Error -1303 while consolidating iTunes library

I have files on 3 different hard disks and am trying to consolidate onto one of them. The process gets half-way through then stops with the message
Copying Music Failed. An unknown error occured (-1303).
One of the hard disks is the local C:
Another is a USB hard disk mapped as F:
The third is a network drive mapped as \\Hostname\\Sharename\MusicLibrary
Any ideas?
Simon

Maybe I found a workaround which worked on my mac:
Be sure to create a copy of the original files before and store it in a safe place before you begin!
- create a new folder local
- copy the iTunes library file to the new local folder
- open iTunes and press ALT (to choose the just copied library) and wait until that Genius thing finished screening the library
- exit iTunes
- create a new folder on NAS
- copy all the new files from the new local folder to the newly created folder on NAS
- repeat the opening procedure as mentioned above but now choose the library from the new NAS folder
- wait again for the genius...
- if everything went through --> overwrite the original files with the files which worked before.
I'm not responsible for any damage...

  • I Get an Error "To Access Your iTunes Library ..." And Other Things Are Wonky Too ... Can't Reset ... Internet Radio Drops ... But Things Look To Be Set Up Okay

When I use my Apple TV and try to play music from my computer I get an error: "To access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer using 'myname'"
On my computer n iTunes Preferences / Sharing I have the "Share my library on my local network" checked with "Share entire library" -- no password, no update play counts.  I've turned it off and on again.
The Apple TV settings show we are "talking to" my WIFI -- it has my network, shows a good signal strenght, all sorts of internet addresses and IP stuff I don't understand ...
The "Internet" tab works with some of those things I'd never use -- like I see the current NHL standings.
My TV works and I get an ATV signal and those little chimes / bongs when I hit things in the menu.  And when it works I get audio so the cables and TV are okay.
In the past I had trouble with the settings for my favourite Internet Radio stations (the provider changed their URL but Apple didn't update the presets for a while) but those are now resolved.
I had a crappy old G class router and week signal strenght but I have a new N class Cisco router with a strong signal.
    But other things are wonky:
    * I play interent radio and my station will go fine for about five minutes then stop -- the little wheel spins trying to reconnect.  Sometimes it resets but more often than not it won't.  I just tried again four hours later and the same thing.
    * I've unplugged the ATV and plugged it back in but no noticable improvement
    * I tried to do the factory reset from the ATV menu.  It says it will download the latest bla bla bla and after a few minutes tells me "Apple TV can't download latest update right now, try again later" -- I've tried three times today always with the same results.
    * I unhooked it from the power and HDMI and plugged it into a Micro USB cable and plugged that into my Mac -- it doesn't show up in the devices in iTunes.
    * I have a bunch of photos in a folder that I use for my ATV Screen Saver.  A few weeks ago I added two photos to that folder -- they don't show up in the ATV screen show but the others still do.
    * When I started today I checked my iTunes and the airplay icon didn't show in the bottom right (beside the genious icon and the little thing to show or hide the sidebar).  Now I noticed the Airplay icon is there.  When I try to switch from playing through my computer speaakers to my Apple TV I get an error "An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the Airplay device "Apple TV"" -- the ATV shows that Airplay is on.
    * I see from the ATV settings that I'm running ATV Software 4.4.3 (3323) and when I do a "Update Software" on the ATV it tells me that my software is current.
    * My iTunes is 10.5.2 (11) and my OS is 10.6.8 -- both are up to date.
    Yikes and double yikes!
    Any ideas?

    Hey Chunk,
I love the idea of the ATV more than I have loved the little black box but ... famous last words ... my ATV seems to be working better these days.
A big challenge for me was too many variables at play -- new router, new ATV OS / firmware / whatever, changing internet radio presets, a less than perfect physical set up ... and a short attention span from yours truly.
Here's what I did.  Somwhere in these changes things got "fixed."
    * I unhooked the ATV and did a factory restore by hard wiring the ATV to my computer with a micro USB cable (no external power needed) working through iTunes (I run iTunes 10.5.2 on an iMac with OS X 10.6.8).
    * after the reset I now have ATV (is that an operating system or a firmware?) 4.4.4
    * then I plugged it back into my home theatre and it didn't work :-) but in slightly different ways.  The settings showed that I was connected to my home network but I couln't get connected using my Apple ID and no internet radio.  (it is often counterintuitive -- like why when I want my ATV to talk to my iMac over my local network am I logging in to the iTnes Store with my Apple ID? but there you go.)
    * I booked with the genius bar at the Apple Store and put my ATV in my pocket.  They pulled out a TV, HDMI cable, ATV power source and even the remote -- all I provided was my little black ATV.  We hooked the ATV to their TV and from the Apple Store (using thier WIFI) I logged in using my Apple ID and the thing worked fine.
    * so now I knew that my ATV was up to date and it worked in the Apple Store using their network so it looked like the issue was my network.
    * rebooted my router and noticed that when I had upgraded to the new super dooper Cisco n router we had plugged my iMac direct to the router via ethernet cable.  I unhooked the ethernet and now just run my computer WIFI using AirPort.
    And ...
It works.  I use my ATV exclusivly for music -- my iTunes and internet radio and AirPlay -- and now both work fine.  The ATV does pick up photos from my iPhoto for the screen saver and all that other stuff -- netflix, youtube, the hockey scores, ... all seem to be there.  And my son played a video off his iPod Touch using AirPlay.
I know my approach is more scattered than a proper scientific try but ...
From my experience ... reset the ATV and get it up to date; see if it will work on someone else's network; check your network set up.
    Good luck!

