Error 1401 deploying Template in SCVMM 2012 R2 RU2

I got the following error when i deploy a new created template with App Controller and VMM 2012 R2 RU2.
1401–SelfServiceActionNotAllowed
The template is a converted vhd from wim with Powershell. It is located on an library server in VMM. I can choose the template in App Controller and after 3 to 10 Seconds the job fails.
If i deploy an template that was imported long time ago (before install of 2012 R2 RU1) i´m able to complete deployment.
Can someone help with some information?!

I found the Solution by my self in the following link: TechNet Library
When you create templates for self-service users, be aware of the following changes in VMM:
◦ In VMM, the concept of a "self-service owner" for a template no longer exists. A template that is to be shared by members of a self-service user role should have no owner assigned. When a template with no owner is assigned to a self-service user role that has the Author, Deploy, or Deploy (Template Only) action assigned to it, all members can use the template. However, when an owner is assigned to the template, only the owner can use the template
With an Update of VMM they changed the behavior. I Changed the Owner to a Global AD-Group and now i can sucessfull deploy templates.

  • Deploy VMs with SCVMM 2012 R2 with Internet connection

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to use SCVMM 2012 R2 to create a network that will eventually hold 2 clouds, but for the moment I can't seem to create the network and connect the VMs to the Internet.
My lab is this (all hosts are in a LAN, 192.168.0.0/24, gateway 192.168.0.1, and ONLY ONE NIC per HOST ):
1 host DC, DNS, SQL, SCVMM 2012 R2 (IP 192.168.0.8)
    2 hosts with Hyper-V (IP 192.168.0.9 and 192.168.0.10)
I'm also planning to create some "virtual" networks for clustering and live migration, which will use the same physical NICs as the management network (since I have only one physical NIC per host).
Could you please give me a quick guide of how to set this up with SCVMM 2012 R2, so that I can take advantage of the new features (network virtualization, logical networks, logical switch) and for the VMs to be able to reach the Internet?!
    Thank you so much.

    Thanks for the reply.
My network architecture is exactly like the one described on your paper, with 2 differences:
    1. I only have one host in the Production group and one host in the Gateway group
    2. The first host has one physical NIC, the second host has 2 NICs, one internal and one with an Internet (routable) IP
After applying the logical switches on the hosts, I lost Internet connectivity on the gateway host (I have no idea why there is no logical Gateway Switch !!!). VMM completed the jobs with no error.
    Any thoughts?

the same package is successfully deployed from my colleague machine.
    Mano

    Hi Manon,
According to the error message, the packages that cannot be deployed should include Script Task/Component. But the package that can be deployed without problem include Script Task/Component, right? If so, the issue should occur because certain Visual Studio
Tools for Applications (VSTA) Runtime has been installed:
Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Application x64 Runtime3.0
Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Application x86 Runtime3.0
You can check it from the Programs and Features panel. Then, you can install the exact VSTA Runtime from the
\redist\VSTA\runtime\ folder of the SQL Server install media.

  • SCVMM 2012 SP1 (RTM) Deployment from VMM Console fails.

Error During a library refresh, or deployment from template - It all fails:
    Error (12710)
VMM does not have appropriate permissions to access the Windows Remote Management resources on the server (MyServer).
    Unknown error (0x80338105)
    Recommended Action
    1) Ensure that the Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service is running on the server (myserver).
    2) If the System Center Virtual Machine Manager service on your VMM management server is configured to run by using the machine account, ensure that there is not a group policy that does not allow adding machine accounts to a computer's Administrators group.
If there is, you can use one of the following workarounds:
      - Disable the group policy in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)
      - Modify the group policy to allow the VMM machine account in the Administrators group
      - Move the machine account to its own organizational unit (OU) and block the group policy from being applied
      - Reinstall the VMM management server and choose the option to run the System Center Virtual Machine Manager service by using a domain account, and re-add all of your virtual machines.
So, as soon as SCVMM 2012 Sp1 was released we decided that it was best to upgrade so we could utilise the new features of Server 2012 as a host.
The upgrade worked a treat. VM's deployed, Server 2012 worked. Anyway, a few days after deployment we start to see errors relating to WinRM and permissions (See end of the post). After a quick trace around we found some failed services, usually on a host
but sometimes it seemed to happen on the Library/Management server as well.
So, our setup is as follows:
    Management/Library server = VMware  VM, Server 2012 standard, 6 GB memory, 4 vCPU's
Hosts = HP DL360p G7, HP DL360 Gen8 (we have a few of these), Server 2012. We also have a DL380 G7 on Server 2008 R2 Enterprise that fails as well, so it seems the error isn't O/S specific (I'm picking a VMM issue).
So I have tried many resolutions and now none of them work.
We have no restrictions on group policy for the local admin, this can be set manually, and works for that matter.
WinRM is working and the listening port is 5985 (I can see it working and listening via a "netstat -an")
Also, I have ensured many many times that all of the required services are up and running (SCVMMAgent, VirtualDisk managerment, WinRM) and initially these where at fault and a simple restart of each service (or even a full start from dead) fixed
it - Now it all fails. Even a library refresh fails. And all while each of the services required are up and running.

