Error 1402 attempting to uninstall PS Elements 6

I am trying to uninstall PhotoShop Elements 6 in order to upgrade to PS Elements Premier 9.  Like a multitude of other Adobe product users and other install, uninstall and upgrade attempts for a variety of Adobe products, my PSE 6 uninstall efforts all fail with an Error 1402.Could not open <registry> key: <in this case> HKEY_CURRENT_USER32\Software\Classes\PhotoshopElements.Application.6\shell\launch.  According to its header, this message is being issued by Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 - Setup.
The single instruction on this pop-up is "Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."  My userid has ADMINISTRATOR authority for my system, so my only option is to 'contact support personnel', which apparently are only reachable through these forums.
Like many others who have reported Error 1402 and similar registry-oriented errors, I too am runing Windows Vista with 64-bit capability.  I don't know if that is truly relevant or not, but 'support personnel' certainlly should know that by now, as these problems have been reported against many Adobe products since 2006.
What I can tell you is that my registry does not contain any keys that are qualified by 'USER32'.  I have only 'USER', no 'USER32' in my registry.  That begs the question:  Why, then, is PSE 6 Setup EXPECTING a key with a USER32 qualifier?
Also, when I press 'OK' - the only option from the aforementioned pop-up - the text in the next Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 - Setup screen states:  "The wizard was inerrupted before Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 could be completely installed."  Is Adobe's Install Wizard confused?  I am trying to UNinstall PSE 6, not INSTALL it.  Or is this just a poorly worded generic, catch-all panel that just adds to an already confusing situation?
I am extrely disappointed that AFTER FOUR YEARS a company with the stature of Adobe has been unable to fix this problem once and for all or at the very least provide step-by-step cookbook instructions on how to deal with it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Adobe support, give me a quick and accurate fix for this problem!  If such instructions already exist, please point me to them, because from my perspective this problem is so generic that it is impossible to nail down with a forum search argument.
Thank you.

    Hi everyone,
We recently migrated all of our users from Site A to Site B. Now, I'm trying to remove the Exchange mailbox servers that were in Site A, since we're going to be decommissioning the site. All of these mailbox servers have been removed from the cross-site
DAG, and all other services have been moved over to Site B as well (mail flow, CAS, etc). However, when I try and uninstall Exchange from any of the seven mailbox servers (I've tried it on two so far, with the same result), I get the following error at Step
    7 of 11:
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();

If I exit the Uninstall sessions, and then reboot in order to try again, it just states "An incomplete installation was detected. Run setup to complete Exchange installation." It appears that all Exchange files are still on the server too, however,
the server in question is no longer listed in the EAC under the "Servers" section.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
According to this error, this issue may be caused by legacy PF database replicas and legacy Mailbox
store pointing to the PF database. Please try to delete the legacy PF database container from ADSIedit.msc, the run setup and reboot the server to solve this issue.
The path in ADSIedit should be like this:
    CN=Mailbox Database ,CN=Databases,CN=Exchange Administrative Group ,CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Your company name, CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Your company name,DC=com
Please collect other relative events in Application logs for troubleshooting.

  • How to overcome Error 1402 on Reader 9.3 installation?

I am getting Error 1402 attempting to install Reader 9.3.  It points to registry problem in Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current version\Run\Optional Components\IMAIL
I have read instructions to correct error 1402 but I am still having problems.  Adobe Reader does not appear in the Add/Install section of the Control panel.  I have used Regedit to look at the above registry key.  I can get all the way to the end where IMAIL appears.  But I do not know what to do at that point.  I am fearful of damaging the registry file until I know precisely what to do.  Can someone please step me through the instructions so that I can correct the problem?
    Thank you.
    Steve