  • After installing iTunes 10.3.1 it won't open, error message - "the file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"

new iTunes won't open. Error says cant read iTunes Library.itl becuase it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
I had just installed iTunes 10.3.1 as was instructed by the Genius at the store.

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

  • TS1424 I can't open iTunes. Get error message "the file iTunes library.itl cannot be opened because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"

I cannot open itunes.  Getting error message: "the file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"
What do I need to do so I dont lose all my loaded music, etc.?
    Thanks

If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.

  • Error message -48: The itunes library file cannot be saved.

    Hello,
When I open up my itunes i get an error message 48 - the itunes library file cannot be saved. All my data is there - music, podcasts etc. Just wondering if this error message means anything, if so what, and what I can do to fix it?
    Thanks!

I just called Apple Support and I think they helped me, but I'm still waiting to see if the error message returns. I was experiencing the same problem. Whenever I started iTunes, I would get the -48 error message. Everything else was working fine. Apple Support instructed me to delete some files from a folder and restart my pc. I did this and it seems to have worked. The folder is on my C:/ drive. Using Windows Explorer, I went to my C:/ drive and then opened the following folders in this order: "Documents and Settings", "Administrator", "Application Data", "Apple Computer", "iTunes", "iPod Software Updates". Inside the iPod Software Updates folder, I found four files which I deleted. I then emptied my trash can and restarted my pc. After I restarted my pc and opened iTunes, the error message did not come up. So it looks like my problem has been solved. Just some minor glitch having to do with the last update. I should mention that I did just get an iPod Classic 80 gig which replaced my 30 gig iPod Photo which just died.

  • Error message "The file 'iTunes library.itl' . . .

Someone help! I got an error message "The file 'iTunes library.itl' cannpt be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." What does that mean? I had a clean-up done and now I can't access my music! I tried to download a updated version but I still get the same error. What can I do?

If you navigate to your iTunes Music Folder in Explorer you will see several files. The artwork folder contains artwork but only iTunes and iPod can read these files. There is a iTunes music folder with the actual music files. Then there are two files called iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes library.ilt. These are two text and database files, respectively, that contain your ratings, play counts, last played and possibily your playlists too (Dont know about playlists). Stuff like that. There is also a previous library folder with an older database file. So in theory, you could delete the database and text files and still have your music. Then just download iTunes 6 and install. But you will lose ratings, play counts, last played, playlists etc. What I would recommend is to move your music to another location, then uninstall iTunes and delete the files I was talking about. Then reinstall iTunes. I think everything I said here is correct but I am not completely sure so I can't guarantee anything. Also I am using a Mac so it may be different, probably not though.

  • Error Message: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read..."

I'm trying to install iTunes on my machine and am getting this error message:
"The file 'iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."
Does anyone know why? How can I fix this?

In order to play m4p files, you must authorise your new PC. iTunes should prompt you to do this if you try to play an m4p file on an unauthorised PC.
Apple has a strict download once policy, so you cannot re-download files that you have already downloaded.
The simplest way to get you files off the external drive is to add the folder containing your music to iTunes with File>>Add folder to library. You need to ensure that "Copy to itunes music folder when adding to library" is checked on the advanced tab of Preferences.
Doing it this way is easy but you lose counts and ratings etc. If you want to recover these, there are two possibilities.
If you had your iTunes folder containing the the iTunes Library files on the external drive, You can simply connect to it by doing a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes. Keep holding the shift key until you are promoted to choose a library. Navigate to the iTunes folder on the external drive and choose iTunes Library.itl.
But I suspect that you had your iTunes folder with lirbary files on your old PC. Recovering the library data is more complicated and I will need more information about your old set up if you want to attempt it.

  • Error message saying "new itunes library"

downloaded the latest itunes now when i try to open itunes just get error message saying "new itunes library"

    Try this approach:
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If that doesn't work go into the Control Panel for progams and try to repair the iTunes installation, or remove it and then reinstall.

    Hello,
    Did you reinstall lately?
My 10.4.11 Drive seemes to have iTunes 7.6.2 on it, have you tried Software update to see if iTunes is listed?
Another 10.4.11 drive has iTunes 6.05 on it... I hate upgrading iTunes, seems worse at every upgrade.
The 10.5.8 drive I'm booted from now has iTunes 8.02 on it.
