I am trying to connect RS232 (9 pin) via serial ports..I also have Measurement & Automation Explorer (ver 5.1) to monitor and configure Serial/parallel connections.
The problem is that when I query, it looks like my device is not properly recognized. I only get time-out errors.  VISA Error -1073807202. But when I connect the Test instruments directly to PC, NI Max shows COM 1 and can get the data from the test instrumnets. That means, I can get the data from PC , but I can't do the same with sbRIO9636.
How can I ensure that my device is properly recognized? Is my COM1 port activated at all? I can't see COM Port in NI Max for sbRIO9636.
    thank you!

  • Error 1073807202 despite installing NI VISA

    Hello all,
I am getting error 1073807202, despite installing NI VISA.
I am using the linux version of labview 2011, and although NI VISA is not available for ubuntu, I found some methods online, to install VISA in LabVIEW in ubuntu. But still I am getting this error. Could there be some other drivers that need to be installed?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Thank you for your concern. I am Preeti's partner and it is me who did the installation. Actually I firstly tried to install it with the individual NI-VISA 4.5 software installation package and installed it by inputing
    sudo sh ./INSTALL
since the bash shell does not work. I confirmed the installation successful message, and tried our program in LabVIEW but the error appears all the same.
Secondly I tried to reinstall the whole LabVIEW with the installation CD, which contains NI-VISA 5.1 as a component. And I confirmed that nothing error appears in installation. But the error just appears again and again.
To tell the truth I am planning to reinstall the whole Ubuntu system now, lol.
    Thank you!

  • Why do I get VISA code error -1073807202 when trying to connect PXI-2565?

I got error code -1703807202 (a code library required by VISA could not be found) every time when I first started up the computer and used "Initialize with topology" to connect my channels.  This error would go away if I start MAX and open up devices and interfaces, then re-run the same task.  How do I get rid of the error?  Thanks.

    Hey Pal,
You are correct about NI-VISA having requirements for LabVIEW.  The latest version of NI-VISA won't work properly with LabVIEW 7.0.  You can see the supported versions in the readme of the driver.  For example, NI-VISA 4.4.1 is compatible with the following versions of LabVIEW:  8.6/8.5/8.2/7.1.1.

  • NI VISA and Signal Express - Error -1073807202

So I did a search on this very common error that I'm also having, see error1.jpg. So one of the responses was to try and make an installer which I'm trying to do, see error2.jpg. I hope that is the right thing to check to fix the error (nobody said in the previous posts that I read). Then it asks me to find Signal Express. So I get out my DVD of Labview 8.5.0 and point it to the location (J: drive), see error3.jpg. But then Labview tells me that it is an invalid location. I mean WTF? I'm getting really annoyed by now and do another search of the forums. I find a post that says to look in MAX to see where Signal Express is located. So I do that and then put that location into the installer builder dialog box. Guess what it tells me, see error 4.jpg. So now what do I do????

Are you getting error 1 when running an application on a deployment computer?
Yes, the error happens when I install the application (using the installer I built) on both the inhouse deployment computer and the computer of a customer I sent the application to.
I checked the deployment computer and the RunTime Engine is installed, but I see no referance to VISA. Surely you're not suggesting that I ask my customer (and any other customer who requires the application) to go to ni.com/support to download the 28.5 MB file (if my memory is correct) for the VISA drivers just to talk to a com port. So I need to fix my installer.
So I have a couple of questions.
Has this distribution problem been fixed in LabView 8.6.1? I have a copy just never installed it as I saw no real need to upgrade since my system so far has been working.
Did I check the right box, NI-VISA Runtime, (for Signal Express) to get the installer to include the VISA drivers?
I would like to get the next version right as I'm sure my customer has a reduced opinion of me for sending him a program that doesn't work.

  • 1073807202 error in Keithley 2401 SMU

    Every one.
I am using Labview 2012. I am trying to interface Keithley 2401 SMU with laptop via Keithley-GPIB KUSB 488B. When I am trying to run the program, it is indicating error 1073807202. I have reinstalled all the labview software, NI-VISA (latest), drivers and 2401 library files, but the problem remain as the same.
Can any one hepl me. I need to fix this problem as soon as possible as I need this for my research purpose.
Also can u suggest me the SOP (Standard operating procedure) sequence for installing labview, NI-VISA and instrument driver.
    Thanking you
    Avishek Das

The error is probably due to your use of a Keithley controller instead of one from NI. Have you checked with them about using their hardware? How does the controller show up in MAX?

  • -1073807202 error

Hello there, we have a labview 7 program controlling 2400 Keithley source meter. It was working perfeclty okay until yesterday. Now the write visa is not doing its  job and showing error -1073807202
    please help.

