Error 1434

Error 1434
I dropped ipod classic 80GB, song names displayed but songs wouldn't play. Restore ipod in Itunes screen appeared. Obviously tried this and error 1434 appeared.
Cannont run diagnostic- After the open device message shows, new screen appears saying Device canot be opened: Diag Halt.
The Red 'X' has not appeared
Using a Mac so when disk utility is opened no option appears to restore/ or perform any 'first aid' on device.
It is fully charged. It will not restore in itunes in disk mode or when its not in disk mode!! I've tried all suggested help items from the error 1430/1439 ......etc page.
I also have tried dropping it again (gently) and this also has not helped.
Is my ipod really dead??
Is there anything else that can be done, apart from getting a new hard drive? Any help would be apprecriated, Thanks!!

Try using the PC/Mac to reformat the iPod then iTunes to restore. If you still get the same error message then more than likely a HDD issue.

i have an error 1434? what does this mean?

    Hi Ceecee,
Find My iPhone is a generic term that is used for this feature regardless of whether it is turned on on an iPad or an iPhone.
If you deleted your iCloud account on your iPad, and have not signed back on to iCloud, then the Find My iPhone feature is turned off, and your device is not protected nor can it be tracked if it is stolen.
Sign back into iCloud on your iPad, and go to Settings>iCloud to turn Find My iPhone back on to remedy this situation, if you wish.
    Cheers,

  • Error 1434 - what do I do???

    Hi
I bought my 160gb ipod earlier this year and have not had any problems until now.
It stopped working so went online and followed the instructions on to get an error message 1434 - that has no solution to it via the troubleshooter.
How can I resolve this problem.
I live 4 hours away from the nearest Apple store - so that is not an option.
    Please can you advise?
    Very much appreciated,
    Pootle

Can you try this Apple Support procedure for error 143x
If it doesn't work than do the iPod disk Diagnostics as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.
    Good Luck!

  • Has anyone else received error 1434 when restoring their iPod classic.

I can't seem to restore my iPod classic. I get the above error message...a little help?

It doesn't contain your exact erorr number, but perhaps something here will help.
    iPod: Cannot restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439
Be sure to carefully work through each every suggestion.  Also, make sure you are plugging the iPod into a high powered USB port on the Mac itself and not through a USB hub.

  • Unknown error -53?

all summer, my ipod has been giving me the same problem. one day, i synced and i accidentally pulled out the itunes from the usb port, and now it's giving me all sorts of issues.
at first, it said "ipod can not be read into," so i restored it, etc, and every time i synced, itunes stopped working.
i tried doing something i read in a discussion board (it had to do with notepad and a windows batch file) and at first it seemed like it was working, but then... as i restored it (for literally the 15th time) itunes said it encountered an error, 1434 or something, and ipod could not be synced.
i tried it again, and it started syncing but after waiting for a long time, and only syncing about 10 songs in 10 minutes, itunes popped up a message that said , *unknown error -53.*
    solutions?

Have someone with a PC running Windows XP download the shuffle Reset Utility and apply it to your shuffle.

  • I have have an ipod classic 160gb. I was listening to it and all of a sudden the music wouldn't play. It makes this weird scratching noise on the inside, not when i plug it in to the speakers. What should i do?!

Had it for about 2 years, more or less. When i try to restore it a screen on my itunes comes up that "it couldn't be restored. error (1434)".

Most likely, it is the scream of death for your iPod Hardisk.
Do the disk diagnostic as posted by tt2
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17028567#17028567
But if the diagnostic show no issues, then try another USB Port, read this Apple support article on your 1434 error.

  • IPod Classic: what causes hard drive damage?

I charged my iPod Classic (160GB) this morning, properly ejected the device, used it for a few minutes, then it just..... crashed. I've tried running tests and nothing happened. I've also tried reconnecting it to my laptop (Mac) but it indicated Error 1434/ said the device is not repairable/. Then went straight to restoring it via my iMac, but no luck (it detects the device, but it doesn't show up on iTunes -- so how can I restore?). I've done my research and ended up with this idea: my iPod is dead. Now I'm just wondering -- after almost a year and a half of taking care of my iPod (by taking care, I mean proper ejecting, not dropping it, etc), why the sudden hard drive damage?
    Please enlighten me.

Hard drives do fail over time.  Even solid state drives will fail one day.
However, I once had a problem with an iPod Classic that I belive was caused by using the iPod as an external hard drive and I ended up taking it to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.  All the Genius did was plug it in to his computer and used some 3rd party application to force the iPod to restore again.  And that was after I tried several things.  So I suggest you take it to a Apple Genius if you can.
If you can't go to an Apple Store, I can look for that 3rd party Application.

  • My iPod is stuck on apple logo and I get a 1434 Error when trying to restore it.

Hello, I hope somebody can help me. I have a 120 gb ipod classic (6th generation). I purchased it a long time ago. It was working fine for a few years and then suddenly it's been stuck on the apple logo ever since.
I tried to restore it by putting in on disk mode and connecting it to my Mac. My iTunes recognizes the device (But my Mac doesn't!). On iTunes, I tried to restore it, but I get an error message 1434, stating that the restoration could not be completed.
I read that I should try to erase the drive with Disk Utility, but when I get there, the button to erase the drive is unclickable. I tried to partition as well, but it also did not work (maybe I am doing it wrong? Could somebody direct me with better instructions?)
I'm wondering if the hard drive is dying, or if I have a bad ribbon, or if the logic board itself is broken. Not sure what method of action I should take. I can't even get into the diagnostic screen.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hello E1777,
You can try this link to download iTunes from the Apple website. It should resolve the issue for you.
    iTunes 11.0.4

  • TS1372 Hi i'm trying to restore my iPod classic and it says that the iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1434) what can i do to fix this? Thanks

Hi i'm trying to restore my iPod classic and it says that the iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1434) what can i do to fix this? Thanks

Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.

  • I can't get my ipod classic (120GB) to work. I am getting error code 1434, and the ipod is making a lot of clicking noises when plugged in

After coming back from Hawaii, my Ipod classic doesn't work anymore. When plugged into itunes, it says that it may be corrupt, and that I need to restore it. I have tried this, but everytime it gives me an error code of 1434. When I click more information, it sends me to a support page, but not for error code 1434. I tried all of the steps on the page hoping that it would help. Also my ipod is making  a lot of clicking noises when it is trying to run, alomst as if it is skipping inside and can't fully run. Can anyone help me ?

Clicking sounds from an iPod that has a hard drive for storage is not a good thing.  It usually means the hard drive is faulty.  That is the likely reason for getting an error during the attempt to Restore.
If you use a Mac, you can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
If it goes into Disk Mode, connect the iPod and instead of running iTunes, run Disk Utility.  Does the iPod appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?  If it does, select the iPod device in the sidebar, not the volume indented below the device (if there is one).  Go to the Erase tab.  Set the Format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Name does not matter.  Click on Security Options and choose to write a single pass of zeros over the entire disk.  This serves as a good "stress test" for the iPod's hard drive.  Back on the main window, click Erase.
This takes longer than a regular erase, but you should see steady progress.  If it errors out, or stalls for a LONG time (like hours), the hard drive is likely to be faulty.
If it completes successfully, quit Disk Utility, run iTunes and try to do another Restore
