Error 1310 while installing itunes, config.msi folder missing, Vista home edition.

I get the following error when installing itunes 10.5.3 on my Windows Vista 32Bit premium home edition:
Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\Config.Msi\4361d.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory.
I cannot find the folder mentioned above.

I have the same problem. I've tried tons of ways to solve that. Finally I suceed today.
I closed all the antivirus and computer/device backup programs and elevate the pession of Config.Msi folder to the current user (by right clicking the folder, add the name of current account under security tab).
Then I reinstalled the updates, it worked fine.
I think one of those methods may be enough to solve the problem, but I'm not sure which is.

  • Can we install oracle 10g database on Windows Vista Home Edition?

Can we install oracle 10g database on Windows Vista Home Edition?

You didn't specify which Oracle10 Edition.
In the case of SE/SE one/EE, with a paid license Supported has a mean impact on production environments with paid licenses, since you wouldn't run on an unsupported platform facing the risk of being left without technical support from Oracle in case of an emerging issue.
For the XE Edition, this is not a certified combination, since the only certified editions are the Business, Enterprise, and the Ultimate editions, but you can try it, you don't have nothing to loose, supported, certified vs. unsupported in this case makes no difference since this XE is not supported either way (no patchsets, no bug fixes, no technical support from metalink), just an AS IS free software.
On the license agreement terms displayed when you download the XE software it states:
    "No Technical Support
Our technical support organization will not provide technical support, phone support, or updates to you for the programs licensed under this agreement."
    and
"THE PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE FURTHER DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS AND IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE."
In case someone would be able to win a trial against oracle due to damage from the use of this software, the amount paid at maximum is 1,000.00 USD, not enough to even pay the lawyer's lunches.
For the XE users the primary source of 'kind of support' is the oracle forums, either the installation forum, the general database or the specialized XE forum.
Of course if this is for your own personal use for learning and testing and there are no third parties you could damage by doing this and if you don't have a paid license for this installation you may try it, but don't expect the Enterprise Manager to behave as defined by the manual, most of it won't work since the Home Edition doesn't have the privileges required for EM to work.
If this is your personal computer and when you bought it the computer provider installed from factory Home Edition, and if you want something to work there, you can try to install a Virtual Machine and install Oracle 10g on a supported guest OS.

Edit: OMG, I fixed my own problem! I used the Windows Install Clean Up utility to FINALLY install iTunes 6. YAY Thanks, B, for your help in the past.
    Hi,
I've have been having the WORST time with installing iTunes. I was on this board a couple months ago, and B was helping me out. I got really busy with school, and I haven't been back since, so all my old posts have been deleted. Here's all the info on this problem -
I have downloaded iTunesSetup several times from Apple's web site. The installation runs fine until I get to the part where it says, "Removing registry values." Each and every time, which has been about 30 or so times now, my computer has a fatal error, and I have to restart it. I can never finish the installation process.
Here is what comes up on the blue screen -

I hope someone can tell me where to go from here. I just updated windows. I've run Adaware. I've even tried downloading and running a utility that is supposed to get rid of Error1704, but none of these things have helped.
    Please help, someone!

  • Having Runtime Error! while installing iTunes new version.

Error is R6034; An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.  My OS is Windows 7, and I cannot start or install iTunes any more!  I cannot start or install iTunes, which is very frustrating...

    Many thanks.
Error writing to file: C\Program Files (x86)\iTunes. Resources \it .lproj\iPod License .rtf . Verify that you have access to that directory
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Error 2356 While Installing iTunes 8.2

Every time I try to install iTunes, it gets right past the Quick Time setup and says:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2356."
I've redownloaded iTunes and even tried getting an older version, but it still doesn't work no matter what I do. I've called Apple Care and stayed on the phone with them for over an hour and they just told me to try uninstalling and deleting every file that has to do with Apple, QuickTime and iTunes. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated considering I can't put anything on my iPhone. :P

    -----EDIT-----
I have now included the log file for the iTunes installation. Hope it helps a little more:
    Download "Log.txt"

I did find a few other googles from itunes and 2356, but no answers. So you're not the ONLY person with this error, but a definite minority.
All I can suggest is trying to install it from another admin account with any security software such as Norton, Mcafee, etc turned off. Do the MSCONFIG thing, but make sure you have the latest Windows updates and turn off security software first. It's a valid install package for most folks, so something specific on your PC thinks it isn't.

Similar error (not SQL Express but Enterprise) on my network reveals the following issue (still prevalent after removing and re-adding the machine to the network):
The kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server host/machinename.domainname.local. The target name used was cifs/MACHINENAME. This indicates that the password used to encrypt the kerberos service ticket is different than that on the target server. Commonly, this is due to identically named machine accounts in the target realm (DOMAINNAME.LOCAL), and the client realm. Please contact your system administrator.
ALSO: The session setup from the computer MACHINENAME failed to authenticate. The name(s) of the account(s) referenced in the security database is MACHINENAME$. The following error occurred: Access is denied.
This default instance (Ent SQL 2008 on Ent Server 64 bit 2003 R2 SP2) failed with the MOF error using a service account to install SQL 2008.  Repair does not work.   "The SQL Server feature 'SQL_Engine_Core_Inst' is not in a supported state for repair, as it was never successfully configured. Only features from successful installations can be repaired. To continue, remove the specified SQL Server feature."
I expected to have more luck with the information here:  http://mark.michaelis.net/Blog/CategoryView.aspx?category=.Net but wound up with result seen in my next post.
Of note, tried the removal of leftover registry entries after a failed install as in link above, also removed sql folders prior to re-install. Error is the same and rather than list entire log here, there is a portion available below but as is evident, there is a permission error in the registry which verifies what mark michaelis has pointed out:
