Error 1303

I can´t find a solution to this issue on Windows 7, any ideas?
Error 1303.The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator.

In Windows 7 when you logon as a local administrator two security tokens are created by the LoginUI process and you are logged in with the less privileged token.  This is why you get a get a prompt asking for permission, basically it switches you to your higher privileged token.  Try right clicking the installer and select "Run as Administrator" to force the higher privileged token.  Also ensure your user has write permissions to the mentioned directory.

    Retry / Cancel
    Retry always fails
    Folders have full rights
    Account is administrator
Even ran IE as administrator in hopes this would help
Uninstalled all Adobe products and restarted, this did not help
Updated the security on the folders so the admin had full rights (this failed on a bunch of folders.)

Download the installer directly from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.4.0/en_US/AdbeRdr940_en_US.exe and save it to disk.

    Blakney,
Thanks for your post - I don't think it's a false alarm to receive an error message! Did I understood you correctly that you ran the installer as administrator and still got the message of insufficient privileges?
By the way, what would be the preferred procedure: first de-install CVI2010 and then install SP1 or directly install SP1?

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.3.1 won't install on Windows 7. Error 1303 on ActiveX directory.

    Hi,
I have tried searching in all the windows and adobe forums but couldn't find the answer to this problem. I had Adobe Acrobat running. I updated, not sure if it was 9.0 or 9.3 but it didn't install properly and it messed up my adobe installation. I removed all Adobe programs (Acrobat, Flash, Air) but the Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ActiveX directory is not accessble. The installer fails with Error 1303 saying it doesn't have permission to access this directory. I have tried Editing the Advanced properties to change the ownership but the owner is not visible and unchangeable. Please help me fix this. Due to this Acrobat cannot be installed and without PDF, its impossible to use so many programs.
I was running the installer as Administrator.
    Thanks.
    P.S.
Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.

Thanks. I was logged in as Admin. What helped was the age old proven solution for any Windows problem, a reboot. For some reason, some process was probably holding on to the lock. Some uninstaller forgot to ask me to reboot, or perhaps I forgot to reboot. Oh well.

I had the same problem listed.  The update uninstalled my old version and then bombed at installing the new versio with Error 1303.  Despite being an administrator, I did not have rights to change or delete the reader folder.  So I booted into safe mode then that gve me the ability to blow away the Reader folder.  I ran the installer again from Adobe.com and it went through fine.  Hope this works for you.

  • Installing Adobe Reader and got Error 1303

I was trying to install Adobe Reader and I got this error 1303. "Error 1303, The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Resource\Font\PFM. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator." Can you help?

Try running the uninstaller from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html then download and run the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Adobe reader xi installing error 1303

Hi, if i try to install it, i get that message: Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory on c:\program files, also  after some reboots or in  boot in safe mode, i'm able to install it, but it refuse to open any pdf file, and even i can install many other programs, i don't have the rights on the program files folder and subfolders, i use w7 64.
I got he same problem that this other message
Keep getting an error upon trying to download/install Adobe Reader XI
    That help page:
"Error 1303: Installer has insufficient privileges" or "Error 1304: Error writing to file" | Install | CS3, CS4, CS5 pro…
don't help, because OS don't allow me to get full rights on the folder even i'm the administrator, no other problem on computer, just reader XI fail.
    Thanks

This is very unusual; Adobe Reader should not attempt to access C:\Program Files on a 64-bit system; all should go into C:\Program Files (x86)
What I would try if I were to encounter your problem:
download the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and save it to disk
right-click on the downloaded installer, then select Run as Administrator

I had similar problems installing a valid version of MS office Home and Student 2007 with error 1303.  No matter what I tried, I had no ability to change access/permissions to change ownership of the necessary folder C:\programfiles (x86)\common files\microsoft shared\equation\1033.  I tried a plug in reg program "GrantAdminFullControl" which was useless, and about 3 hours of google searching for solutions.  Also tried to totally disable UAC (successfully, but did not solve original problem).  Lots of reference to ms forum which says to simply change ownership/access control, which is all well and good if you can do it, which is typically not able (thus the original problem). This new windows 7 home premium (64-bit) pc came preloaded with ms works, so I thought the original ownership was microsofts.  Thinking I was smarter than the average bear, I opened control panel, programs and uninstalled ms works, as a hunch....uninstalled fine, but still no access to change my single login admin to change folder permissions.  So I finally figured it out....
Reboot into safe mode in any way possible (networking, prompt, etc).  Once in safe mode, go to the folder that is causing you the hassle, in my case it is listed above.  Once you are at the folder, right click and go to properties, get into the administrative folder for security and edit the permissions.  In safe mode I was able to take over full controls of all settings.  Click apply, then ok then close the folder.  Reboot normally, and you should (might!) have found the program now installs without the permission problem of your install folder.  I think the safemode boot with permission changes to any specific folder should provide a valid solution to whatever installation package fails with the "error 1303" message, as long as the error message tells you the problematic folder that needs change. Let me know if it works for you.

