  • Unexpected error when connecting Airport Express A1264 to Airport Utility 6.3.1

My current wireless setup is and has been the following:  Phone Jack --> DSL modem ---> Airport Express via Ethernet cable
Off of that connection we've been able to wirelessly run our MacBook, Apple TV and iPhones for several years.
We recently left for vacation, so I unplugged everything (apparently a huge mistake).  When we returned from vacation, the wireless connection was intermittent and kept being dropped.
If I connect the Ethernet cable directly from the modem into my MacBook the internet works fine.
I tried refreshing the Airport Express by unplugging it and cycling it through.  It continued to drop.
By opening the Airport Utility, a firmware update was recommended.  However, since that update the Airport Express isn't detected anymore.
I tried a hard reset and Utility finds the Airport Express under "Other Wifi Devices" but then, at the end of trying to "Join the Airport Express to the Network" I get an "Unexpected Error" message.
    Airport Express Model Number: A1264
    Airport Utility: 6.3.1
    OS: 10.8.5
I am very frustrated and way out of my league here with understanding how this all works and what I can do to fix it.  If anyone has any suggestions or expertise to offer, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you for your time,
    Amanda

    Hi AMM222,
"Unexpected Error" message with Mountain Lion and AirPort Utility 6.3.x.  Hopefully this is just a matter of enabling IPv6.
AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4597
This can happen if IPv6 has been disabled. To enable IPv6 for your network interface:
Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, and then click Network.
If a lock icon appears in the lower-left corner, click it and enter your admin name and password to unlock the pane.
Click your network service (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) in the list, and then click Advanced.
    Click the TCP/IP tab.
Choose Link-local only from the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu.
    Click OK.
    Click Apply.
The AirPort device should now appear in AirPort Utility.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Airport 6.3.1 - Unexpected error connecting to Airport Express

I have an Airport Extreme (A1408) base station. I am trying to add an Airport Express (A1392) to my network using Airport Utility 6.3.1 (631.4) with Mac OS/X 10.8.4 (12E 55) running on an iMac. The Airport Utility can find the Express, but returns "An unexpected error occurred. Try again." I have reset the Express using the pinhole without success. I also tried connecting another Airport Extreme (A1408) to the same network with the same result: it can find the device, but returns an unexpected error.
Based on others' posts, I have tried changing the Network setting for IPv6 to "Link-local only". This also did not resolve the problem. Any suggestions are welcome.

I really appreciate your quick response!
The factory default reset didn't work. What did was connecting an ethernet cable. Here's what I did (for anyone else having a similar issue):
Connected the Airport Express via ethernet cable to the Airport Extreme base station.
Airport Utility found the Airport Express and set it up on the ethernet (wired) network. Airport Utility then showed a solid line between the Extreme and the Express to show they were connected.
I then edited the properties of the Airport Express as follows:
On the "Wireless" tab, change "Network Mode" from "Create a wireless network" to "Extend a wireless network".
After the Airport Express rebooted, I detached the ethernet cable.
I then unplugged the Airport Express and plugged it back in the room where I actually wanted it to serve as a wireless extender.
I waited a good 2-3 minutes, checked the status of the connection in Airport Utility in Wi-Fi mode, and voila! It worked. The solid line now shows as a dotted line between the Extreme and Express to show they are connected wirelessly.
I tried connecting a peripheral (in this case, my ethernet-enabled TV) via ethernet cable to the Airport Express extender and it was fully functional.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Error in Configuring Airport Express

I recently upgraded my main computer to an iMac. When I opened the new Airport Utility, it had me do a firmware update on my Airport Extreme Base Station (801.11g) (AEBS). I also use an Airport Express (AE) (801.22g) to play iTunes remotely over my stereo. This setup was working fine until the Leopard and firmware update. Now my AE no longer joins the network, which is otherwise fine as far as my computers are concerned.
I've tried factory default resets on the AE, but the configuration fails at the final step where the Airport Utility waits for the AE unit to restart.
How do I get the Airport Express unit back on the network?

OK. We're up and running after a number of changes. I don't know which or what combination made things work, but here's what I did.
    1. Airport Express Firmware Update 6.3
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportexpressfirmwareupdate63formacosx.h tml
I don't know if I had ever done this, nor am I sure that firmware update remain when one does a "factory default" reset, but I did this after a factory default reset using the AX default network.
    2. Did a "factory default" reset. Connected AX to the AEBS via Ethernet LAN. Did a Manual configuration.
    3. Configured AX, noting the problems listed in Summary. Two were noted. One recommended that the Connection Sharing be turned off (bridge mode). The other indicated Default settings were in operation.
    4. Restarted AX. Same result with error in reading the configuration after restart.
    5. Changed AEBS Wireless<Wireless Mode to "Create a Wireless Network." Previously this had been set to "Participate in a WDS Network."
#5 seems to have done the trick, though I can't rule out that #1-4 weren't necessary parts of the solution. I've tried to document the many attempts and changes I made so perhaps someone can sort this out for anyone else who might have this problem. iTunes is back on the stereo!

