Error 1603 while updating iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2

I tried to update a new iPhone 4 (shipped with iOS 4.1) to iOS 4.2 and reveived error 1603. After that i was told by iTunes to restore the iPhone, which i did.
After the restore iTunes shows this iPhone with iOS 4.2.1 now, what confuses me a bit.
Why iOS 4.2.1? Shouldn't it show iOS 4.1 here?
Is everything fine now or did something went wrong?

A restore backs up your data, installs the latest version of iOS (currently 4.2.1) and then restores your data.
So that's why you've now got 4.2.1.
It's an unusual backup and restore method as most people tend to assume a restore will restore everything that was originally on the machine ... including the OS.

  • Error (-5000) while updating iPhone 4 to iOS 5??!

While my phone is backing up, before iTunes installs iOS 5, I get error (-5000) and it says if I continue, I will lose all the content on my phone.  HELP!!!  Thanks in advance!!!!!

Well, I truly do appreciate the answers posted on this issue... "but" for Mac users who don't use anti-virus software, this issue is still unresolved.    This is the very first time that I've experienced a software update from Apple that didn't work.  Doesn't Apple test their software before releasing it?  I mean, this can make them look pretty bad in the public's eye.  Hopefully there's a software update that will fix this soon.  I've searched online for a resolution and have discovered that there are many people who are experiencing this same problem.

you might be downloading the wrong version of iOS 7.0 or downloaded file might be corrupted , try to download again the correct and complete file and retry restoring manually ...

  • [!!!HELP!!!] Error 3014 while updating iPhone 5 or iPhone 4s or iPad 2 or iPad 4

    Hello Pals,
I am getting error 3014 when I try to update any of my iOS devices. It is consistent with all the updates ios 7.0, 7.0.3. I then ended up updating the device over air! So now I am here set for a goal to fix the iTunes to properly update my devices to 7.0.4. I have removed and did a clean install of iTunes that did not solve the problem. I then disabled all the security software including firewall, that had no effect on it. The security software that I have on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate are
    1. Microsoft Security Essentials
    2. COMODO firewall
My hosts file is clean I have no entries that would re-direct.
FYI. None of my devices were EVER jailbroken!
Appreciate some help. This is really annoying.
    Thank You,
    NB

Ok I am answering my own question!! I solved this problem by removing all old data from "%APPDATA%\Apple Computers". Meaning I renamed all the contents and started to backup (all devices) from that point on. Some old data in the backup was corrupt and causing the 3014 error.

  • Itunes give me message error 53 in update iphone 6 to ios 8.3   ????

    please help me

    Hello, stivefoin.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to update your iPhone and received an error 53.  Here are the troubleshooting steps that I would recommend going through for this error.
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer might have a hardware issue that stops the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't blocking your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Make sure that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

    Cheers,

  • Error message while updating iphone 4

After each attempt (using Itunes for Windows) to download and update the iphone4 (to 4.3.2 from 4.2.1), I continue to get the following message (after what appears to be the full 666.2 Mb download), Itunes says: "Processing File" (err = 3259).
    Then, in a seperate window:
There was a problem downloading the software for the Iphone "My Phone's Name". The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or, try again later.
Any idea why I receive the same message after more than a half dozen attempts?
    THANKS!!!

Well - I synced before - that was successful - but I am a bit scared to ignore this error and just to continue? You think I should ignore that?

  • Error 1603 while updating from iOS5.0 to iOS5.1 on iPhone4

When restarted my computer and reconnects my iPhone, it now prompts saying that iPhone in recovery mode and I must restore before it can be used with iTunes. I am very sure there's 2 backup copies in my (default designated) computer folder, with one being dated 12Mar (the day of updating). I browsed the computer folder while waiting for the downloads in iTunes.
However the backup folder is now empty!! and I can't restore to any previous backup, and my phone cannot be turn on. The iTunes restore button asked if I wanted to restore to original factory settings. How could this happen?!! My Recycle bin has this item "iPhone3,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw".
Please advise. How can I retreive my previous phone backup, or just return to iOS5.0.1 with its data prior to the 5.1?
Please help!! your kind assistance is muchly appreciated. thanks.

I have figured out. My bad. I searched at the wrong backup folder. Anyway, I just proceed with the restore and then when it completes, it will prompt to restore to previous backup. Apology for the inconvenience. Thanks all.

Thanks for your reply Michalo. I am in India and here Apple care does not work on Sundays. I have been without my phone for the entire day. Perhaps tomorrow will bring some respite. There is not solution to "error (-1)" on any forum it seems. I found one forum which suggested use of Tiny Umbrella. Any idea about that?

if your computer is not recognizing it, try using a different USB port or different usb cable. if that doesnt work you will need to uninstall and reinstall itunes.