Steve - I've spent weeks on this and most recently hours tonight.  I finally got it through changing the permissions and owners in the registry.  I could not find the post of the person who posted instructions for changing the registry.  After tweaking it worked.  I have Windows 7, 64-bit, Firefox 3.63, Adobe Reader 9.2.  For error 1402 - the error says MACHINE32 but it is a misprint - it is actually MACHINE.  I think that since I have 64-bit I had to add:  "Wow6432Node" between SOFTWARE and Microsoft in the location given in the error message to find the Run\OptionalComponents\MSFS, IMAIL, and MAPI.
    Run regedit.exe
    Find MSFS, IMAIL, and MAPI
In each change the permissions to full control of CREATOR OWNER, Administrator, Administrators, Users (my name), SYSTEM
Change OWNER in each of those 3 to SYSTEM
Change OWNER in OptionalComponents to SYSTEM
I was sure to click "APPLY" any time I made a change.  When done, I successfully updated to Reader 9.3.
Some of these changes may be unnecessary - but I didn't know which ones - so I changed them all.
I am the only one using my computer and I don't know if these settings should not be used if the computer is shared.
Good luck to all who are having this problem.  I hope this works for you.  Over the past few weeks I've had to shut down the computer & when turning it on, press F8 to USE THE LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION since I thought I might have screwed up the registry - and then I'd try again.  Don't give up!

One thing that can be done to clean Registry values is to run a Registry cleaner, like CCleaner. I would strongly suggest that you first manually create a System Restore Point, and then take advantage of CCleaner's offer to create a Registry backup, just in case. Run it several times to clean out all vestiges of PrE 1.0.
Also, getting back to the problems with PrE 1.0 and burning, please list the full specs. on your system. It is likely that what caused the burns to fail in the earlier version will still be there, and cause problems with PrE 8 too. Pay special attention to your I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, amount of defragmented free space, controller type and how they are allocated.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - are you running as Administrator? You should be.
Also, when you go to install, make sure that all AV, pop-up blocking and spysweeping software is turned OFF, along with all Windows firewalls, etc.

  • Can't sync / uninstall / reinstall BB DM v4.7 - Windows Vista error 1402.

I am running BlackBerry Desktop Manager v4.7 on Windows Vista Business. I was having no problems with the program until I downloaded the update that was recently published (build 59, date of publication 2009-06-05, size 111Mb). I downloaded this update through the Automatic Update feature in the program.
The update downloaded fine and went through the stages of installation until it stopped very near the end and gave me the following message:
Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PDXlator.ConnectorManger\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
It then “rolled back” the installation and closed the installer. Since then my PC has not recognised my BlackBerry meaning I can no longer sync relegating my BlackBerry to the status of phone and nothing more. When I realised that my PC was not recognising my BB I tried to do a system restore but there were no dates available before the date of the attempted update installation.
I have tried to uninstall the software and it gives me the same error message (Error 1402). I have downloaded the newest version of the software directly from the RIM website and tried to install it over the old version with the same result - Error 1402. I then tried installing the program “For all users of this machine” this gave the following:
Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Connectors\ISGroupwise6.5.X\GW.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024891. Contact your support personnel.
I hit ignore and it gave me four or five other messages which were very similar.
After that it stated that it was registering the modules and stayed at about 98% (on the bar) for over 60 mins until I quit the install.
I have tried changing the permissions/deleting the registry key referenced in Error 1402 but that gives me a message saying:
    CLSID cannot be opened:
An error is preventing this key from being opened.
    Details: Access is denied
I have transferred the ownership of the key (identified in Error 1402) into my user profile and made sure I have all permissions but still nothing changes.
Also, I have tried all of the steps outlined above in the administrator account and nothing is different.
If anyone has any ideas of how I might be able to address this issue, it'd be very much appreciated.
    Cheers.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi tmayer,
I know how you feel. Frustrated as all hell I bet.
I managed to solve my problem by running a fix (I'll show below) however, you should know that doing this has unregistered my copy of MS Office! I can still use Office but it tells me that it is not a genuine copy and sends me to the MS website at every opportunity. For me this has been a worthwhile tradeoff (at this stage) but I wanted you to be fully informed before you try anything I suggest. I will try and reinstall Office again when I have time which should remove this issue, but no guarantees.
Anyway, here's a link to the fix I used- hxxp://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-fix-desktop-manager-error-1904-a-54700/
(need to change hxxp for http)
A couple of things with this fix:
Step 6, says that the tool will take "several minutes to run". It took well over an hour on my machine so don't exit too early thinking it's frozen.
And, there was one line of code in step 7 that I had to alter slightly but I can't remember which. Basically, when you are running the SubInACL in the DOS prompt you start typing the keys in and one wasn't recognised. I'm not 100% sure which one it was but I've highlighted the one I think I had to change.
    - Navigate to the directory that the DLL files are in and register them.
Type cd C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Connectors\ISGroupWise6.5.X\ and hit enter.
Type regsvr32 gw.dll and hit enter
    Type gwapi.dll and hit enter
Type cd C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Desktop Setup\ and hit enter
Type regsvr32 DesktopSetup_pb.dll and hit enter
Type C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\IS71 Action Engine\ and hit enter
Type regsvr32 SyncAE_pb.dll and hit enter
I think I typed regwapi.dll instead and that workd for me.
Well I hope that this fix works for you. Good luck.

