Error 13005

For no apparent reason when I connected my ipod classic or now when I try to open itunes on the computer I get this unknown error. Well it's clearly known by somebody. I've uninstalled and reinstalled itunes (probably losing everything!) but nothing. Can anyone help?

I've found an answer on someone else's helpful but archived posting. go to you itunes folder and delete anything to do with genius. as someone said, what twit at Apple launched an upgrade without debugging it first. i'm not impressed by apple's support. they screw up and unless some clever bod out there sorts it, we have to pay their blasted support desk. not amused.

iTunes Library cannot be stored: unknown error 13005.
I'm using iTunes V 11.1.3.8 and WIN 8 latest Version and Updates. iTunes Library and Media files are stored on a QNAP NAS storage.
Error occurs when deleting no longer exisiting files on storage but contained in iTunes library.
    What has to be done?

    FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT.....
DELETE THE BELOW FILES and EMPTY TRASH
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    THEN LAUNCH iTUNES.

  • Error 13005 Anyone know what is going on?

When I try to run iTunes I get the above error. Even when I tell itunes to create a new library by holding down shift when I click on itunes, it still gives me this error. Anyone know what is going on?

Hello, I get that error message "iTunes error 13005". I have my itunes database on an ext HD, I completed an update yesterday from Apple and my itunes wont open on my computer, giving me the above error message. I have read the resolutions offerred in the thread but I not been successfull in solving the problem. I have deleted the Genius and extras files, rebooted the computer and still the same message. I dont think it is anything to do with the iTunes update as it had the same effect on another computer here that had been update. I think it is something to do with the Ext HD and possibly the extreme WiFi router and it's firmwire update.
    Did you resolve your problem?
    Thanks
    Chris

  • ITunes Error 13005

    Hi,
I've just upgraded the the latest version of iTunes, and iTunes will now not open - error code 13005 appears instead. Any suggestions?
    Daniel

I also have had this mystery error code appear. I went to my local Apple store and asked the genius that was working what the non-descriptive error (13005) was he had not heard of it ??? It too seems that this began on my system at the time of the second to last iTunes update.
I have not yet solved he problem and it seems like it has happened to a lot of people out there. one lead that i got was it may have some thing to do with having your library saved on an external hard drive. the problem is sense iTunes does not open, there is no way to be sure. Generally in the past iTunes could still open even if it could not locate the music library.
I really wish some one at apple would address this problem. it really seems like somebody should know what the error code means.

  • Tried to download Songbird, messed up iTunes bad (Error 13005)

So I wanted to see what songbird was like, so I downloaded it, didn't like it. Tried to go back to iTunes and it keeps giving me:
    Unknown Error (13005)
A google search told me to delete my genius tab, it just kept getting recreated every time that I open iTunes back up and the error just comes again. Could it be because I have my music on an external hard drive? What's the deal?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Error 13005 when starting itunes... related to Time capsule FirmwareUpdate

Hi, I store my iTunes library on my Time capsule. Since the firmware update, I have been getting error 13005 every time I try to run iTunes. This thread pointed me over here to see if anyone knew of a reason why:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9120768&#9120768
When I create a new iTunes library on ANY other hard drive but Time Capsule, iTunes starts right up, but when I do the same on Time Capsule I get the dreaded error, even when I create a new library in a new folder on it.
    Any ideas?

  • Unknown error 13005

Yup, I'm another one - tried to download 8, and now get this maddening 'unknown error 13005' message every time, and iTunes won't open. I've run the 'repair' programme twice, uninstalled and installed iTunes - what twit at Apple put this upgrapde out there without debugging it properly first?
I'm no computer whizz - I want a simple solution, preferably supplied by Apple - failing that, anyone else out there cracked this problem?

    Hey collissharvey,
If you haven't already try updating to iTunes 8.0.1.

You also might want to try and re-create the iTunes library as described here:

  • How can i fix itunes application error 13005

I getting a itunes application error 13005 when i try opening it.  Is there anyway to fix this.   Thank you everyone for your help.

you need to do 2 simple things:
    1) Delete the Genius file sitting next to your iTunes Library file (Genius.itdb) then
relaunch iTunes and (if needed) select the desired library
    2) Go get yourself a free copy of MacKeeper
and fix the permissions on your HD. This is one of the most probable causes for the file corruption.

