Error 11556: Can't share between some accounts on same computer

I can't get iTunes (11.1.3) Home Sharing to work with this one account on my computer (Mini, OS 10.8.5). I've enabled it OK in my main admin account, and in one other account, but in my daughter's account I keep getting the error message: "Home Sharing could not be activated because an error occurred (11556)"
I thought it might have something to do with the parental controld I'd set up on her account, but I turned them off and got the same error. I found one discussion suggesting it works to remove iTunes and reinstall it, but that seems drastic. I'm not even sure how to do a real uninstall, except for dragging the Application/iTunes icon to the trash. I hestiate to do that, considering all is working for the other accounts, but not this one.
Suggestions? Thanks.

I wound up fixing this myself, after reading some other posts.
The key to making Home Sharing work was to enable access to the iTunes store in iTunes - something that was probably shut off when I turned on parental controls for that account. In the iTunes program, I navigated to iTunes...Preferences...Parental, and then unchecked "Disable...iTunes Store". Frankly I forget whether, when IHome Sharing was NOT working, that box was unchecked alone, or if the iTunes U box was checked, but when I unchecked them both, I was able to turn on Home Sharing. This is what the prefs window looks like when Home Sharing IS WORKING:

  • Sharing between user accounts on same computer

    Hi Folks,
I've just tried this and it didn't work, However the default setting for this scenario is usualy that I've got it wrong.... So.
Can you share an iTunes account between two different user accounts on the same computer?
The reason for the question is that my Wife and I both share the same iMac. At present we just use the admin automatic login and share everything. Neither of us have Mac eMail so my eMail is pushed to "Mail" application, and I use this and "Address Book" to sync my iPod touch. The calendar is shared anyway. My wife access her eMail through Safari.
However my Wife is about to get an iPhone. (I'm not jelous...much) This means that we will need a way for her to sync the shared iTunes content but to have her own Mail, Notes and Address book.
The easy way seemed to be to set up a user log in account for her, to give independant Mail etc. and have it share the iTunes account. But this did not seem to work, so have I got it wrong? Or is there another way to achieve the same end?
    Many thanks,
    David.

    Put them in /Users/Shared.

  • Home Sharing - Can you share between two accounts on the same computer?

I haven't been able to find any info about this, but does home sharing allow you to share files between to different user accounts on the same computer? I have been struggling with trying to do this for years, and I'm really hoping this solves my problem.

This is true in a sense; you have to use the same itunes account to activate home sharing. BUT, you don't need to use the same itunes account for general use.
    Example:
My computer and iPhone has one itunes account.
My wife's computer and iPhone have a totally separate account.
I turned on Home Sharing on both machines using one account name and ID - mine.
Now she can see and copy my music and apps, etc. I can see and copy her music, apps, etc.
However, when she goes to the iTunes store, she still can buy and so forth *on her own account*. Same with her iPhone. And I can still do the same as well on my own account on my machine and phone.
The only limitation seems to be updating apps: If you copy apps over to another machine using Home Sharing and install them on another phone running another account, it works great. But you can't seem to update those copied apps, unless you log in on the phone or the computer it syncs up to with the account it came from.
Aside from that, the apps still work even when the computer it was copied to and the phone it was synced to are active on ANOTHER account.
The key is the setup - for Home Sharing. That needs to be one account, but otherwise it's business as usual.

  • Can i use 2 different accounts on same computer?

i used to have an account from itunes wayyyyyy when it first came out, bought 48 songs and now i want to redownload them. the only problem is it wants me to authorize this as my computer. which it is, but my boyfriend started using itunes on this computer which isnt the one i had itunes on. so now when i go to download the purchased songs it says "you must authorize this as your computer" so i guess 2 questions,  so if this computer breaks can i authorize it on a new one? and will it mess up my boyfriends account at all? he has a lot more songs than i do and still uses it which i dont. please help me, this is really bugging me.

You can't cancel an Apple ID. You can use either ID on both devices, but purchases are always tied to the Apple account that the purchase was made with.

  • Sharing Itunes music between accounts on same computer

    Hi
Is it possible to share Itunes music library between three accounts on same computer so if my wife logs into her account she can see my music library

    This should help:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
Note that when it says "publicly accessible location", it needs to be a place where everyone has read and write access. The most common such place is the Shared folder in the Users folder, but you can place the music elsewhere if you change the access permissions manually (don't start tinkering with permissions unless you're confident you know what you're doing and can reverse things if they get messed up).

How can we share between two different accounts on the same iPad?  We have a therapy clinic with 2 devices and want to share apps. I did not set up the second one, but how can we fix this ?

Hi Rosdy, to get the most out of iCloud it is recommended that you use the same account between devices. Thus whenever you buy something on your phone it becomes accessible from your laptop regardless of whether your synced it over usb or not. *
For more information on iCloud usage please click here.
    * This feature requires that both devices be on the same WiFi network.

Come on Apple you are suppose to be ahead of the game. This seems kinda rediculous that you can not air drop between iOS7 devices and OS Mavericks if the both support Air Drop, I know they are different platforms but figure it out already.
Also you can not connect/communicate via Blutooth between iOS7 devices and mac.  This is been an missing in action for far too long  What's going on apple, Give us what we want.   such a simple request.  I have been asking for years to have some simple way to transfer between handset and comp.  Let our mobile divices interact with our computers.   HELLO!!!!

I have 2 iphones 4s's, ones my wife and one is mine. we have different apple IDs, can we share one itunes account?? if so, how??

If you haven't set up your own Apple ID already don't.  I suggest you use the same apple ID as your wife's.  The alternative is to do this http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848.  It's not efficient as you have to swap apple id's to update apps under both IDs.  20/20 being hindsight, I would have never created a 2nd apple ID for my wife.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1203 Can I share one iTunes account for my iPad and two I phones? If so, how can I get the purchased apps and music on all three devices? Do I need a home computer,

Can I share one iTunes account for my iPad and two I phones? If so, how can I get the purchased apps and music on all three devices? How do I sync all the devices to have the same music and apps?

You can set up an iCloud account on each one (the SAME iCloud account using the same AppleID on each) and then sync via iCloud.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5262\
However, an iCloud backup nor sync contains purchased content - that is available for redownload from the iTunes and App stores (so no need to waste iCloud space storing it for you).
So, for purchased content, you will have to download it on each device - just use the same AppleID and download each item on each device.
Without a computer to aid the sync'ing, downloading the purchased content on each device is the only way.
P.S  audiobooks cannot be re-downloaded once purchased (all other content can be), so without a computer to save, store and move the audiobook files around, you will only be able to put those on one device - the one you first purchase it on.

I can't access my itunes account on this computer it keeps coming up with an error code missing MSVCR80.dll

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.
