ERROR 1327 invalid drive J:

I don't have a drive :J. I have called apple, read all forums and even went to apple support. What is going on? This happenes when i try to load the software that came w/ my Nano.

hi jmoney76!
Sort of. It seems very complicated (edit regisrty thing).
hmmm. the registry settings issue (the B solutions) is the next thing that needs to be checked up on if the drive letters are all in order.
do you have access to some technical support, or friends and family with registry-editing experience who you might be able to call on for some help with this?

  • MSI installer closes with error 1327, Invalid drive on Win 7 Ultimate when My Documents is moved to a network drive

I have several computers with Windows 7 Ultimate installed here at the Pioneer Library System. We have ~20 workstations running XP Pro on a Active Directory domain and are planning on rolling out Windows 7 this fall. I am running Windows 7 to test our programs
(have since RC1) but I am running into an issue when installing software.
The problem I am running into is that when I try to install any program that uses the MSI installer on Windows 7 , it fails with a 1327 error at the point where it is preparing to install and says "Invalid Drive H:\".
All the users in our domain have the "Home Folder" on their active directory profile set to
H:\ (which is mapped to \\PrimaryDC\user$ in the same place). We have also moved the
C:\Users\user\Documents folder to H:\ so as to keep all documents on the server where they get backed up regularly.
If I move "Documents" back to C:\Users\user\Documents the MSI installer works fine. When I look into the registry as suggested in
this thread I found that in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders " and in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders " the key "Personal" points to "H:\".
But, H:\ is a valid connected network drive. Installing from the same account on an XP computer with
C:\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents moved to the H:\ drive works fine.
I have tried setting up another 7 machine and get exactly the same results on it.
Is there a workaround for this besides creating a admin account that does not have Documents mapped to the network drive
H:\ to use for installing programs?
    Thanks

    PLS

I do not have the option with some of these files to pass parameters to the MSI installer. For example, if I download the Acrobat Reader installer from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3/enu/AdbeRdr930_en_US.exe and run AdbeRdr930_en_US.exe
it extracts the MSI file to C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Adobe\Reader 9.3\Setup Files and then runs it.
To reproduce this an a Windows 7 computer (does not have to be on a domain):
    Prep Work:
    Create a user (test1)
Create a folder on the root of C (C:\Test)
Set permissions on C:\Test to allow the test1 user to have full access to it
Share the C:\Test folder as test1 (again, set the permissions to allow the test1 user full access)
Set the "Home Folder" for the test1 user connect to Z: and point that to \\127.0.0.1\test1
    Login as test1
Check that you have Z:\ mapped and that it works
    Check that it works:
Install Acrobat Reader 9.3 from the link above
    Note that it works
Uninstall Acrobat Reader 9.3 using "Programs and Features"
    Break it:
    Login as test1
Check that you have Z:\ mapped and that it works
    Go to C:\Users\test1
Right  click on the Documents folder and click on properties
    Click on the Location tab
Click on "Browse" and select the Z drive
Allow Windows to move the files to the new location
    Check that it is broken:
Check that you have access to the new Documents folder at Z:\
Install Acrobat Reader 9.3 from the link above
Note that it extracts itself to C:\Users\test1\AppData\Local\Adobe\Reader 9.3\Setup Files
and runs the MSI installer from there
Note that after the MSI installer is started it pops up an error saying Error: 1327, Invalid drive Z:\.
I also see this with various other install programs (VMWare vSphere Client, VMWare Player and Kaspersky Antivirus for example)
Is there any reason why this should not work? Is there something that I should be doing differently?
    Thanks

  • Network drives and System Update updating itself (Error 1327.Invalid Drive)