  • Updated iTunes to 9.2, now application won't launch - Error #13005

Help! I just updated my itunes to 9.2 and now it won't launch. An error window comes up and tells me it's due to an unknown error # 13005? I tried re-installing it to fix it but it still won't. Please help. I'm on the white 13' Macbook, running OS X 10.6.4. I have my itunes library in my external HD. Dying to get this fixed any help would be appreciated.

    try these user tips:
try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.
and, if you have flip4mac installed
I found that the TSLicense plugin was causing the problem.
    From the log:
    PlugIn Path: /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense
    PlugIn Identifier: net.telestream.license
This pIugin is installed with the Flip4Mac Windows Media Components. I solved the problem by uninstalling the WM Components via the uninstaller at /Applications/Flip4Mac/Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg, after which iTunes opens successfully.

  • Error 13005 on iTunes 10.5.3

I've had this error message on both Macs this morning - iMac  3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 and Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz Quad-Core IntelXeon both running Lion 10.7.2 (11C74).
My iTunes library is on a drive in the Mac Pro so access via shared to the iMac which is now my main workstation.
Any references that I can find for solutions are a year old.  I have tried trashing any 'Genius.itdb' and '*.lock' as suggested in earlier forums. That hasn't worked.
    Any suggestions?
I've just checked software updates and note that a 10.7.3 update is available which I will download now but as I will have to restart I'll post this first and report back in that fixes the problem.

Thanks but that seems to relate ony to the iTunes Store.
I have solved the 13005 error problem, however, by deleting the * Genius.itdb files on the source disk.  Previously I had only deleted those files from the system libraries. Now, of course, I'm having difficulties getting the Sharing working again.... but I did it once before so I'm sure I'll get it figured out again.

  • ITunes launched with Error 13005

Hi, I don't know if anyone has come across this problem before.  I have been using my iTunes library on an external drive so that I can use it between my Mac Pro and my MacBook Pro.  Both macs have Lion 10.7.3 and iTunes 10.5.3.
Today my iTunes has been working until just now.  When I tried to relaunch it, I had the following error message:
"The iTune application cannot be opened.  An unknown error occured (13005)."
I did not install any new apps nor made any changes to the apps other than syncing it with my iPhone and iPad2.
I tried to start iTune in safe mode and still had the same error message.  I even created a new user account and test it in there.  Still the same error.
Anyone has any suggestion as to where I should look.  Thanks.

I had the same problem on my Mac, and I searched throught the forums, tired the advice, but nothing worked. Then (just on a whim) I copied the contents of my iTunes folder to a tempory folder on my desktop, located here:
[hard drive] > Users > [user name] > Music > iTunes
Then I relaunced iTunes. It started, which was great, but without any media in my library (of course). Then I compared the old directory and the new directory to see the differences, and I found something simple: my iTunes Library.itl file didn't have the extension [itl] (it was simply called "iTunes Library"). So I recopied all my files back in, added the extension on to the file name, and iTunes worked.
I'm not sure if this will work for you, but maybe it will solve your problem.

  • Itunes cannot open because of unknown error (13005)

Help. Itunes will not open, but if I log onto my computer as another user, Itunes works fine.
    Thanks

Some users here have reported that one cause of the Runtime error is the Apple Software Update, so you might try removing that and see if that fixes the problem. Removing the Software Update shouldn't affect iTunes itself (though as with any software maintenance operation, it would be wise to make a backup of your purchased tracks before you try it), you just won't get automatic update checking.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes unknown error (13005)

After reading thru various solutions, I am still unable to start iTunes 8. I have removed the 2 genius files and everytime I try to open, the genius itdb file reappears. I tried to reinstall iTunes and as soon as it installs, the same unknown error appears. Any more ideas?

I have the same issue. I did a finder search for "genius" and deleted all the genius files. Trashed them and emptied trash. It just auto populates another genius file.

  • Unknown Error 13005 after upgrading

Itunes will no longer open after upgrading to 8. I believe because my music library is not on my local machine it is having problems. How does a person downgrade Itunes?

Same issue for me. iTunes 8 and an external drive. The cause of the lockup happened right after launching iTunes. Genius started doing its thing, then I went to the iTunes store and did a search for a song. Boom! Crash to the desktop. After that, I got the error and no iTunes. Removal of the genius related files (iTunes Library Genius.itdb-journal and iTunes Library Genius.itdb) plus the iTunes Library Genius.itdb.lock files allowes iTunes to work for me as well.
I wonder if there is a limit to how much song data can be uploaded?
Anyway, thanks Chris for the info.
