Error 1413 "An unknown error has occurred"....Can't update/restore my nano!
When I try to update or restore my nano, i get the error message "An unknown error has occurred" followed by error number 1413. I've tried all 3 solutions to fix it, and none have worked. Anyone have any insight into this? Thanks.
I haven't seen a 1413 for a while.
Doublechecking something. Do you have an older version of SpyCatcher (or a copy of GhostSurf Platinum 2006, which contained the problematic version of SpyCatcher in this context) installed on that PC?

My Purchases show partially downloaded. When I attempt to resume the download I recieve an error message: "an unknown error occurred -50". I tunes has charged for the download and sent a reciept however the shows wont play?
I had the same problem so (assuming under the Purchased items in the Store you have a song stuck at 'Downloading'):
I went to Music, then Artists.
From there I chose the album.
The song that failed to download had the cloud symbol next to it.
I clicked the cloud symbol and the song completed the download for me.
(Please note this was in iTunes for Windows - I expect it to be similar in iTunes for Apple)

First try killing Words. When on the home screen double press the HOME button, then swipe the screen image of Words up to close it.
Next, reset your iPhone by holding HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears. If the problem is not resolved delete the app from your phone, reset the phone again, then reinstall the app. -

On my Dell Dimension 9200 I experience this error when I try to play any file in Quicktime, whether it be *.mov, *.3gp or *.3g2. While on my Dell Inspiron 1720 and my Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 Quicktime functions fine and can play *.mov's, etc. fine! Anyone ever experienced this?
I have downloaded, using the Apple Software Updater, the lastest "iTunes 7.6.1 + Quicktime + Bonjour" package on all PCs but I had this problem only on the Dell Dimension 9200 before the update as well. I even think it was a lower version of quicktime and I still had this. I installed the Quicktime alternative for a while on my Dimension 9200 because I kept getting this error, while Quicktime worked perfectly fine on the other two PCs. I was forced to uninstall the Quicktime Alternative and reinstall Quicktime on the Dimension 9200 because you can't get iTunes 7.6.1 separate to Quicktime seemingly.
It's not always been this way on the Dimension 9200. Previously I was just having buffer overruns (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1187927&tstart=0), a known issue at the time, but ever since an update (not sure from which version to which) the buffer overrun problem is gone, on all PCs, but I've had these fatal errors cropping up all the time, only on this PC.
So to reiterate I get the "Error -50: an unknown error occurred (example.mov)" error whenever I try to play anything at all in Quicktime on my Dell Dimension 9200 and don't receive this on any other PCs. They all have the K-Lite Codec Pack installed among other things. I really can't think what might be causing this. The only thing I could think that might be causing it is I installed an Indeo codec pack nearly a year ago. The others don't have it. Maybe it's causing some issue with the new Quicktime versions that are out now but didn't with the old ones. Dunno

I think it might be this Indeo codec pack I installed or something.
EDIT: Just tried to uninstall "Indeo Software" from the Uninstall thing and it says it was "...probably already uninstalled, do you want to remove it from the list?". Dunno what it might be then. The K-Lite Codec pack maybe. But I have the latest K-Lite codec packs installed on all my PCs and it's only the Dell Dimension 9200 that has trouble with Quicktime.
Maybe it was because I had Indeo Codecs installed and then I installed the K-Lite Codec pack (which has indeo codecs and stuff in it already) over the previous Indeo thing. It was only on the Dell Dimenion 9200 that I did that. Maybe that's what's causing the fatal errors in Quicktime when I try to play anything at all in it.

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

MacBook Pro, mid-2010 15-inch; OS X Mavericks (10.9.4); originally shipped with Snow Leopard.
My MBP has crashed & won't start beyond the grey screen and spinning wheel. System restore from Time Machine backup won't work. I tried all these without success
Safe mode (hold Shift during power-up)
Verbose safe mode (hold Shift + Command + V during power-up) which reports
** /dev/rdisk0s2 (NO WRITE)
** Root file system
Executing fsck_hfs (version hfs-226.1.1).
disk0s2: I/O error
...followed by some other stuff I haven't transcribed before it grinds to a halt
Reset NVRAM (hold Option + Command + P + R during power-up)
I can boot up ok into the Recovery partition (hold Command + R during power-up) to run Disk Utility and Time Machine.
I can’t start from the OS X Install disk (hold C during power-up) cos my DVD drive spits out all CDs and DVDs after spinning them up. This despite cleaning with compressed air. Tried to run AHT, the Apple Hardware Test (hold D during power-up): nada. Also running AHT from the internet - (hold Option + D during power-up), still nothing.
I’ve verified my hard disk (all appears ok) and run Repair Disk Permissions. This reports some problems, for example:
Permissions differ on “System/Library/CoreServices/Feedback Assistant.app”; should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are lrwxr-xr-x .
Unable to set owner and group ; error 22: Invalid argument
Unable to set permissions ; error 22: Invalid argument
Same problem (but with various different permissions) for
“usr/lib/libruby.2.0.dylib”
“usr/lib/libruby.dylib”
“Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”
Also have lots where as well as unable to set owner, group and permissions the
Group differs; should be 80; group is 0.
Affected items are
“Library/Printers”
“Library/Printers/Icons”
“Library/Printers/InstalledPrinters.plist”
and a few dozen more for various items in subfolders of “Applications/iBooks.app/Contents”
I don’t know if they’re linked with my problem or an irrelevant side-issue. I don’t understand the ramifications of these wrong permissions that Disk Utility can’t repair. And I don’t have the headspace or time to learn now either.
I repeatedly tried system restore from Time Machine backup, but get the error:
An error has occurred while erasing your restore destination disk. Restart your computer and then try restoring again.
I tried erasing the hard disk partition with Disk Utility but got the error
Volume erase failed with error couldn't unmount disk.
Now totally out of ideas. Have I overlooked anything? Is my hard drive a goner? BTW my battery is also saying "Replace soon", but I don't know if that's relevant. All help gratefully appreciated!There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive or other storage device to hold the data.
1. Start up from the Recovery partition, from Internet Recovery, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
2. If Method 1 fails because of disk errors, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
3. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
4. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data. -

When I try to open video files purchased through iTunes in Quicktime, I get the message: 'Error 23132: an unknown error occurred. This never happened until I updated iTunes, but when I try to go back to the previous version, I still get the message. It is more convenient for me to play videos in Quicktime since iTunes is such a memory hog. Please help.
You may get better results if you switch to this alternate version: iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) and, if needed, reinstall QuickTime. The new (nearly) all 64-bit version doesn't seem to play well with QuickTime. Perhaps if DRM authentication is required QuickTime needs to be able to see something that is part of the older 32-bit code.

Unable to burn CDs -- can't burn at this speed