I have a Windows network share permanently mapped as a network drive on my system. This prevents Lenovo System Update 5 from updating itself.
    Here is what happens:
Launch Lenovo System Update and click Next to look for updates.
When 'Searching for agent updates' it will tell me: 'System Update is updating itself. Your copy of System Update needs to be updated. Click OK to begin updating System Update.'
Click OK, Lenovo System Update will download the update and appear to install it.
At the end it will tell me: 'System Update was installed successfully'
Click Close, just to be sure I wait for a while so System Update can finish whatever it is doing in the background (if anything at all).
When nothing appears to happen I launch Lenovo System Update manually and it will tell me it needs to update itself again, and go to the same process as above. The update did not install successfully at all. System update keeps updating itself in a loop.
Next thing I tried is manually downloading the latest System Update version from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=TVSU-UPDATE
I downloaded systemupdate503-09-17-2013.exe for my Windows 7 machine.
The installer detects to old version of System Update and offers to uninstall that. I click Yes.
A moment later the real error appears: 'Error 1327.Invalid Drive: S:\'
The only thing I can do now is press OK to close the installer.
The S:\ drive is my network drive which is permanently mapped to a share on my NAS.
It is not an invalid drive, S:\ opens fine in Windows Explorer.
I don't know why the System Update installer wants to access my S: drive in the first place. All my applications are installed on C:. While I did move some special folders like My Pictures and My Videos to S:, the relevant folders My Documents and Desktop are still on C:.
I have found a workaround to the problem above:
Close Lenovo System Update completely when it says it needs to update itself.
Run Command Prompt as Administrator (find it in the start menu, righ-click it and 'Run as administrator').
Type 'subst s: c:\' without the quotes. Replace s: with the drive letter of your network drive, and c: should be an existing regular drive.
Now run Lenovo System Update again and let it update itself.
You'll notice System Update now restarts itself after updating and there are no problems.
Once you are done with System Update, type 'subst s: /D' to delete the substituted virtual drive. Don't worry, this will not delete your actual network drive.
The workaround does the job, but it would be nice to see an actual fix from Lenovo. I have a ThinkPad X230 running 64bit Windows 7 Professional if this is relevant.

Please try either of the workaround.
    1. Create a new Admin user, log on in that and then you can install Adobe Reader,
    or
    2. easier solution is just create a dummy folder on your machine anywhere, lets says Folder name "Dummy"  in c:\
    not go to command prompt
    and type subst I: c:\dummy
and you are all set to go.
once you are done, you can remove that virtual drive mapping by
    subst I:\  /d
please let me know if works.

Error 1327 invalid Drive: E:\ appears when I try to install adobe reader, can anyone help?

    Hi Coralienz,
Can you please check the value of the registry entries at the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
In case the values for any of the entries (i.e. Common AppData, Common Desktop, Common Documents etc.) is referencing to E:\, change the value back to look something like below and you should be good to go.

I received the error mentioned in the subject line when attempting to install iTunes v. 7.02
I received the same message when attempting to install the stand alone version of QuickTime
I was attempting to install both on my c drive. I don't even have an H drive on my machine.

  • Reinstall Premier Elements 11 after the original installation drive failed. Error 1327.Invalid Drive

I am attempting to reinstall Adobe Premier Elements 11 from DVD on a Windows 7 64bit system.  The drive that hosted my original instance has failed.  It was installed on a secondary drive, E that, sadly, is no longer with the system.  In the reinstall process I am removing the original instance, as seemes to be required, but I enconter the error "Error1327.Invalid Drive: E:\".
How do I proceed with getting Adobe Premier Elements 11 back on my system?
Note: Similar problem with Photoshop Elements, except that no errors are encountered, it just fails to launch as it appears to have pointers back to the failed drive.

You would have to manually edit that info from the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software and possibly also manually empty the Windows installer cache. Perhaps soem alternate "Uninstaller" like Revo can help you clean out this stuff...

  • HELP!  "Error 1327:  Invalid Drive G:/"

I see many postings about Error 1327, but no resolution to the problem. I don't even have or have ever had a G:/ drive and yet when I tried to update iTunes with version 7, that's the error I get midway through the download.
Does anyone have an actual solution to this problem? I'm not very computer savvy and have no idea what to do...before I try things that could make the problem worse, would like to know if anyone can help.
    THANK YOU!

