Error 1418, 4th Gen 40GB Click Wheel

I plugged in my iPod to the dock, and I get the Folder icon with the website underneath. So I open iTunes and it take forever to recognize it, and when it did, it told me it was corrupted. I go to restore it, and I get error 1418. I tried doing it in iTunes, iPod Updater, and erasing in Disk Utility, all try each with both FireWire ports, and trying the USB cable on every USB port on my computer. Nothing worked. Any suggestions?

Very strange!
Today I hooked my iPod to a windows laptop. Restoring and synchronization was no problem!
Then I tried again on my iMac and no problem either. My iPod has now the windows structure so for future updates I will have to get the laptop again, but synchronization is possible again.
I still believe my battery is almost dead after 3 years because I get the message the battery is empty some times when it should be full actually.

  • New user   for ipod 4th gen with click wheel

I hope i'm posting this in the right place. My daughter purchased an ipod 4th generation with click wheel offebay, didn't come with software. So I downloaded I tunes off the net. was told the driver for ipod was included in Itunes? I'm computer illeterate, I appologize for this. I'm not sure, but I think I have 2.0 ports on my laptop, it's about l l/2 years old. windows xp I plugged the ipod into my computer after downloading itunes, and the computer doesn't recognize the ipod, a box comes up and says this.
" one of usb drivers attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows doens't recognize it.
I tunes does come up but there is no ipod recognized on itunes it's suppose to come up under devices on the left side of itunes, but nothing comes up. I can import music to my laptop using itunes, cannot put the music onto my ipod.
I'm completely at a loss here, and really don't know what to do.
The serialnumber on my ipod is 2CD44617K8 which I got off the back of the ipod.
I also typed this number in the apple web site and it doesn't recognize the number either.
I have contacted the ebayer this was bought from and he hasn't returned any emails and doesn't act like he wants to help in any kind of way. I'd like to make sure it's opperator error and not something wrong with the ipod.
    thanks in advance

This is the wrong forum for your question, this area is for people with the latest iPod nano.
You need to post in the correct forum and you will probably get more help.
Are you sure you have bought a 'real' iPod, could it be a fake?
Does the eBay seller have good positive feedback, it could be that the iPod is actually broken. Does the iPod turn on, can you use the menus, etc. You should be able to operate the iPod without any music.

  • 3rd gen ipod click wheel.

My 3rd gen nano click wheel doesn't work. I have reset my ipod. I can't get the click wheel to respond to my touch. The center button works but it is REAL slow to respond. Any suggestions?

Oddly enough I just found out by accident that the click wheel works perfect..... when the usb cable is plugged into the computer. I click eject in itunes and then I use the click wheel freely. If I unplug the usb from the computer or from the iPod it stops working. Anyone have this same problem?

  • USB 2.0- Nano recognised as a iPod 20/40GB Click wheel model

Whenever I connect my iPod Nano into my ALi M5273 USB 2.0 PCI card, iTunes recognises my Nano as an old iPod (iPod 20/40GB Click Wheel model, with the black/white screen). The ipod icon under 'Sources' that appears on the left of iTunes appears as this model instead of a black ipod nano icon.
Sometimes the usb 2.0 card fails to connect altogether. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Or should i just buy a new USB 2.0 card?
    Specs:
    Windows XP Professional SP2
ALi M5273 USB 2.0 PCI Card
    iPod Nano

Strange... i've tried both versions. Version 4.9 that came on the disc and version 5.0. But both versions of itunes still seem to have the same problem- with USB 2.0.
Is it strange for my USB 2.0 card to have 4 USB controllers?: 1x'Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller', and 4x'ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller'? All in all, it's added 4 USB Root Hubs, one with 6 usb ports, and 3 all with 2 usb ports each. Is that correct? (My ALi USB 2.0 card only has 5 usb ports but my pc has added 12).
P.s: There is another USB host controller which is not accounted for, as this is used to control the USB 1.1 ports on my motherboard. The controllers and USB Hubs listed have all been added by my ALi USB 2.0 PCI Card.