  • Acrobat Pro won't install: Error 1402: Could not open key on install attempt

I've been stuck in install hell for the past week. Here's my issue: I have Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium and want to install it on a PC running MS Vista, but when I attempt an install, I cannot install Adobe Acrobat 8.
Reading the event viewer, I get the following type error:
Product: Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional -- Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{8AD0743E-113B-4E26-BA21-1E9A71098F41}\InprocSe rver32. System error 5. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Here's the problem: I'm basically playing whack-a-mole. Each time I go into regedit to change the registry permission for the named folder and attempt to install again, I get a new error saying that the Adobe install software could not open some other key. Each install attempt takes 15-20 min, and I must have done this 20+ times over the past week.
I've done all the obvious things like uninstalling everything Adobe (including my browsers Flash plug-in), running the CS3Clean software, running Vista in selective start-up, running setup as an administrator, barking at the moon, ect.
All the affected permission issues some to reside in the CLSID folder, but there is no way for me to set the permissions there and have them apply to all the subfolders without getting some sort of "whatever, we do what we want" error.
I'm at my wits end here. I've posted this to the Adobe customer support page, and four days after the supposed 25 hour turn-around, I still have yet to hear from Adobe. Any help would certainly be appreciated.

i suggest a best way to solve this maan,
    follow this,
create a new administrator user on your xp,
log off current user n log on to new admin user,
    install yr program,
    and
log off this admin user n log on to previous user,
n continue to use yr installed program

  • Tried to Uninstall PS Elements 9.  Got Error 1316.  Now I can't run or uninstall program

I bought PS Elements 12. I started to install PS Elements 12 and realized I needed to uninstall PS Elements 9 for space.  I got an "error code 1316 A Network error while attempting to access C:/windows/installer/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 9.MSI"  So, the uninstall failed.  Now the program will not run or uninstall.
I rolled back to Windows 7 Pro system to before I attempted to uninstall.  Still no luck.  I tried to reinstall frim the disk but it will only try to uninstall the PSE 9 - it will not give me an option to install.  I cannnot find anything on line and the Chat people told me to contact Adobe.come/support and that is not working ( I find Adobe the least friendly of all the software I use).
Can anyone help with the uninstall?
    Thanks,

From your description, it sounds like you are working with Photoshop Elements 9 (photo editor) and not Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 (video editor).
If that is correct, you have posted in the wrote forum. You want the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum.

  • Error 1402 refers to a non-existent key.  Can't install or uninstall to fix printer driver issues.

I can't install or uninstall Acrobat 9.5.3. I keep getting Error 1402, which states that I don't have permission to modify a key that doesn't exist in RegEdit: \UNKNOWN\Components\Lots of numbers. Even Revo Pro can't uninstall it.
I am trying to fix a problem with converting documents from Word. The process stalls because Acrobat can't find its printer drivers. The suggested solution is to uninstall and reinstall. I can't do either.
    Many thanks for your help.

The dead end is the error message (1402) that Acrobat can't modify the key: UNKNOWN/Components/Lots of numbers. It lacks permission.  The process stops and rolls back all changes. However, this weird key can't be found using RegEdit.
I'm using Windows 7 Home Pro 64-bit. I can't find any PDF*.dll files in System 32 or SysWow64. How can I put them there?