So, I have now tried a reinstall of the management server & made some changes
1- Changed the service account during the install.
2 - Added the service account user to the local admins group of each host in question.
3 - Tried "winrm /qc" .which lets me know its already up and running and configured. Although I must admit, I'm not 100% sure how to use WinRM. From what I can read, this is like an express setup and ensures you are up, running and listening.
4 - Verified that WinRM is working of the right port (Listening ports dump below)
5 - Verified that I can connect to each port required for the SCVMM Management server.
BUT, it seems the error is still there and deployments still fail,
although the library refreshes correctly now.

  • SCVMM 2012 RC - Unable to remove a VHD in the library because it has a dependency (Virtual Hard Disk deployment configuration)

When attempting to delete a VHD in the library, I am getting the below error message. Any thoughts on where I might look for the dependency "Virtual Hard Disk deployment configuration"?
    Exact error message:
The library object (os_disk) cannot be removed because following objects are dependent on it:
    Virtual Hard Disk deployment configuration
Please ensure that no objects are dependent on this library object and try the operation again.
    ID: 848

On the final version (tested in 2012 SP1)
Suggest this instead of hacking around in the database:
You will receive a message that objects are dependent on the library object. Note the name that is listed after "VM Template"
    Go to powershell in scvmm
    Run:
    remove-scvmtemplate -vmtemplate "NAME_YOU_RECORDED_FROM_ERROR"
Then, you can delete the template from SCVMM,

    Error (26571)
Cannot refresh the Windows file server storage provider (IP) because the storage provider has atleast one file server that has not been successfully created yet.

It's easier for us to help once we know the following:
1)what have you done so far
2)what are you trying to do?
Have you deployed a scale-out file server cluster with VMM? How many nodes is it in the cluster?
Or have you simply added a single Windows File Server to your VMM fabric? Can you take a look at the provider in VMm and see if there are any more details around the problem?

  • Templates in SCVMM 2008 R2 and SCVMM 2012 R2

    Hi Experts,
I have few questions regarding VM Template creation using SCVMM.
    1. What is the difference between VM templates in SCVMM 2008 R2 and SCVMM 2012 R2 ?
    2. I could not see the three folders (Snapshots, Virtual hard disks and Virtual Machines) of SCVMM 2008 R2 template in a template created using SCVMM 2012 R2. Only the vhd files are present in the template. What about the config.xml file?
    3. Can we customize the config.xml for our VM installations?
    4. Do we need to sysprep a VM or vhd file before creating a Template ? If yes, how to do it ?
    Thanks,
    Saleem

The reason that I am confused is that you should not have gotten a config.xml file, even with VMM 2008.
The only time that SCVMM ever saved that (that I recall) is when a VM was stored to the Library, which is a different action than creating a template.
All of the template settings are stored in the SCVMM database.  If you have a custom unattend.xml that is merged with the one that SCVMM generates on the fly at deployment time, then that is stored in the Library.  But the one that SCVMM generates
based on the OS Profile is never physically save in the Library.  SCVMM always uses an unattend.xml whenever a Windows OS template is deployed.