  • 4th gen 40Gb major problems

    Hi
About a year ago now I bought a 4th Gen 40Gb iPod. It's been absolutely fine until this last week when it decided to freeze in the middle of the odd album, and then skip onto the next track whenever it felt like it. Now that I have just had broadband connected in my house, I downloaded the updates and the new version of iTunes.
The problem is this: my PC sees the iPod, but will not open it as a drive under My Computer, and it makes the system freeze while thinking about it. It also will not see it in iTunes. Occasionally, I get the folder with the exclamation mark on the iPod itself. I have reset it and reformatted it, but I'm still having the same problems.
What do you suggest? Please help me!!!!

    I daren't upgrade to iTunes 6, and I don't see why I need to!
I explained that I'd tried everything, including setting it into disk mode to restore it to every version of iTunes etc available, and that the hard drive seemed faulty. As it was under warranty (just!) the Genius Bar tech let me have a new one. He said they should last years, but their are naturally delicate by nature. I explained that I use a LiliPod case so there's no way it could have damaged the iPod, and he said it must just be a faulty drive. Although i do have to buy Apple care for £39 this time (around $70?) as my warranty on the replacement is only 3 months, so if I want 12 months, I have to pay, which could be worthwhile considering the last one died after 11 months!!

  • HP refurb 40GB click wheel:  The sound quality just started getting worse..

    Hello all,
I have a HP refurb 40GB click wheel.
Everything was fine for a few months, then, (& it might just be me), it sure seems like the sound quality just started getting worse.
What can I do about that?
Has that happened to anybody else?
    Thanks-

  • Accessories from 40GB 4th Generation Ipod click wheel

    Hi all
I have just upgraded from a 4th Generation 40GB Ipod model M9268B to the new Ipod classic.
I already have a number of accessories such as a dock / mains charger from my old model and wondered if they are ok to use of my new ipod classic ???
Any ideas .....hope they are ok.
    Regards
    Tiggy777

I plug my 80GB iPod classic into my work colleagues 3rd generation dock and power adapter regularly and it plays audio and charges without any issues.

  • 3rd Gen Nano click wheel won't work in the car.  My OLD one worked, but this one doesn't.

I use a  PXDP iPod2Car iPod interface in my 02 Firebird.  My original, trusty 3rd gen. nano used to work perfectly.  It charged, and the steering wheel as well as main stereo controls operated it.  Something happened to it recently (my guess is the logic board went bad) and it does not come on at all, plugged in or not.  I actually have 2 more just like it that I was going to give away, but decided to keep.
Neither one of these will let me use the click wheel to scroll while plugged into the car - the old one did.
I can only change songs with the car's controls.
The only difference between these two and the old one, is that they have the HP logo on the back.  Are they later models, with perhaps different hardware?
Is there anything I can do about it?
Is there any hope for the old one?
I hate not being able to scroll at all!
    thanks in advance!

Contact PXDP.  They should know if their product is compatible with your iPod Nano.
Why won't my iPod play through my iPod speakers or car kit?

  • Service on 4th Gen 40GB iPod

I have a 4th generation 40GB iPod that is still covered by AppleCare and going to require service. I've restored my iPod, removed and reinstalled iTunes and nothing has fixed it. Initially, it was freezing mid-song and skipping 2 or 3 songs ahead before another would actually play. Now, it won't even power on. You can hear the hard drive start up. Then, it dies. No graphics other than the Apple logo will register.
Most talk I've seen seems to be of replacing the unit. Well, mine is not only a few generations behind but they don't even make 40GB iPods anymore. My question is, if it goes in for service, what will they do to fix it?
    Thanks!

Nevermind. I got my answer. They replaced it with another 4th Generation 40GB iPod. I was hoping that, when he told me he was going to replace it, it was going to be with a new video iPod. Oh well. A new identical iPod with a new battery (mine was on the verge of dying) for free is a pretty good deal, too.

  • Should I restore my iPod nano 2nd gen?; click wheel is unresponsive.

My iPod connects to iTunes perfectly fine, and when disconnected from iTunes, the hold switch turns the screen light on and I can see the menu. However, when I try to actually use the iPod with the click wheel, it does not work at all. Would restoring my iPod fix this problem? Or does the issue seem bigger than that? I realize that I will lose all of my music (most of which is not on my current computer), but I guess if that is the only way to fix my iPod, it'll have to do! Thank you!

Then it is probably a hardware failure and you will need to get the click wheel replaced.