Please, does anyone could help me with this problem? What should I do? , How to be solved?
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

Curtis and Gene - I had problems with Adobe reader 8, crashes and same error (invalid plugin detected) after installing SP1 on Vista. I replaced Adobe reader with the newer 8.1.2 and that seems to have fixed it (as well as supposedly remedying other security exposures). You have to de-install your current Adobe version first, before attempting to download and install 8.1.2. BTW, it failed the first time with a nasty message and crash ( possibly because I hadn't de-installed the older version first) but succeeded nicely on the second try.

  • Cannot uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8...keep getting "Error 1402" message..

Hello. I use Windows XP Home Edition. I am trying to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8 so I can then install version 9, but I am not able to uninstall 7.0.8. During the uninstallation process, I get the following error message:
*****Error 1402. Could not open key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{C523F39 F-9C83-11D3-9094-00104BD0D535}\Programmable.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.*****
I went to another forum and asked for some help there...the guy there gave me some steps to follow, and I did so. Here they are:
    1. Deleted "Adobe Reader Speed Launch" shortcut from Startup folder.
    2. Deleted the Adobe folder (which contained 2 other folders: Acrobat 6.0 and Acrobat 7.0) from C:\My Computer\Local Disk\Program Files. I had to use a separate program (provided by my helper who gave me these steps to follow) called "Unlocker" to accomplish this, since, originally, when I tried to delete this Adobe folder, I would get a message saying "Cannot delete pdfshell.dll: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." Unlocker solved this problem, and was able to delete the Adobe folder.
    3. Rebooted machine
    4. Ran CCleaner's registry cleaner
    5. Rebooted machine again
    6. Tried using CCleaner's "Uninstall" utility to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8. When I tried this, I got the same "Error 1402" message as listed above.
    7. Backed-up my registry
    8. Tried to just delete this particular offending key using RegEdit...but when I tried, I got a message saying this:
    *****ERROR DELETING KEY
Cannot delete Programmable: Error while deleting key.*****
I really need some assistance with this...at the moment, Adobe Reader 7.0.8 still seems to be installed on my machine (it's still listed in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel, and it still shows up in CCleaner's Uninstall Utility)...despite the fact that, as I mentioned above, I used Unlocker to delete the Adobe folder from Program Files. Also, at this moment, no pdf files will open on my machine...so this is quite an urgent situation. Does anyone know what else I should do now? Is there something I need to do regarding the "Permissions" for this particular registry key?
    I appreciate anyone's assistance...thanks.

Hi..I went ahead and ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I used it to remove "Adobe Reader 7.0.8." After doing this, I checked in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel to make sure that AR 7.0.8 was gone, and it thankfully was. Then I deleted the WICU, ran CCleaner's registry cleaner, rebooted, and tried to install Adobe Reader 9.0. When I tried this, I got the following error message (this occurred during the time when the installer was "writing system registry values"):
    *****ADOBE READER 9 INSTALLER INFORMATION
Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\CLSID\{C523F39 F-9C83-11D3-9094-00104BD0D535}\ProgID.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.*****
What should I do now? Do I need to do something about the "permissions" for this key?
    Thanks to anyone with advice...

When I opened and started to work in LightRoom 5.6 on my Windows 7 64-bit PC a notification was displayed in a popup alerting me that a newer version, version 5.7 was available and asked me if I wanted to install it.  I clicked yes, and was taken to an Adobe page to download the upgrade.  So far, so good.  The 976MB “Lightroom_5_LS11_win_5_7.exe” file successfully downloaded.  Sadly, when I attempted to run this exe, it failed to complete, displaying the following error message in a popup.

While the exe file provided by Adobe did not harm my existing LR 5.6 installation, I “think” I would like to install their Automatic Update, but am unable to do so.

    Hi psale,
Try to right click on the installer, and choose Run as Administrator.
    See if that helps.
Otherwise this looks like a permissions issue, perhaps you don't have write access to your registry?
Try creating a new admin user, and see if you can complete the install successfully there: Create a user account - Windows Help
    Hope this helps,