  • Unable to install SCVMM 2012 - MSI error 1638

    Hi Folks,
I am getting an installation error whilst trying to install the new version of SCVMM 2012.  I had an earlier version (2010 I think) install which I removed via Programs and Features (also removed database, share and program directories).
When I try and install the new version the log file shows
    Note: 1: 1729
Product: Microsoft Web Deploy 3.5 -- Configuration failed.
Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Microsoft Web Deploy 3.5. Product Version: 3.1237.1762. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Reconfiguration success or error status: 1638.
I assume that there are probably some left over registry settings or something, does anyone know how I can clean out the old system properly or fix the issue?
    Regards
    Andy

Manually uninstall the "Microsoft Web Deploy 3.5" first from the "Programs and Features" works for me.

  • Errors Performing V2V Conversions from ESX 5.5 to Hyper-V 2012 R2 using SCVMM 2012 R2

I've successfully added my vSphere server and 2 ESXi 5.5 hosts to my SCVMM 2012 R2 server.
    I have also added my 2 Hyper-V 2012 R2 hosts as well.
When I attempt to do a V2V conversion of a VM from 1 of my ESX hosts to Hyper-V, I receive - "Error (2901) The operation did not complete successfully because of a parameter or call sequence that is not valid. The parameter is incorrect."
When I go into the details of the job in VMM it shows "1.4 Convert VMDK to virtual hard disk - Failed" and "1.4.1 Deploy file (using HTTP) - Failed"
Any help resolving this would be appreciated.
Also, I can do V2V conversions using the same ESX and Hyper-V hosts without any issues using Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 2.0, but my manager wants me to use VMM.
    Thanks!

Quite honestly, building fresh on the platform and migrating the apps / services is always the best way to go
PlateSpin was the last product I knew that had a Linux conversion utility.   Even found this:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/enterprise_admin/archive/2010/04/26/hyper-v-linux-p2v-with-platespin.aspx
No idea the current status of PlateSpin.  They were the gold standard back in 2008.
But honestly, it can be painful.  It all depends on the hardware now.
With Hyper-V the end boot device is IDE - so if the machine now runs on SCSI, the boot loader pointers need to be modified (if you can find a tool to bring the disk forward).
Now, that said.  Hyper-V can convert a physical disk to VHD.  That is a stealth feature that has been there from the beginning.  I can't recall if it is block by block, or if the file system must be known for the copy to succeed.
You mount the disk on the Hyper-V Server and create a new VHD from a physical disk.
The biggest issue with the conversion utilities is that Windows does not know the Linux file systems.  So you need some Linux tool to do it.
I know that VMware had a converter that handled Linux - but again, you have to manually fixup the hardware in the boot menu.

  • SCVMM 2012 R2 deploy network problem

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up the network on SCVMM 2012 R2 according to the several documentation and I'm finding a problema trying to deploy my simple design.
Basically I need to create two network environments completelly isolated from each other. The servers have one NIC connected to these networks, and what I have configured is two logical networks with some networks sites, the uplinks and logical switch, there
is a Virtual network per logical network to connect the VMs... all seems to be ok, I add this two logical networks to the hosts but when I want to configure the networking in the virtual machine, I only see one logical network, I can't choose the environment
    I want... I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
    Thanks in advanced...

"How should I configure networking in SCVMM to allow one virtual machine to connect to the same subnet using two network interfaces?"
You can achieve this by simply adding multiple vNICs to a VM - connected to the same VM Network.

    Hi Hasan,

The usual caveats about editing the registry apply, including make a backup first.

If VM is offline, storage migration always succeeds. Live (non-storage) migration always succeeds.
I noticed in the error message that it searches for cluster resource name "SCVMM test-vm" and for some VMs I've got different cluster resource names.
Like for this VM cluster resource names are:
    Virtual Machine test-vm
    Virtual Machine Configuration test-vm
Furthermore, those resource names are showing up correctly in [VirtualManagerDB].[dbo].[tbl_WLC_VMInstance] table, columns VMResource and VMConfigResource.
Anyone knows why SCVMM keeps searching for "SCVMM test-vm" and how to fix this without recreating cluster resources?

Ok, you have the same problem and same configuration that this post:
