Error 1321: Installer has insufficient privileges to modify a file to install Reader.
The problem is the location of the file in question that the error references: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\plug_ins\PPKLite.api. actually references Reader 10.0 subfolder that doesn't exist when I drill down into the Adobe folder. I only show a Reader 9.0 folder. I am looking for a step by step on how to correct the error and install the latest version of Reader.
Try using the cleaner tool http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
then download and run the full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Hello!
I am currently having issues installing iTunes on BOTH of my computers. One running Vista, the other, Windows 7.
(Not the same issues)
I used to have iTunes on my Vista (32bit), but when asked to update the software (The update prior to the newest one), I was not able to.
I dont exactly remember the error message.
Yesterday, I tried to install it again when I realized there was a new update.
I am receiving an error message while trying to install the software that says :
"The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: c:\program files\ common files \ apple \ apple application support \ webkit. resources \ inspector \ images \ warnings errors.png
I have tried almost everything I knew to do.
Downloaded itunes setup, extracted the files and tried to install them all separately.
Then I had issues UNinstalling Apple Support and Mobile devices!
Tried something with the registry (not too sure what. I read it on this website)
Tried to Force Uninstall EVERY bit of apple on the computer then try again, and to no avail.
I am a bit discouraged, because I have been trying for so long with both computers.
I even called applecare for help with Windows 7 computer. Spoke to one representative who forwarded me to another who could not help.
(Windows 7 itunes WILL install, but when I plug up my phone says I am not running 64bit itunes, which I am, and to reinstall. Then I was missing the Mobile device and would not let me separately install.)
I am a bit frustrated, and I'd appreciate all of the help I can get.
Thank You all in advance. For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I am trying to update and am getting this error message. Error 1321. The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file c:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Resource\Font\MinionPro-It.otf. I am the systems administrator so I am at a bit of a loss.
You need to log in as the administrator (seems like you are) and may need to disable anti-virus. You might want to copy the otf file and then uninstall that font, trying again.

I have Adobe Acrobat 10.0. I keep getting an error. Error 1321. The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:\Programs Files\Adobe\Acrobat10.0\Acrobat\rt3d.dll
How do I fix this issue? This happened after a forced update. This copy of Adobe has been running fine on the laptop for about a year and a half now all the sudden I am getting this error. Is the only fix to uninstall and reinstall?

8.1.6 install fails with Error 1321 Installer has insufficient privileges -
Adobe Reader “Check for Updates” identifies “Adobe Reader 8.1.6 (CPSID_49167)” as “Available”.
Installation fails with “Error 1321.The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\plug_ins\Search.api.”
Reboot tries to complete install adding unwanted desktop icon, but CPSID_49167 still shows as “Available” and MSI29706>LOG(s) show above error.
XP SP3 Home, IE7, Adobe Reader 8.1.5Thanx kashifMohd,
Downloaded the fix, vetted it, and before creating a new Administrator account used the following recipe with success:
1. Ran downloaded fix with usual Admin Account and got the “Error 1321 for Search.api.” as before, but now there is a pop-up asking "Retry" or "Cancel" that did not appear when using "Get Updates" function from running Adobe Reader. Replied "Cancel".
2. Rebooted, and disabled Kaspersky Anti-Virus.
3. Again ran downloaded fix with usual Admin Account and got Error 1321 for different file: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\plug_ins3d\3difr.x3d" with pop-up asking "Retry" or "Cancel".
4. Clicked "Retry" this time and installation completed successfully.
Thanx again. -
When I try to install itunes 10.5.2, I get the following error message "The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file c\progamfiles\itunes\itunes.exe and won't install. help
Okay ... so it's not one of the cases of bodged up ACLs on the Apple folder in Common Files. (That's been underlying a few of the recalcitrant E7W5s.

I am trying to download the free Adobe Reader and I get the message Error1321:The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader11.0\Readerwow_helper.exe. I do not know how to fix this.
Hi Koncar,
Kindly try the steps mentioned below.
1) Download the Adobe Reader.msi from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.00/en_US/
2) Run the .MSI for Reader and when you get the error click on Retry and installation would go trough.

When trying to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support: The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\com.apple.MobileSync.client.resources\ClientDescription50.plist.
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
After installation, I get:
"ITunes cannot run because some of tis required files are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
So when I try and reinstall I get "Repair" or "Remove". If I click either one I get:
"The Installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file: C:\ProgramFiles\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\iTunes\.icxs."

I cannot download itunes to my pc. I had it on a couple of months back but I could not update the software so i removed everything and tried to reinstall. I get a message that says "The installer has insufficient privaleges to modify this file. Then when I click that off it continues to download and says its complete and ready but when I try to open i get another message "error#7 itunes did not install correctly. Please reinstall. This is installing the latest verison of itunes, 10.5, and I get this message everytime I install. My PC is so messed up now from changing permissions that I'm looking for the quick and easy fix! I've tried everything that has to do with uninstalling and reinstalling but there's always folders that my computer won't let me delete so I can't ever completely get rid of itunes. I have also tried many things that have to do with regedit with no luck. PLEASE help!
The 'quick andeasy' are usually the most trouble with poor outcome and lost time.
Search with Google etc.

Some files need to be deleted manually.
Revo has been recommended. It does and can work around.
Apple's installers place files in non-standard locations on x64 which is a large part of the problem. But nothing that a normal install and person would need to changer ownership and special permissions.
I've also never in 6 yrs used any regedit but do run CCleaner (3.12) on regular basis.
Might be time to sit and spend a day, leave your system as is, and install on another partition or drive instead. If you want, use Windows Easy Transfer.
This is one of the longer threads about problems, not all same, not resolved for everyone:

Normally the Apple tech note tells you where to look to delete.
Apple installers leave behind the old installer and cache, which can be a problem.
iTunes has changed where things go without picking up its own mess it created and left behind. -
