Error -1450 problem occurred creating itunes library file

itunes won't make .itl, the file that apparently necessary for maintaining a music library on itunes. this means my library is lost every time i close itunes. Comes in the form of error message -1450

I know this doesn't help you Bud, but I've had this issue for at least the last couple of versions.  If I can ask, what is you enviornment like?  Local PC only, libray saved on another PC/Server?
In my case my library is on Windows 2003 server with the share mapped to drive M:  This has worked for many years through both XP and Windows 7 until and update a while ago.
Thanks,
Rob

I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • Re-create iTunes library files?

    Hi
The problem is as follows. I have all my itunes (60 GB) on an external hard drive and I have deleted (don't ask!) my iTunes library and xml files. I want to be able to re-create the library without having to copy the songs from the external drive to my internal hard drive - I dont have enough space on the laptop. What do I do?

Verify in Preferences>Advanced>General if the 'iTunes Music folder location' still points to your music folder on the external drive.
Then choose 'Add to Library...' from the File menu and navigate to the folder on the external drive.
The files already are at the designated location, so iTunes will not create copies.
You will have to re-create all playlist, because they were in the 'iTunes Library' file and are now MIA.
    Hope this helps.

  • Error: iTunes Library file locked, or no permission

After fighting with what I'm afraid is a toasted iPod (another story), iTunes hung to the point that even Force Quit took several tries to kill it. Upon restart and attempting to re-open iTunes, I'm getting an error message that says "The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file". Not true, obviously.
    Any suggestions?

Fixed.  For those using WinXP...Here's what I had to do:
It was a file properties thing as mentioned in other posts, but to change the file properties...
    1.  Boot Windows in SAFE MODE by holding F8 down during bootup
    2.  Log on as Administrator
    3.  Navigate to the iTunes Libary.itl file (My Music/iTunes)
    4.  Right Click and pull up the file properties
    5.  Under Security, re-add the user account to the file permissions
    6.  Then change file permissions to FULL (Read/Write/Edit...)
    7.  Reboot & Viola !
Once you unlock the write protected status (which got defaulted to the Adminstrator account), iTunes opens just fine.

  • Why are ITunes Library files stored on Buffalo Pro 1TB NAS being corrupted?

I'm having a flaky problem with the ITunes library files (Mac version) stored on a Buffalo NAS. Frequently, ITunes says the ITunes library file is damaged and creates a new one.
Moreover, there are temp files that ITunes apparntly creates that apparently become the new Library and XML files when ITunes shuts down. Apparently, this is done behind the scenes while ITunes is shutting down, but lately, these files are no longer being renamed or deleted. Often multiple temp files will accumulate.
Lastly, and most oddly, if I try to rename one of these temp files to ITunes Library based on best guess from size and date which is the ITunes Library file, it sometimes works, but it sometimes doesn't. When it doesn't, I will find a "phantom" ITunes Library file and ITunes Library.xml that cannot be selected, opened or deleted. They are greyed out in Finder. Since the file exists, a rename or copy will fail, saying a file already exists with that name, but I can't select it to delete it. Often when this happens, the actual file name seems to "flicker" between temp file and Itunes Library file. If I try to click on ITunes Library, it disappears, but a new temp file instantly appears. If I try to click on the temp file, that disappears and the ITunes Library file appears.
Rebooting the NAS fixes the phantom file problem. I delete all ITunes library and temp files, and reindex from ITunes, but it only starts all over again.
If I do the same process in Windows, ITunes will only find about 10% of my files and then stop. (I have about 16,500 tracks total.) Windows doesn't seem to have any probelms with "phantom" files.
Checks on the NAS disk array show no problems.
    Any thoughts?

  • CS5 "a problem occured while extracting some files...."

I used both Firefox and IE to download the update for CS5. All seemed to successfully download to my desktop where I wanted them. When I double clicked on the .exe file, it began to extract and got to 99% (sometimes 100%) before giving me the error "A problem occured while extracting some files. Check availabile space on your computer and the write privilages on the destination folder."
I am using Windows XP, I'm the admin so I'm not sure what privilages I need.
    I have 66 G of free space
*I tried using 7zip to extract the files, did not work.
*I tried to just get into the folder which was created during the extract and clicked on set-up.exe - it gave me the message "We've encountered the following issues: Installer failed to initialize. File not found. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem." including a link to where I can do that. I did that and so far, it is stuck on "please wait while the application initializes." I'm thinking it's not going to happen so I've come here.
    Any ideas would be appreciated!

First of all, let me correct an incongruency in your post, Mr. Cox: you say it works for "almost everyone" yet also state that it fails "only" for me. These can't both be correct, and of course we all know the latter is clearly incorrect because we can see from this thread that someone else has also had the problem.
Also, I am not sure that the problem has been attributed with absolute certainty to a "bad download", although I tend to agree that it's the most likely explanation. Has it?
Now consider this: I posted here for the exact reason that Adobe needs to know this is not a problem with only one computer and one user. I took some time out of my work day because I appreciate Adobe.
They might want to know that I had the problem on a fresh install on my home computer, one that was only days ago running CS5 from ym first install, which went without a hitch. In solving this, I am happy to post any system information, error logs, checksums, or ANYTHING that Adobe would like to see that would result in the resolution of this problem. As you know I can solve the problem myself because I have the original uncorrupted files here at work. But, really, being as Adobe has decided to use a special download and installation package, which I know can be somewhat quirky from past experience, I think it is Adobe's responsibility to listen to download/installation problems. AND as their customer service has never been anything but exemplary in the past, Mr. Cox, this is exactly why I posted here. Because they do listen.
What should they do? It seems to me, although I'm no programmer, that in this day and age there is no reason that a download should be completed and still not function. There are solutions aplenty that ensure data is transmitted without error, and I quite frankly do not understand why they have not already used such a solution (if bad download is in fact the problem here). For example, can they not make a downloader that runs a checksum for us, and tells us if we have a bad download, or runs packets through one to make sure that everything is coming in correctly as we download? Can corrupted packets be discarded and redownloaded automatically so that crappy connections still get their software in pristine condition, and nobody has to post or call in about stuff like this?
That would seem to be a good idea.
    Cheers,