    Hi MAX22,
Even though it's your computer but your user account might not have sufficient privileges to install the software.
    Please try the following :
    > Enable the hidden Admin Account on Windows 7 ( Ref :  http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-wi ndows-vista/ )
Reboot and try installing in the new enabled Admin user account and check.

  • Sync error 1303

I've just got my first iPod, after many years of thinking "hmmm, everyone else has one, they must be good". Have to say at the minute i'm terribly disappointed!
I've imported my music collection (all fully-tagged MP3s), which I store on a network drive. I've also downloaded a few podcasts from iTunes.
When trying to sync with the iPod, I repeatedly get the "unknown error occurred -1303" message, which i've found relates to files being on different volumes (and so presumably linked to the network drives). However the drives definitely remain available, the connection is wired and there are no intermittent faults, and the drive is not spinning down or anything like that.
Sometimes I will get 5 files transferred before it breaks, other times I might get 100 done - seems totally random. It doesn't complain about any broken files, and i'm letting it automatically sync, though i'm not letting iTunes manage my music.
I've seen this error mentioned in the forums before, without any satisfactory response. So i'm hoping that someone might have a bright idea (note that i've just updated to iTunes 7.6, and it made no difference at all). Alternatively, a sensible way to contact Apple (or hear a response from them at least indicating exactly what the error means) about this would be handy - given that 0870 numbers will cost me 20p/minute I don't particularly want to call!
Really think the iPod could be nice, but if I can't sync it reliably then it's useless to me and will have to go back. Really hoping for a solution (or explanation) here so I can keep the thing!
    Cheers!
    David

    Just a quick update...
I saw the new firmware for the iPod today and though "yey they've probably fixed it". No such luck, added another couple of albums today and tried to sync them, and get exactly the same error: 1303.
    Absolute rubbish!

  • Error 1303 trying to install Adobe 9 on a Windows 7 computer...

    Hi,
So I just got a new Dell Inspiron 580 with Windows 7... I get the following error when I try and install it...
Error 1303.  The installer has insufficient privileges to access the directory: c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Resource\Font\PFM.  The installation cannot continue.  Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator.
I did right click the program and click "Run As Administrator" and still got this error.
Any ideas how to fix and get this installed?
    Thanks,
    Scott

I am having the same error on Vista.  I followed the instructions here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/329/329117.html
...(not noticing that that solution addressed the Program Data folder, not the Program Files folder), and it didn't work, but I wonder if a similar procedure on Program Files would work.  But I don't know anything about the Vista/Win7 security system, so I'm a little wary of trying it.  Would appreciate any thoughts.

  • Can't Install Blackberry Desktop Manager - error 1303

Trying to install desktop manager and I get error message  "Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to acces this directory: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\Blackberry\1003. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator."
I am running Windows 7, Home Premium, SP1.
Any ideas please?  I am the administrator.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I can find no formal reference to that error...perhaps you may have better luck searching:
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/microsite.do
    Otherwise, I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
You may need to use the actual administrator account or an account with admin rights, and/or use the Run As Administrator option.
    Good luck!

  • Adobe Error 1303.  The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory:

Adobe Error 1303.  The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Programs Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0 when trying to update Adobe Reader 10.01 on a Windows 7, 64-bit machine.  What I've found is that once I allow Adobe Updater to download updates, the 1.0 folder is created under ARM.  As long as I don't start the update, I can access this folder.  Once the update starts, if I try to access this folder I get an access denied message and the install fails with the Error 1303 message.  I've tried making myself the Owner of the folder, tried running KB947821, have disabled the Firewall and shut off the UAC, none of which works.  My guess is that there is a problem with the update itself changing the security.
Anyone have any other ideas beyond waiting for the next update, that will hopefully work better than this one?
    thanks!

  • CS4 *bug*: doesn't check folder perm's, causes Error 1303

Sigh. This may be helpful to someone. I've not found a simple way to report this to Adobe yet. Perhaps someone there will see this.
    At least on XP...
CS4's installer creates new folders owned by the "Administrators" group user.
But it does not check to see if that group has permission to create files and folders.
SO, if you're installing on a drive other than C:, there's a reasonable chance "Administrators" doesn't have the necessary permissions... and installation silently fails in strange ways.
In my case, the app installs fail without any explanation why unless you click "more" and read through the details. Even there it simply says "Error 1303. Not enough permission."... and when you look at the main folder you wouldn't know what the problem is unless you analyze in detail.
    Fix:
    a) Adobe's installer should check permission on the selected install folder and either fix it or tell the user
    b) You can go into security settings on your preferred folder, and ensure that the "Administrators" group has Full Permission.

Please remove me from your emails
