  • Iphone Unknown Error 40 stuck in recovery mode

    Hi,
My question is... if my iphone is stuck in recovery mode and I return it to the shop I bought it from and they give me my money back/replace it etc, if they then do get the phone to work will they be able to see all my data/photos/messages etc? Or will it only restore personal data if the phone is restored from my itunes?
I updated my Iphone 4 via Itunes yesterday and it's now stuck in recovery mode, every time I try to restore the phone it gets to "waiting for iphone" then Unknown error 40 appears.
I have tried the suggestions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
I am going to take it to the apple store genius next week, but first am returning it to the shop I bought it from as they want to see if they can fix it (it was unlocked when I bought it, they claimed it was an apple unlocked phone but I am concerned it was in fact unlocked by them and this is why I am having problems).  Hence my question being, will they be able to restore it to my data without access to my itunes to back it up from?  Will it just be a factory setting reset if they fix it (which I'd prefer)?
    Thanks in advance!
    C

    Hi Fkaram,
Sorry to say I haven't found a solution (after hours of searching!) and have bought an android moto g. The only difference from yours is that I replaced the dock connector as I kept getting error 4014, which turned it on after being off for three weeks, and then went to error 40.
If you haven't got a warranty, I can only suggest replacing the dock connector. Its cheap (£5) and pretty easy to fix. I only tried this because changing the leads didn't work, but I kept getting the faulty leads error (4014+40)
    Good luck!
ps - check for any bent pins or if there is a red/coloured light in the connector itself. I didn't see any bent pins so was lucky the replacement actually did something

  • Help iPhone 4s could not restore (error 1) - stuck in recovery mode

I thought I had successfully converted from iPhone 3g to 4s could not connect to att phone service.  To reinstall, I reset to iPhone 4s to restore factory settings. software downloaded successfully, but after install completes I get a message that iPhone 4s could not restore (error 1).  Followed by message that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode and that I can restore original setting bu clicking Restore.  Doing that reats the problem  After 10 attempts, I am frustrated.  Itunes no longer shows capacity, software version or serial number for iPhone .  Lists those as n/a.  Need help

Unfortunately the restore did not solve the connectivity problem, but it made it even worse. The phone was not connecting to the carrier at all, constantly showing "Searching...". I tried another restore, this time it failed on three different computers (one of them was a fresh iTunes installation)... Strange, that it worked once.
@Unshaven: Multiple combinations of Power and Home button did not work either. Seems to be bricked now. I think I have to return it to Apple ...
Btw. Windows iTunes showes some log errors like 'getenv radio-error' failed and DoesDriverNameMatchDeviceID failed.
Any ideas welcome also regarding the issue of loosing connectivity to the carrier...

  • Updating IOS Failed and stuck on recovery mode

i'd tried to update my iphone 4 ios 7.0.4 to 7.1, but it gave error and stuck on recovery mode i tried to restore it to previous ios but failed again, anyone have idea what i should do to restore iphone to previous ios or ios 7.1 ...

You can't restore to a previous iOS. Try this procedure:
Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.

Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. Also, discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user. If the issue remains, Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194

ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help

Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

  • Ipod touch is stuck in recovery mode with a error code 9

my ipod touch is stuck in recovery mode and when i try to restore it getting an error code 9

Error 9: This error occurs when the device unexpectedly drops off the USB bus and communication stops. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB isolation troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