  • Persistent damaged itunes library file

Has anyone had any problems with their itunes library file being damaged every time they open itunes? This started a few days ago and initially I lost all of my playlists. I started recreating my library and all was fine. I even opened and closed itunes several times. But now, every time I open itunes it tells me my library is damaged. At one point it said some of my itunes files were missing and I had to reinstall itunes. I had already done this once when all these problems started. I have searched the forums for similar issues but mainly what I'm finding are posts regarding the Sony Vaio issues. I'm using a Dell. I also have Symantec anti-virus protection (Norton Internet Security).
I'm extremely frustrated with this issue. I am thinking this all started after I upgraded to the latest version of itunes. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I've had exactly the same problem for over a month. If I'm unlucky enough to have plugged my iPhone in when this happens it completely wipes all my apps, music and setting. Really useful!
Have tried re-installs of current version, old version and the latest version of iTunes with no luck at all. Sometimes it can go for days without falling over, other times it's everytime I open it. It has been working fine until the 8.2 upgrade messed it all up. v9 hasn't fixed it either.
Annoyed doesn't start to convey my feelings with this as everytime this happens I'm forced to re-install everything onto the iPhone and completely re-build my music, podcast and app libraries and playlists.
What would be nice is a way of identifying what's caused it so I can purge the file from my system or get a patch from Apple. Until such a time I'm not using iTunes anymore.

  • The iTunes Library file cannot be saved.  A file was specified instead of a folder.

What does this error message mean? "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved.  A file was specified instead of a folder.

After trying a few other remedies, the tech at Apple Care suggested I reinstall Lion.
    Here's the article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp1599.html
I have not had the error message since, even after importing about a dozen CDs and burning a couple playlists.
This seems to be the fix.

  • The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unkown error occurred [-1450]

Has anyone encountered the following iTunes error,
" The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unkown error occurred [-1450] "
Whenever I shut my iTunes down the next time I start it up the library seems to be lost. I can do an Add Folder to Library from the File options, pick my iTunes Music folder and copy everything back in. However the whole repeats when I close iTunes down again. Have tried re-installing iTunes but this did not work.
    Has anyone got any suggestions,
    Thanks.

    == Error -54 ==
From an OS9 reference, error -54 is a software lock on a file or a permissions error. (Some of the old codes still apply to OSX although there is no formal list of OSX error codes.)
First, try simply restarting your computer.

  • The itunes library file cannot be saved. An Unknown error occurred (-1450)

    Greetings,
    I'm getting the following error:
The itunes library file cannot be saved. An Unknown error occurred (-1450)
I have uninstalled/reinstalled Itunes twice including deleting the old databases. After importing my old songs I get the above error continuously and when I restart Itunes my songs are no longer listed in Itunes.
One thing, all the folders on my computer or now "Read-Only" I can't get rid of this. I uncheck it and aply the change but when I check the properties for the folder again Read-Only is selected again. This is a funny read-only in that the check in the box selecting read-only is ghosted but still there AND WONT GO AWAY.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

i did move the music library folder to a shared documents folder, but I'm the only one who uses that folder. and the hard drive is not full, almost, but still 10 gigs left for use. itunes was working fine, and then one time when it started up it said the there were missing files, and that itunes had to be reinstalled. I looked but could not see any missing files. nothing bad has happened.it cant be a virius, because i have not been on the internet at all in the last month. but i did use CCleaner to clean out my hard drive of unnecessary files , not the first time i have, and then itunes did not work, this has never happened after I've done this so i doubt that CC was the prolbem. I looked at all of the files it was going to delete, and none of them were related to itunes.

While downloading podcasts to my library, I am getting the message, "the iTunes Library file cannot be saves. An unknown error occured (-54)." Any idea of what is going on?
    Thanks.

The problem went away on its own. Not sure what was the problem but perhaps somehow the system was out sync internally due installing Lion 10.7.3/Snow Leopard 10.6.8/10.7/10.7.3 with iTunes 6 installing after the 10.7.3 and then needing to be installed again after the second 10.7.3 install from the updater model.
I kept accepting the error message and checking iTunes music file. No podcast downloads were actually rejected.

Any advice. I subscrive to a lot of podcasts and i can't update anything.
    Help Please

Just letting you know that I have also had that problem since downloading that "update" for itunes.
All of my new music that I have tried to transfer from my E-music file will not be accepted. error -50 keeps popping up.
I have seen a few others post this same question, but I have been unable to find an answer for it.
If anyone has come across what this problem is, please help.

  • The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50).

I launch iTunes, I get "Updating iTunes library" and then, "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50)." This started happening after I upgraded to iTunes 7.3. Things seem to work OK, but my artwork was rearranged in coverflow, and it seems to take much longer to get music videos to come up in Frontrow. This is a problem because my 2 1/2 year old doesn't like to wait for his Chili Pepper videos. What do I need to fix?