  • Error messagesMI  on Airport express

I am trying to set up my Aiport Express 802.11n wi-fi but it gives me three errors, see picture attached.
The Ehternet is plugged and the cable is working well, I already tried it connecting it directly to my Mac.
The other two errors I don't know what are they about. The aiport light is amber but I am working on my Mac with the wi-fi connected to my wi-fi network. In my iphone the network appears but is not connected.

The problem is that your modem has associated with your old Express, and it remembers that device.  It will ignore another device if you try to connect it to the modem....that is why the new AirPort Express cannot connect with the modem.
Unplug the Ethernet cable from the modem
Pull the power cord from the back of the modem to power it down
Leave the modem powered off at least 30 minutes......longer will not hurt
Power up the new AirPort Express for a minute
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Express for 10 seconds.  You will see the amber light blink rapidly during this time
Release the reset button after 10 seconds
Allow a full minute for the AirPort Express to restart and display a slow, blinking amber light
Now pull the power cord from the back of the AirPort Express
After the modem has been powered off at least 30 minutes, connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express
Power up the modem and let it run for 10 minutes by itself
Then, power up the AirPort Express and let it run for a few minutes
Now try the setup again on the AirPort Express

  • Error 6742 with AirPort Express and Time Capsule

    Hi all,
I have an AirPort Express from 2009 and a Time Capsule from 2010. I always use my Time Capsule to join to my existing network and stream my external hard drive across my house.
Yesterday our IP router died (Virgin Media) and we are not getting a new one until Saturday the earliest... So I thought oooo I have an Airport Express spare and a Time Capsule we could use.
However when I try to connect both of them to the modem all I get is error 6742. When I have searched for this people are suggesting the hardware has died, well my Time Capsule was definitely alive and well when I tried to set it up against the modem as it was streaming my external drive. My Express, well maybe, it has been in a cupboard for a few years...
Does anyone have any ideas what I could do to set this up? I have tried a reset and a factory reset on both units.
    Thanks

What broadband type do you have?
It can be impossible to plug a TC into the existing connection because the virgin media router has special setup or logins which are not revealed to end users.
If it is a fibre connection for instance the TC may simply not work. They have issues with many fibre ISP putting the gateway address outside the subnet of the main public IP.. (don't worry if it is too technical .. it amounts to .. it don't work! )
You may need to wait until Sat.
Get in a big supply of home videos or something and try and starve off your addiction.

  • New airport express has error, now network can't connect to internet to

Purchased new airport express to use solely for airplay, ran airport utility and there was an error. Now airport express is not recognized and wireless network (Fios router) has no internet connection.

It's optional, but in my opinion, it would still be a good idea to perform the complete network power cycle that I outlined above.  This will give the network a "fresh start" and minimize the chances of an error occurring during the setup of the Express.
Perform a Factory Default Reset as suggested by Tesserax above.
Temporarily, locate the Express in the same room or close proximity to the Actiontec modem/router and power it on for a few minutes. Do not connect an Ethernet cable to the Express, as it will be configured using wireless.
Click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station
Click on AirPort Express just below that listing
That will get the setup "wizard" running to take a minute to analyze the network and likely suggest that the Express be setup to extend the Actiontec network.
Technically, it cannot do this, but it should be able to join the Actiontec network for use with AirPlay if the security settings on the Actionec are compatible with the Express.
Enter a name that you want to call the Express and then click the Other Options button.
Select the Add to an existing network option, if not already selected, and click Next
Follow the prompts, making sure that the name of the network and password are entered correctly.
If the setup is successful, you will see a message of Setup Complete and the Express will display a green light. Click Done and move the Express to the desired location and power it back up again.  The Express needs to be located where it can receive a good quality signal from the modem/router wireless.

  • Error 10057 / Airport Express / IP6

I had been having a nagging problem with error 10057 when Airport Express kept prompting me to upgrade firmware from 7.52 to 7.6.  I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, but finally this post helped
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/10464721?messageID=10464721#10464721?messa geID=10464721
I don't know why, but for me, it was disabling ip6, not enabling it.  Figured I'd post this, in case others have same prolbem, as it was driving me crazy

The Windows firewall is likely blocking the connection attempt from AirPort Utility to the AirPort Express.
Check the Firewall settings in the Control Panel of the PC.
The anti-virus settings can do the same thing as well as Microsoft Security Essentials, if you are running that on your PC.
In the past, I have had to turn off both the Windows firewall and anti-virus to get the PC to connect to the AirPort Express. Once the Express has been configured, you can turn the firewall and antivirus back on.
It also may help to temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from the PC to the Express for configuration. You can disconnect the Ethernet cable once the Express is set up.