Victory! Turns out all you need to do to fix this problem is rename the drive you are trying to download iTunes to...to match the drive the error says is invalid. In my case, I just renamed my drive to G:/ and it worked. I was able to download iTunes back on my external hard drive where it was located before the error showed up.
    Windows 2000 Users
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.
In the Computer Management tree, click Disk Management.
Right-click the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, or the drive that contains the operating system, and then click Change Drive Letter and Path.
Click Edit, and change it to the original drive letter. Click OK, and then click Close.
    Hope that helps!

  • Error 1327, Invalid Drive - Solution Found

I recently merged two partitions on my PC from C:\ and D:\ to just C:\ and started getting the 'Error 1327' message when starting iTunes. I tried upgrading, then uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes and continued to get the same error. The reinstall bombed out as well with the same error.
After much Googling and some hemming/hawing, I was able to find a fix to the problem:
What happened was that the 'My Documents' folder was on the D: partition, and Windows did not update the path change when I merged the partitions.
I figured this out while poking around in the registry looking for any references to the now gone D: drive and went to do a backup of the registry before mucking around. This fix does not involve changing the registry, however, as per the standard Windows disclaimer, any time you even think about maybe even considering the idea of looking at your registry, you run the risk of your system going explody.
    1) Go to 'My Computer' - there should be a folder called "xxx's Documents" up towards the top. If you don't see it, that's your problem.
    2) Open up the registry editor: Go to the 'Start' button, click on the 'Run' icon and type in 'regedit'
    3) In the registry editor, click on File --> Export
    4) You shoud get an error box that says something about not being able to find 'My Documents' with some stuff about right clicking on the 'My Documents' icon and changing the location. That's what your going to do.
    5) Click 'ok' and you should have a save dialog box in front of you with a 'My Documents' icon on it.
    6) Right click on the 'My Documents' icon and select 'Properties'
    7) Type in the correct path, or click the 'Restore Default' button to put the path back to C:\.....
    8) Go back to 'My Computer' and you should now see the folder mentioned in step 1)
This may work if you use some other programs such as Word instead of regedit, but I'm not sure.

  • Error 1327.Invalid Drive: E:\

We purchased the Macromedia Studio 8 Education package for my
school work in the hope for me to use far more advanced skills and
uptill this day has been working fine. However with me giving this
laptop back I am forced to put it back to it original state. This
    means taking the software off.
With the operating systems being XP I accessed the Add/Remove
section in Control Panel and chose first of all to remove Flash.
Then I met this code (The Message Title). Unsure what it was I went
onto the rest of the software and all produced the same message. I
could really do with some quick assistance as ideally this needs to
    go back within the week.
    Thank You For Any Help

I had a similar problem, except my error message said invalid drive letter D:\.
Since I have no "D" drive, I right clicked on "My Computer" and chose "Manage".
I then went down to "Storage" and clicked on "Disk Management".  I have
a second hard drive, but it is assigned to letter "I" (dont ask) so I right clicked on
the "I" drive and chose "change drive letters and paths".  Next, I selected letter D
then clicked "OK", then clicked the other "OK", closed out of Computer Management
    and restarted the installation.
No problems after that!  After the installation, I changed the letter back to "I" (which
you don't have to do, but it was my preference).
I hope this helps, because it worked wonders for me!!

  • Error 1327.invalid drive: C:\ when trying to install

My computer crashed a while back and when I set up the new drive, the new root drive is "G:\"  instead of "C:\".  how can I get palm software to setup on "G"? if that is what I need to do.
    Post relates to: Palm m500

    What to do
You can use the "subst" DOS command to substitute the drive letter C: for the actual system drive.
Determine the drive letter of your system drive. If you did not set up your computer yourself, you may need to contact your IT department or a PC expert for help.
Close all running application on your PC, including the Palm Desktop installation wizard.
From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
Type cmd and click OK. Note: if you are using Windows 98 or 95, type command instead.
The command window appears. Type subst c: {system drive letter}:\ where {system drive letter} is the drive letter of the bootable or system drive on your Windows PC. For example, if your system drive is P:, the command would look like subst c: p:\
    Hit Enter.
    Close the command window.
Install the Palm Desktop software. It should work now.