LabVIEW gives the following error description for that code:
VISA:  (Hex 0xBFFF009E) A code library required by VISA could not be located or loaded.
Note that you can find this yourself by either right clicking on the error code in the error cluster and selecting Explain Warning or by selecting Help»Explain Error... from the help menu and pasting in the error code.  As aestet said, this is probably due to something being installed or uninstalled and your VISA library getting removed.

  • Error -1073807202

I am trying to write a command to an external instrument via a com1 port and even using a very simple circuit (using a VISA write block, VISA resource name is I/O COM1, and the command to the instrument in Write Buffer. Nothing is wired to the error code input. )  I get the following error message:
Error -1073807202 occurred at VISA Write in doug experiment.vi
This error code is undefined. No one has provided a description for this code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input.
Any ideas on how to get this to work/ what I am doing wrong, would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi Doug,
have you noticed that before you asked a question you were forced to do a search?
    Have you done that?
because if I enter your error code (without the (-)) I get 136 results

  • VISA error

    Hallo NG,
I've programmed a VI that communicates via GPIB with an instrument. Works
fine on the Computer (NT 4.0 with LV 5.1.1 Full Development), where I
    developed the VI.
I built an application of this VI. Works fine on the Computer, where I
    developed.
When I try to portate it on another Computer (NT 4.0 with Runtime Engine LV
5.1.1) I have the following error
Error -1073807202 occurred at an unidentified location.
    Possible reasons:
VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF009E) A code library required by VISA could not be located
    or loaded.
    Which library is missing ?
    Thanks a lot

    re: VISA errors.
I'm new to all of this.  I needed to replicate an ATE system that was put together for us by a large US consulting company several years ago (before my time).  They were pretty good with their documentation, but they neglected to mention that a VISA run time is needed to be installed before their application would work.  Probably because they developed the software on the existing systems and the Labview/CVI development system automatically installed VISA.  The system uses instruments from Agilent and Tek, and a Keithley KPCI-488 card as the controller.  I installed everything as they described and when I ran the application (that had been developed with CVI), got the now classic error bfff009e, "A code library required by VISA could not be located or loaded".
This has got to be one of the dumbest, least clear error messages I've seen in a long time.  Not knowing anything else, an educated guess would indicate that it is VISA itself that is generating this error message.  It doesn't tell you what specifically is missing so it is almost usless.  However, a search of the NI message boards here indicates that it is actually a total lack of VISA at all that causes this error message.  Using the search string "a code library" results in 60 hits, most all for the same issue in one way or another.  It would seem to me that an error message that simply states instead "VISA is not installed" or some such thing would have saved hundreds of developers countless debugging hours.
I know this is not NI's fault, I have seen the same error message within an XML file of error messages on Agilent's software as well so it must be a "standard" message.
    My 2 cents...
Oh and another thing, the CEC488 driver software that comes with the Keithley KPCI-488 card seems to expect the VISA run time to be in the C:\VXIPNP directory and not the C:\Program Files\IVI Foundation\VISA directory.  This means that you MUST use Version 4.1 or earlier.  (Or maybe install one of these earlier ones then install the latest.)  I couldn't get an install of 4.2 to work, but 4.1 does.  Maybe if I now install 4.2 it will work because it defaults back to the old installation directory.  See the readme for version 4.2.

  • I use LabVIEW 7.1 but I have some problem when, I use LabVEW to read the data from serial communication

I use LabVIEW 7.1 but I have some problem when, I use LabVEW to read the data from serial communication.
I use LabVIEW to read the data from serial communication then, i open the example (.vi) from Serial Communication - Advanced Serial Write and Read  from LabVIEW Example. BUT it have some error message that : Error - 1073807202 occured  at property node in visa configure serial port (instr).vi -> advance serial write and read .vi
this error code is undefined. no one has provide a description for this code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input.
I don't know why? please help me. thank you.

When I copy that code into "Explain Error" I get: "VISA:  (Hex 0xBFFF009E) A code library required by VISA could not be located or loaded."
You may have a bad install of VISA or the wrong version of VISA loaded. Try re-installing VISA. You can get the latest version from the NI support site: http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/webcategories/85256410006C055586256BBB002C0E91?opendocument&node=1....
Also ensure that you are not pointing the example towards a serial port that does not exist.
Please let us know what you find and what gets this working for you.

  • Can't open serial port

    I don't know what I've done.
When I try to open COM1 I get:
"Error -1073807202 occurred at Property Node in VISA Configure Serial Port (Instr).vi->Untitled 1
This error code is undefined. No one has provided a description for this code, or you might have wired a number that is not an error code to the error code input."
"VISA FInd Resources" reports 0 resources found.
    any ideas?

It should show up in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) click the Software folder to expand it, then click on NI-VISA. It should show the versions installed in the right panel.