  • An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Apple TV".

LOADS OF PROBLEMS WITH AIPORT EXPRESS
An unknown error (-15006) occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”.

I had the same issue, started getting the error after my Airport Express had been working perfectly for over two years.
On another post in this site, someone advised disabling IPv6.
    System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> TCP/IP -> Configure IPv6 to OFF
This instantly fixed the streaming for me. Not sure why or if it will work for AppleTV.
    Hope this helps.

  • Airport Express 2nd WAN Port light always on, even when nothing is connected.

My Airport Express 2nd WAN Port light always on, even when nothing is connected.
Is this normal? The Airport utility also said that I didn't connect anything to the port - when there is a lan cable connected from the main Airport Extreme.
The computer can connect to the WiFi from the Airport Express properly, but with blinking yellow and no internet connection, also it cannot obtain the ip address.
After setting the Airport Express to the Bridge mode, the computer cannot access to the Airport Express anymore, with "Connection Time Out" error.
The Airport Express was 3 days old, and was working properly until today. There is also one blackout today because of the storm.
Had reset the Airport several times, didn't solve the problem.

Hi again. That is a good idea. Check if router can grab an ip from your modem since wireless local connection through the router is working. If it can grab an ip and works fine on wireless, then you might have a problem with the ethernet ports. You might want to try assigning an ip address on the wired connection and see if ip of router is pingable. If really not working at all, possibility that router is not working properly anymore.

  • Apple AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n - MB321LL/A. How to set it up to my new iMac

    Community:
How do you set up an
Apple AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n - MB321LL/A how do you set up on Mac running on OS X 10.9.4?
    Please advise
    Fmsalazar

Apple did say it was important.
If the units do not show up in the airport utility then you must set it correctly to link-local.
Steps for OS X Lion or Mountain Lion
This can happen if IPv6 has been disabled. To enable IPv6 for your network interface:
Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, and then click Network.
If a lock icon appears in the lower-left corner, click it and enter your admin name and password to unlock the pane.
Click your network service (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) in the list, and then click Advanced.
    Click the TCP/IP tab.
Choose Link-local only from the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu.
    Click OK.
    Click Apply.
AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3
    Apple rep says the same.
Re: Unexpected error when connecting Airport Express A1264 to Airport Utility 6.3.1
I am searching as I saw it in a thread today where a person had issues. (No contribution from me in the thread but found that was the issue).
It is kind of a fail safe.. since auto can end up with any setting.. and it will depend on the setting of ipv6 in the Airport Router if it works properly in the computer.. setting it to the correct value is one step in sorting out problems when people get in a mess.

  • Airport Express won't configure to by Airport extreme

I keep getting a error stating "the airport express is configured but we can't find it..."  Anyone else solved this problem?

I did that and still got the error message. I got a link from someone on another board:
    http://www.upgradeyourmac.co.uk/mainsite/MacOSQuestions/Q071.html
...that tells you to do the whole setup manually, and I managed to get it working. It seems there is an issue with the software (from a recent software update, I believe) that doesn't allow the 'assist me' set up to work. I just don't get this...Apple has, on numerous occasions, released Airport updates that have broken the darn thing. Do they not test these updates beforehand? For the record, I am not the only person to have experienced this issue.
Is there a quick and easy way to notify Apple about this?

  • Reset airport express flashing orange

I've reset my airport express and reconnected it to my reciever however the orange light keeps blinking. My airport utility says it's green; however when I play via iTunes, I get an error saying the airport express is not connected to any speakers. I have it going into my CD port on my denon reciever, Please help.

I would suggest that you perform a "factory default" reset on your AirPort Express Base Station (AX), and then, use the AirPort Utility again to reconfigure it for streaming. If this still doesn't remedy the situation, please post back with some additional details about your current network configuration with the AX; also include which version of the AirPort Utility that you are using.

  • Time capsule & airport express settings! HELP!!

    Hi guys,
Would really appreciate some help. I have been running a time capsule with various devices and all has been going well. However there was an area of the house which the time capsule wifi couldnt reach so I bought an Airport Express to extend the network.
In Airport Utility, the Time Capsule has an error saying "conflicting DCHP range" and an error beside the Airport Express saying "Device not found." Ironically both devices are working (at the minute).
This is drivng me mental, if somebody could let me know what settings the two devices should be on regarding, DHCP, NAT and Bridge mode I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