  • TS1382 4th gen iPod nano wheel and buttons still non-responsive after all t-shooting suggestions performed.

    Hello all,
My beautiful 1 year old daughter pull my nano off a Bose speaker dock and ever since the wheel and buttons have been non-responsive.  I've tried a rest and all troubleshooting steps with no luck.  Does anyone out there have any other suggestions?  Thanks.
    Mike

Mine is no longer responding to anything but when it's connected to the computer, it will restore and sync, but I cannot turn it off, play music or anything else and I would really like to know a solution for this as well!

  • Songs not playing properly on 3rd gen iPod (click wheel)

I have a large amount of songs on my iTunes and iPod, and I often buy new music (from sources other than iTunes) to add to me collection. After updating my iPod last night to add a new album that I purchased, I noticed today that certain songs on my iPod would not play properly. When they come up in the cue or are selected to play manually, they appear on the screen, stay at "0:00 elapsed" for a second or two, then the iPod simply switches to the next cued song, as if this song has come to an end. If it's the only song in the cue, the iPod reverts to the general Menu screen.
I checked my iTunes to see that the songs were still in my library and that I did not move or delete the source. None of the affected songs had the "This song cannot be found" exclamation point next to them, and they all played fine on my computer through iTunes, but they simply wouldn't work on the iPod. I updated my iPod tonight in hopes that the mistake would correct itself, but nothing's happened.
Since this is a rare problem, I haven't been able to find any FAQs or solutions regarding it. I hope someone has the answer.
    Thanks for your time.

I have the exact same thing happening. I just bought the new Foo Fighters album, the songs play on iTunes, but will not play on my iPod. I have updated my iTunes and iPod to try to get it to play with no success. With the iPod in the sourcelist, I can play the songs from the iPod music list, but not once the iPod is undocked from my PC the song titles come up for a brief second then skip to the next song on the album without ever playing any audio. I even tried to delete the album and reload it. Never had this happen with any other songs, artists, etc.

  • IPod Classic Gen 3 Click Wheel 20-GB accidental disk format

I believe I accidentally formatted the disk on my iPod while attempting to format another drive connected to the computer (Win 7). Now I only get the Apple logo and nothing happens when I try and do a reset (menu/select). When I press the menu/play buttons, the display will cycle on and off after about 6 seconds. Any idea how I can recover this iPod or should I consider it a paper weight? Thank you very much!

The first thing I would attempt is to restore the iPod firmware through iTunes
(Summary Tab - Version Section - Restore). Both Mac and Windows versions can do it for you. But all your iPod contents will be lost (if you've formatted the iPod they're gone anyway).
And attention, choose the right format during restore, Mac format (HFS+ filesystem) is usable only on Mac Os, Windows format (FAT32 filesystem) is universal.
Once the firmware is restored, the iPod should behave as usual.
    Good luck.

  • 40GB CLick Wheel iPod -- Won't Restore

My iPod (less than a year old) had been turning itself off, refusing to play songs, stopping in the middle of songs, not turning on, and randomly freezing. I tried resetting it. I updated all of the software for both iTunes and the iPod. After the problems did not stop, I restored the iPod. It seemed okay at first, and my music was loading onto it from iTunes. Then, my computer shut itself off and will no longer recognize the iPod. Although I know at least 1,000 songs had been reloaded when the computer shut off, only 8 are on the iPod now, and the problems I was experiencing in the very beginning are still happening (stopping in the middle of songs, refusing to play, etc). I tried restoring it again, and it won't even do that. Any suggestions??

Same problem here... I have had the 40gig ipod for a little over a year... one day the songs would only play half way through.. and would skip to random songs. I put the new updater on, wiped the ipod, got the new version of itunes... then when i tried to reload the songs I discovered that my 40gig ipod had been reduced to an 8gig. Everytime it gets to about 8 gigs... the ipod starts whirrring and itunes disconnects it... the ipod stays frozen for about 5 minutes then it starts flashing... the do not disconnect sign again. I have tried everything... letting it cool, loading songs an album at a time, reloading old updaters, old versions of itunes, restoring the ipod a dozen times... all with the same effect. Note, this ipod is stationary, is not traveled with is merely my entire 5000 song collection hooked into my stereo. I think the disc drive has gone bad... but apple says that "restore" would fix that...(I don't know how).
